Hi everyone - I don't usually get the chance to log on during the day (either at work where they haven't heard of the internet!!!) Or to be honest ... If I'm off and dd is asleep ... I'm asleep too!!!!!!! Had to do some ironing so sitting here flagging!!!!

Unbelievable about Kat - that woman should have known better - as if she doesn't have enough to contend with already. Love to Kat xx

Now I seriously doubt what I am having - had a strong feeling it was going to be a boy all along as completely differnt pregnancy to dd - then they said it was a girl (did see) but now have a feeling its a boy again!!!! (great, just washed all dd's stuff ready!!!)

Oh well - will have to wait and see. I can guarentee to you all that I will be the last to drop. I hate pregnancy and am willing it to happen soon, so I will be the last!!!!!

Majormoo - I would love to catch up, I too am not very good at getting to London, let alone on my own! Let me know if and when ... if there is anyone else in the sussex area let us know!!!

OMG I can't believe Kat had her LO - but as DogMum says it is very encouraging to know that they are all viable now.
One of the girls who I work with had a sister who was due at the end of October, and she had her baby at 29 weeks - at 3lb was a good weight and both are doing well, but even though the baby was small it still hurt like hell apparently. I keep looking in my white book where it has graphs of head circumference and calculating the current diameter - don't go and look it up - far too worrying - I will just stick to my theory that a good sneeze and it will pop out!

Thanks for the tip, Majormoo - will get the video on for a good lech later. (Might as well, as DP seems to think I'm some sort of pure goddess-like born-again-virgin, so I'm not going to be getting anything else for a while.) And hopefully we'll see you and girlygale at the next London meetup.

Happy moving BendyB. I've got to move stuff around within the house, but I don't think I face a whole house move at this stage.

Had an embarrassing moment at antenatal class last night. The teacher was encouraging the men to massage their partners and give them a hug. DP piped up that that was how it all started and everyone looked at me as if they HADN'T done it too. Then she got the dolls and the foam breast out to demonstrate breastfeeding, which was ok until DP caught sight of it while we were doing the relaxation/breathing exercises and then he couldn't stop laughing. OMG, what's he going to be like at the birth?

Welcome back Catgirl, hope you had good hols.

Haven't posted for a while but welcome to anyone who's new and congratulations to Kat. What a shock!

I have 7 weeks to go today and really glad the end is in sight now!! My mum has popped round today and taken a giant bag of DS's baby clothes home to wash so I can cross that off my list. I'm looking forward to getting them all back beautifully washed and ironed, what a treat!

I've also been getting my hospital bag ready which is probably a bit early but I will relax knowing we are ready to go, especially after Kat's news!

One quick 'toddler' question for all of you with other LO's what age did they start talking? my DS is 21 months and although he babbles all day long the only real recognisable word is daddy. he's got his 18-24 check soon and I'm worried he's a bit behind with his vocabulary. I know he can hear ok and I try to talk to him all the time but he just seems content to do things in his own time

Report
Gingeme · 23/08/2006 22:33

nicand2 all toddlers develop at different rates. Though my ds3 has extremely good vocab for his age my ds1(now 12 and never shuts up!) Didnt say any real recognisable words till he was about28 months. We had his hearing tested and he was nearly taken to a speach therapist then all of a sudden he said 'Daddy' then 'MuMMY and that was it there was no stopping him.
Just a silly question for you all whos belly button is sticking out now? Mine isnt and didnt with any of my pregnancies.

Hello all

I've been having moments of nausea too in the last couple of days, it usually happens when I lie down in bed, weird because I didn't get any nausea at the beginning of my pg.

Your post made my laugh DogMum, since my dh learned about the muscus plug at antenatal classes his got right off you know what, I think he's worried he might kebab it !!! (wishful thinking!)

At our class this week we had a women come in and demonstrate real nappies, she was from the nappy lady, I was really impressed that I might give it a go. Anyone else thinking of using real nappies? I went to the nappy lady website and they will come to your house and give no obligation free advice for what type of real nappy suits your situation. The site is run by a mum so that makes me want to support them rather then other companies.

clon · 24/08/2006 11:43

Forgot to say gingeme I think my dh will be quite disappointed if I don't end up with an outie, he keeps a close eye on it for some reason! It looks ready to pop but no change yet.

Tigerlion: hope your ds gets better soon.

Very at those whose belly buttons haven't popped out - mone did ages ago. V. distressing. No stretch marks yet, though

Report
DogMum · 24/08/2006 12:44

My belly button is stretched completely flat, but not sticking out yet. I've also had a couple of stretch mark scares - one turned out to be a scratch and the next one a hair. I keep saying I don't mind whether I get them or not, but that doesn't explain my detailed scrutiny of my bump for telltale signs.

I haven't had nausea as such, but I have vommed a couple of times recently. Sitting still for quite a while after eating seems to help.

Also Tigerlion, I'm going for mamatens (.co.uk I think) It looks quite modern and the lady who takes my antenatal class said she'd used it for a mum.

We looked into real nappies clon, but after some cost assessments and a bit of self-examination (like would I really be efficient enough to get them washed and dried?), we've decided to give compostables a try instead. We're starting with Moltex from spirit of nature (online) and then see how it goes.

It sounds as though it's worth going to antenatal classes just to get the reaction from the men on the different things. They tend not to read everything they can lay their hands on about childbirth (the way we do), so I think it's probably more beneficial for them than us. My DP was telling a colleague about the foam breast yesterday and his colleague said that at his antenatal classes (probably about 13 years ago), when it came to breastfeeding positions the teacher actually got her breast out!!!! I PMSL and almost dropped the dinner (which I was trying to serve.)

had a wonderful holiday thanks DogMum, lots of time to talk to dh and figure out what we need to do to 'nest'!

My belly button is nearly flat, but didn't stick out last time, so hope it doesn't this time. However, streach marks have reappeared - at least I can't see them!

We used real nappies last time, so will be getting them out of the loft, once we have cleared out the spare (baby) room of all the junk that seems to have found its way in!

a good site for lots of helpful info on cloth nappies is www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk -under choosing/using cloth nappies, is a very helpful bit about the different types.

not going for a tens machine this time, but last time didn't even get it out of the box as I was too busy vomiting! Sorry if that is TMI

Was very productive in work yesterday, but feel like I have done nothing yet today - maybe I have peaked! Still only another 5 weeks in work and my temp cover starts in 3 weeks so that should help.

Sorry to have missed the London meet up - anyone organising a September one, or is that too close to due dates?

am now feeling really sick after eating a whole bag of choc eggs from waitrose - not sure if that counts though!

Report
jmcmugwump · 24/08/2006 14:17

I think the choc eggs might hafve something to do with it cat girl!

I have felt a bit sick at night but I put it down to lying down too quicklly after I had eaten, so if I stay sat up for a while and have a swig of Gaviscon it seems to ease.

I did contemplate re-usable nappies, but after my sister sho has a 2yr old had picked herself off the floor laughing she said her friend had tried them and her son had developed nappy rash within about 4 hours of putting them on which kind of deterred me - had anyone else used them and what sis you think?

And has anyone got any reccomendations for travel systems? I am starting to panic now that I have nthing to bring my lo home in after it puts in an appearance, but there are so many to choose from it makes my head spin!

Report
catgirl · 24/08/2006 14:49

we used cloth nappies last time, and will do this time, no idea what your friend did, but you should use a liner of some description and we also put vaseline on as a 'barrier'. Our ds did get nappy rash around teething, but then so do children in disposable nappies. As with all things do to the being a parent, once you are used to the routine of nappies they are fine - look cute too with big bums!

Can't advise on travel system, we were given a moses basket and car seat last time, so just bought a pram sutiable from birth. From what I remember of others using them they can be quite heavy, so if you have stairs to manage with it, that should be a consideration. Also, those that bought travel systems, tended to buy maclaren buggies from about 6 months onwards! Maybe a maclaren that would work from birth? Too much choice these days!

Think I will have to have more willpower in waitrose next time - no more choc eggs... ughh

Report
clon · 24/08/2006 15:31

jmcmugwump I am the same as you re the buggy/travel system thing, has my head spinning too! After consulting friends with their pros and cons, my priorities are must fold down using one hand, not too heavy so can put on and off public transport, can get into the boot of car and have a bumper bar as not sure about my driving the thing so want something that has some barrier for the poor mite. I also think it looks so cute when you see lo's hanging on the the bars for support to have a nosey around them!

I'm going to have a go with the real nappies after the first 2 months (I'll need that to get over the shock)and there's no way I'm telling my sisters until I've had a go, they would react in the same way yours did!

Report
majormoo · 24/08/2006 17:52

you lot are very good with the real nappies. I am afraid I am just too lazy. DH is quite keen on giving them a try. Maybe I should as I feel a bit guilty now!

jmcmugwump/clon, we bought a mamas and papas travel system and it was a pain in the back side. As catgirl said we bought a maclaren as soon as we could, and I felt liberated when I got it! So my advice would be to try to go as lightweight as you can, whatever sort you go for. Mind you, we never connected the car seat to the pram, so maybe if you do this a lot it might be worth going the travel system route.

Your DHs are good with the antenatal classes-my DH was too scared to go to the breastfeeding one!

My belly button is very stretched but still an inney! No stretchmarks yet but still 7 weeks or so of stretching to go, so I am slapping the cream on every morning without fail.

I am getting really achey when I walk at the moment. And getting up from sitting down is a nightmare. Is anyone else having this? Don't remember being this uncomfortable last time, but perhaps I have a selective memory!

Girlgale/Bendy I could meet up on a Monday or Friday though would have DD in tow. Not sure where would be easiest between Hastings/Crawley/Brighton though!

I'm in London 7th and 13th September with work, so if anyone is around then I could meet up.

Hi everyone

I would highly recommend the mamas and papas pliko p3 (probably newer version now) travel system. The car seat is fantastic - just clicks in and out of a box so you don't spend hours faffing around with seat belts - then clicks onto the pram/buggy - it lays completely flat so you can go out for a walk with baby and he/she can sleep comfortably - I still use it with mydd (2.5) and only bought a small buggy to go on holiday with for the plane. Have washed it up ready for baby and will use that along with the double I haved just acuired when I only have the one.

My belly button popped out practically from day 1 - very depressing!

Majormoo and Bendyb I am totally up for meeting in B'ton - I work all day on Thursdays and Fridays - Mondays are tricky as dd starts playschool, but Tues and Weds am - are fine, I will have dd though. Next week dh is off so should really spend the time with him - but week after 'I'm free'!!!

Has anyone got any more news on Kat?

Good evening ladies. Sorry to hear about your nausea. No dont suppose the choc eggs realy helped though catgirl.
Went swimming today. It was lovely to feel so totaly weightless. Just made me feel so bloody heavy when I got out the pool though. My bump feels so heavy now too and my left thigh keeps going numb too. Think babys lying on a nerve he shouldnt.
Had a bit of a scare today. I slipped over. Was on a Forero Rochet lid that I got for my anniversary. Didnt fall on bump thank goodness but my elbow and knee realy hurt now. Think I was more embaressed than anything else. Baby moved straight after and has been wriggling lots since so Im not worried.
Another meet up would be brill. Especia;y if its at Pizza Express again. That was so yummy.

Sorry Majormoo, I can't make either of those dates for a meetup - we have a lot of family birthdays in September.

Hope you've recovered from the shock Gingeme. What a relief that LO is wriggling. Mine gave me a bit of concern yesterday, as didn't move much - just enough not to call the hospital. And then it was the baby olympics in bed this morning. This is another of those things your mother never tells you, how much you're going to worry if your baby doesn't move. I laways thought I'd find it freaky, but actually I like it.

All I can think about after Catgirl's post is chocolate. I fancy a whole bar of that lovely Green&Blacks stuff with cherries. We've got some chocolates in the fridge that MIL brought round last time they came for lunch, but I made the mistake of looking at the ingredients and it's just a load of chemicals. I can satisfy those cravings with floor cleaner. I WANT CHOCOLATE.
