WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

Thanks for the new thread clearly!

I'm 30 from surrey but been living in Brazil for nearly 2 years (DH is Brazilian but we met in UK 10 yrs ago).

31+2 with DC1, team yellow, due May 9th (snap dobe!) but in true Brazilian fashion I suspect they will make a rather late appearance. Fellow spd sufferer. Loving being pregnant though! And loving the great advice/support/updates from you lot Smile

sambababy · 09/03/2014 23:07

ps clearly I am definitely going to borrow that phrase 'drop zone' Grin

PotatoPolly · 09/03/2014 23:19

thank you for the new thread clearly

DS1 due 18th May (30 weeks today!)

I'm 24 & from sunny Essex Grin

impatientlywaiting · 09/03/2014 23:21

Hi all,

I'm expecting my first, a little boy, 32+4 due 30th April.

Flipping between feeling like I've got loads of time to sort things, and hideously unprepared.

Cot still in pieces, no idea what to go in hospital bag, nursery still looks like junk room and can not decide on a baby name or even short list.

LongTailedTit · 10/03/2014 00:01

Excellent work on the new thread Clearly, thanks! Lovely to read all these intros too as I lose track of who's who quite easily. Blush

I'm expecting DS2 on the 3rd May, DS1 will be 3yo on the 5th, so they may end up birthday twins!
DS1 was 4wks early, so I'll be ready to go from the end of March just in case.
Mostly ready in terms of essentials bought or reclaimed from family, but it's all in a heap and needs sorting through, clothes to be size sorted etc.

I'm a 35yo for another fortnight SAHM, been with DH 11 years, coming up to our 4th wedding anniversary on May Day - a busy month in our house! :)
PGP not too bad at the mo, heartburn/vomming under control(ish), and currently under consultant care due to previous early baby, but if I get past 37wks I can go back to the midwives, yay!

32+1

Vikks · 10/03/2014 00:32

Hi All.
A second timer here. Ds is 3 and his little sister is due 16th May. 30+3 and am so excited to meet our little kick boxer.
I'm 36 from Yorkshire and currently planning my wedding as well as preparing to be a family of four. Grin
Nursery is done (pink wall to wall Blush I couldn't help it), bags still to be packed, two weeks left at work and starting hypnobirthing classes soon. X

Vikks · 10/03/2014 00:38

Does anyone know what the advice is for coming in contact with someone with chicken pox/ shingles?
My mum has shingles, she thinks I need to stay away. I've had chicken pox as a child so I think I should be immune?

ClearlyMoo · 10/03/2014 03:54

Vikks I am not a medical peep but seems NHS website quite good on Shingles here

It says:

"If you have shingles, avoid:
women who are pregnant and have not had chickenpox before, as they could catch chickenpox from you, which may harm their unborn baby"

So if you're confident of your immunity to Chicken Pox it appears it should be ok... I do know the odd person that had "light CP" as a child and claimed to get it again later in life.. Not sure if there's any medical evidence for that! I read about Shingles loads before our wedding as three separate guests had it in the weeks before and I was freaking out!

I'm 33, currently in Oz and expecting DC2 (team yellow!) on 21 May.

Which means 29+5 now, so I should probably start to think about getting a few bits and pieces ready... Having just moved house at the end of January, this baby's room is a bit of a dumping ground, so probably need to spend a weekend sorting things out and getting organised.

At the moment DS is still in the cot bed (have ordered a new bed for him, but it's an 8-10 week delivery period as the one we ordered is handmade) so baby will be in the carry-cot attachment off the pram.

First pregnancy physio class coming up at the birthing cente next week, which will probably come in handy as I'm definitely less comfortable at my desk at the moment. And I (foolishly?) committed to working until I'm 39 weeks. Eeek.

mrsmummytobe · 10/03/2014 05:51

Thanks for the lovely new thread, clearly.

I'm 30, been married for about a year and a half (although we've been together for about 7 years) & very excited to be expecting dc1! We are team pink & she is due 11th may so I'm 31+1 now.

We've got just about everything for the baby now. Hospital bag is planned but not actually packed yet.

Brew & Cake to all the other lovely ladies on this thread! Love hearing all the pregnancy stories.

Vikks · 10/03/2014 07:11

Thank you Clearly I've read all that. I'm glad it's ok I don't think I'd do so well without my mum at the moment, she been a rock. Smile
Hope everyone has pain/hassle free days. X

loopylou52 · 10/03/2014 07:16

Vikks - exactly what clearly said re the shingles/chicken pox (I had shingles around the time we conceived so had a bit of a panic!). If you're certain you've had CP then you should be fine but, as some people do claim to have got it more than once, it may be best to err on the side of caution. Also, you can only catch it from contact with the Shingles rash itself (I.e. it's not airborne etc) so if your mum's rash is well covered (e.g. if it's under clothes) then it should also be fine (my rash was on my neck so I couldn't cover it up and ended up stuck at home for two weeks!). Hope she's better soon - it's rubbish!

Tomkat79 · 10/03/2014 07:54

sarahjinx where in norfolk are you? I'm the city :-)

PixieBumbles · 10/03/2014 08:03

Hello everyone! I'm 30, been with my husband for nearly 6 years, married for 3. Currently 32+2 with our first child, a boy due on 3rd May. We've got almost everything we need, it jyst needs sorting out and putting away. I'm hoping to have a homebirth but only made the decision last week so am currently waiting for my referral to the local homebirth team to come through. Another SPD sufferer but luckily I seem to have it under control, it's not getting any worse and I'm still managing ok as long as I don't overdo things. I feel very fortunate!

Less than 4 weeks left at work Grin

Minions · 10/03/2014 08:46

Thanks clearly for new thread :) Welcome to all those new & returning

First time for me too. Team yellow, looking forward to our surprise due 29th April (I'm on this thread as I'm assuming a late delivery!). Slowly getting sorted but got priorities backwards, nursery ready but hospital bags not packed. Ordering crib today and hoping it arrives on time.

Health wise I've been good, sore hips that wake me during the night since first trimester but that's my only complaint so I'm thankful.

Day off today to practise for mat leave, three weeks to go - woohoo!

Truffkin · 10/03/2014 09:22

Good morning everyone!

I was on this thread early on but tailed off (couldn't really keep up and had nothing eventful to add!) so thought I would give it another go now we're heading into the home straight.

I'm 35 and expecting DC 2 on 4th May so 32+1 today. DS is 2 and a bit, I've been with DH for 10 years and married for 7 this year.

I'm hoping for a home birth so no bag packing at the moment and have nothing to buy so have done literally no preparation. Poor neglected baby Grin We will replace the moses basket mattress but think that's all we need as we have everything still from DS. Will also need to get the newborn clothes down from the loft and wash them, but will wait until nearer to the time. DS was a week late, so am assuming this one will be late and working until 39 weeks.

Looking forward to catching up.

BlanketSky · 10/03/2014 09:23

How have I missed an entire thread?!?

32 weeks today, ELCS in 7 weeks..... due to awful first birth with DS who is 3. This one is apparently a girl and is DC3 (DS2 was TFMR as he had anencephaly). Assuming all goes well and she arrrives safely she will complete our family.

PGP here but I finish work on Friday Grin so I might manage to post a bit more :)

Spirael · 10/03/2014 09:33

I'm here! Thanks for the new thread, ClearlyMoo. Very nicely done, I'm impressed. Wink

I'm (just) 32 YO, married for 8.5 years to my lovely DH (also 32 YO). We already have a gorgeous DD1 (3.5 YO) and are now expecting DD2 on 30th May, so I'm currently lagging behind most at 28 weeks.

However, no-one in my recent/close family has gone over their due date and DD1 arrived at 37 weeks - we appear to run with shorter cooking times! Due to that, I'm finishing work at 34 weeks. Just under 6 weeks to go until then; not that I'm counting down or anything...

Had a water homebirth last time and I'm hoping for the same again. Probably just as well, given that last time labour and birth were an intense 5 hours from start to finish!

We live in (currently) sunny West Yorkshire. Might not be that far from you Vikks, depending on where exactly you're based in the Yorkshire area!

Managed to get loads of stuff done this weekend, so predictably I'm crippled again today. I really should learn. On the plus side, I have my first MW appointment of the year this afternoon and I'm hoping if I bleat pathetically enough she might arrange me some physio.

At home we now, finally, have a room that resembles a nursery. Tastefully painted in green with a tropical jungle theme. Assembled the cot in there (we have a moses basket in our room for the first few months) and picked up a comfy chair for nursing in over the weekend that I won cheaply on eBay.

Washed all the baby clothes and had them drying on the line yesterday. :) Currently working through doing the same for all the bedding/blankets/muslins/etc. Washing machine is on overtime this week.

Hospital bag is in progress... Currently got nappies, baby clothes, hats, breast pads, arnica and tea tree oil in there. Still need to acquire/find/wash everything else.

My tip of the day: If people haven't considered early/overnight nursing bras yet, I can recommend these. They do a normal and a plus version for ladies who don't require the double plus. Blush I found them excellent for the first few days before my milk came in and I knew what size nursing bras to get. After that, they're comfy to wear overnight for support, and they keep breast pads in place to stop you from ending up sleeping in a milky puddle!

Bornin1984 · 10/03/2014 09:39

Who said nesting was good for u!! Scrubbed my kitchen and my back is now seriously screwed!!!!!

kally195 · 10/03/2014 09:40

Morning everyone! Thanks for the lovely new thread Clearly

I'm Kally, I'm 30+2 with our first - a little girl. I'm 31, on the Kent coast and married for 5 years to my fab OH. Due 17th May!

We've got the nursery more or less sorted - still need to get a big chest of drawers and a car seat base. I have bought a few bits of clothes but am going to hold off getting any more till nearer the time.

Just about to start buying stuff for the hospital bag. Am I daft for wanting to go with a nursing vest and shorts (for after the birth) rather than a nightie?

Health wise all is OK with both of us. I was put on iron tablets (need to get my levels back up over 11 to use the MLU) last week and am feeling better already - I'm not getting out of breath walking up to the top of my house!

AliOh · 10/03/2014 11:20

Oooooh shiny new thread - thanks clearly !

31+ 3 today with our first, a boy!

Nursery not ready
Hospital bags half-packed
We only have a pram and car seat so far! Blush

Panic stations!!!!!

My nesting instinct has well and truly kicked in too bornin I spent my Sunday scrubbing the bathroom with a toothbrush!

Very much looking forward to a week off work starting tomorrow - and then only 4 weeks left when I get back Shock

mrsmummytobe · 10/03/2014 11:22

Lovely to read everyone's stories.

kally I was thinking the same thing - I never wear nighties & would feel more comfortable with a nursing vest & shorts.

I've just had my 31 week appointment. Does anyone else find those pots absolutely impossible to wee in accurately?!! Probably TMI but the one they gave me had a really narrow rim & I could not see where I was meant to be aiming at all as bump was in the way! Ugh not a great experience! On the positive side, baby is doing very well & she is head down, which is good.

AliOh · 10/03/2014 11:32

mrsmummy i thought exactly the same, if anyone would of seen me in the toilet cubicle in the drs I imagine it would of been quite hilarious! Bump is now making the simplest of things impossible (including putting on my socks!).

MrsFooCough · 10/03/2014 11:39

Coo look at everyone posting their vital statistics Smile this month I predict we'll get a lot of people popping their heads round the door as they're into their maternity leave, wheee!

Welcome newcomers!
We're chatty, mental and occasionally (mostly me I think...) a bit TMI!! Blush

After my physio this morning I have NEWS:
It's not PGP or SPD, just an existing sacroiliac problem that's got worse because of Bean. Sigh. I thought as much. So the only thing they can do is say "Get a sacroiliac support belt, wear it under your bump, keep your knees together and try not to turn your hips at all, good luck and we'll see you in a few weeks. Oh and we can't actually treat you until the baby's born."
Well that's useful Confused oh and they're not actually allowed to hand out support belts, maternity ones or any other kind of ones, we have to pay for them ourselves. Out-fricking-rageous! We get free prescriptions, but they can't prescribe a support belt. THANKS NHS. Grrr...

Also, got my Glucose Tolerance Test tomorrow and my 28wk bloods at the same time. I should search for my notes really, but a) I think my mother probably helpfully tidied them away and b) she'll be better at looking for them than I will what with not being able to bend/crouch and all that!

28+2 today xxx

MrsFooCough · 10/03/2014 11:41

Oh kally and mrsmummy might the shorts be a bit, well, ruined? What with all the postpartum bleeding? I'm planning to take nothing that I won't miss if it ends up looking like evidence in a slasher killing haha. Ahem. I did say TMI Grin
