I'm chomping my way through a large raisin brioche from the bakery (mmm) so think chocolate is highly justified. The cherry one is good, but I really like the almond and ginger flavours. And the choc ginger G&B ice cream is gorgeous.

Another antenatal class last night - so knackered when I got back that I refused ice cream so I have half a tub of Ben & Jerrys waiting for me at home

September: could make the evening of the 13th, but not the 7th as we're touring the hospital. Catgirl: are you still on for coffee beg Oct once you're on leave?

Work is getting to be a bit of a trial, but my boss has been really nice about flexible working. I may try working from home a day a week to cut down on the travelling. How is everyone else doing?

Gingeme · 25/08/2006 10:19

Good morning ladies. Yes thankyou Dogmum Im ok this morning though my knee is still a little sore. Felt more silly than anything else though. Im so fed up of choc at the moment what with the 2 boxes we got for our anni plus the various chocolate things that were going around on ds birthday
I had salad for my dinner last night and thoroughly enjoyed it! The fact that dh prepared it with a yummy bacon and tomatoe pasta helped too.
Bump is realy on the move this morning. As Im typing this Im pretty sure hes got hic cups as theres a gentle rythmic bumping goign on somewhere in there. Anyway Im off to watch dh put my ds's bunk beds together now. With the help of ds3 this should be fun..... Hope you all have a nice day. xxxx

catgirl · 25/08/2006 10:46

... step away from the choc eggs, move away now.... I felt really sick as I ate far too many! so far this morning I have had 2 apples and a banana - plan on crisps with lunch though!

Swizzler - yes love to meet for coffee in October - how about Tuesday 3 Oct, my second day of mat leave? Is Liverpool St good for you? Or would you rather somewhere more local? I don't mind either way.

Gingeme - hope you are over the shock of your fall - I fell over on three consecutive days last time, at around the 36 week mark: first time tripped up a pavement, landed on the side of my bump = one bruised knee; next day, tripped up the marble stairs in a cafe in Putney (not sure why Putney is necessary there!) = other knee bruised; next day, tripped up stairs in a shop and landed on both knees - I was in agony! And threw the shoes I was wearing on all three occasions away!

My next hosp appt is 21 Sept, so plan on asking if I can have a look at the ward that day, rather than attending the ante-natal evening - babysitters a problem this time round, hopefully they won't be busy and it will be OK. Apparently the Homerton has a lovely new pool, but if you want to use it make sure to mention when you ring up as it takes about 25 mins to fill!

My boss is away this week, and I thought I had done really well on the work he had left, only to just find another huge pile, hidden away in plain view - sob. Was going to head over to Waitrose to buy some curtains, that will have to be my 'treat' later. Working in E14 doesn't half take it out of your wallet!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

clon · 25/08/2006 10:54

Hello all,

Swizzler you're making me hungry, that sounds so much nicer than the boring toast I had!
I'm finding work a trial too now. I haven't slept so well this week so I feel shattered today, can't wait for a long lie in this weekend. Only 3 weeks left at work, really can't wait for it to be finished now.

Gingeme thanks goodness you're ok, take care of yourself. You've inspired me to go swimming this weekend, it been ages since I went to the gym or pool!

On the travel system side I was thinking of going for an M&P stroller with a cot click on in order to get the best of both worlds, I really want to avoid having to buy something else 3/4 months down the line. Has anyone else tried those? Thanks for all the advice it is very helpful to a newbie like me!

I think I'm free on the 7th or 13th so would love to meet up again.

catgirl · 25/08/2006 10:57

PS - can't do either 7th or 13th Sept - sorry.

marthahm · 25/08/2006 11:24

has anyone heard from whiffy? hope she's ok. hope kat is recovering well too.
i'm really relieved i'm not the only one eating for britain. i went out for lunch with my boss yesterday and his eyes nearly fell out when i consumed twice as much as him. i was starving, and that was after 3 pieces of toast, half a shepherds pie and a large cappucino for breakfasts. i ate a whole bar of the cherry g+b chocolate in under 30 minutes near the beginning of the pg and i think that might have finished that craving off. i have to think hard today about what i'm going to eat this weekend as i'll get stuck at home with the notting hill carnival. i know i'll end up on monday afternoon desperate for a cheddar sandwhich or something.
i've only got 2 weeks left at work which is such a relief. took dh's head off last night when came back because was so tired.
i hope your back is ok after the fall gingeme, i keep imagining i'm going to do that or fall off the pavement now that i have no sense of balance left.
i'm waiting anxiously at the mo to hear if my friend is ok. she had a triple test at 18 weeks that came back as 1 in 180 last week and the midwife turned up on her door. then she had a scan that showed soft markers for 'bright gut'-apparently something to do with cystic fibrosis possibly and then she had to have an amnio last thursday am. they said they'd get the results to her in 3 days and i haven't heard anything now and its been 8 days. she doesn't want any of her other friends or colleagues knowing about the pg etc because she thinks they'll all think she's awful if she has to have a termination. i kept telling her no one would think like that but didn't believe it.

catgirl · 25/08/2006 11:38

marthahm - hope your friend is ok.

Swizzler · 25/08/2006 12:05

Mathahm: hope your friend gets the results soon. The waiting around must be awful - can she hassle her consultant for details?

Gingeme: take it easy on the DIY, especially after your fall. I've had a few near misses and that made me feel shaky enough! Still teetering up and down the stairs on the bus, though may have to give that up soon.

Catgirl: coffee at LS sounds good, nice and easy to get to on the train. I think the 3rd is OK, so shall we confirm nearer the date? Thanks for the tip about the pool - the mw last night said to ask for the pool room after you'd been assessed, but I hadn't thought about the need to fill it up. She was also extolling the benefits of a water birth - I wanted to shut her up in case everyone else decided to go for one and booked up the room!

marthahm · 25/08/2006 12:23

my worry swizzler is that she's already got the results and that's why i haven't heard from her

Swizzler · 25/08/2006 13:33

Sounds tricky. Could you drop her a card or something to say you're thinking of her?

Seona1973 · 25/08/2006 13:43

Havent posted in a wee while so thought I'd better let you know I've found the new thread . Welcome to all the newbies and congrats to Kat and the first of the littlies to be born.

I think I've overexerted myself the last couple of days - decided to cut and strim the front grass yesterday and dead-head the roses. Was knackered after it. DD played outside with her little bike and my birthing ball (dh keeps his football in the car so had no other ball to give her)

Today I've been to Asda and bought quite a bit of shopping - that trolley was heavy and carting the stuff into the house was even worse. I think my pelvis is going to suffer for it - better do nothing else the rest of the day

Will be going swimming tomorrow as usual - me, dh and dd all go and he takes her into the kiddy pool while I go for my swim and then I go back and join them when I feel I've done enough.

I have ordered the Mamas and Papas Pliko P3 Quattro which comes with a car seat and carry cot and is lightweight with an umbrella fold. I got a heavy graco travel system the last time and decided to be more sensible this time.

I have been looking at changing bags now and cant decide what to go for. It will need to be big enough for baby as well as toddler stuff as I carry spare pants/trousers, etc in case of accidents plus the usual snacks, drinks, etc. I will look like a pack horse!!

p.s. I still have an innie belly button and it barely came to the surface the last time either!!

lenni · 25/08/2006 13:54

hI- I'm new to this, and new to Brighton, and noticed talk of some kind of meet up in Brighton?
If I can 'gatecrash', let me know. It would be good to meeet some women in area with young children, if only to keep me sane! I've been having a pretty mad summer with my 3 year old daughter, and my manic 19 month son- he is just so exhausting!!!!!!!!!!

whiffy · 25/08/2006 14:21

Hi I'm here and fine. sorry for not logging on and rabbiting on (as is my wont), but have spent most of week in bed. Nothing serious, though when I went to see my lurverly reflex/cold stone/reiki therapist she tested my back against a plumb line and the bottom of my spine had gone out by over an inch and a half from where it should be, mostly because the baby is lying quite far over to one side and seems to have grown quite large in last couple of weeks. So everything was pulling to one side and causing the pain (I know Marthahm will be nodding sagely at all of this!).

so anyway, had some kind of voodoo treatment called spinal relief (aparantly acupuncture without the pins) which has really really helped but more or less put me to sleep for three days. Am feeling miles better which is a relief as I'd been getting a bit worried about not having the osteo centre close by to keep straightening me out (now I've finally stopped working I don't think I'll be heading back to London any time soon...). Have booked a weekly session with voodoo practitioner to do a combination of spinal relied, reflex & hot stones for two hours every week form now on. Bliss.

Horrible times for your friend, Marthahm, will keep fingers crossed for her.

Good to know everyone is OK, though I feel desperately happy and sad at same time for Kat: must have been very scary to go through all of that and then to get grief from other people on top of everything. Pleased that her baby is a good weight though I guess it will be a while before she can bring her home and fully take over the mum side of things. Hope the baby blues aren't too cruel to her and she sails through next few weeks. Makes it all seem so real now that one of us has done the dead (and so early!!).

Mind you, given Kat's news I am now contemplating in a rather worreid fashion the piles of pink things I have already bought in expectaton of a girl....hope Kat's surprise is a rarity as otherwise I've an awful lot of returns to make....

On the travel system side I also went for one of those ones where the cot bit slots straight into a base in the car - very handy. However I agree with everyone else that you should go for the lightest version you can find otherwise you'll end up dumping everythign in favour of a lightweight mcClaren buggy before you know it...

all that talk of chocolate on the thread, by the way, had bad repurcussions in this household. I'd bought myself some bitter chocolate/ameretto cherry things form M&S as special post-natel treat... had to go swipe them out of my maternity bag and scoff the lot

am in for interesting weekend.... tis my big 4-oh birthday tomorrow and I found out this morning that DH has organised a surprise party for me (well, not much of a surprise any more)...whilst am very touched at thought, he has forgotten to invite some of my very good friends (so will have to be very surreptitious and ensure they dont subsequently find out about it) and he also he hadn't thought about catering much beyond buying a few steaks for the barbie. I now face the prospect of 2 dozen mates coming round when I was really rather anticipating a quiet day with maybe a pizza express raid in the evening. Still, the good news for the guests is that have spent best part of two hours going through recipe books, and will be spending the evening barking out recipe instructions to DH from comfort of living room whilst sipping from a chilled bottle of gasviscon - will be the most effortless party I ever hold, though guess DH will think again before repeating this, once I've finished with him in the kitchen

catgirl · 25/08/2006 14:40

whiffy - glad to hear you are OK - the voodoo sounds great, think I will plan some acupunture when I start my mat leave (had some last time and it was great). Also might plan on some choc in hospital bag - clever idea - but I have very little will power! What is your due date now then? Have a fun birthday tomorrow!

Swizzler - let's keep in touch re 3rd - if anyone else in London wants to join us at Liverpool St for coffee/cake then do.

Marthahm - would you not call your friend to find out how she is?

everyone else: welcome/welcome back! Take it easy over the bank holiday.

Anyone else getting over-hot? Most afternoons this week I have felt hot/flushed (and I am in an air con office) - maybe I am tired?? Ante-natal yoga tonight, so that should wake me up!

clon · 25/08/2006 15:06

Whiffy have a fantastic birthday tomorrow.

catgirl I'm getting the same symptons as you, not 5 mins ago I just said to my boss is it hot in here or just me, he looked at me oddly, so I took that to be just me then!

With all the choc talk I had to get myself a brownie at lunchtime - I blame you all

Have a great weekend all.

Swizzler · 25/08/2006 16:05

Whiffy: have a great birthday tomorrow. Hope voodoo lady works her magic on your back

I'm not getting hot flushes (yet) but I am walking like an old woman - too long sitting at my desk and I seize up!

Have a great weekend everyone - an extra day to sleep for me - bliss

sallyrosie · 25/08/2006 16:41

Can I join in? Bit late to all of this - only heard of mumsnet with all the hooha about 'she who cannot be named' but glad I found it!
For the record, I'm 27, second baby due 1st October, think its a boy. Have a little girl (2 1/2 now) already who is utterly gorgeous - such a fab age!

DogMum · 25/08/2006 18:39

Welcome sallyrosie. Hope your pregnancy is going well.

Marthahm - must be terrible waiting time for your friend. God, 5 mins would seem too long, but it's not good for you to worry either. Go on, give her a call. Hopefully it's good news but if (God forbid) it's not, her real friends won't judge her. As for the rest, she'd get criticism for having a termination and then get criticism if she didn't. Sounds as though she's clear about what she thinks is right for her, so she doesn't need to worry about what anyone else thinks.

Welcome back to the land of the living, Whiffy and hope the birthday goes well. My 40th is on the other side (just), so I don't think DP will be organising any parties. Just to make sure though I have told him that women don't like surprise parties - we like to buy a frock and have our hair done. Also, let's face it, we like to make all the decisions and do all the organising as well. Come on, admit it.

Swizzler, catgirl - all being well, I'd love to meet for some minor pigging on cake (as long as it's chocolate cake!)

Gingeme · 25/08/2006 18:42

Hi to the new ladies. Yes ofcourse you can join in. More the merrier.
Hope everyone has a great bank holiday. Were going to the zoo on Sunday. Hope the weathers good to us.
My knee is still quite painful. Keeping it strapped up for now.
Take care everyone xxxx

sallyrosie · 25/08/2006 20:33

thanks
just reading the past few days of threads - can't keep up!
For the record my belly button sticks right out and makes my bump look like an enormous third breast when I wear a tight t shirt. Have seriously considered one of those stick on daisy things you can get for your nipples.
Speaking of which, does anyone else have older children who are totally fascinated by the idea of mummy breastfeeding? My dd keeps announcing to the world that milk is going to come out of mummys nipples for the baby. Totally accurate, but somewhat embarrassing .
It is nice to be able to witter on a bit here, dh v busy applying for jobs at the minute and working like crazy as usual. I'm on mat leave now which is lovely, although now have no outside help and dd at home with me and feeling pressure (entirely from me) to have a perfectly clean and tidy home at the same time as providing educational yet fun activities for my daughter and cooking nutritious tasty meals for us all. Yummy mummy? In my dreams perhaps...
Anyone else suddenly feeling the need to be a domestic goddess?

girlygale1 · 25/08/2006 22:13

Welcome lenni and sallyrosie - Sallyrosie I have moments when I think that I should be at home being the domestic godess thing - but I can't cook for toffee, so soon give up on that! dh has really plain tastes so if I want to experiment - he is not the person to do that with!!! Totally know where you are coming from with regard to playing with dd and keeping house tidy - had a lovely day yesterday as I had to have the day off work, so devoted whole day to dd - and let her do what she wanted to do. Both of us got a lot out of it, but just meant that I had to hoover at 9 pm at night and hope she slept through it!!!!!

Lenni - You are more than welcome to join the B'ton catch up - not sure when and where exactly, but the more the merrier!!!

Anyway - being the sado I am I'm gonna watch love island (is anyone else addicted to it??!!!) - I even have to stay up to watch the episode after the news - no wonder I'm knackered!!!

Take care ladies, keep up the choccy!!! xxx

MoreSpamThanGlam · 25/08/2006 23:05

Can I join in too?

Am 37, also due 1st October. DD 11 and DS 7.

Am also hooked on Love island - SOPHIES JUTTING JAW DRIVES ME INSANE!!!

Also joined cos of she who cannot be named hoo-haa. (get a grip)

nowanearlyNicemum · 26/08/2006 10:35

Happy Birthday Whiffy - hope they're all making a big fuss of you.

OP posts:
mamado · 26/08/2006 13:31

I haven't possted for a while and its getting so busy on our october thread I can hardly keep up, especially now I'm on maternity leave and can't spend work-time m-netting!!! Huge congratulations to Kat, does make it all seem very real that one of us has got there! Dp keeps saying I need to be more prepared particularly since I was 2 months early, but since dd was 10 days late I really don't think there is any rush just yet.....but you never know! Better start buying those lovely disposable knickers, giant pads etc from Boots!

Also a big welcome to all the newbies

Any one else having to get up to go to the loo 4 or 5 times a night? Its driving me mad, especially since our loo in on a different floor so by the time I get back to bed I'm not only wide-awake but also slightly out of breath...I just hope it doesn't get worse from here!

I hope you all have a lovely bank holiday x

mamado · 26/08/2006 13:32
