WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

28 week appointment and bloods including the modified gtt that they do ok everyone this morning. Was feeling ok about it but have awakened with a horrid sore throat ( which usually means a cold is on the way) and can't take any strepsils as I am fasting until the blood test. Gah :(

Bornin1984 · 11/03/2014 08:14

Ohhhhhh!!! One of my leaky boobies has changed colour from clear to yellow! Does that mean it's more chlostrum like business now? X

moobaloo · 11/03/2014 09:27

Ooh lots of new people! Welcome one and all!

Nothing to report here but glad everyone seems fairly positive and in marginally less pain!

MrsFooCough · 11/03/2014 09:32

Clearly I'm literally sat at my GTT now! They took my 28wk bloods with the first blood draw about 30mins ago, so I'll get the results back in a week or so maybe. I s'pose when I see the midwife next rather depends on results of GTT Confused, so I might not see them for ages!

The phleb was REALLY good, bless her. I barely felt the new vacutainers being attached Smile also the finger prick was nothing! Dunno what my type 2 diabetic dad was complaining about Wink of course he has to do it lots and lots though, poor thing.

My fasting glucose was 7.2, but apparently that's high-ish but within the normal range for this test. Still a bit concerned that my fasting glucose was so high!

Oh and my Hb levels were 147 at booking so I think I'm quite ok, for now at least. Haven't been feeling drained of energy for any reason other than the hip pain/heavy feeling of Giant Monster Baby Bump Hmm so hopefully not anaemic ~crosses fingers~

Spirael · 11/03/2014 09:39

Sounds like it could be, Bornin1984! Just started having leaky nipple issues here, though not enough to warrant any special protective measures yet and only on one side. Hmm But then I'm slightly lopsided anyway, and last time the bigger was always the alpha boob in terms of milk production. Expecting the same again.

Had my MW appointment yesterday. All is good, my iron levels are fine (WOO! No iron tablets!!! Thank you Spatone. :)), my measurements are spot on and she's now signed me over to the homebirth team who are apparently going to be in touch to conduct a home visit. That's a new one - they just arrived on the day last time around!

Not so good with the PGP issues. Was given a leaflet to attend an educational weekday evening at a different hospital to my usual one that is miles away and in the middle of no-where. The sessions only run twice per month, they're at a particularly awkward time in the evening and DH/DC are not allowed to attend.

Given that we only have one car that DH needs, and we need to juggle collecting DD1 from nursery/making dinner/putting her to bed at that time, there is no way I can make any of the sessions! Guess I'll just be living with it for the next few months.

However I need to make an appointment with the GP anyway, as apparently they can prescribe some stronger painkillers to keep at home in anticipation of stitches or afterbirth pains. So maybe I can persuade them to give me a direct referral...

Got a lecture from the MW about the Whooping Cough vaccine. Still in two minds over whether or not to have it. If I am, I think I'll wait until I've finished work after 34 weeks, so I can rest for the days afterwards! Also should mean LO is pretty much fully developed by then, so should suffer minimal side effects.

CurlsLDN · 11/03/2014 09:41

Morning everyone, I'm just in a taxi on my way to the hospital to get checked out. I've had bad period type pains all of yesterday and this morning. I called the midwife when I got to work and they asked me to go and get checked out. I'm sure I'll be wasting their time! I feel a bit silly, but then I can't deny the pain.
I'm 31+6 and crossing my legs!

ClearlyMoo · 11/03/2014 09:53

Oh no Curls! Please update us!

Spirael obviously down to personal choice but the WC vaccine is recommended between 28&32 weeks as I understand it takes a bit of time for you to develop antibodies and pass them to baby so they want to ensure that's happened by 36 weeks. You can have it later but they can't be sure it'll be effective before birth. Nurse giving injection was very clear about number of new borns that have died recently before they had their 8 week jabs. I only had a sore arm (also had a fever but late turned out it was a UTI) for 2/3 days and I could still drive/cook and write and use PC!

MrsFC 14.7 is really good! They wouldn't have tested between booking and 28 weeks anyway. I'd be surprised if you've fallen below 11!

NannyPlumForPM · 11/03/2014 10:19

Oh no curls hope everything's ok! Maybe a uti or something? Well I'm a Cheltenham widow for the next week. :( if the baby comes there's no way dh will be at my side haha!

Had a late night trip to out of hours gp as dd (3) was sick and had a huuuuuge fever and sleepy and rashy etc - turns out was an upper respiratory tract infection so nothing serious! But all you first timers have this to look forward to Grin

First day of gtt stabbings- my before breakfast level was 5.4- needs to be under 5.3.... Anyone know if it's because am eating too late or something??

Am in worcester btw and 32+2!

moomin35 · 11/03/2014 10:32

can i join? 28+3 today :-)

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 11/03/2014 10:34

Good luck curls, keep us updated!

Still racking my brains trying to think what this appointment is going to be. At the moment I have three ideas -

  1. Neurology, but they tend to send letters out rather than last-minute phone ups. And she'd probably have told me it was for neurology over the phone, wouldn't she?
  2. Another GTT due to glucose in wee, but I haven't been told to fast, and they usually do them at the antenatal clinic.
  3. My iron levels, but they told me I had two weeks to get my levels up!

Aside from that I'm clueless. I think neurology is most likely. I just don't understand why she wouldn't tell me what it was about. I'm really nervous Sad

33+1

randdom · 11/03/2014 10:44

Well that wasn't the most successful trip to the midwife (different one to usual) I have ever had. Couldn't get my bloods so have to go and get them done at the hospital on Thursday so more lucozade :( couldn't take my blood pressure so I need to get that done today at work ...

However I am measuring for dates and heartbeat is fine so that is something.

Bornin1984 · 11/03/2014 11:21

Beenc"summoned " to the midwife today......great Sad

NestingNesting123 · 11/03/2014 11:29

Hello, another newbie checking in! I'm in Glasgow, been married for 2 years and 28+5 with my first DC, due 29th May. Not sure whether to feel excited or terrified!

I'm glad I read this thread because I didn't realise the whooping cough vaccine had to be given so soon. I don't have another midwife appointment until I am bang on 32 weeks so will have to ask for it then. MrsFooCough my iron levels haven't been checked since my booking appointment either, so maybe it varies between hospitals.

CurlsLDN · 11/03/2014 11:52

nesting you can make an appointment with the nurse at your gp and have it done, that's what my midwife told me to do.

Thanks for your concern everyone, I got here and gave a urine sample, and it was bright red! They monitored baby for half an hour and he's fine, so looks like a urine infection. I'm just waiting for a dr to decide whether I have to stay In or not. I really hope not as I have my first antenatal class tonight!

loopylou52 · 11/03/2014 11:55

Welcome nesting! Re whooping cough, I had to book this with my gp surgery (I.e. not via the mw) so could be worth checking with them rather than waiting?

Bornin - any idea why the mw wants to see you, or are you another one with a mystery appointment today?

My pgp has been pretty bad the last few days but been to physio this morning and working at home the rest of the week so hopefully things will ease up again. Can't remember who said about a zimmer frame - last night I was thinking I could really have done with one of those!

loopylou52 · 11/03/2014 11:56

Cross-posts curls. Blimey, that must have bee scary to see. Fingers crossed they let you home soon and you make a speedy recovery.

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 11/03/2014 11:59

Good luck Bornin hope everything is ok!

Welcome nesting :)

I had my whooping cough vaccine last Friday at 32+4 so I wouldn't worry too much about waiting till 32 weeks.

TMI alert but I feel rough today!!! Iron tablets and cocodamol are taking their toll so I'd been knocking back the lactulose like it's no-one's business and wondering why it wasn't working. Today it's kicked in and I've got this appointment in 2 hours but I'm scared of being far away from the toilet!!! Shock

Went out and saw a load of my friends last night, it was great and none of them can believe how soon it is. Everyone was commenting on how 'tidy' my bump is! I didn't think it was particularly tidy to be honest...

NestingNesting123 · 11/03/2014 11:59

Thank you, I never thought of going to the GP. I only live 2 doors from the surgery so that would be an easier option.

Fingers crossed you get out Curls, though they might let you go to the ante natal class anyway if it's in the same hospital?

impatientlywaiting · 11/03/2014 12:03

Hope all is well Curls.

Nesting in my area the midwives can't give whooping couch vaccines it has to be the practice nurse, nit sure if that's the same all over, but if you are worrying about getting it done in ime you could give your GP practice a call.

Spirael know people have their own views on vaccinations, but in terms of side effects I was absolutely fine. No worse than any other injections going in, and then I totally forgot about it. Only time I was reminded was when I put any pressure on my arm and it felt like it was a bit bruised. But overall absolutely fine.

ClearlyMoo · 11/03/2014 12:08

Spirael and Nesting. I stand corrected. Although nurse said 28-32 to me the NHS website says up to 38, so everyone can calm down. I was passing on wrong info! Sorry!

Curls ummm red wee is scary. I had UTI and mine was orange which wasn't very clever! All gone now tho! Drinking cranberry juice 3 x day just in case it works to keep UTI away. Still have thrush from stoopid antibios tho grrrr!

It was me that said about Zimmer frame! Not reached that stage yet but can see advantages!!

My diabetic blood sugars are a bit off so I need a chat with the diabetes ppl and a insulin adjustment!

Hezbean · 11/03/2014 12:38

Hi everyone

Checking in rather belatedly on the lovely new thread! Page 5 already, we are a chatty and welcoming bunch!

My update - due 17th May so 30 + 3 today and feeling good. I'm 37 and live in London with DH (married 18 months, together nearly 4 years), it's our first baby and we're having a surprise!

Everything's been going OK so far. We have bought some clothes and a new car, and we've ordered the pram, but have still got quite a bit to sort - sheets, blankets, bedding, sling, breast pump (planning to BF but a friend advised me that having a breastpump handy from the early days could be really useful). Haven't thought about my hospital bag yet either! We've just started NCT locally and we're doing a hypnobirthing course over the next couple of weeks.

On the whooping cough jab - I'm having mine at my 31 week appointment which is at the GPs, next week.

Sorry to hear of those having problems. And welcome all the newbies! We're on a proper countdown now, can't believe how quickly these last few weeks are going.....!!!

dobedobedo · 11/03/2014 13:32

I'm going to get my whooping cough jab when I'm 36 weeks and have finished work. Purely because I can already hardly cope with working such long hours and having pgp, I don't want to have to cope with flu like symptoms too!

I've noticed my temper has been quite short of late. Last night DH was laughing at me because I was in a rant about soemthing or other, and then I said he was too warm and I could imagine kicking him in his face, and the next breath I told him I loved him. Blush

I just feel permanently grumpy, with zero tolerance for anything that annoys me. And everything annoys me lately.

I guess this is the pregnancy rage you see talked about on MN a lot!

nickyboo · 11/03/2014 13:50

Hi everyone

Can i join in ? I have been lurking for ages, but after 2MMC in the past year was completely paranoid about joining in the early days in case things went wrong again. Finally now accepting that this might hopefully happen...

I am 40 years old (nearly 41!), married for 7 years and expecting DC2 on 22nd of May (team yellow). I already have a 4 year old DS. Will be having an ELCS this time at around 39 weeks following ongoing incontinence issues (sorry if TMI) after a Kiellands forceps delivery with DS.

Things going okay- work full time in the City (London) and starting to get a bit tired. Finishing work at Easter time, so will be starting my countdown soon.. Not organised at all- need to go through what we have kept from DS up in attic and see what state it is in- can't remember at all..

Hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to catching up in the coming weeks as we all get closer to meeting our little bundles.

xx

CurlsLDN · 11/03/2014 13:55

I'm on my way home, thank goodness!

After lots of tests they've concluded it is just a particularly mean UTI, so a few days off work and some antibiotics and I should be feeling much better. Gave DH a scare though!
