Going to the loo every 5 minutes all night, achy hips and legs in bed, not being able to turn over without the aid of a forklift truck...ah, the last few weeks are just soooo much fun
My dd was induced as 10 days over and she was a big girl (8lb12) and not easy to push out (episiotomy: OUCH) - I'm only 5ft4 and small build so am dreading going post dates with this one as they say the second baby is usually bigger - HALF A POUND PER WEEK AT THE END OF PREGNANCY - YIKES. Desperate to go into spontaneous labour too so I have a nice slower build up of contractions not 0-60 in less time than a sports car.
Am thinking that around 37weeks would be nice - but that only gives me 2 and a bit weeks to get things started and head not even engaged yet - anyone know whether raspberry leaf tea actually works? I thought I might make my own from the garden! May have to give it a go.
Was trying to persuade midwife to do a sweep at 37 weeks but she was having none of it...

Anyone up?
Am swollen, having braxton hicks and generally feeling huge and bloated tonight!
Anyone had enough yet?

Report
MoreSpamThanGlam · 26/08/2006 23:10

And my loo trips average 8 per night ( i counted and averaged), Mainly because of my huge crushed ice craving.

sallyrosie · 27/08/2006 08:18

Finally! Someone else who craves ice! I thought it was just me. I was like this in my first pregnancy too. Hope you managed to get to sleep in the end

Yes, I'm starting to have had enough now. Feels like I've been pregnant all year!! Still 6 weeks to go though.

I keep thinking about sleeping without being pregnant (able to sleep on back, no aches etc) and then I remember the sleepless nights follow this bit!

Is anyone else mis judging the size of their bump, I walked straight into my DS's changing table this morning which really hurt, luckily I felt the baby moving quite a lot afterwards otherwise I would have been worried.

marthahm · 27/08/2006 12:09

hello all, i constantly misjudge the bump nicand2. especially in doorways, am starting to dislike the latch part that stands out from the door, keep impaling myself. worse is our miniscule kitchen which can no longer accomodate me plus dh. keep getting cross with him when i bump into him even though its not his fault. we had to give up being in the bathroom at the same time some while back.
sallyrosie have you considered acupuncture. alot of people have told me they swear by it for inducing the baby. i'm going to book an apt for 40 weeks.

I have no idea whether raspberry leaf tea works - I thought that was to soften your cervix I did take it with ds but he was born at 41+3 - so I couldn't say it helped - apparently pineapple does helps though, so maybe give that a try mmmmm I fancy that now I have said it

Hi, I have had enough - but have felt like that from day one! I did use raspberry leaf tea to prevent tearing, but ended up with an episiotomy so, can't tell if it would have worked. Also, no point in the pelvic floor before as he cut straight through any muscle I built up ... needless to say I daren't sneeze now!!!!!

I envy all you ladies who are due very soon, I've got 8 flaming weeks left!!!!

All I can say about the sleep is, at least in between the feeds you can gain some decent sleep. Whereas now - I too am seriously suffering with my hips, legs and back. Have hundereds of pillows placed everywhere to support bump and back, and push dh out of bed!!!! As soon as I get comfy, I have to get up and go to loo. Hate it really hate it.

Is anyone else suffering with stuffy noses? I seriously cannot breathe at night, which is really annoying too!. Loads of nose bleeds.

This is definitly the last one!!!!!

Good evening ladies. Ive been having terrible pains in my hips and legs. Usualy early hours of the morning. My dh woke me up the other night for snoring too so yes Im suffering with a stuffy nose or rather dh is!!! The weird thing is my heartburn seems to have gone Hope this doesnt mean babies moving down already still got 9 weeks to go. As for the misjudging the size of my bump goes had loads of bumping it today. Went to a wildlife park and trying to get in and out of toilet cubicles well, I had to sit back down on the loo open the door then stand up to leave. Got a few funny looks as I opened the door. My 2 year old ds keeps bumping his head underneath bump too which is a little painful...

Hello from newbie

I've had an ok pregnancy so far with no problems until this weekend. Now I've had some funny turns with racing heart rate, feeling hot and sick and wanting to lie down. Anything can set it off from having a shower, to folding up some washing.

I've seen the doc and they think it could be low iron. This morning I've stuffed a load of shredded wheat (for the iron), sprinkled raisins on top and necked loads of OJ. I really hope it stops because if I have another I have to have an ECG. ARGH.

I am 31 weeks pregnant and thought I'd got away with an easy pregnancy! Anyone else got weird stuff going on?

Report
sallyrosie · 28/08/2006 10:06

Hi Emily. Definitely sounds like a good reason not to be folding washing to me. Hope you get sorted out soon. You must feel bad to be eating shredded wheat...uggghhhh. Don't worry about having an ECG - totally painless, just stickers on your chest.
I feel faint and dizzy when I'm in the shower - blood pressure hits my boots I think - have started showering sitting down on the floor!
And Gingeme - know what you mean with hips/leg pain. Its awful isn't it - found myself dreaming about having sore legs the other night, only to wake and realise that they were actually sore...
Paracetamol helps me a bit, and it eases off by the end of the day. Anyone got one of those 'pregancy pillows'? Was quite tempted to get one but seems a waste of money with only a month to go.
One good thing about pregnancy that doesn't seem to be going away is increased interest in sex - dh fairly pleased about this, although quite tricky now I'm huge!! Plus it might bring on labour
Am going to look into acupuncture, sounds worth a shot, will try anything tbh!

Swizzler · 28/08/2006 10:11

Welcome to all the new people and good luck with all the aches and pains of those last months - just over 6 weeks to go for me and it feels like an age.

Emily: sounds like you're having a rough time at the moment. What about eating more red meat, or are you a veggie? Other good sources of iron are dark green veg and (I think) some pulses, but I could be wrong. There's also some stuff you can get in health food shops called Spatone which is supposed to be good and without some of the drawbacks of iron tablets.

At the risk of being pelted with rotten veg, I seem to be getting a bit more sleep at the moment - down to 2 loo visits a night. Maybe the baby has moved again. My next mw apointment is on Thurs so hopefully she'll be able to tell me if the position is OK.

Raspberry leaf tea: when do you start drinking it? I'm willing to try anything that might make labour easier

Hope you've all had/are having a good bank holiday weekend, despite the rain.

Oh, and re misjudging size of bump, I still have two iron marks from accidentally ironing my bump a couple of months ago!

Swizzler · 28/08/2006 10:13

Sallyrosie: you can get a v-shaped pillow from Argos for about 7 quid which may do the job. I've also got one of those long pillows, but am also planning on using it for breastfeeding, so it was worth the money (about 20 quid IIRC).

Gingeme · 28/08/2006 11:12

I have a triangle shaped pillow. Used it for everything with last ds even to sit him against when he was a bit stronger.A God send when breast feeding. Realy saved my back.Im taking Pregnacare tabs. Have been since discovering this pregnancy. Has all the vitamins and iron ect you need while concieveing, pregnant and breast feeding. Might be worth you ladies with the sickness and low blood pressure trying them. They dont seem to make you constipated either.
Re Raspberry leaf tea.I realy wouldnt bother. I took it near my due date with last ds. It tastes revolting, its quite expensive and well it gave me heartburn. But then by that stage so did everything else. Ok He came 4 days early but I dont think the tea had much to do with it.
Re sex; Whats that? Totaly gone off it. Have no inkling to even try it,Poor old dh its a good job hes a patient man bless him. xxxx

Hello everyone! I haven't posted for ages but have been keeping up with all your news. I've been signed off work for the last month because of bad dizzy spells, blood pressure is low and doc thinks it maybe due to how the baby is lying. Got to say it's fab being off work as I was really beginning to struggle, but also feel vey guilty as so many women at my work manage to work quite close to their due date.

What do Braxton hicks feel like? Not sure if I was getting them last night, tummy going hard and feeling uncomfortable down below?

Hi All. Welcome to the new joiners.
Whiffy I hope the party goes well. Hope you had a happy birthday.
Lenni I live in Brighton too so would be great to catch up. Girlgale/BendyB I think we work different days so not around on the same days for the next few weeks (as I work Tues-Thurs), but I finish work on 21st September, so perhaps we can do something Tuesday 26th September? (if we aren't otherwise enagaged giving birth!!)
well to add to the aches and pains stories- my evil piles are back! Got them exactly the same time when pregnant with DD. They have been killing me all weekend but are slightly better today. Plus, as I am now walking funny, I managed to fall half way down the stairs on Saturday. Am OK-more shocked than anything-so have backache to add to my piles ache. Have been so careful to eat fruit, veg and drink water am really ar*sed off (ha ha!). I reckon it is sitting at my desk all day or the long car journeys for work that has caused it. Justers-I am so jealous of your finishing work already- I can't wait. I would just enjoy it if I were you.

As you can probably imagine with my piles/backache /generally feeling sorry for myself symptoms, I am firmly in the no sex we're British camp. It will be 2007 I think before there is even any chance of nooky in this house!

I dont know whether I am going through a nesting stage - I hoovered the whole house today (given it is a 4 bedroom house there were a lot of carpets to hoover [shock}). I havent gone the whole hog though as the dishwasher needs emptied and refilled and dd's toys are still strewn about a bit. Oh well, one thing at a time!

Dh also went up the loft yesterday and I went through all the clothes we kept from dd - I have sorted them into 6 black bin liners and am planning on taking them to the charity shop later today - this new baby better be a boy . (I kept anything that was unisex so I have a few bits to start off with and can see what else I need)

I have bought raspberry leaf tablets as the tea was a bit vile. It is supposed to help tone the uterus and can shorten the second stage of labour (the pushing bit!) and lessen the need for forceps, etc. I havent decided when to start taking them yet though.

I never needed to go to the toilet last night (normally at least twice a night) plus dh and I had a bit of morning sex as well!! The chances are few and far between so he has to make the most of it when it is on offer!!

Oh well, only 6 weeks to go now

Gingeme, that's gone quickly! Hope you have a wonderful four days.

And Seona, sadly it's only a bank holiday in England - those bonk holidays in Scotland sound fab though.

Welcome to the new ladies and welcome back Justers - hope you're feeling better soon. Apart from that I'm keeping quiet because I still LOVE being pregnant. (8 weeks to go though, so plenty of time for suffering yet.)

Hi ladies, there is no way I am going to show dh this as he is SERIOUSLY deprived of sex - I have no interest in it all - I feel fat and completely unsexy, just want to curl up with in bed and try to sleep!!!! And ... he has taught our daughter to call me fatty fatty boom boom, so if he thinks he's getting anything from me for that ...!!!

Bendyb, lenni and majormoo - as far as I know the 26th Sept is good - dd has trampoline at 1 pm, but can come for the morning or after? - I finish work on 28th so if that date is not convenient for the others, I'll be free most days - dd will be at playschool on Monday and Friday mornings though!!!!

Report
girlygale1 · 28/08/2006 19:52

oh - forgot, I was under the impression that raspberry leaf tea was just to prevent tearing - not help making the last part of labour quicker - if that is the case, then it definitly worked for me as, the time I started pushing to the time dd came out was about 40 mins. So in that case, I think I'll start taking it again!

Can't remember when you should start taking it, but am seeing MW tommorrow so will ask her and let you know.
