deep sympathies majormoo with the piles. there have been times when i felt like it was just one indignity too far. mercifully have had great improvement in last 3 weeks-i think entirely due to eating about 4-6 figs a day off our tree. will have to think of new alternative now that there all finished.
have to say am feeling so much better than was up to 7 months, am actually enjoying it-mostly, obviously, piles, heartburn, sleeplessness, achey ribs and a v. dodgy bladder not so good. am so glad we're all nearly there now.
haven't spoken to my friend as texted her on thursday with a relaxed message and got one back that carefully omitted any ref to pg so am holding back.
have bitten the bullet and bought a pair of trousers from blooming marvellous. just couldn't stand showing big expanse of tummy now that pg t shirts don't cover it all, sil's pg clothes don't fit and i have developed livid stretch marks that look like someone has been practicing voodoo. can't wait til they arrive and i can be comfortable.
thinking of you gingeme, you've been so brave.

NattyandThomas · 28/08/2006 22:57

hi ladies im not having a baby but just noticed alot of you are drinking the rasberry leaf tea stuff. BE CAREFUL, i drank about 10 cups a day for the last two weeks, and it lead to my uterous being "over stimulated" which meant that when i went in labour my contractions were every minute from the start! 14 hour labour followed by c-section because although contractions were close together and strong they werent LONG enough to dialate me. so be careful, midwife told me that it was most likely the tea that caused it.

good luck to you all, heres to bouncing october babies!

hana · 29/08/2006 09:13

has anyone else had placental abruption? have just spent 12 days in hospital with bleeding......baby fine but will prob deliver early ( am 34 weeks today) was quite scary at first - had steroid injections for baby's lungs and lots of blood tests and scanning and monitoring. Nervous now to be home out of hospital. Hoping to make it to 38 weeks before baby is born now. any experiences of this at all?

Swizzler · 29/08/2006 09:25

Hana: no advice to offer but thinking of you. Hope you manage to hang on for as long as possible. As you've probably seen already, though, our earliest Oct baby has already been born at 28 weeks and is fine.

Gingeme: hope you've had a great weekend. Big to you and best wishes for the new arrangements.

sallyrosie · 29/08/2006 09:26

Hana - thank goodness baby ok, at least you're at the stage in pregnancy where baby viable now. How terrifying for you, hope you're feeling better and taking it easy. Will keep my fingers crossed for you
I'm nesting today. Have cleaned out all of my cupboards over the last few weeks, just tackling the last one (understairs) now and chucking lots of stuff out, very therapeutic. Incredibly sad as it is, I like opening cupboards and seeing them neat and tidy inside. Waaaayyyy too much time on my hands. Need to wash the curtains in nursery next...
I looked up raspberry leaf tea on google. It won't bring on labour so I'm not bothering with it. My contractions were strong enough last time - don't fancy them being any stronger!
Just going to have to accept that baby will come when its ready!
Hope you're all having a good day, especially those of you still at work.

wuzzlefraggle · 29/08/2006 09:30

hana - oh my god, are you ok now?? try and think of it as they wouldnt have let you go home if they were'nt confident that you and the baby were ok and able to. when did all this happen?? did they say what causes it?

hana · 29/08/2006 10:24

thanks girls - nothing really brought it on - was buying dd1's school uniform at m&s - we were in the cafe resting after a marathon trying on session! Have googled it but sometimes that's a bit scarier - it's what Sophie (countess of Sussex) had with her little girl Lousie a few years ago. common in older mums ( but am only 36!) , mums who have had multiple pregnancies and smokers, sometimes a short umbilical cord......have to take it easy ( with 2 under 5?) and have weekly checks from now on. feel ok though - hospital isn't far away and have all friends nearby on standby to take girls! drs concerned that baby won't be growing as it should be now with a placenta that has been damaged. day by day
have read about Kat's baby girl - hope the pair of them are doing well. Was v reassured after visiting special care at my hospital.

Gingeme · 29/08/2006 10:35

Hope your ok Hana. My goodness how scary for you! Im sure your in the best hands though. Keeo us updated wont you?
Thanks swizzler. Trying to get some sort of packing organised today like their games consoles and clothes. Doesnt seem to be working though their both just sodding about on their new bunk beds. Shouldnt be on here realy but it was either this or shouting at them to get a move on so I opted for this.
Had a brill time ice skating yesterday. Even my 2 year old enjoyed it(sort of). The bigger ds's have never been before and they took to it realy well and were zooming around like pros. In fact they want to go again on Thursday.
Anyway better go and see what theyve done. Take Care all. xxxx

EmilyTurner · 29/08/2006 11:30

Sorry to hear about your probs Hana and hope you make it to 38 weeks.

I've got an update on my fainting fits. Been to docs and had an ECG. I've got a heart murmour because my heart is working so hard. When I stand up my blood pressure is falling so the heart is beating really fast and working hard, which is why I feel faint, sick, hot and see black dots. The ECG showed the heart is working to a good rhythm and the murmour is just my heart doing its job. Waiting for the blood results tomorrow but he thinks it is anaemia.

I am rather fed up if I am honest. And I was really having loads of sex too (carrying on from what you were all saying before)! It was a revelation as last pregnancy I didn't want any at all and this time I am mad for it. Or was, until the fainting fits.

I tell you, 9 weeks seems a long time to be carrying on with these stupid episodes and feeling faint everytime I stand up.

sallyrosie · 29/08/2006 12:03

Glad to hear nothing serious going on with your heart Emily, hope the blood tests are ok. Definitely need to take it easy and I guess keep on with the shredded wheat! Have you been put on iron tablets?
Take care Hana - although if you have 2 under 5's don't know how you'll manage to - anyone that can help you out at home a bit? At least they'll be keeping a really close eye on how your babe is growing.

clon · 29/08/2006 12:12

Hello all and welcome to the new people.

Hana and Emily I hope you're both taking it easy and feeling better soon. Always a worry when the body decides to do something strange. I had a bit of a racing heart this weekend but it seems to have settled down in the last 2 days so fingers crossed it was just a couple of moments.

Gingeme I hope all goes well with the big boys move, it must be a wrench for you.

Swizzler/Catgirl/Dogmum if your talking chocolate cake I'm keen to join in too!!! (if you don't mind)!

I'm very jealous of those on Mat leave, I still have 3 weeks of work left, I'm even more envious of those getting a nursery ready. In a moment of sheer stupidity we decided to move our bathroom upstairs and extend the kitchen, the bathroom is nearly complete and now on the same floor for nightly loo vists so good news there, the kitchen however is a building site after this weekend's wall demolishing by dh. We are also having trouble with getting builders to do the job so starting to stress, it shouldn't have been this hard! The new kitchen is currently stored in the nursery-to-be so can't do any prep on that front. Trying to keep calm about it but proving difficult!

Swizzler · 29/08/2006 12:42

Clon: will the baby be in with you at first anyway? Try not to stress too much about the house: even if it's not all done by the time the baby arrives it probably won't seem that important!

Emily: glad you've got some answers. Hope your iron levels get back up soon.

Hana: I'd second the getting as much help as possible - could someone take the kids off your hands for an afternoon so you can rest?

Envious at those actually having sex - my DH seems to be having this 'precious mother of child and therefore off limits' thing as well (grr). Hopefully things will readjust themselves (or I'll be too tired to care )

Swizzler · 29/08/2006 12:43

Oh, re meeting up for cake (and coffee if you insist) Oct 3rd was being bandied round as a date. I'll be on maternity leave (hooray!) so perhaps late morning / afternoon?

clon · 29/08/2006 13:42

Swizzler that's definitely an offer I can't refuse I shall be on mat leave too then. YAY!

I know the kitchen will pale into insignificance once baby is here but it would just be nice for everything to be sorted. I'm breathing in through the mouth and out through the belly button chanting who needs a dishwasher anyway, it seems to help

I'm glad to report thoughts of mucus plug seem to have faded this weekend for dh so it wasn't all DIY and no fun at home!

catgirl · 29/08/2006 14:10

just taken ages to read through the weekend postings!

Gingeme: hope the move goes as well as it can for you and your boys. Thinking of you.

Hana: hope all goes well with the rest of your pg.

Emily: good luck with the bloods, anemia easily treatable I think?

Anyone new: welcome!

Whiffy: hope your birthday was fun and you got spoiled rotten. When if your baby due now? Have lost track.

Swizzler/DogMum/clon/anyone else in London - 3rd Oct is already in my diary for cake/food of any description really. My second day of mat leave.

re sex, dh has never had it so good! !

I had acupuncture last time to induce labour, from memory you can't have any before 40 weeks anyway, a course of 3 session, I had two (and a sweep at the hospital) and delivered the next day - so plan on having more this time! If nothing else you will get a lovely nights sleep after it - I certainly did and that alone was worth the money. I found raspberry leaf tea horrible last time, so won't be doing that again - don't think I drank much at all, so can't have made any difference.

Starting to 'nest' I think, we pottered around on Sunday, just sorting bits and bobs out and the baby's room now looks less like a tip than it did. Just as well as we bought a chest of drawers at the weekend, that will be delivered by next weekend, so we had to make space somehow!

Well, I have 5 weeks left in work, and for parts of the middle section have been well and truely dumped on to fill in for someone (despite objections) - never mind, my cover starts 14 Sept, so a nice long handover. AND I have up to 12 weeks to go (to due date + 2 weeks), but apart from night time visits to the loo, and having no breath walking up the stairs, and an aching back if I sit too long, I feel fine! I love sitting on my sofa, rubbing the bump and feeling he/she move. Oh, and I do keeping hitting my ds on the head with the bump!

gosh, that's long - sorry about that!

EmilyTurner · 29/08/2006 14:30

Thanks for the nice welcome and words of support everyone. It helped just to talk to other people who had gone through the same thing/offered advice.

I will know tomorrow if it is iron tablets/blood transfusion or if it is hypertension. If the latter then it is sexy support stockings. Yay me!

majormoo · 29/08/2006 15:08

Hana must have been scary but a relief the baby is Ok. Have you tried searching on mumsnet for other threads or starting your own, as someone is bound to have experience of this and advice to give. Take it easy.

Emily-hope blood tests come back OK. Take it easy too.

Gingeme-hope it goes OK with the boys moving.

I have had a sick day today as just could not face the office with these dreadful piles. Saw midwife but she said there is nothing they can do really, so I just have to put up with the pain until after childbirth ouch! Still good news is the baby is head down now. It was the GP who told me baby was transverse, and I think the midwife thinks he got it wrong now. Still with my new piles problem, the thought of pushing is not appealing!

DogMum · 29/08/2006 15:11

Hope it goes well tomorrow, Emily. Glad there isn't anything really unpleasant on the list of possibilities. And Hana, I hope you're feeling more confident about being at home now. How you're supposed to take it easy with two small children, I don't know. A friend spent about a week in hospital with her third pregnancy because she was dashing about so much after the other kids. However did our grandmothers manage?

And clon, you know why! But don't worry about the kitchen. The midwives will let you take the baby home even if the kitchen's not finished. It is frustrating though. Especially with the nesting instinct kicking in. We've got DPs 40th birthday in a couple of weeks so we have a deadline to get the house back to normal. I'm really pleased, otherwise it would be Christmas after next and still not done.

EmilyTurner · 29/08/2006 16:03

Majormoo

I take it you've done ice cubes? Intensely painful but they help shrink them back. I pushed for two hours with my first baby and got huge piles. When I did my first post-labour major toilet (sorry for the too much info) I had to breathe my way through it as I did with contractions. I was so scared becuase the piles hurt so much.

Would sitting on a valley cushion help relieve pressure on your sore bits?

girlygale1 · 29/08/2006 16:25

Hi,

Hana - am thinking of you and will be praying the rest of your pregnancy goes well for you.

Gingeme - I don't know the full story, but am sorry to hear that you will be parting from your sons soon, am thinking of you and hope that it isn't too traumatic for you xx

I have just been to midwife - she said that she wouldn't advise anyone to drink Rasp leaf tea before 37 weeks - I am having strong braxton hicks and am 32 weeks so am not allowed them yet. Don't know if that helps you all much?

Better go and rescue dh from dd - he is busy painting doors etc and she has already trodden in a dollup of paint and spread it everywhere!!!!!

Why do we decide to do these things so close to birth? I moved when dd was just 2 months old!!! Must be bonkers - are thinking of moving again - probably just as this one is born!!!!!

Take care everyone xx

EmilyTurner · 29/08/2006 16:53

This baby is due on the same due date as my daughter, with a three year gap. We moved house on August 9 when I was pregnant last time. A nightmare as we had to gut the house completely. It had to be replastered, new kitchen, painted and everything. We lived at night at my mums for dinner (as we had no running water) and just slept in the one room that was livable in the entire house. The day before I went into labour, the carpets came and stuff came out of storage. It was that close. I vowed never to do it again!

girlygale1 · 29/08/2006 19:39

Wow Emily - that must have been really stressful!!! I thought packing with a newborn and trying to paint the new house was bad enough!!!

Don't blame you for not doing it again!

Gingeme · 29/08/2006 20:22

Thankyou for your best wishes ladies. Got everything packed and sprted in the end. Just left bits out that they will need when they stay for weekends etc. They went out to play when we had finnished and I sat and had a good cry. Think now Ive got it out of my system I should be ok.
Do you know thats the one thing I havnt had this pregnancy is piles! Maybe I am actualy eating more fibre and fruit this time. Mind you I had a real thing for apples the other day must have eaten 4 through the day!
Glad your ok hana and I dont see how anyone can take things easy when you have other kids especialy little ones.
Speaking of which my 2 yesr old did so well today. We went into town to the library today and had a coffee in Morrisons out about 2 hours in all and he had his pants on and didnt have an accident. Then as soon as he got in he plonked himself down on his potty and did a wee.Trust me those of you who are first timers this will all make sence in a couple of years....

nicand2 · 29/08/2006 21:15

Hello all,

Just been reading about all of you who are moving/decorating. We put our house on the market a week ago and have just shown the first viewers round. I'm really worried that we will be moving with a really young baby (6 weeks til due date) I just can't face the thought of packing/cleaning and then doing all the unpacking the other end. From what I remember about the first few weeks with ds, I'll be lucky to get out of my nightie let alone move house! Feeling really down about it all.

I'm sure I will get lots of help and it probably won't be as bad as it seems right now.

I have my 34 week check tomorrow and I think the baby is really starting to move down now as sometimes I find it really hard to walk so will be interested to see what MW says.

Tigerlion · 29/08/2006 21:15

Thinking of you lots Gingeme and hope that all goes well.

Went for 34 week midwife check up today and due to high blood pressure and small size of baby she is sending me to hospital to be monitored tomorrow. Baby was growing just fine (one centimetre per week) but is now 30cdm at 34 weeks so mw concerned that the placenta may no longer be functioning properly. If this is the case, they will need to deliver the baby which is a terrifying thought. has anyone else got small measurements?

I would prefer to avoid staying in a hospital for a few weeksas I really want to be at home with DS. He had his MMR today and I just want to be near him to give him lots of cuddles! But I suppose it would be best being in hospital where they now what they are doing than posing a risk to the baby.

Is raspberry leaf tea meant to help with the tear? I thought it was just meant to bring on labour. Again, I had no tear with a large DS and I am sure that this is down to the fact that I had a perineal massage from around 36 weeks. Not the most sexy of things for DH but certainly seemed to work!
