Sob - see where the shadow goes down under my boob - that's my normal waist line. And looking at that, even my thighs have got lardier.

Think is best to just laugh at this whole experience isn't it. I'm reading birth stories today because I'm off to meet a doula, and want to have a vague clue what I'm asking about, and the whole thing is a bit of a farce + pain as far as I can tell. Hope there's at least some laughter in it.

LondonJen · 29/05/2014 12:02

Love the bump pics! You all look fab.

I did a shop last night got new mattress for the moses basket we already have, sheets and a proper swaddle too. Between that, the sleeping bag, the blanket I bought and the giant muslin a friend gave me I am hopeful we will have covered all sleeping options for when we first bring baby home!! Then can see what it likes and what works for weight etc. That's the plan anyway!

There's only been one screen in my scans and I couldn't always see it this time because I kept coming over all queasy whilst laid on my back and having to turn onto my left side -which meant I had my back to it. Tbh though the lady was talking us through it and saying these are the kidneys and dp and I were like 'ooookay, if you say so'!! Could've been anything for all we could tell!

Good luck with the doula meeting Goats all sounds v interesting. They must be so knowledgeable. I feel like it's a whole other world this childbirth and baby thing!

puppythedog · 29/05/2014 12:21

All we'll at the scan this morning. Staying team green too :-) was a snoozy little Schrodenberg and refused to be disturbed :-)

TroubleAndFyfe · 29/05/2014 14:28

yellow DS was the fajita!

TroubleAndFyfe · 29/05/2014 14:29

Congratulations to the dogs, glad all was well!

Well, the doula thing was pretty cool. Unless boyfriend has any severe reaction to her, I'll go with it I think. Going to cost £800 mind, so will wait to call her and confirm until my next consultant appointment on Wednesday.

Does it sound mad to say that part of the reason for having one is that she will keep boyfriend calm? He's so laid back normally, but some situations seem to be randomly beyond his ability to cope - for example when we were moving house, he took himself off for a walk 'to calm down' just at the moment the removal van arrived. If he wants to do that just at the moment a baby arrives, it's less useful! So, it's someone for me to have as a consistent presence, and also someone for me to have so I don't have to worry about boyfriend! He'll be offended by that, but you know... neither of us have given birth or attended a birth before, we have no idea how we're going to cope.

Loulou888 · 29/05/2014 16:27

Ds refused any type of milk from about 2.5 years. He's only just started taking it in cereal! Sadly some kids just don't like sleep!

Fingers crossed stigz you get a good sleeper. I'm hoping too this one will take after dd

YellowWellies · 29/05/2014 18:13

Goats not a daft reason at all. I was terrified of being left on my own once in labour, to be fair though the MW made sure I wasn't when DH went to the loo etc. If he's the one likely to go AWOL I'd make him pay the £800 though! I have a pal who's a doula - sadly at the opposite end of the country - its an amazing service that really helps so many women.

ExcitedCJ · 29/05/2014 18:58

Is anyone else suffering from crazy aches & pains literally everywhere?
My undercarriage feels like its in danger of bursting apart, my rib area is so achy & I have pulls & strains all over my belly. I feel like the size of a house already & I think I look similar to full term with DC1 already!
Is it possible to burst? Prob a question I shouldn't ask after a EMCS with my DD!!! Ouch!

FlipFantasia · 29/05/2014 19:17

Goats I had a doula for dd (a vbac) and it was fab. She helped dh more than me though (though totally talked me off the ledge at what I now know was transition!). I go into the zone when labouring so the pair of them chatted, fielded the midwives' questions and basically hung out in companionable silence reading etc while I remained aware but in my hypnobirthing zone. And the doula took awesome photos! Plus it was great to have her at our flat before going into the hospital (she made dh and I rest, which really helped).

mrsb87 · 29/05/2014 19:20

cj yes something always aches. Mainly my lower back and hips, and then after being on my feet at work my feel really really ache! Luckily dh has picked up some lovely foot massage techniques!

ExcitedCJ · 29/05/2014 19:23

This is my 20/21 wk bump, it feels maahoosive!

Mrsb my feet are on fire currently! They feel like they have been fried

YellowWellies · 29/05/2014 19:29

CJ you look fab! Lovely and slim with a fab bump. You've not been eating whole tubs of daim bar ice cream have you?

I've been having a tummy ache in lower belly most days, can only assume the baby's growth is stretching everything.

Haven't really bought anything but that will change after Saturday....scan day!

YellowWellies · 29/05/2014 20:34

I've got the double buggy, the newborn insert for my ergo sling and that's it. Need to get the bassinet and cosy toes for the buggy and a new mattress for the bednest (bedside crib) and we're done. And we'll probably need to get some girls clothes if we do end up team pink though with a 2.5 year old and 1 year old girl in the family I'm sure we'll get lots of hand me downs. Much easier second time I have to say!

I'm wary about getting baby a cute going home outfit for leaving hospital. J was 3 months old before he fit his and left in whatever fitted. Perfect example of pre-birth idealism meeting post birth pragmatism!!!

Loulou888 · 29/05/2014 21:00

yellow mine both came home in a baby grow in their snowsuit thingys. Never bothered with a special outfit.

Baby feels like it's doing somersaults this evening. Got some right ache and pains. Dh said I'm like an old woman and I feel like one today!

ohthegoats · 29/05/2014 21:04

I have more aches and pains this week - up both sides, making me walk slowly, sometimes hurting when I take a deep breath. I assume it's stretching pains, even though it's not low down like they've all been before. I can't do much more digging in the garden this week.

magichandles · 29/05/2014 21:22

I've got next to nothing to get - I just need to buy some new bottles I think, and I'll probably get a couple of new clothing bits when we've found out the sex and I've had a look through what we already have.

Oh, and a new bed for DC1 - she's currently in the bed part of the cotbed we need for this one. All the stuff we really need to do is more reorganising space, I might just get bunk beds now for DC1 & 2 as they'll take up less floor space and will always come in useful even when we hopefully move to somewhere bigger.

Kirstipops · 29/05/2014 21:28

Today was the first day in aaaages that I woke up without lower back pain (which usually fades pretty fast over the course of the morning but still shit to wake up that way), I wish I knew what I'd done differently! I find by about mid to late afternoon my body is winding down and I start to feel really achey in my hips, and I dread the walk from work to my bus home! I'm going to the Lake District next weekend, hope I can hold out for a couple of nice hikes, I definitely don't think I could do a hill justice, not without holding everyone back anyway.
God I'd never even thought about a going home outfit for baby, hadn't even realised that was a "thing"!
Goats that is most definitely a good baby bump you have going on! I feel your pain about the missing waist line though! Looking good too CJ! I'll take a pic of my nearly 23 week bump maybe tonight, I seem to be all out in front, I look sorta normal sized from the front and then I turn to profile and look huge haha!! I already had a sunken 'outie' to begin with but the sunken bit is now evening out and my outie is coming out to meet the world for first time ever haha! I'd take a bare tum pic but don't want the b-button to gross you out!!

sazzlehopes · 29/05/2014 21:38

Ooh yellow thanks I've just googled the newborn insert. I really want to carry this baby as much as possible and I have an ergo but didn't use it with my first dc until he was bigger. We had a baby Bjorn carrier first but I wasn't keen on it ever. I loved the ergo...and think the insert looks great, cosy too for the winter months ahead. Where did you buy yours from and do you just have the original ergo?

Yellow do you know me?? Daim bar ice cream?

mum2kiss · 29/05/2014 22:26

We bought a little panda print baby gro from next today which I plan to put in the hospital bag for baby to hopefully wear home. Dd didn't get to wear her coming home outfit and I can't actually remember what it was!

I have to say it was annoying having to choose from a selection of just 2 unisex items!

YellowWellies · 29/05/2014 22:26

Sazzle I got it on eBay second hand for £6! Yep mines the bog standard black and beige original ergo. I love the funky patterned ones and only discovered them after we had the ergo!

Loulou yep by going home outfit I just mean particularly cute baby grow. I had a lovely yellow and white stripey gender neutral one packed in the hospital bag but it drowned him so we had to buy the only baby grow Orkney's Tesco did in tiny baby size. Ditto with the snowsuit. I don't dress mine in outfits until gone six months. I'm a slummy mummy not a yummy one I'm afraid! Blush
