MrsMummy that's great news about the mortgage!

Still feeling rough here. I'm so ready for baby to come now because I really don't have much more stretch left in me, but I want baby to be all baked first. Less than 2 weeks until my drop zone starts!
Neurology today, hoping they'll give me some advice for with this headache because cocofamol didn't touch it yesterday.

Hope everyone slept well last night and has a good but relaxing day ahead!

bushprincess · 26/03/2014 08:43

Thanks and Cake to everyone having a hard time... will all be worth it!,

Great news on the mortgage mrsmummy! Hope purchase goes through smoothly now!

Good luck with neurology today moomin

Xxx to all

So sorry to hear that so many of you are having a rough time of it.

Last week, one of my mum's friend's daughters (if you follow that) came down with pre-eclampsia at 30 weeks and had to have an emergency c section. Baby is tiny, only 2 and a half pounds, but both mum and baby doing well. Mum sent me some pics and they made me cry as my little one will look a lot like that now, only hopefully a bit bigger at 33+6. Anyway, just thought I would share that as it reassured me that even if things go wrong now we are starting to get to the range where a lot can be done and outcomes are getting better all the time.

MrsFooCough · 26/03/2014 09:31

Next clinic appt today, and a growth scan. I've cried today already at the thought that I might get put on meds today, would they do that if all my bloods except one have been below 10? I've been managing really well I think, and they never talked to me about personalised bG targets, just wrote in my notes that fasting should be 4.0-7.5 and after a meal no higher than 7.5, that makes no sense surely?

randdom · 26/03/2014 09:46

Whooping cough jab in a couple of hours. Hate injections :(

Squiffie · 26/03/2014 10:12

MrsFoo I'm back at diabetes clinic today abd fully expecting to be put on metformin. My fasting numbers haven't been above 5.6 but the target is below 5 (below 5.5 according to NICE guidelines) and all bar one of my after meals this week has been below 7 (NICE guidelines suggest below 7.8). Different consultants have different ideas on what targets should be but I think you're right in the fact that those numbers you've been given don't make all that much sense.

Bornin1984 · 26/03/2014 10:19

Ican count in two hands how often I've had my fasting under 5.5... Ican range from 6.1 to 7.5!!!

Squiffie · 26/03/2014 10:55

My consultant wants below 5 :( I have no idea how to achieve that.

Squiffie · 26/03/2014 10:57

I also hate the fact that it's an afternoon clinic as I spend all morning feeling like crap.

NannyPlumForPM · 26/03/2014 12:52

My targets are below 5.3 for fasting and below 7.8 for after meals so quite generous compared to the rest of you!!

MrsFooCough · 26/03/2014 12:59

squiff I'm pretty sure that below 5 would be a challenge even for a non-diabetic non-pregnant person! I do think that you have to be quite firm with them, tell them you feel it's an unnecessarily difficult target level and ask them to explain exactly why they're set so low, otherwise we risk being dictated to and left none the wiser as to why!

Flixy102 · 26/03/2014 13:01

My targets are even more generous-fasting level under 5.5 and under 8 an hour after meals!

NannyPlumForPM · 26/03/2014 13:02

Mmm I agree mrsfoo , it does sound uneccesarily difficult! I wonder if it's something to do with individual tolerance or something?? Who kniws

NannyPlumForPM · 26/03/2014 13:03

Oooooh flixy- you can almost get away with chocolate Wink porridge sent mine to 9.9 so I can safely keep away from THAT! I thought it's ok made with water?? Apparently nooooo

Bornin1984 · 26/03/2014 13:36

I find breakfast as a whole is the most difficult meal to manager

Flixy102 · 26/03/2014 14:08

I can definitely get away with a little chocolate Wink.

I found that even 'healthy' cereals leave my levels quite high but porridge with artificial sweetener mixed in is good.

sambababy · 26/03/2014 14:51

GD sounds so hard! I consider myself very lucky, because I don't have it but I don't think my diet is thaaaat good.

Sounds like they just want me to skip the early stage PE tests then and go straight to the end. I shouldn't grumble.

I have another question. What are afterpains?? Is this when the uterus is contracting back down? Are the really that bad and how long do they last? (Oops, every time I say I have a question, I end up asking three!)

NannyPlumForPM · 26/03/2014 15:16

All I know about after pains is it was the first thing mum told me to expect due to having a second baby! I can't say i felt them/ knew about them if they were present with the first.

Apparently they get worse with each subsequent pregnancy.... Delightful!

MrsFooCough · 26/03/2014 15:26

Hey all - samba I've no idea about after pains sorry!

Consultant prescribed me 500mg metformin twice daily, my target levels have been clarified as up to 5.5 fasting and no higher than 7.8 after a meal. All my results thus far the past week have been at least 1.0 higher than those Confused Sad
So onto the metformin I go, baby's estimated to be 4lb4oz now and I'm only 30+4 Shock but abdominal circumference and amniotic fluid depth are at the high end of normal range, so I foresee at least 2 increases of metformin before delivery. Likely to be induced at 39/40wks, no chance of going beyond due date apparently which I'm glad about!

So I'm going to try to call the dietician and discuss stuff, the diabetes midwife was a bit patronising and said I was over thinking it. So I'm not feeling very encouraged Sad

Bornin1984 · 26/03/2014 15:37

Mini me ac is above the 95th centile -
Any idea what that means?

mrsmummytobe · 26/03/2014 15:48

Thanks so much for the support everyone :) We really didn't think it would happen so we're over the moon!

impatiently I'm getting swollen hands too, also getting pins & needles in them quite a lot!

Good luck to all those having appointments & growth scans & sympathy to everyone with GD. I still haven't got my results back from my GTT test & had it about a month ago!

dobedobedo · 26/03/2014 16:07

samba I remember afterpains with ds - they were horrible. They were worse when breastfeeding, because that makes your uterus contract. Just dose up on paracetamol and have hot water bottles on hand. They're just like bad period pains.

Congrats on the house news mrsmummy! Grin

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 26/03/2014 16:34

Neurologist doctor was lovely today :) they don't want to send me for a CT scan while I'm pregnant. He doesn't think it's anything major to worry about, more that doctors get over-excited over every new illness that starts during pregnancy.

Walked around Wilkinsons this afternoon and got horrendous BH, at one point they were so painful and the pressure down below and I grabbed OH's hand and said "I'm scared it might be the real thing"... thankfully since I've sat down, they've eased a lot so I'm not so worried Grin

Feeling like crap emotionally though. I feel huge and massive and disgusting and I can't walk without waddling so I look like a giant penguin Sad and we've got to have professional headshots done on Friday as part of our course, they're being sent off for an agent to critique for us and all the emphasis is on looking impressive and making a good impression with make-up etc so I'm feeling rubbish because I doubt I could make a good impression if you covered me in glue and rolled me in glitter right now, and I'm in the library till half 6 because OH is going out for a game of pool with some friends and there's a group of girls on one of the other tables who are staring at me every time I look up, they just look disgusted Sad

And all I can do is sit here and eat Maltesers Blush and wish I felt prettier Sad

Sorry, I know it's a really petty thing to whine about and doesn't matter a bit in the long run but I feel rubbish Sad

LongTailedTit · 26/03/2014 16:35

samba I had the afterpains with DS and they were bloody horrible - pretty much like labour again for me. From what I gather, that's quite unusual - most of my friends have had a few twinges when feeding and that's it.
Mine were so bad I cried, but then they did coincide with the hormonal crash as well so I might have cried over a stubbed toe too! I had Diclofenac in hospital for them, and paracetamol didn't touch them once I was home - just had to ride it out. Think they stopped after a week or so?

My DSis has three DC and says they got worse with each baby, but even so was surprised at how much they seemed to hurt me.
To be fair I was a bit of a state anyway with DS being early and not feeding, so I wouldn't say my experience was typical.
Fingers crossed it's easier this time!

MrsFooCough · 26/03/2014 16:38

Oh moom don't worry about sounding petty, it's not petty at all! We're both youngish first time mums, it's a HUGE thin that our bodies are doing and it's going to be stressful and is bound to make us question our body image. I'm fretting about going to our goddaughter's christening when I'll be 36wks, everyone will be thinking "good god they've asked a WHALE to be her godmother"
