Exactly the same here mum2kiss, DS would wake himself with his very strong startle reflex so we had to swaddle him for him to sleep. Once he grew out of the swaddle (starting escaping) at around 3 months he had to sleep on his tummy.

ohthegoats · 28/05/2014 21:51

Nice bump - some of you guys are so lucky with your bumps. I still look just massively fat! When I'm wearing the dresses and cardi thing, I still look like a ship in sail - with normal sized legs sticking out the bottom.

I want NO photo evidence of me being pregnant!

ohthegoats · 28/05/2014 21:54

If you swaddle, do you also put a blanket over them? Or just the swaddle? It looks LOVELY, I want to be swaddled.

ohthegoats · 28/05/2014 21:59

And, what do they wear underneath? Vest and babygro, or just vest?

YellowWellies · 28/05/2014 22:23

We swaddled J for the first 3-4 months as his morro startle reflex kept waking him up. You know when they wake up with a jump waving their arms in the air? So we swaddled him with arms and legs snug (but with an open hip position to prevent hip damage) with the Summer velcro swaddles and it was a godsend. We used to call him the burrito and pass him around like a wee rugby ball. Once he got to 4 months and he stopped waking himself up by twatting himself in the face when startled - we popped him into a sleeping bag and he's slept really well in both. To be fair he was literally too small to go into a sleeping bag at first - he was well under the minimum safe weight and would have disappeared inside the neck hole and potentially suffocated so we didn't have a lot of choice about when to put him in a bag. As it happens by the time he was big enough - he was ready. We could have moved him earlier but as he was sleeping really well (13 hours a night) you don't want to change it in case you jinx the sleep fairies!!! My MW had the theory that prem babies who came out too soon or otherwise small babies who never got sick of being cramped in the womb, love being swaddled, whilst massive ginormo-babies who were squished for the last month in utero - hate being swaddled. I will be trying swaddling with this little one and seeing how we go.

YellowWellies · 28/05/2014 22:26

Goats swaddles and sleeping bags from reputable manufacturers will both come with temperature guides saying what baby should wear in them at different room temperatures to minimise the SIDS risk. Add a good room thermometer to your shopping list if your house has a wide swing in temperatures. We have a wee gro-egg one as it's easy to see from across a dimly lit nursery if the room is dangerously hot or cold. Also some babies are hot and others cold, as J was so little we had to put an extra layer on him than recommended on particularly cold nights or else he'd wake up chilly. He'd often have a blanket over his swaddle.

fedupofrainydays · 28/05/2014 22:30

They do look super cute when swaddled but yes, my ds hated it! Moved him to sleeping bags as soon as I thought he was big enough and was way over the weight minimum and they worked really well for him.

Bump feels really tonight and quite frankly huge. Would take a photo to show how huge but I've just slathered on the bio oil!! I think I've gain a stretch mark on each boob. Bit disappointed as got none last time but hey, all in a good cause!

Kirstipops · 28/05/2014 22:36

I didn't know definite movement until after my 20 week scan (as someone else said, I was more aware of what the little niggles were after that), but in the last week it's been quite nuts (now I'm 22+4) being able to feel movement with my hand on my stomach and seeing my tum and rise and fall with little probes on Sunday was a highlight! My mum and dad were over tonight for a visit and my mum felt one of the kicks, I was so pleased!
Nice bump taking!

Grannyapple · 28/05/2014 22:51

Hello ladies! Not much to post but have scan on Friday afternoon & I think feeling more movement now, tho I'm convinced I gave an anterior placenta...will find out soon enough I guess.

Here's a bump pic...taken yesterday 19 + 5

Your bumps look great, I love seeing them as it makes me feel normal & like I have company.
I swaddled my LO from approx 2 wks - 4 months. She had silent reflux & for some reason the swaddling helped. Like Yellow I used a Velcro or zip version, couldn't be doing with all the fabric wrapping & just dressed in vest & babygrow beneath as they are very light. I used this www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/love-to-dream-swaddle-up-grey.html & also a Woombie Swaddle m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/woombie-swaddle-blanket-cream/p459878#page_loaded which I loved. I have bought them as baby gifts for 3 friends & they all swear by them. Lots of room for hips to move & arms can also move but no wollops in the face for your LO, so much more sleep.

ldt87 · 28/05/2014 23:53

Ah you have proper bumps! I still can't decide if mine looks like a bump or flab lol. Will post a pic tomorrow at 21 weeks xx

Loulou888 · 29/05/2014 06:58

ThAts true yellow my dd was a hot little thing and hated being swaddled but ds loved it.

I'm huge and won't be posting any pictures. I look like I did at full term with dd! Dh has had to start helping me get up from the settee lol.

Kirstipops · 29/05/2014 07:28

Happy scanning to all of today's scanners :)

STIGZ · 29/05/2014 08:35

Think im going to give swaddling a try this time! Will try anything as dd never could sleep more than 3 hours at a time right up until she was 3 ! So maybe she needed swaddled? .,, willling to try anything as we where so exhausted with her sleep pattern!

Just also wondering about which formula to use? I used sma last time but she had silent reflux also,so might use something diffrent this time? Dont know how much colic/reflux has to do with type of formula ? Maybe nothing?

Deffo not bf this time as it just wasnt for me unfortunatly

Loulou888 · 29/05/2014 09:17

It's hard work stigz ds has always been a nightmare at sleeping. He is now 5 and only just sleeping through. He goes to bed late too. For some reason he just doesn't need sleep. Whereas dd still has 12 hours a night.

I don't think formula makes a difference. Is it SMA they give you in hospital? You could try Aptimil but don't like the extra price tag on it. When I stopped BF I used SMA. I even tried to give ds hungrier babies milk but that just made the poor little man constipated.

bumpbangbump · 29/05/2014 10:06

Hipp panic was good for my little man when we stopped bf...

Good luck scanners, enjoy seeing the bean babies!

bumpbangbump · 29/05/2014 10:09

Hipp organic...

STIGZ · 29/05/2014 10:11

Yeah loulou your ds sounds very similar to my dd ., hungary baby milk didnt agree with her either! I think i remember they had a choice in hospital but i just went for sma as i remember my mum using that! ., i hope this little one needs 12 hours a night like your dd!! .. I love being a mum but dd just couldnt sleep through for so long it put me off having another until now (",) ,. Im so nervous this one will be the same...as i still havnt caught up on all the sleepness nights from her!! Exhausted isnt even a strong enough word.. More like labour for 3 years without the physical pain!!

My mum says you never get 2 the same? .,, so we shall see !! ... Arrrghaaaaa im soooo nervous

magichandles · 29/05/2014 10:13

I swaddled both of mine til about 3 months - I just had a couple of the Velcro type swaddles. I just treated the swaddle as it was thin cotton as a sheet layer - so DD who was a winter baby had vest, l/s babygro then swaddle then blanket and DS who was end of summer had less - can't remember exactly what but it comes quite quickly. DD just went into sheets and blankets after that, but I borrowed a couple of the 0-6 month sleeping bags for DS and he liked those.

I used Cow & Gate for both mine as DD was prescribed the Cow & Gate Prem baby formula and we just continued with the same brand. Will probably use the same this time, but I am slightly seduced by the Aptimil branding.

YellowWellies · 29/05/2014 10:29

Stigz if the reflux / colic was caused by a cows milk intolerance as it is in 40% of babies - then you'd be better on a hydrolysed or even dairy free formula like pepti junior, neocate and nutramigen - which you have to get from the docs.

YellowWellies · 29/05/2014 10:34

Stigz the fact your DD didn't sleep until three has me convinced she was reacting to cow's milk. J sleeps through unless some kind soul gives him dairy then he's up 3-4 times a night. It runs in families so if this wee one starts down the same route get to the docs and push for special formula.

Thanks for the swaddle tips - my ds seemed to like it too but i wasn't great/confident at doing it with just the blankets. I like the Woombie zip style and might invest in one for this babe!

I have bought nothing at all.

I've just taken a photo wearing my gym kit - holy crap! I look massive.. will post in a second. The only good thing going for my 'big tits big bum' body shape is a waist, and there really isn't ANY of that left. Just as well this mirror is downstairs and not very practical for using as an outfit faffing/crying excuse in the mornings.
