While I'm on the sling subject what else do people recommend for newborns. I'd really like a wrap that is easy and light. With a toddler already I'd like to be able to strap on baby and go! Plus it's cheaper than a double buggy! trouble did you suggest some before? I tried to scroll back but it was just too many posts!

I'm more worried about my own going home outfit. Trying to avoid bleeding anywhere for a start. Black harem pants I reckon.

sazzlehopes · 29/05/2014 22:34

Ooh yellow good work on the bargain well done! We have the plain black one too, at least it goes with everything and all of baby's clothes!

They're around £25 on ebay up to £80 ish.

YellowWellies · 29/05/2014 22:41

Goats I got a dark dressing gown for hospital for that very reason! I found maternity joggers or harem pants perfect for going home in. Also for lounging round the house in when you get the torrent of visitors. There is an awesome brand of maternity pads which will hide your blushes too from the worst of the lochea. I can't remember the name though... Next time I'm in Boots I'll remember.

YellowWellies · 29/05/2014 22:43

I got the insert for £6! Not the ergo. Don't go for a cheap ergo as there are a lot of fakes and there have been cases where poor quality stitching has failed and baby has fallen out. Anything under £70 for a new ergo is dodgy.

sazzlehopes · 29/05/2014 22:48

It's ok I have the ergo, just want the insert.....and yes I'd heard about fakes before we'd bought ours. Defo worth knowing that some things are cheap for a reason! A lot seem to be starting price about 5-7 quid but then postage is £6 or so a new one is £19 so not a lot more with free postage from good old john Lewis. I will keep an eye though and search for a 99p bargain!

If you've got an ergo and are planning on getting the newborn insert I'd recommend a stretchy wrap as an alternative sazzle you can pick them up very cheaply - I have a Victoria SlingLady one which was £20. I was very happy with it and used it to 6 months. You can spend double that on a Moby one which would allow you to carry them until they were older than 6 months but I imagine you'd be using the Ergo by then. I'll be using a woven wrap by then and the Tula. Stretches are great for newborns as you can carry at any weight and they cuddle the baby really close to you. I used to tie it in the morning and leave it on all day, just pop the baby in and out as needed. I never had a cold meal or a cold cup of tea and was able to do things like cook a meal whilst he was happily snuggled.

ExcitedCJ · 30/05/2014 00:27

Sorry to hear of everyone else's aches too.

I second the Ergo with insert for new born, I loved mine with DD. Although I also have a moby wrap and will try and use it more at start as it does hold baby comfy & close.

Morning all! I am booking all my antenatal classes today which is v exciting. Self hypnosis starts next week!

I'm booking the NHS ones at the MLU as the nearest NCT one is over an hoyrs drive and I'm away on holiday for 2 classes.

Anyway I was quite shocked that the antenatal class is just one 5 hour session. I was excpecting several sessions. Also my choice is next Sat which is too early or September which I hope is not going to be too late if S/he makes an early apperance.

Has anyone else done NHS antenatal classes and what are their thoughts?

Bumpforme2014 · 30/05/2014 07:02

I haven't done the NHS one yet but my sister wasn't impressed with it when did went. I signed up to NCT classes but was also surprised to see they don't start until one month before I am due so I also hope baby doesn't come early, not sure if you get refund if it does either.

Bugs have you tried pillows under your bump or in between your legs? I find that helps alleviate a bit of pressure on the pelvis. I get aches and sometimes terrible stretching pains in the night if I turn. I guess the muscles are more relaxed at night and it honestly feels like I've pulled a muscle if I turn quickly.

STIGZ · 30/05/2014 07:39

I didnt do antenatal classes first time around, would have cost too much for partner to take time off work as he is self employed and didnt want to go alone!

I bought birthwise dvd which is basically a filmed antenatel class and found it really informative as did my partner ! I them resold it on ebay when i was finished.

Its on amazon for £20 ., so if u cant make classes i recommend this! I dont feel i missed out by not attending local classes

sazzlehopes · 30/05/2014 08:03

I didn't do NCT classes, I did daisy baby birth classes which I liked, cheaper and a bit more hippy in a good way! I did do the free nhs one, by myself as oh works so much he was never going to make it. It was ok, informative, but nothing that great that you couldn't learn from other woman or the internet!

Thanks so much for the wrap advice trouble and cj I think I like the idea of a material wrap one I can wear round the house doing tasks and playing with my son etc.... I will investigate the ones you've recommended. I'm happy to pay a little for it as this being our second and another boy there really is very little to buy this time!

I did NCT, more for the friends than what I would learn. We recently moved to the area so didn't know anyone local. They were a god send and still great friends now - in fact off to meet some this morning!

ohthegoats · 30/05/2014 08:43

I'm only doing NCT to meet people. Oh, and also so I can actually see that boyfriend has some knowledge of what might happen. He's so laid back about it all, I think he needs a bit of a poke.

He has just left the freezer door slightly open over night AGAIN... about the 10th time this year. Five tubs of lush icecream about to go in the bin, along with a load of meat that might have been thawed and frozen several times, I'm just not sure. He's a pain in the arse. I'm going to ban him from getting ice for whisky.

Pregnantagain7 · 30/05/2014 08:48

I did nhs classes with my first and second pregnancies (5 year gap felt like id forgotten everything!) I found them good. I think it's a bit pot luck on your area though I moved house in between and the first lot were much better than the second. I did them on my own because I thought it would help me meet other mums in the area, i didn't really click with anyone though. Found joining a play group after baby was born a better way and also did a post natal group with my second. Post natal group was good it was run by the health visitors and included an hour of paediatric first aid well worth doing and came in very useful when my first choked at 6 months, I shudder to think what would have happened if I hadn't done it.
I'm going to see if I can get on another first aid course after this one is born to refresh my memory :)

Loulou888 · 30/05/2014 09:05

Goats I had a trip to primarni I got loads and loads of big knickers! some cheap pj bottoms, shorter cotton dressing gown (it's so hot on the ward) cheap lounge wear stuff that I came home in (couldn't care less what I looked like) I just binned the pants, especially over the first week or two when it's messy. I lived in the zip up top that hid the big wobbly empty tummy which is a bit of a shock for the first few days!

YellowWellies · 30/05/2014 09:16

And get some bigger vests for when your porn star norks appear on day 3 post birth! DH was like Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock They were so big they almost offset my empty sack tum. Seriously though don't worry about your tum, especially if you BF your tummy does shrink down really quickly. Within 2-3 weeks I just looked a bit thicker around the waist - rather than 20 weeks preggers.

Loulou888 · 30/05/2014 09:20

Yes it's only the first few days with tummy! Came across a picture of myself the other day not long after having dd. shame the boobs don't stay looking like that lol think mine shrivelled up smaller when I finished BF

ohthegoats · 30/05/2014 09:22

I want to have smaller boobs in general - that would be great. A nice D cup instead of GG/H would be perfect.

Actually, my boobs haven't changed much so far, I'm still wearing the same size bras as before I was pregnant, just on the loosest catch at the back rather than the middle or tightest one.

Loulou888 · 30/05/2014 09:29

One thing I also bought was almost like a sports bra but with clips for breast feeding which didn't matter too much about cup size but still gave you support. Think they were from mothercare. I don't know how they expect you to be able to get into town and measured for new bras when you've just had a baby and the milk comes in. I probably went up 2 sizes. They were like footballs.

tak1ngchances · 30/05/2014 09:30

My pregnancy rage is in full swing. It's my auntie's 60th birthday tomorrow and she's staying at my parents'. Dad said to remember to send her card to their house and not hers.
So I remembered to buy a card (good), remembered to buy stamps (good) but posted it to her house in a fog of running around after work and before dinner brain-mush.
Dad just berated me down the phone, normally I would try and talk to him but instead I shouted "oh for fucks sake!!!" and hung up. I then stomped around the house being cross with DH and have just stubbed my toe. Serves me right. Blush
