Starting a new thread for August babies.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Monsters, you've got a tricky decision there. What does your consultant say? Mine has said a section is best, as did the midwife at the VBAC clinic. I just need it signing off / booking at my final consultant appt next month.

mssleepyhead · 04/05/2014 17:23

Was going to rent a bednest but thought we'd use it with the possible second baby so in the end just bought it... Topmammy - I upgraded the mattress. The £50 off at the moment pretty much pays for the upgrade.

ilovemonstersInc · 04/05/2014 19:22

I see the consultant next month and mw this month.
all care is under hospital so I don't have community mwto ring for aadvice.

Wwyd?
I've been getting pain top of bump and down sides like sharp pains mixed with bh. Bit of back pain too. Baby is as usual since starting injections (his movement reduced since starting but still feeling him everyday)
Dm said have bath and see how you feel? What worried me was placenta being fundal and pain is at top of bump?

weeza13 · 04/05/2014 21:24

Need some advice, the skin at the top part of my bump about the size of palm of my hand esp in the middle feels quite numb compared to skin on rest of bump which feels very tight but not numb. Is this normal? Don't want to trouble my mw over bank hols as I know she has family to spend time with if its something silly. Has anyone had or heard of this before?

topmammy · 04/05/2014 23:11

I've had stretching feelings at the top of my bump in the middle before, usually if I've also eaten too much Blush. Can't remember if it felt numb though. So it could possibly be skin/muscle stretching? If it's not causing you pain I'd personally wait to see if it settles down on its own, but of course call the MW if you're worried. You could try gently massaging the area with some moisturizer or bio oil, which might help to soothe or at least relax you :)

HungryHorace · 05/05/2014 06:52

Monsters, I'd call the midwife office at the hospital and see what they say. The number should be on your notes, otherwise reception can put you through. Get some reassurance / advice from them.

Weeza, I vaguely remember numb bump from last time but can't remember what it was in the end. It wasn't anything to be concerned about though. Again, you could call the hospital midwives today just for reassurance. They always prefer you to call than sit and worry. :-)

I'm seeing the midwife today for my belated 24 week check up. Will be nice to hear baby's heartbeat again. Though I know baby's ok as I'm getting kicked to bits most of the time! DH is amazed by it (think we'd both forgotten how hard DD could kick inside me!).

ilovemonstersInc · 05/05/2014 07:16

Ive had the numb feeling with ds2 and nobody knew what it was.
Horace I had to sleep. I slept 6 straight hours last night which ive not done for a very long time. Ive still got a bit of pain. If it gets worse or same as last night I will definitely ring them. Thank you

Loujim2 · 05/05/2014 08:27

Hello, I'm due my first in August so thought I'd check in. Only nine and a half weeks till I start maternity leave! All coming round so quickly! Smile Smile x

thatwhichwecallarose · 05/05/2014 08:32

Hi ladies!!

Haven't been on here for a while - the whole password reset thing! I've changed my username too (though there is a link).

Hope you're all doing well. Am in my 3rd trimester now so time to get sorting stuff out. So far we have no nappies, cotton wool, bottles, steriliser etc.

In more exciting news have booked at 4d scan for Friday. We're going to take dd along with us and sonographer is going to tell her the sex!

Loujim2 · 05/05/2014 08:37

Hope you don't mind me asking but how much is a 4d scan?

thatwhichwecallarose · 05/05/2014 09:31

We're paying £130 which is a lot! But we did it for dd 3 years ago and felt we should again! Plus i think dd would like to see it too!

flymo79 · 05/05/2014 10:10

Thanks for reassuring messages about redundancy, been trying not to stress this weekend about it and just had the most mega lie-in to make the most of bank hol. Not really bought a lot for baby yet... Am going down the ' somewhere to sleep, something to eat, something to wear' route and any extras will have to wait... Am a bit worried about bf-ing, hope to speak to mw about it

HungryHorace · 05/05/2014 12:03

Loujim, it depends where in the country you are. It's about half that price up here (NW) than arose is paying.

Had my midwife appt. All is good. :-) Next one in 2 weeks' time. Then 3 weeks after that it's my consultant appt where I'll get my c section date. Yay!

Loujim2 · 05/05/2014 12:34

Hungaryhorace, thank you! Not sure I would get one but just curious to how much they were. x

Loujim2 · 05/05/2014 12:36

Oh and, I'm quite new to this site, I don't get some of the abbreviations you all use! DD? DH? They're probably all really simple so I'm going to blame baby brain! Smile x

mssleepyhead · 05/05/2014 13:49

just popped into sainsburys and they have a mother and baby event on. not sure what counts as a real bargain as haven't done much of this kind of shopping yet but got a lot of nappies, some baby bath wash and some tommy tippee bottles, all on offer. wipes etc are on offer too. seems a bit early to be getting such things but i figure it's good to spread the cost and get them whilst the deals are on : ) thought i'd spread the news for anyone with a sainsburys near them.

HungryHorace · 05/05/2014 14:08

DD is dear / darling daughter.

DH is dear / darling husband.

DS is dear / darling son.

:-)

Mumsnet has a list of them somewhere on the site. I'm not sure where though :-/ #useful

I've been buying nappies from Amazon as I've got Family membership and get 20% off plus free delivery.

It's good to start buying stuff though and spread the cost.

topmammy · 05/05/2014 14:36

I keep looking at nappies but feel absolutely clueless which ones to buy so end up buying none lol. I have got good pile of Johnson's newborn baby wipes though! Bought two more packs today as they were 89p each. Also got some Cussons new mum bath soak stuff which is apparently good for any bruising/soreness after birth!

I feel like once my nursery is all finished I can buy stuff properly instead of these random little bits I'm doing at the mo.

Currently the nursery is an empty room with bare floor boards and walls that need painting, a light fitting that needs replacing and needs a blind and curtains installing. On the plus side we have successfully moved the radiator to the other side of the room :)

Still think I want the Bednest but DH thinks it's a waste of money Envy Annoying! I will probably just get it anyway, don't need his permission haha.

HungryHorace · 05/05/2014 14:38

A box of 12 packs of Johnsons Extra Sensitive wipes is £8 in Asda at the moment. We use them and really like them. :-)

You're getting there with the nursery, mammy.

And I agree...go for the bednest!!

mssleepyhead · 05/05/2014 15:46

topmammy - i was totally clueless and hope i've bought the right thing! i got pampers newborn nappies in size 2 (6 - 13lbs, i think they are...). i decided not to get the size 1s in case it's a bigger baby (since i feel the size of a house!) and will buy those if we need to later. but agree. better advice needed on the packaging for clueless newbies!!

topmammy · 05/05/2014 16:23

Sounds like a plan mssleepy I will most probably get that size nappy too then. I would like better packaging too plus a really big bright flashing arrow that says, New mum these are the right ones to buy!!

Loujim2 · 05/05/2014 16:28

Thanks hungaryhorace! Very simple but would never have guessed them! :-) x

lucyfluff · 05/05/2014 16:47

Horace Smile that sounds wierd calling you that!!! could you tell me the amazon family thingy you mentioned re nappies please?? is there an annual cost?? sounds great for when the baby events are finished.

I bought my first pack of Pampers newborn last week and they are teeeennnny Smile

Jenbee1 · 05/05/2014 17:01

I just got my free changing bag voucher from boots so need to buy pampers new born to claim it

HungryHorace · 05/05/2014 17:53

Here's the link, Lucy: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/family/signup/welcome

It's £79 per year now (was £49 when I signed up). I'm not sure if there's still the 3 month free trial or not though.

And the prices are less than the baby events for nappies. Less than £7 for a box of Pampers Newborn nappies!

We pay 11p per nappy for Pampers Active Fit for DD which is really good.

As we will have 2 in nappies for a while we will definitely save money even with the charge. You get Amazon Prime with it too.

By the way, DD was 9lbs 7oz and size 1 fitted her for a few weeks. If you go up a size too quickly you'll get poo leaking out. That is something to avoid (and happened when I went up to size 2 too early...be warned!).
