gingeme - ((hugs)) for you, it must have been a very difficult and emotional time for you to have gone through re your boys xox if ever you need to talk about it, you have all us ladies on here to chin wag to, weebles as we all may be

tigerlion - my thoughts are with you, i hope that everything is alright. try not to get into too much of a worry (as much of a stupid statement as that is, as everything seems to be a bloddy worry when your pregnant) and wait to see what they say about everything at the hospital xox

nicand2 - i sympathise with how your feeling re the move. eventhough me and dh arent moving, we are decorating, (and have been for months) and it seems a never ending job at the moment. dh keeps trying to reassure me that all will be done b4 baby gets here tho. i hope that everything sorts itself out for you with the move

and as for everyone else, i hope that you are all doing well and feeling ok xox

Tigerlion: hope it all goes well today. It's good that they are picking up on any potential problems quickly, but I still hope it's a false alarm.

Gingeme: sounds like you're being really brave over it all. Hope you enjoy these last few weeks before the new baby arrives. And well done to your DS!

Hana: hope you;re taking it easy and having no further problems.

Definitely feels like the home strait now - 6 weeks to go, only 3 weeks at work

Well i think i am getting a taste of what it's like to have kids. I have been up since 5 this morning with my dog being sick everywhere, my husband had to leave for work after 6am. Dog was then sick more and then developed huge allegic reaction which caused his face to puff up to twice normal size. Phoned the vet whereby nurse said to phone back at 8.30 and i may get appointment!! Needless to say i ignored her and was waiting with my dog for when surgery opened, and played on being a distressed pregnant woman-worked a treat and my dog was seen straight away. He is now fine after antihistamine's running about daft completely oblivious to all my stress. I'm just sitting here exhusted and thinking that it's going to be a million times worse if the baby is ever sick. What have i let myself in for!!!

To top it off i missed meeting my friend for coffee and cakes!!

Welcome Emily. I have the same due date as you. Im keeping my fingers crossed this baby will be early too. Had a terrible night with that bloody itchy leg syndrome or whatever its called. I had to get up and walk about at 4 this morning trying to walk it off but to no avail. Woke up with back ache this morning and a horrid headache.
Never mind am feeling a bit more myself now. Going swimming soon that should ease my back a bit. Suppose this is what I get for going for number 4!
Oh Justers what a morning! Did the vet tell you what your poor dog was allergic to? Is it ok now? I can imagine it being quite frustrating bit like when a small child who is too young to speak is unwell and cant tell you what the problem is. Hope all is ok now

Tigerlion - hope everything was ok at the hospital. I was 'small for dates' with my first baby and had to have a growth scan at 35 weeks, it was so scary at the time. In the end my daughter was 8lb12 so hopefully everything will turn out well for you too.

I'm feeling crap today - developed really sore sore tummy last night - just all over achy and agony to walk/turn over/move at all! Went up to the hospital for a check and it turns out have pulled all of my stomach muscles but thankfully baby ok and got to listen to heartbeat for 1/2hr on the monitor . Felt a bit stupid but the mx and dr were lovely and very reassuring and didn't mind dd running around the assessment unit. Don't know how I've done it but having a 2 1/2 yr old probably has something to do with it. Should be resting really but house a tip and was really stressing me out so loaded myself with painkillers and have been cleaning all morning. Feeling a bit spacy and sick thanks to the codeine but all done now so can relax and meet my bf for coffee.

Gingeme - don't know the full story, but sounds crap to say the least. I'd hate to be parted from my dd. Thinking of you (and very impressed by the dry pants at age 2!!)

Oooh - add me to the list if anyone is clever enough to do it - due on 1st, 2nd baby, scan said a boy. 2 1/2 yr old dd already

Justers, you poor thing. I'd be worried sick if my dog's face puffed up. Glad to hear that the antihistamine has done the trick. Is he having allergy tests? For the bloods, you have to wait two weeks after antihistamine before testing. At the moment (ie. pre-baby) I think dogs are excellent preparation - if nothing else, DP and I have worked through some issues in raising a dog together - I no longer feel he's having a go at me if the dog isn't behaving himself. I sincerely hope my baby never eats its poo and sicks it up at my feet though. I'm not worried about him being sick these days - it's overindulgence on pears in the back garden. He actually jumps up the tree to get the lower branches - little sod.

And thinking of you Tigerlion, hope all is well. I know everyone keeps saying that having a baby is healthy and natural, but thank heaven for medical science at those times we need it.

I've added you, Sallyrosie and Emily. It's probably not a large enough sample to be scientific, but it'll be interesting to see how accurate the sonographers are these days.

wow, we seem to have new posters on this thread every time I come back to it....welcome all the newbies.

Re: raspberry leaf I tried last time and it just made me feel ill - disgusting stuff. Definately not worth whatever it is it is supposed to do (I only knew it was supposed to bring labour on)...

Tigerlion & gingeme, thinking of you both - stressful times.

Regarding piles, my GP offered to 'lance' mine a while back which apparantly isn't as bad as it sounds. Apparantly.

Just back from MW visit and an elective C-S is looking like the way to go, the final factor in the decision being that LO is now lying back-to-back breech (which explains the sodding back pain). Due date now likely to be around 19th Sept but will know for sure Monday morning when I see consultant.... cripes. that's 3 weeks away.

Hana - I have no experience of placenta abruption but a friend had it, spent last 2 weeks of pg in hospital just resting and then had her DD at 38 weeks - all went fine - worst thing she found was spending all the time in hospital with bugger all to do. Hope it all goes ok.

Oh and thanks for all your birthday greetings - my birthday party was good even though I was wolfing down cups of peppermint tea whilst everyone else drained off my champagne stash - will have to get some more in to wet the baby's head. Best thing about party though was that DH had (unknown to me) instructed everyone to leave the house by 9.30 prompt and sure enough, they all left us to it so I didn't end up exhausted and fretful. Nah, I saved that for following day when I burst into tears in M&S because I need to buy a nightie for hospital bag (and has to be a nightie because of likely C-S) and the only styles they had were just tooooooo naff for words. DH ran round picking out these nylon monstrosities telling me I'd look just too hot to trot in lavender with rose prints and contrasting piping. So obviously I burst into tears and could only be comforted by large helpings of strawberry cheesecake.

Dogmum my aunts dog used to eat carrots in fact he ate so many one time his pooh was bright orange.
Well theres alot to be said about swimming and back ache. Its realy helped. Now I know why Im having a water birth again.
Thankyou sallrosie. You sound a bit like me as far as housework is concerned. I get so stressed if my flat is untidy. Even more so when dh leaves dirty clothes on floor after bathing ds3 and I d normalt pop up and down picking it up but at the moment noe chance of that!!
Anyway time to start dinner. Everyones hungry after all that swimming.

Well my wee dog's face is now back to normal, thank godness. Vet seems to think it must be something in the house that's triggered it and due to my frantic nesting instincts last night he may have a point as i think i had every household cleaning product on the market out in full force! Poor thing he's suffering already and the baby hasn't even arrived yet!

Glad the party went well, whiffy and what a fab idea - telling people to go by 9.30. When dp has his party in a couple of weeks, I'll be lucky if they go by 9.30 in the morning!

As for raspberry leaf tea, I'm really not tempted. Someone told me that a couple of glasses of wine in early labour can be beneficial though. (Now I'm tempted.) Any idea whether it's true?

Ikwym about bending down, gingeme. I'm getting near the point where dp will have to put my shoes and socks on before he goes to work. And I'll have to try my dog on cooked carrots - raw ones just come out lumpy, but it's good for the system. (Sorry tmi.) If my Dad is looking after the dog, he always describes the poo in detail. I dread to think what he'll be like with the baby.

Glad your dog is better Justers. 'My dog is allergic to cleaning products' sounds like a wonderful excuse.

I don't think we've heard from MrsBlobby for a while now. If you're out there, MrsBlobby please let us know you're ok.

Had my 34 week check today and my blood pressure is slightly higher than usual so I have to have it checked again next week. I was wondering when the check ups would start going down hill!

My mum is convinced I won't go full term and to be honest 37 weeks sounds good to me at the moment, Im starting to dread going to bed as I can never get comfortable.

Is anyone watching when Kim and Aggie went to hospital on tv? wish I hadn't started watching it now, it's really making me worried about having baby in hospital!!

Report
Tigerlion · 30/08/2006 21:24

Spent a few hours being monitored today and FORTUNATELY was sent home as they were no longer concerned. My BP had gone back to normal and the baby measured 33cm. The MW said that there can sometimes be a discrepancy between days as I may have just gone to the loo before one measurement and I may have just drunk masses of water before another. I am so relieved as I didn't want to stay in hospital for weeks being monitored and I would prefer to have the baby nearer term, as it would widen the age gap between DS and baby - 14 months between them sounds a bit easier to cope with than 12 and a half months between them!

Your party sounds great Whiffy. What huge willpower to stick to the peppermint tea and not have a glass of champagne!

I bought some raspberry leaf tablets today as they are meant to be far more effective than the tea and supposedly help induce labour. Having gone 10 days overdue last time, anything other than pineapple, curry, sex (?!) to bring it on! I also bought arnica tablets as these really help with bruising. If you start taking them every few hours from when your contractions first start, they help with the healing process. Has anyone ever used Feme pads? They are cool pads that you put down below and are meant to do wonders to any pain experienced. I did not have stitches last time but it was fairly painful when walking etc for around 5 days after the birth. I saw the feme pads at Mothercare and they cost around £15. I will buy them if they work but am not keen if it is just another gimmick.

Did anyone see the programme on Channel 5 the other day about attachment parenting? Can't believe how thae poor 9 month old was brought up without nappies. It is messy enough with them, I can't imagine without them. And breastfeeding both a 3 year old and a 4 year old at the same time. Quite something...

Good luck to everyone with their 34 week check ups.

God we are all falling to bits! Was trying to be positive about the whole thing earlier for my bf (27weeks with her first) but every time I open my mouth to talk about late pregnancy I end up going on about not being able to turn over in bed, or going to the loo hundreds of times a night, or back and leg pain... then she asks about labour and rather than saying that its all lovely and calm and beautiful I end up wittering on about my episiotomy, or pooing yourself during labour, or having to wee in the shower afterwards cos its so sore, or having boobs that squirt milk when the baby cries... I am traumatising the poor girl...
Whiffy - will they try an ECV before booking you for section? Funny really how people go to great lengths to avoid it, yet 'celebs' seem to book themselves in for an elective one at the drop of a hat. Still, it stops your pelvic floor being absolutely mashed to pieces. Must do some squeezes while I remember as keep leaking when I cough Sorry for TMI!!

Oh Tigerlion am so pleased for you what fab news!
Haven't heard of Feme pads - what I had last time was a stock of maternity pads soaked in water (you can't use the type with gel in, they just get too big) and then frozen. Sounds scary but fab for stitches and you can just chuck em away. Don't know if I'd like to have to wash a pad clean after using it...yuck...

Hi all! Haven't posted for a while so thought I'd say hello again.
Tigerlion, thanks for the tips on Arnica tablets, I will give them a go. Has anyone bothered with pereneal massage in the past? Did it make any difference?
I have bought some Feme Pads - a couple of friends who've recently had babies told me they were the best thing they'd bought and really helped.
Also if anyone's suffering from leg cramps, try putting a magnet in the bottom of your bed. Bizarre I know, but my mum insisted it worked. I did it last night and was cramp free so maybe there's something in it!
I have 6 weeks to go now and less than a fortnight at work. I can't believe we are all on the home straight now - I for one certainly feel like I have been preggers forever!
Whiffy, I know what you mean about the nighties - ughh!! I eventually got a couple of vest-type ones from Mothercare, only to be told by a friend I should have got navy or black because of the blood-staining. I got pink and can't really afford to go and buy any more.
Tigerlion - where did you buy the Raspberry Leaf tablets from?

Report
Tigerlion · 31/08/2006 09:28

I bought the raspberry leaf tablets from Holland and Barret but after I bought them I typed them in online and there were really good deals, far cheaper than the £6 that I paid for 100. Also, H & B did not sell any containers with less than a 100 and I cannot see myself taking anywhere near as many.

DH did perineal massage last time (must have been really sexy for him...!) for around 3 weeks and I gave birth to a 8lb13 boy needing no cuts or stitches whatsoever. I am sure that the stretching of down there helped towards that. Look at this \link{http://www.epino.com/birth.htm\product from germany. It is a balloon that you basically inflate and deflate to help stretch your pelvic floor. Can you imagine pumping that a few times a day?!

I am still after a good Tens machine. Would really appreciate your tips as to what you all got as I know that some out there are meant to be rubbish.

When I was on the labour ward yesterday I saw lots of newborns. I alwatys get so emotional when I see them and can't believe quite how close we are to having them ourselves.

Tigerlion: great news. Hope you can now relax a bit.

Whiffy: glad the party went well. If you go for a CS, looks like you'll definitely be the next to have your baby. I'm def getting a bit impatient and tired of this pregnancy lark. Would like to be able to get out of the bath without major convolutions!

Def trying for a water birth this time around. Also contemplating joing local gym for a few weeks just for the pool - my current gym mebership runs out today and I'm finding swimming so relaxing. Getting out of the pool is a bit difficult, though

We all seem to be suffering a bit now - at least it's not long to go.

you can get the raspberry tablets from Holland & Barrett I think.

I used feme pads last time round but seem to remember only getting them out a few times - can't remember if they did any good or not, it was all a blur I'm afraid.

BTW the C-S isn't really about the baby being breech but has been recommended because I had partial pelvic collapse last time - wrote about it on the thread donkeys years ago. Basically I ended up double-incontinent and had to have electric shocks where the sun doesn't shine . Consultant recommended I avoid risk this time but I have been umming and ahhing over it for the whole PG. Yesterday finally decided it for me - the pelvic floor thing was due to a prolonged/difficult labour which is exactly what you will get for sure with a back-to-back.

Am relieved actually that decision finally made as I have been swinging backwards and forwards so much as regards what to do. So am quite pleased now (though I suspect that pain of surgery will wipe smile off my face for sure).

Off to voodoo woman for more spine relief today. Knowing Jane she will just flip the baby over later today using reflex and I'll end up back in a quandry again! such is life.

Our new pram arrived yesterday and DH spent an entertaining morning setting it up, so I had the full demo when I got in from work. We got the Mamas and Papas pramette and it looks great. Folds up small and is quite light. Also got the black/grey design so it won't show the muck

Hello all

Wow we are all falling to pieces aren't we! I didn't come in to work yesterday as I felt so rough, had a real bout of nausea in the night and was exhausted! But it is the home straight, and like many am fed up with this pg mullarky although it's slightly scary hearing the decisions people are having to make. I still have head in sand syndrome thinking I'll go from this bloated whale look to cradling bundle of joy in arms without thinking of the bit inbetween!

Whiffy I'm glad you had a good birthday celebration, that was very thoughtful of your dh to get everyone out by 9.30.
I know what you mean by the nightie selection out there - hideous! But glad the cheesecake helped
