Congratulations Lumpy! Em I think I'd have to go for Benjamin rather than Benedict but chances are everyone will just call him Ben anyway! I might copy Flump and attempt a swim seeing as walking is so painful. I fancy being relatively weightless for a while.
What's everyone up to this weekend?

BSpice · 22/02/2014 07:30

Hi all! Congrats wuxi and lumpy, both lovely name choices. So many Martians out & engaged babies- let's hope that trend continues! TMI alert- 3 weeks to go and oh the joys of pregnancy has given me piles! So now dealing with grapes hanging out my arse & hoping to get emergency GP appt on Monday! Any interim relief tips gratefully received!
On a positive, the scaffolding for our loft conversion has finally gone up (after months of dealing with our difficult neighbours) & hospital bags packed!
yogi I'd defo consider acupuncture. Not tried it for labour inducing but other stuff & works for me! Though one midwife said the only things that work are sex & some castor oil champagne cocktail! Interesting recipe that could turn disastrous! Another recommended clary sage in base oil massage or in bath. Who knows whether these really work or babies just come when they r good & ready! Enjoy ur weekends!

Imeg · 22/02/2014 09:28

Congratulations on the new arrivals!
I can't believe it could happen any minute now (nearly 39 weeks)... Don't feel in any way ready, although I think we've got the most important bits of kit.

Fender1 · 22/02/2014 09:31

Morning ladies,
Hope everybody is feeling well on this lovely Saturday morning, is it just me that cant believe that it's March this time next week ?!
All good in Fender-land, 38 wks on Monday, presentation scan shows baby is head down so should be 'fixed' now...
Mrsmagoo - My PFB was extended breach and I had an ELCS after a failed ECV. To be honest the C section was WAY more comfortable than the ECV (don't think I'd ever do that again looking back with all the danger of cord entanglement etc). I was also told after the event that as DCs bum was seated in my pelvis it was unlikely to have worked - why they don't tell you that at the time I don't know...!
Congratulations to the new mummies amongst us, those first few days are so precious Smile xx

IceNoSlice · 22/02/2014 10:14

Me too Em, there's just something about him! Yum.

Sympathy BSpice that sounds rubbish Sad. Perhaps some googling might help find some home remedies (though be careful not to open any images or eye bleach might be required!)

FrankelInFoal · 22/02/2014 11:22

A bit late for most of us, but I've just found out that Which now have a dedicated website called "Birth Choice" which allows you to look at stats for your local hospitals and compare facilities. It's very interesting:

puggywug81 · 22/02/2014 12:59

Hello Martians!

Congratulations to wuxi & lumpy, it's all getting a bit real now isn't it, eek!

1 more week till mat leave, I'm hoping the nesting will kick in spontaneously.

mrsmugoo · 22/02/2014 13:06

Thanks for the info Fender this one's bum is also down in my pelvis so I wonder if they will even offer me an ECV. I would like to try anything to avoid a c section - it's more selfish reasons because the beginning of my pregnancy was a bit unconventional (didn't find out I was pregnant until 14 weeks and it was all a bit of a drama) so I feel that to "right" that, I'd love to have the chance to birth this baby naturally and experience contractions, pushing etc.... I'm much more scared of surgery than I am of giving birth, but starting to come around to it a bit more now. Although trying not to either get my hopes up or resign myself to a c section until after my consultant appt.

LyraSilvertongue · 22/02/2014 14:41

Hi Wuxi, my Martian was also born on Valentine's Day, 2.5 weeks early weighing 6lb 14oz. How's yours doing?

Mrs, an ELCS really isn't the end of the world. I had one a week ago and it was fine. I'm recovering well and pain is now minimal. And you get to skip all those hideous contractions Wink

LyraSilvertongue · 22/02/2014 14:47

Started a post-natal club here:

Fender1 · 22/02/2014 14:55

I fully understand Mrs re. 'Doing it naturally'. I'll admit I even had a little cry after the failed ECV when I was given my ELCS date. But safety came first for us and it will for you and mini-mugoo too. I'm going for a VBAC this time round so all is not lost Smile
Have a look at the spinning babies website to see if there is anything there you haven't already tried.

DitaVonCreamTeas · 22/02/2014 15:24

Congratulations on the Martian arrivals Flowers. The first of my NCT classmates has had hers, and there are primroses in the back garden, so it feels like things are coming along.

I'm so ready to have this baby now; we've got all the things we need (well, we probably haven't, but we've got the things on our list), and the house is in reasonable order. At 38 weeks I'm getting quite bored of it now. haveyouhadthatbabyyet.com/

mrsmugoo · 22/02/2014 15:40

I noticed the primroses in the hospital garden and it made me think ahh spring - and I'm having a spring baby!

Lottie345 · 22/02/2014 20:33

Congrats to all the new arrivals! Def felt like spring today and felt quite excited about how closes it all is now. 38 wks tomorrow!

PainAuxRaisins · 22/02/2014 21:45

Dita good link - wish I'd had it last time when I went 2 weeks over. Will definitely use it this time round for all those annoying "Have you had it yet?" texts/emails

dizhin79 · 22/02/2014 23:17

over had 4 'ooooh nearly time' texts this week (38wks on Monday)

liberuna · 23/02/2014 00:42

Brilliant link ha! It's definitely got a spring feel to the air :) And any babies coming now will be Pisces!

Bubs is feeling heavy now. Q: is anyone got itchy boobs?

I don't know whether to moisturise or is this what the lanisoh is for?

FrankelInFoal · 23/02/2014 09:07

I've had itchy boobs for months! I think it's just the skin stretching. The Lanisoh is for your nipples, to stop them cracking. A friend recommended starting to apply a little every day before baby arrives to soften them up.

Yogibear72 · 23/02/2014 10:07

Congrats Wuxi Wine

Yesterday was glorious and lovely to know our March babies are just round the corner.
TMI alert.... Bspice piles are caused by the weight of baby on your pelvic floor. Unlikely to be able to do anything for you until the pregnancy is over. I recommend prune juice, all bran and prunes which will at least help things along Flowers

Spoke to accupunturist and was told that it would be unethically to do any type of induction treatment before 41 weeks. Need to find another method to bring baby on. 39 weeks tomorrow but honestly feel 2 weeks overdue. It feels like a massive baby!! Hope not Confused

MummyBee87 · 23/02/2014 11:41

Hi Guys,
I'm just after a bit of advice/reassurance. I've not felt the baby move since I went to bed yesterday, we're usually quite active, so it's odd not to have felt anything. I know I'm supposed to look out for ten movements a day, but what do I do if I don't feel them? Hopefully I'm panicking over nothing, but it doesn't stop the worry. :S
Thanks in advance xx

Fender1 · 23/02/2014 11:47

Hi MummyBee,
How many weeks are you? They do slow down around 37-38 wks but you should still 'feel' them trying to get comfy
Try drinking a sugary drink (cola etc) and lying on your left side for ten mins.
That usually gets a response but if in doubt ring your CMW / Antenatal ward triage for advise.
Let us know how you get on. X

pixiebell79 · 23/02/2014 12:26

Hi MummyBee,

I had a similar thing on Friday and contacted my antenatal unit - they'll get you in and put a monitor on to check the baby. They'd rather have a dozen false alarms than miss a baby in distress so if you're still concerned after trying the cold drink/lie down test then get yourself up there for monitoring. Mine started kicking away as soon as I was hooked up (naturally!) but they weren't fazed and it was so reassuring to hear his heartbeat.

Let us know how you get on.

dizhin79 · 23/02/2014 13:15

definitely call and get checked mummybee like the others have said hopefully nothing but best to be sure xx

FrankelInFoal · 23/02/2014 13:45

Agree with the other mummybee, if you call the midwife/antenatal unit they will ask you to try the usual tricks:

Drink something very cold
Drink something hot
Lie on your left side for a period of time
Sometimes taking a bath can get them moving

If you've tried all if these without success then they'll ask you to come in for a reassurance check.

Odds are everything is fine and baby is just asleep/in a position that makes it harder to feel movements, but it's always better to get checked out and be safe.

OwlinaTree · 23/02/2014 16:17

Do get it checked mummybee. Sometimes mine just has a quieter day tho.
