I'm 22 weeks and reckon I've been feeling things for 3 - 4 weeks. First two weeks it was literally one flutter on a Monday, then nothing until a light poke feeling the following Monday. Last two weeks it's been pretty regular - I'd almost say there is a pattern. First thing in the morning when I'm lying on my back in bed, then for about 5 minutes after I've eaten lunch, then around now (half three-ish - when I've got an empty classroom), and then not much again til bedtime. It's going nuts right now in fact... I can feel it from the inside (obviously), and they are currently pushing my laptop a little bit cos it's resting against the bump. Still the boyfriend claims he only 'thinks' he can feel it. Apparently this is due to my 'pork on top of the bump'. RUDE!

ohthegoats · 28/05/2014 15:55

Oh and also, until it kicked me during the 20 week (21+5) scan, I realised that I wasn't recognising some feelings as actual kicks. I thought it was digestion or something.

magichandles · 28/05/2014 16:03

Welcome Buggerlugs!

I've been feeling proper (tiny) kicks for a few days now (I'm nearly 19 weeks), usually when I sit on the sofa after dinner and when I get into bed at night and sometimes after a drink - I can feel him/her kicking against the band of my jeans sometimes. I've had the fluttering sensation since about 13 weeks though, (although no 3 so to be expected) - I didn't feel anything that I recognised as movement until about 22 weeks with DC1!

I quite want to get on with my scan now! Not until 11th June though.

FlipFantasia · 28/05/2014 16:31

Welcome buggerlugs! I also had IVF for my first (had him at age 32, treatment at 31) but sounds like you've had a rollercoaster. I know it's early days but don't feel you have to be induced on your due date. I went to 42 weeks with DS (per WHO guidance about full term being 37-40 weeks) before being induced. Most first timers don't have their babies by their due date and IVF doesn't mean you have to have a 'shorter' window in which to go into labour on your own. Anyway, here's to a nice uneventful time for the rest of your pregnancy!

LondonJen · 28/05/2014 16:31

Hia Hopeful Working from home has been great the last few weeks because I wake up feeling fine but get tired by 3-4pm. So instead of showering in the morning I just face wash, get on with the days jobs and wait till the late afternoon to have a bath whilst I am feeling snoozly (and usually have some form of undercarriage ache that the water eases. Today's is left side only. What's that about?!)

What a journey Buggerlugs. I hope you can enjoy it soon because it's wonderful that you are now experiencing this (though I had prev mc myself so I know it can be hard to relax about things.)

Sparkle I felt things quite early but it was very subtle at first and then nothing for days. Obviously I am biased but I love knowing the sex!

sazzlehopes · 28/05/2014 16:38

Sparkle I'm 22 weeks with my second and only just felt things in the last week...even though I should know what I'm looking for!
And I didn't find out the sex with the first and that was great, this time I did and that is also great so whatever you opt for you won't regret I'm sure!

Hi Buggerlugs, I sent you a PM about the FB group :) Hopefully the chat on here will help you start to enjoy it more too :) Tho so far my purse has paid the price, Natal Hypnotherapy book + CD + Star baby wrap purchased so far and eyeing reusable nappies - anything else you ladies can recommend just now for me to buy? :P

Kirstipops · 28/05/2014 17:31

And oh God yes Hopeful I've had some days where I've felt shattered and as Goats said, like I've been hit by a bus. Nearly went home sick from work yesterday cos I was struggling to keep my eyes ope , next time I feel that way I think I will just head home though. I'm hitting the 3-4pm slump quite regularly, and finding the measly half mile walk to the bus station blighted by tired achiness. Ahhh Bisto, I do enjoy a nice moan....

puppythedog · 28/05/2014 18:17

Welcome Buggerlugs from myself and mrsthedog; quite some journey you have been on to get here, congratulations.
We've our scan tomorrow 20 weeks on the nose. Who's there an what is it like? Is it much different to the 12 week scan?

Kirstipops · 28/05/2014 18:35

It's longer Puppy, so therefore better ;) I got about 40-45 mins peek at mine, different measurements to be taken and checking out organs and things so more thorough than the 12 week. I had a student doc sit in on mine which maybe made it a bit longer for me too as the sonographer was explaining stuff to her as well as in layman's terms to me.

STIGZ · 28/05/2014 19:01

Just wondering wondering if anybody swaddled their babies?

I never last time but my friend swears by it but have read as per usual diffrent points of view on safety etc

Oklahoma · 28/05/2014 19:07

How does the Facebook group work?

I started feeling movement at 17 weeks but I am pretty small and have lost weight cause of sickness so midwife said that was normal.

fedupofrainydays · 28/05/2014 19:13

sparkle I have an anterior placenta (found out at 18 weeks) so I've got some but limited movement. Pretty sure this time with my ds I felt much more by this point(now 20 w 5 days)
Wish I had a posterior placenta as feeling movement helps me worry less!

fedupofrainydays · 28/05/2014 19:14

I swaddled ds for a bit but he wanted to wave his arms around so we stopped!

pusscous · 28/05/2014 19:20

Welcome Buggerlugs and congratulations. we are due date buddies. We were ttc since Sept 2011- not quite as long as you but as this was the only pregnancy in this time, I can appreciate the difficulties in getting to this point.

LondonJen glad I'm not the only one who gets on with tasks whilst energy remains. I was getting ready as usual and feeling so tired that I believed I must be ill, as its not normal to feel so tired so quickly! People keep telling me "oh. second trimester loads of energy" and I'm like Really??

Does anyone have suggestions of books to read on pregnancy, birth and after? I have a book, but did have a list, and a thread on here, both of which I have lost. I know books are a bit subjective tho.

fatpony · 28/05/2014 19:22

Those of you who had NHS scans did you see the screen at all times? At my 12 week I couldn't see a thing because the screen was behind my shoulder and she didn't want me to move. Literally got a minute at the end! Hope the 20 week on Sat is a different layout!

mum2kiss · 28/05/2014 19:36

fatpony there were 2 screens at my scan. One for then sonographer and one for me so we saw what she saw throughout.

I swaddled Dd until she grew out of it...was great for us as she kept waking herself up every time she moved her arms! I plan to swaddle this baby too...

Loulou888 · 28/05/2014 19:46

Pusscous the pregnancy bible is a must. It gave me far more info than anyone and steers clear of course of the negative stories by not being on the internet.

ohthegoats · 28/05/2014 19:46

Two screens for me too, I think we were in there for about 45 minutes. He said not to worry if he didn't speak for the first 10 minutes or so, he was just concentrating, then he'd explain. He did keep saying 'normal' under his breath though for those 10 minutes, so I didn't panic. I never know what's going on in boyfriend's head as he barely speaks in these things.

I have finally today got 3 doulas to respond that they have availability around my due date. Massive relief - all were coming back with 'sorry, already booked for then'. They have this huge range around your due date where they won't book anyone else - no idea how they make money out of doing the job.

STIGZ · 28/05/2014 20:52

Thats where im confused about swaddling ... Do you stop if they want to wave their arms about ? Or is the point to keep them swaddled to prevent this? .,. My dd was such a restless sleeper more legs waving about than arms!!

fedupofrainydays · 28/05/2014 20:54

Maybe but it caused him distress and crying so I thought best to stop as he cried enough otherwise!!!

In our case Dd was very active but slept very peacefully when swaddled. If she wasn't swaddled she would wake up every few minutes when her arms would flail and wake her. Once she grew out of the swaddler (around 5 months) we had to start tummy sleeping because she literally couldn't sleep without waking herself up when she was on her back. For swaddling we used the miracle blanket. There are loads on the market but I knew that one came recommended. We tried to switch to sleeping bags when we stopped swaddling but for some reason she hated them!

tak1ngchances · 28/05/2014 21:46

I have had kicks since about 19+5 and now sometimes I can see movement from the outside! Some days she is quieter though. It seems go be completely random.
21 weeks tomorrow, can't believe it really...
