WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

Welcome nickyboo - make yourself at home!

curls glad to hear you're on your way home - just take it easy for a couple of days!

I've just really realised that next month begins the "drop zone" for us! (I forget who from here coined that phrase now but I love it) I'll be 37 weeks on 18th April! Bloody hell! Shock

ClearlyMoo · 11/03/2014 14:58

GrinGrin Drop zone is MY phraseGrinGrin but you're ALL allowed to use it! In fact I think the NHS should get rid of this due date business as only 3% babies are born on their due date whereas it just be approaching 80/90% born in the 37-42 week drop zone!

mrsFoo - 147 is a BRILLIANT iron level. Mine was 114 at booking in, and had dropped to 99 at the 28 week check. Like others have said, I would be very surprised if you have dropped below 110. Changing the sbuject, I have ordered some shorts and nursing camis, but also have a nursing nightie. I am naively hoping that big pants plus maternity pads will cope with the blood loss.... Grin

All this talk about whooping cough reminds me that I must remember to text my midwife to ask about sorting mine out.

I've come to a fairly big decision today - I am deferring the rest of this year's univeristy module until next year. I get to bank the assignments I have done so far, and can pick up at this point next year. I don't have to pay anything extra and it doesn't have any negative impact on my degree. I have an assignment due on the 20th of this March and a min-dissertation due on the 8th May, with the exam on the 5th June. With everything else that is going on (Dad had a small stroke/TIA on Thursday, so have been coming to terms with that and supporting my parents), I just feel that I can't do the course justice and will be better off deferring. Feel so relieved now the decision is made!

I am now going to go and goo over baby clothes online, without feeling guilty about the study I am not doing!

Another lurker here, encouraged to finally post because of the warm welcome, Clearly!

Expecting DC2 due 5th of May (32+1). 33 years old.

Hoping for a VBAC this time, had a pretty traumatic time with DS (now 2,5). He wasn't growing well in pregnancy, was below 5th centile from 25weeks onwards and I was induced early because of this at 37weeks. He was not coping with labour, had EMCS. After birth we found out he had a rare condition which meant he had to have surgery the next day so first 6 months was in and out of hospital. (Doing fantastically well now!)
All this has meant I've been nervous in this pregnancy but so far so good! I have lots of growth scans because of DS being small but so far it's a 50centiler... next scan is on Monday.
Samba and Curls try not to worry too much about the growth, it really can be just that they babies are on the small side and nothing wrong with that! My boy was only 2006g at full term and I was worried beforehand that he would feel scrawny or "foetusy" (does this make sense??) but he was not, so so perfect! Me and DH kept saying "He's not THAT small!" :)

Also, NannyPlum, my boy also had talipes when he was born, his right foot. We didn't find this out til after birth so it was a surprise. Try not to worry. He's had the ponsetti treatment with plaster, then boots+bar. All has gone smoothly and you can not tell AT ALL by the way he walks or runs. The feet are becoming almost the same size now, too. He still wears boots+bar at night and is completely used to it.
Nestingnesting I agree that they seem very lax about the whooping cough jab in Glasgow. No one mentioned it to me, I actually found out from this thread. Had it at my GP a couple of weeks ago.

Hope everyone is enjoying a bit of sun today!

ClearlyMoo · 11/03/2014 15:26

Awhhh! Welcome MOAS! Lovely to hear from lots of newbies (ex-lurkers etc). Pleased to get you to join us. The more the merrier! We ARE chatty tho!

kally - sorry to hear about your Dad's stroke. Sounds like your decision was the right one re uni - there's only so much you can deal with at once!

clearly you obviously did a great job of encouraging all the newbies/ex-lurkers with the new thread! Welcome to all! I used to lurk on the conception boards and never posted either until joining this group.

I'm loving 'drop zone'. I'm scared of counting down to the start of it though because the day I turn 37 weeks is the day after my friend's wedding when we'll be driving the 3 hour journey home from Shropshire. Confused

NannyPlumForPM · 11/03/2014 15:54

Ooooh yes hello newby loobys :)

Thanks MOAS - I reckon we'll be in for the ponsetti treatment too! What will be will be :)

How's the mystery appointment going moomin

LongTailedTit · 11/03/2014 15:56

Thanks for the b2b tip Clearly - that is exactly how I always sit on our sofa, damn!!! Will have to banish myself from the chaise end.
And on the iron front, I've got soft prunes in the fridge and a big bottle of prune juice on the go already - I am thoroughly prepared! Good job I like prunes tho...

Welcome lovely lurkers! :)

Hezbean · 11/03/2014 16:05

Love the phrase 'Drop Zone'. I imagine a parachute every time someone says it. With a due date of 17th, I'm just guessing baby will arrive sometime in May. Hopefully not til nearer the middle of the month though or I'll still be at work. And there's a gig I really want to go to on the 13th! :-)

curls hope you're feeling better soon.
kally - definitely sounds like the right decision. Hope your Dad is doing OK.

Welcome moas!

wm3010 · 11/03/2014 16:16

Hi all, lovely to see so many new people on the thread! Just back from 31 week check and all is well although the midwife is making warning comments about my weight again. I am still within the normal range, but nearing the top end so she started going on about making sure I wasn't eating anything "extra". It really annoys me that on top of all the rest of thes stresses and niggling problems of pregnancy, they go on about this so much too. I know they mean well but surely top end of normal is still normal so what's the point of stressing me out with it?! I am eating more but trying to be sensible so don't think I can do much apart from that.

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 11/03/2014 16:42

Ahh bloody hell just looked at the calendar, my 'drop zone' (love it!) starts 7th April!!! Eeek!!! Shock

kally hope your dad is ok.

Welcome moas and nicky and anyone I've missed!

wm top end of normal is still normal!! I wouldn't worry too much. then again I have just eaten three quarters of a melon in 24 hours so I'm not the best advocate of not eating extra

Mystery Appointment was neurology! They wanted me seen as an emergency so saw me at my hospital rather than sending me to the Walton. Might have to have brain scans done, they'll let me know Thursday or Friday apparently.

It's such a beautiful day and I'm desperate to get out in the sunshine but OH has work at 6 and all I want to do is swim or sit in a beer garden but my feet are too swollen to walk that far Sad

sambababy · 11/03/2014 16:59

Thanks moas Smile I wasn't worried when I was first told but the closer the scan gets the more I'm just hoping they say everything is ok. I desperately don't want to be induced. I'm 5'9 and weighed 8lb3 at birth, DH is 6'4 so I understand when they say it's not logical for us to have a small baby, but small and healthy I am happy with!

I think we have two moomins on this thread now! Any relation? Wink

kally I'm sorry to hear about your dad Thanks

wm3010 · 11/03/2014 17:03

Oh Moomin, that sounds a bit scary, hope you are ok?

Sorry to be a moan, it just feels like you can never relax with pregnancy, there is always something which you/your body aren't doing right! I am trying not to stress but not prepared to go hungry either - PS melon doesn't even count as food really, there are hardly any calories!

MrsFooCough · 11/03/2014 17:52

I agree with wm, moom - melon is totally empty calorie-wise. I know this because of my learnings ~wise face~ so you can totally pig out on it. I did that with two M&S fruit salad things at the weekend ~innocent face~ in my defence one of them had pomegranate seeds in, they're like crack to me Blush

I'm glad my iron levels were so good! I thought 14.7/147 was quite nice and high, they helpfully print the reference ranges next to your readings on our blood forms so that's reassuring!
Apparently my GTT results may come in as soon as tonight, but more likely tomorrow, I'm thinking there might be a mild positive Confused dunno why but I just do!

loopylou52 · 11/03/2014 18:10

I agree melon doesn't count as excessive food. I ate a whole pack of M&S chocolate raisons yesterday and even managed to justify that to myself as fruit! Blush Grin

Minions · 11/03/2014 18:39

Hello and special hi to newbies & lurkers :) We're a merry crowd now, it's fab!

Can't remember who posted what but here's my contribution. I got whooping cough jab at 28 weeks by nurse at gp surgery. Absolutely no side effects at all other than mildly sore arm.

Routine midwife appt today went well. I got my blood results, which was taken 4 weeks ago. Iron levels, platelets & antibodies all Normal - had there been issues they would have called so wasn't expecting bad news today.

I saw physio in 1st trimester die to sore hips, she put it down to PGP. It's been mild though compared to you lot, I'm lucky. That said hips still sore & weight of baby is heavy on my pelvis. And back getting sore now. Anyone recommend any exercises?

33weeks today, drop zone fast approaching!

Ps - to the mama to be who has postponed uni - that sounds like a great option. Couldn't have been an easy decision so well done on making it (I feel relieved for you!). Sorry to hear about your dad, hope he's ok & recovers well.

Chip86 · 11/03/2014 19:05

Chip86 · 11/03/2014 19:54

Thanks LTT feet up and waiting for DH to bring food home Grin

Bornin1984 · 11/03/2014 20:01

Had ante natal implusive appt to say! Blood pressure is low for me compared to booking and history of raised blood pressure. Also diabetes becoming a bit unstable which is expected in Third trimester, but they think now I have to attend for weekly apps as blood sugars are likely to continue to go off as baby grows!!

Diabetes in pregnancy is shite!!!!

LongTailedTit · 11/03/2014 20:02

Who the hell bitches to a pregnant woman about what she's wearing??! What a pile of prats. So rude, so unnecessary. Angry
A plague upon their houses. :)

AppleCrumble1 · 11/03/2014 20:05

Hello "waves"
Wow this thread moves fast! I'm due on 19 May with DC01 and am in camp "yellow" I'm 37 & in denial that I'll be 38 by the time baby is born. I've been married nearly 4 years & live in East London. We've ordered the pram but nothing else sorted yet! Eeek!

Just back from a tour of the labour / midwife led unit at the hospital... Am low risk at mo with SPD for which I'm having physio. Hoping for the MW led unit though one of the 2 pools is broken. We shall see!

Welcome to newbies & hi to all Smile

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 11/03/2014 20:30

I am very very hormonal today Shock didn't realise it until a few minutes ago... this girl that was flirting with OH back when he started at uni, the one who asked him to spend the day at her house and acted like his girlfriend whenever they were together (on the same course), liked a status he put on Facebook within seconds of him uploading it, and I got so angry and protective, I very nearly put a comment Shock I need to step away from facebook, it brings out my very unreasonably angry side Grin

I don't think it helps that I'm trying really hard not to worry about these scans they're sending me for... she said it could be as soon as next week, they want to do it as a matter of urgency Hmm just fed up of being prodded and poked now, midwife appts etc I can take but next week I have consultant on the 18th, midwife on the 20th and gastroenterology on the 22nd Sad

Chip86 · 11/03/2014 20:47

Oh moomin poor you but im sure it will be all fine and i know it will be all worth it in the end

hehehe LTT that made me laugh i needed that today Smile
just explained to DH what pre-eclampsia is and he has gone very quite on my, think i have worried him Sad one good thing is i now have my bag for me so just need to pack it then we are all ready incase she comes early
