place marking, will catch up soon

annatha · 06/04/2014 19:53

I'm not sure alita, I don't think so as I'm sure the midwife said she'd be putting things in the post and then I'd hear from the hospital, I'm thinking that if I haven't heard by Tuesday I'll ring the midwives to double check (I live in a little town in Cumbria, so the hospital is an hour away) and get a direct number for the maternity unit. I'd much prefer to book, as I don't have set days off work so the sooner I know, the sooner work can publish the rota!

utopian99 · 06/04/2014 20:55

I'm 7+5 and got my scan date a few days ago, booking in is on Wednesday. Dh was all for hanging in there till the nhs scan but as I seem to be having a worse time if it this time round, sickness wise, and it's harder to hide from family we thought about an early scan to check. Now dh's ex and her gf have got engaged and when we saw them this weekend told us they're hoping for a November wedding so we've booked an early scan for Saturday so that we can tell them early as it would be awful to miss it (and they'd be sad too, I'm not being egotistical - we're on a relatively small guest list and dh's ex's gf is one of his oldest friends..)

Excited about early scan but nervous too. And don't want to announce that we're expecting to take away from engagement news - although this is our dc2 so less drama and excitement I think than an engagement anyway?

In other news, definitely agree with those who are finding jeans tight already. Sad Last time I looked utterly normal till about 5 months, this is awful!

booksshoescats · 06/04/2014 21:07

Hi everyone - just done an almighty catch-up with all the news, so trying to keep everything straight in my head. Here goes:

Thanks for the new thread, barmy

blamber - that’s fantastic news on your scan. What a relief for you!

Elliekins - I’m 10 weeks tomorrow and I’ve told about 8 friends, one colleague (also a friend), parents and siblings and my boss. Some I told straight away – I can’t bear the pressure of no one knowing and feeling like I'm acting all weird around everyone, and I told people I’d tell if anything went wrong anyway. Also, I’ve really started showing this week. In mat trousers as of yesterday, but tbh I’ve not been able to wear most of my trousers since 7 weeks – just too uncomfortable having something pressing in. My best friend from university was up this weekend and she guessed straight away!

alita - poor poor you. The whole scenario sounds like complete torture. His dad sounds very sweet though Smile. And yes, boobs were hurting less by nine weeks, although nipples v sensitive! And today I think my bra was a bit tight and they started hurting again, but they’re better now I’ve taken it off

Zebra - how worrying – hope you get some answers soon.

annarose they won’t normally listen for the baby till you’re at least 12 weeks as if they can’t find the heartbeat they figure it can be unnecessarily worrying. I would go for a private scan if you’re not due one till 20 weeks, though, definitely. Much too long to wait and as others have said, too late for nuchal test. Re the headache – I had a four-day one at about 7 weeks. Was horrible, and the quantity of paracetamol you say you’ve taken sounds fine to me from all I’ve read about that.

*MrsWombat – have a lovely holiday!

HRMumness - Yes to all that – bump and breathless. I’ve had a virus, and the air’s been horrible so that's not helped, but I was already feeling a bit like that by 6 weeks. I also already have that pressure pushing up into my diaphragm feeling that I didn’t get till about 20 weeks last time.

Got a busy week ahead, but I'll try not to leave it so long to catch up next time - it's so nice being here with everyone in a similar position Smile

Read this and laughed. Sorry, it's a facebook post about a parent dish post. Can't link properly as on ipad.

alita7 · 06/04/2014 21:46

that's funny Mrs wombat, though a bit too close to home hehe

nickiswiss · 06/04/2014 21:56

Sorry i haven't been on for a bit... So tired all week and spent the weekend catching up on sleep, work and time with ds!
I have started showing big time (8+5) ... Today, even more so ( tummy has popped out and stretch marks have appeared where i didn't have marks last tine !) is this normal for no2? I love it but its going to be tricky to hide from work this week... (Im not small anyway-size 20, but this is a def bump!!!)Was hard to hide at work night out on friday ( bowling with the lightest ever ball!)
Hope you all have a happy week!!

TeaNCakes · 06/04/2014 22:26

Hi all,

I'm 8+4 today, first pregnancy. Joined mumsnet this evening for some moral support as my DH has gone away on business. He's been brilliant since I've been feeling rubbish, and I'm not sure how I'm going to cope without him!

I've got a viability scan tomorrow after having a sub chorionic bleed at 6 weeks, so hopefully will be good news. I still feel lousy which I'm hoping is a good sign, albeit an unpleasant one!

I've got an appointment through for my nuchal scan at 13 weeks, but not heard anything yet about booking with midwife, should I be trying to call someone?

Brew Cake

HRMumness · 06/04/2014 23:45

So glad I'm not the only one showing early. Thanks to all the second timers who commented.

annarose usually get the aura beforehand? At least that's what I used to have when I got them. One thing I learnt is that they sometimes affect your digestion, so I would have to take the quick acting nuerofen for it to have any affect. Paracetamol did nothing for them. Horrible things, hope you feel better.

Tigsy · 07/04/2014 00:25

I think you do show sooner if it's not your first child. However, I'm definitely looking a lot bigger and it is my first, so I don't even have an excuse! It's just the amount I've been eating to try and stop feeling sick!

Got my booking appointment Tuesday- maybe that will make it feel more real because even after an early scan it doesn't feel real.

8 + 4

alita7 · 07/04/2014 00:52

why is it that I am queasy (and apparently vomiting now which doesn't help the hunger) during the day and can't stomach much then at bed time my body decides to be starving no matter how much food I put in it , right when there's no food...
With showing, I can see a difference, dp can see a difference but as I mentioned I had a lot of issue's with foods making me bloat, particularly bread when I was on the pill, so people are used to my belly varying in size and probably haven't noticed yet :)
Tigsy my scan made me believe I was pregnant more than I did before. my midwife appointment kinda helped but really it's just clicked in the last couple of days since I turned 9 weeks :)

MrsWombat · 07/04/2014 04:01

I love my son!

Lovely MIL made us Cornish pasties for our journey. But she normally makes sausage rolls. So DS said, "thank you very much nanny. Can we have sausage rolls as well." So now she's made us a batch of those as well. Just what I need for a long trip. Grin

As long as she doesn't pop round while the midwife is here. Or after, because DS will say something about "the nurse". Blush

MrsWombat · 07/04/2014 04:35

It's hard to say if I'm really showing, because I have a bit of a belly anyway. A small band of fat around my belly button area. Blush This has actually reduced a bit over the past couple of weeks, probably due to a lot less coffee but not biscuits and a lot more fruit and wholemeal foods.

But over the past couple of days the bit below from pubic bone up (where baby actually is) has started to get swollen, and I can notice a small bump when I wear my tracksuit bottoms at home, but not enough for DP to notice. Don't notice it when I'm wearing jeans, and I don't think people are looking at my nether regions either, thankfully!

I wasn't super slim before DC1 but I did have a flat stomach, and the public bone area was definitely where the bump started to appear from. It's funny because you think of "your bump" being where your belly button is, but it's not for the first few months!

Welcome TeaNCakes! What's your due date and someone will add you to the list? I suggest you ring your hospital and get hold of the community midwife team to find out when your appointment is.

AveryJessup · 07/04/2014 05:38

Thanks for kicking off the new thread, barmy! Just checking in to mark my place - no news here. Still off my food, tired, achey and some odd pinching and fluttering down below (almost like feeling movements but surely that's impossible at 9 weeks??) but no radical change in any direction. My blood tests for abnormalities and 12-week scan are scheduled for April 23rd and 30th, respectively, so I'm basically wishing the entire month of April away!

I too am starting to develop a bit of a bump nicki and HRMumness. I was getting away with just undoing the top button of my jeans up to now but today I felt really uncomfortable with that so may have to dig some of my old maternity trousers out of the back of the closet! So far I haven't told anyone in my family but I did tell two friends here that I see regularly because even if anything did happen now after the 8 week mark, I would probably end up telling them one way or another. My family, on the other hand, are thousands of miles away so I wouldn't want to worry them when they can't do anything to help me.

Can we also update my due date on the list to November 10th? That was the new date I got at my 8 week scan last week - thank you! Grin

im going to need maternity jeans very soon. normal ones are so uncomfortable. ive got some maternity clothes from last time but my jeans gave up and had holes in lol

barmybunting · 07/04/2014 07:55

Welcome teancake! I hope your scan goes well this week. A number of us have had to have early scans after bleeds at a similar time and I totally understand your worry! Fingers crossed you see a happy wiggly bean there with a lovely heartbeat!

Is anyone else quietly panicking about things going wrong still? I know we can't do anything, and I haven't had much bleeding since my scan a week and a half ago but for some reason I'm really scared that we'll see a mmc at the 12 week scan. I have no reason for this but I'm still worrying about it!

We told DH's parents and brother last night. I thought they would worry endlessly about the timing (we are moving to some unknown destination in Dec/Jan due to DH's job and DH is in the middle of a very demanding year at work which they constantly worry about.). But they are absolutely over the moon, and couldn't be more excited! If anything, this just made me worry more in case something goes wrong as I'd feel like we'd let them down as this first grandchild on both sides is eagerly awaited for!

The worry never really stops, does it?

OP posts:
Petal26 · 07/04/2014 08:31

Morning all!

barmy I'm worrying at the moment. Started being sick last week, first thing in the morning, and then the last two days I have felt fine in the morning and eaten normally. Worrying that something has happened now :-s One of these cases where I want to be sick to know everything is alright, but obviously don't at the same time!

Felt well enough yesterday to have the first coffee in well over a week and was awake until 1:30am! Not doing that again today!

Booking in appointment attempt #2 today, hopefully been booked a long enough slot.

Hope everyone is feeling ok :-)
8+3 today.

Miskate · 07/04/2014 09:00

Barmy I am still worrying, despite not having any bleeding or anything like that. I am SO AFRAID of seeing a mmc when I go for the scan next week, and then because it's only 10 weeks and not 12 (the magic number!) I am probably still going to worry after that. maybe it's a first baby thing to be such a turkey?

Tigsy · 07/04/2014 09:07

Barmy I'm the same. My early scan was exactly as it should be and I've had no reason to be concerned (no bleeding or anything) but I'm also worried about the 12 weeks scan and keep thinking something might have happened in the meantime since my last scan.

ladydolly · 07/04/2014 09:08

Miskate are you going to tell people after your 10 week scan? I've got a 10 week scan and a 12 week with a work conference in between (which is why I've booked the early one - so I can tell work I'm not lifting any heavy boxes or doing 20 hour days like I normally do).

But I don't know whether to wait until the NHS one at 12 weeks to be 'safe'? Statistically your chance of miscarriage flatlines at 9 weeks...

WinterLover · 07/04/2014 09:14

major panic here, no reason to worry. My 7 week scan was fine, I still feel sick, still being sick, belly is growing and boobs are massive and sore but I have that worry something is going to go wrong.

Miskate · 07/04/2014 09:21

I told family literally the moment I got the positive test, as there'd been a lot of discussion re my fertility when I thought I was infertile and then turned out to be totally fine on Clomid (drama queen).

I had a private scan at 7w+3, and told a few people then (close work friends, my best friends as we were all at a biog 30th weekender bender, where I was conspicuously not getting hammered as usual).

I will tell everyone else around 11 weeks, so a week after my NHS scan at 10 weeks, as I'm on holiday during the week of the scan. My next scan won't be until the 20 weeker, so i ahven't got much of an option really I don't think.

You could wait till the 12 week one to be 'safe', and I can see the temptation there, but it is based purely on superstitions - if there's a heartbeat and everything is normal size at 10 week, you're NORMALLY fine. Of course I keep reading people's stories about how they had a scan at 9 weeks and everything was fine, and then another at 11 weeks, everything fine, and then boom, baby gone in week 13. so. Sheeit.

StudyFullTime · 07/04/2014 09:33

just been for my scan and saw a little peanut and a heartbeat, am very happy, my dates are out by about 3 days but it's all good.

Good lucknto everyone else having scans today Smile

Tigsy · 07/04/2014 09:53

studyfulltime amazing news! Hope that you feel reassured now.

I agree with Miskate. Women tend to announce at 12 weeks, but that is just because when the scan generally is/tends to be. You can have your dating scan anytime from 10 weeks, so if you have it then and all is ok, then you should be ok telling. Obviously nothing is ever a guarantee, but at that point, if all looks as it should, the odds are massively in your favour and don't tend to change much between 10-12 weeks.
