WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

Thanks
Rigbyroo · 27/03/2014 08:20

Hope all well isean, thinking of you.

I'm seriously regretting not letting doctor sign me off until end of term. Doctor did urgent referral form to hospital and I had letter to say appointment would be next week, thing is, it means a morning off work. I've basically been told I must change it and it's unacceptable to even ask for it. Errrr, it's URGENT! I know I don't have to and I know I shouldn't change it but just want to do the last week stress free. I'm going to ring hospital in a bit. I feel like I'm in such a difficult position. I'm also going to email work and politely tell them that I felt I was left no choice regarding the appointment and did not feel this was acceptable. Argh, so atressful! Dp wants me off work so haven't even told him about this, he would be so angry. So much for working in a caring, nurturing environment. True colours are shown when money is involved.

Rigbyroo · 27/03/2014 08:22

How do we join facebook group? X

bushprincess · 27/03/2014 08:33

oh no rigby that sounds like a rubbish situation - you're right legally work should give you time off but I understand you don't want to upset anyone. But hope you get things sorted as best you can.

I'll pm you about facebook group

Rigbyroo · 27/03/2014 08:38

Thanks bushprincess. Just waiting for hospital phone lines to open! Should be in bed! Dp has taken dd to nursery and it's first lie in for aaaaaages but cannot relax!

Bornin1984 · 27/03/2014 08:48

BlanketSky · 27/03/2014 08:57

Hope things are ok isean

bushprincess can you pm me about the group too please?

agree with what someone else said re GD- third trimester is hard enough I am in awe of you all :) I've reached the sleeping semi upright point, I've a hacking cough which isn't helping with the whole lack of comfort with PGP/breech issues anyway! 32 days to go!

Bornin think you asked what ac means?- abdominal circumference according to my notes.

mrsmummytobe · 27/03/2014 08:57

Thinking of you isean Thanks Hope everything is ok.

moobaloo · 27/03/2014 09:18

Hugs Isean hope it's just BH! Keep us updated xxx

Born in, hope you feel better soon, and make your DH bake the cakes!

Saw a friend last night who, among other things said "you really are getting quite a belly now" to which I replied "well yeah! I am seven months pregnant!"

Grr

Bornin1984 · 27/03/2014 09:29

Just been reading the December thread - they around 6 weeks!!! That was us around 28 ish weeks agoShockShockShockShockShock

Squiffie · 27/03/2014 09:50

Hope everything is ok this morning iSean, thinking of you.

Rigby your work are totally out of order, hope you get something sorted.

I'm medication free for another 2 weeks. Consultant said numbers were ok but still wanted to put me on metformin so I asked why - he said because baby is big however the ob is perfectly happy with baby's growth!

Only 4 more shifts at work before mat leave :)

LongTailedTit · 27/03/2014 10:10

Morning all!
Thinking of you Isean

Rigby any chance you can get the doc to sign you off from now? Your work are acting very poorly, not to mention illegally, you'd be fully within your rights to refuse to change your appt. Sorry you're having to deal with work crap.

What do you all think about trips away from home now?
I'm supposed to be going to my mum's next wkend at 36wks, only thing is that she's 3hrs drive away, and last time I had DS at 36+0! Timing wise it'd have to be a short visit, go Sat pm, return Sun pm, so now she's suggesting we go on Easter wkend instead, when I'll be 38wks! Also, I'd have to get the train there which'd take 4hrs door to door, with a toddler... Hmm
I'm mainly worried about DS2 coming fast - a few friends have had really quick 2nd labours, so don't want to be so far from home.
I'm thinking of cancelling the whole visit, but wondering if I'm being a bit over the top?
Thoughts on a postcard? Thanks

randdom · 27/03/2014 10:16

Sorry that so many are having a difficult time :(

My week off is going way to quickly but I am feeling more rested this morning which is good. I rotate jobs next Wednesday (we do four month blocks so I will only do 3ish weeks of the next one before mat leave) and it is stressing me out :(

Spirael · 27/03/2014 10:30

Hope everything is fine, Isean! Sounds like they're not taking any chances, hopefully the care you're receiving is good. :)

Definitely cancel, LongTailedTit! If she's that desperate to see you, tell her to travel to where you are. You'd have to take your hospital bag and notes with you, and can you imagine if things kicked off on route? Contractions or even waters suddenly breaking.

My family and inlaws live a similar distance away (in opposite directions, naturally) and I've told everyone I'm not making any more long journeys now until July. I'm just coming up on 31 weeks, so likely have another 6 weeks before there's any action, but I'm not taking chances of being caught out a long way from home!

Of course this means I have a steady stream of visitors at present... DParents were here last weekend, got the DParentsIL this weekend and DSiL and her family a couple of weeks afterwards! No peace for the wicked. Wink At least I'm lucky that they're all wonderful.

From lunchtime today I only have three more weeks of work! The huge project I've been working on for months doesn't sound like it's going to be deployed before I go, which is good for me and bad for them. It's been ready since January, so they only have themselves to blame for not scheduling properly. It's not like I kept it a secret that I'd be going on maternity leave at Easter!

dobedobedo · 27/03/2014 10:55

rigby sorry to hear you're having such a mare with your work. Try not to let it stress you out (easier said than done, I know!). At least you know that they're legally in the wrong so just stick to your appointment - especially as it's an emergency!

LTT my MIL wants us to go to hers over the Easter weekend when I'll be 37/38 weeks. It's about the same distance away that you're expected to travel. I'd love a break at the seaside, but I'd be too nervous about travelling so far away from home incase the baby comes, so I think we're just going to stay put. Her place is also quite far away from the nearest hospital, which seals the deal for me really. (she tried to tell me that there was a doctor's surgery just five minutes away, but I'm sure they'll be equiped to do an emergency c section if necessary! Hmm

I got bugger all sleep last night and I'm in work now, I could just sleep under the desk! I've been running around like a blue arsed fly all morning!

only 6 and a bit days of work left!

kally195 · 27/03/2014 11:12

LTT - I'd do what others have said and cancel. It's not worth it - especially if it is going to cause you stress worrying about it.

FIL wanted us to come and see them at Easter, as BIL and the kids will be there and we haven't seen them (BIL) since last February. There is only one day we have off while BIL is there, do it would have meant doing a 7 hour motorway return trip in a day, when I am 36 weeks (OH doesn't drive, so it would be all me). OH asked him if he was actually insane, then refused point blank to entertain the idea.

He also swiftly steered the conversation away from any suggestion that they could all come to us :)

Isean hope you are being looked after and everything is OK xx

Squiffie · 27/03/2014 11:19

I'm going to Blackpool for Easter weekend (about 3hrs from home) I'll be 34 weeks Hmm

Bornin1984 · 27/03/2014 11:32

Im having my baby on Easter Tuesday (if he isn't here before)

loopylou52 · 27/03/2014 11:33

I'm going to a wedding which is about 2.5-3 hours away when I'll be 36-37 weeks. We'll be away for two nights. However, my dh will be driving, we'll have a hospital bag in the car in case of emergency and I'm going to check out the local maternity units so we know where we'd need to go if necessary. Also, I'm still low risk and straightforward at the moment and if that were to change before then I know we might have to reconsider. I wouldn't entertain the thought of travelling on my own or by public transport. The only reason I'm planning to do this is because it's one of my best friends, I'm doing a reading, and I'd hate to miss it when the chances are I won't give birth for another 3 weeks or so after. I wouldn't arrange a trip if it wasn't for a special occasion or something IYSWIM.

Rigbyroo · 27/03/2014 12:34

Cancel LTT! For sure!
Thanks for all replies, doctor would definitely sign me off but I really want to do the last week. Cannot get through to hospital to change appointment so think it's going to have to be morning out or not have me in at all!

loopylou52 · 27/03/2014 13:08

Meant to say rigby - your work are being outrageous! V Angry on your behalf. Definitely stick to your guns on this.

Isean · 27/03/2014 13:52

Hi girls! Sorry I haven't had the chance to read through the thread.

I was seen by another doctor at 3am & given dihydrocodeine to help with the headache & hopefully relax my muscles to ease the tightenings. At least that gave me an hour or so's sleep.
I was getting tightenings until about 7.30am & my BP remained high. But thankfully things have eased off.

I saw the consultant & junior doctors this morning. They are pretty sure I am heading for a pre-eclampsia diagnosis & that along with the OC means the 38 week induction plan has gone out the window! They want the baby delivered before 38 weeks. I could go into labour myself at any time now, especially because of the tightenings, or they may need to get baby out depending on how we're both doing. The problem is that baby is still breech & they won't attempt to turn it before 37 weeks due to the risks to me & the baby and that baby could turn back around in labour & they definitely won't allow a vaginal breech birth as the risks to us both again are too big.
I've had the first steroid injection to help baby's lungs & will get the second tomorrow morning. I'm getting scanned this afternoon too.
It's now on a day to day basis so I know its another night in hospital for me, then who knows!
I'm nervous and scared but I know I am in good hands, the staff here have been brilliant and lovely and I feel very reassured.
