WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

Arrggh welcome to newbies and how lovely to re get to know y'all oldies again. Lovely new thread.

loopylou52 · 10/03/2014 18:23

Lovely to be reading everyone's stories again. Welcome to the newbies!

Lovely to get to see the baby again sarah, but sorry to hear about your concerns over delivery. Sorry I don't have anything useful to say on that front!

Good luck for your appointment tomorrow moomin, whatever it turns out to be!

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 10/03/2014 18:26

Thanks loopy - think we need more luck finding the department of the hospital; I've never heard of it before and have no idea which building or entrance we need to go to!

psynl · 10/03/2014 18:27

Hi all
32 + 6 here - due 29th April but will be having c section at 38/39 weeks due to gestational diabetes and previous section.
2nd baby - have a ds who is almost 10!
Most 'stuff' sorted - just a few bits to get for hospital bag.
Start maternity leave in 4 days and cannot wait!

CurlsLDN · 10/03/2014 18:44

Hello everyone!

I'm 28, live in London, I'm 31+5 with DS1- due 7th May (same as bornin I think!)

He is a honeymoon baby, very very welcome though we didn't expect it to happen so quickly as I have PCOS.

Baby is a tiny nipper, so I'm having extra growth scans. At the last he was 10th centile. I have another this Thurs so hopefully he'll have stayed on the same line or got bigger, otherwise he could be making an early appearance!

Nursery done and bag packed, just buggy and coarsest left to order when I go on holiday/maternity leave week after next. For those looking for a chest of drawers, have you considered the Ikea Hemnes? It's the perfect height to use as a changing table, and you can get little fabric drawer dividers to help organise all the teeny tiny clothes. Have a look at some inspiration of it in other nurseries here...

Welcome lots of lovely newbies and returning peeps! Lovely to read everyone's bios.

Just been for swim day 3/3. I'm still in pain but feeling more mobile by the day even though I tire easily. Have 14 days of work left finishing 03/04. Have so much to do and worked out have 105hrs of working time to do it all in! I am now WFH 2 days, driving (1.5hr each way) 2 days and day off each week. Reading that some of you finish soon is making me wonder if I've done the right thing keeping going til 35 weeks but then it's only 2 days/week driving. When I'm WFH I start early (DH gets up at 6am) and work til late with breaks for meals with DH/naps and appointments. Seems to work well for me so trying to convince self I can cope with 14 more days (7 commutes max)!

SarahJinx can't believe you could see hair on scan - that's amazeballs

Moomin hope random appointment goes well tomorrow!

Hi everyone,
I've been lurking and reading since the beginning! I was waiting until the 12 week scan after a miscarriage last summer but then I never got around to joining/posting!

So, I'm Kate, 29 and living in Brighton with my lovely fiancé- we've been together 13 years in May!

We are team yellow with our first baby, due on 9th May (so 31 + 3).

We've got everything organised- saved loads in the mothercare sale Grin and we have started our nct classes!
It's been mainly plain sailing (other than morning sickness until 20 weeks and heartburn) but I'm starting to get tired now! I've got 19 working days left - am a teacher - and I can't wait to put my feet up!

randdom · 10/03/2014 20:22

wooo! another Brighton person!

BlanketSky · 10/03/2014 20:33

SarahJinx, I'm also in the fens but not so deep and dark- Cambridgeshire Wink Our first births sound pretty similar too, b2b, long, painful, forceps... mine ended up with large tear which is why I am having an elcs this time. Though DS had the indecency to dive down the charts after birth and is only about 30th centile now despite being 97th when he was born. This baby is oblique breech so she is on my side for an elcs :) I have a friend who had very similar with her first also and had a calm and quick waterbirth a few months ago, midwife led. She did hypnobirthing primarily so she could feel calm about the whole thing and reckoned it really helped.

waves to all, will be back tomorrow, likely procrastinating instead of marking coursework and exams ready for a hand over this week x

katekate84 · 10/03/2014 20:38

I thought there was another Brighton person! Where abouts are you randdom? I'm Peacehaven, just along the coast

SarahJinx · 10/03/2014 20:49

blanket I'm intrigued now, we're not far from the Cambs border, I fact we have a Cambs postal address, we might be neighbours!!

I just feel really anxious all of a sudden, am like a cat on a hot tin roof tonight. I had an episiotomy, and I swear to god if anyone tells me c section cut is worse than that, I won't have it, my recovery was horrible, I had pnd and took ages to bond properly because I was so focused on how much pain I was in.

It's not the size that's freaking me, it's the back to back thing, just the memory of the agonising slowness and frustration. I'm not small, dp is 6"2, we just seem to do big babies I guess.

Clearly, it WAS amaze, who knew you could see hair?? and, that hair was the cutest thing, it was really clear too, a whole shock of it. And the baby was really going for it with its thumb too, lovely.

Hi again to all new Maybies, I can only just keep up now, this thread is crazy!

Moomin, hope it all goes well for you.

Rigbyroo · 10/03/2014 21:05

Hi everyone! It's all so exciting. Another south coast resident here, just moved from brighton to worthing. Due 29th May but having c-section at 39 weeks due to previous traumatic birth. Dd very excited, she will be just two when this little one comes along. Having a little boy this time and literally have no names whatsoever. I'm 30 and have been with dp for 11 years after meeting at uni. Feel huge but turns out I've only put on 6lb!! Super wriggly baby, constantly on the move especially at night! 4 more weeks left of work.

sambababy · 10/03/2014 21:16

curls we too have another scan this week to check growth as LO was also in 10th centile. Hope it goes well on thurs!

I am slightly panicked by the proportion of first births described as "traumatic". make that sh*tting myself

Rigbyroo · 10/03/2014 21:20

Kate I'm a teacher too! Do you teach in brighton? Primary or secondary?
I've got nothing ready, bought a few outfits and that's it. Got buggy from dd, going to buy co-sleeper when it comes back into stock and planning on packing bag in next few weeks, need to get zip mended first!

SarahJinx · 10/03/2014 21:34

Sorry Samba, after I posted I did feel like a selfish arse.

I think that for every 'traumatic' birth there must be thirty 'straightforward' ones at least, you only hear about the extremes in any situation I guess. Before my labour,i'd never met anyone who'd had a longer labour than 12 hours, a baby that weighed more than 8lbs, any intervention or anything!!

Dont let it give you the willies, it is what it is and I'd do it again and again to get my DS.

Anyway, sorry xx

sambababy · 10/03/2014 21:46

No sarah please don't apologise! The last thing I want is for people to sugar coat things or keep quiet.

And i wasn't referring specifically to your comment either, but to lots of people on MN and in RL. Of my close friends, half of them ended up with forceps for 1st birth. But then my sister had 2 home births, no problems whatsoever!

Like you said, it is what it is, there's no getting out of it and we just have to get on with it and remember it will be so worth it in the end Smile

Rigbyroo · 10/03/2014 21:51

Sarah have you made any decisions about your birth this time round? Will you go for natural?

Rigbyroo · 10/03/2014 21:54

Samba baby, I wish I had heard some traumatic birth stories when I was pregnant last time! I didn't read mumsnet and everybody told me lovely stories. Don't worry about anything, it's beyond your control and despite the trauma we are doing it again! It is honestly the most amazing thing ever and it didn't go as planned but best day(s) ever! I'm a bit sad that I'm missing labour this time!

SarahJinx · 10/03/2014 21:56

Honestly Rigby I haven't thought about it, again I guess the placenta prevaria thing made me think it might be out of my hands and to get this scan out of the way first.

I still feel like I should try to do it naturally, I just feel a little panicked but then I guess I would have anyway without todays news of huge, naughtily positioned baby!?

I have consultant appointment soon, I'm going to park it until then I think and carry on enjoying my pregnancy.

Rigbyroo · 10/03/2014 22:01

That sounds like a good plan, childbirth is always going to be a scary prospect whatever your circumstances. Glad you are enjoying your pregnancy. Hope scan and consultant goes well.

randdom · 10/03/2014 22:28

Katekate84 am in patcham so in the north of the city :) are you going to go to the Sussex county?

Wings13 · 10/03/2014 22:30

Hi all, can i join also please? Have been reading for weeks but haven't had the nerve to post till now.

Due DD2 on May 2. DD1 is 3 so bit of a gap between them. Not organised at all. Have just started to wash clothes but have to get DH up to attic to check out Moses basket etc. cannot remember for the life of me what we actually have up there!

LongTailedTit · 10/03/2014 22:56

Evening all!

I had my 32wk consultant and scan appts today, all ok, all much better in fact! The scan showed TinyTit at 50th centile and approx 4lb10oz, and head down, back to back, with his feet firmly in my ribs... Looks like he'll be bigger than DS, tho that wouldn't be hard!
Definitely going to have to find my birthing ball/start cleaning my skirting boards and try to get him to turn, really don't fancy another back to back labour.
DM and DS were actually allowed in to see the scan which was lovely. She's back off to Norfolk tomorrow - yep, I'm an ex fen-dweller too! tho from the slightly more genteel Suffolk borders Wink

The consultant said my Group B Strep wouldn't prevent me having a water birth (unless I have another preterm labour), and that guidelines have changed recently so I could in fact still have a homebirth if I wanted. My midwife either isn't aware of the change in policy, or she just isn't telling me... Either way, I think I'll prob stick with Hospital as my enthusiasm for homebirth is pretty much gone now.

The consultant tracked down my Hb levels while I was there and yes indeedy they are low, but not too dramatically, so she gave me Ferrous Sulphate tablets and reckons I'll start to feel better after a few days.
I called my midwife about the test results last Weds and she still hasn't got back to me... Hmm

They want to see me again at 36wks, but hopefully that'll be it, and they'll sign me off to the midwives if it get to 37. :)

Nice to meet all you new joiners/lurkers! Brew Cake

MrsFooCough · 11/03/2014 00:14

This talk of Hb levels made me check my notes: they've not checked my iron levels since my booking appt FFS. That's ridiculous right?!

ClearlyMoo · 11/03/2014 04:55

Welcome lots of new people, returnees and ex-lurkers. We're a friendly lot! Can't believe I implied this might be the "final thread" in ante natal we'll have another 3 at this rate. 10% through in just over 24hrs!

Middle of night loo trip for me (my third tonight!!!) ridiculous! However managed to get out of bed without yelping and actually walk rather than crawl to bathroom. Hopefully means I'm continuing to "mend"!

MrsFC did you have bloods taken at 28weeks? It's routine to do them then. They can be written in your notes as "hb" or "iron" and as either 11.5 or 115 (the recently changed it and MW do both) mine say 11.8 at booking and 111 at 28 weeks but the two are comparable just difft units. 11.8/118>11.1/111. Should be over 10.5/105 at 28 weeks but I got prescribed iron anyway as I'm approaching "threshold"!

LongTail happy scrubbing! A friend who had a b2b said that lying on sofa with feet up was WORST thing for her and made baby B2B she's put "the fear" into me. So limit reclining to 1hr or so/day. Lying on your side flat (floor or bed) is better apparently! Ooh and re iron tabs be prepared for the black poo and potential problems in that area = prune Confused juice I'd your friend! Felt loads more energy since I got iron tabs.
