BuntCadger · 15/01/2014 08:44

Felix - just wanted to 2nd all the advice you've been given here re bfing. also the mammoth feeding session time is normal as they put in their order to your body for increased supply. I've bfed all 3 dc, longest was 3y10m. still feeding dd 2y3m do looking likely I'll be tandem feeding (eek).

still having ctx here but at home still. went through night and they are about 4 min apart still but not unmanageable. I'm glad I didn't go in yesterday and I think I will just trust me more and when I can no longer cope with pain. I know baby will come and no point in stressing.

dh stepped up now too which made a huge difference to my mindset. little ones both slept in their own beds for entire night last which was awesome Grin

I had a fab group going on but been uber crap at doing it, is there another one? x

BuntCadger · 15/01/2014 08:45

Not fab but fb

TobyLerone · 15/01/2014 08:46

Glad you're feeling a bit more positive, bunt :)

Mythreeknights · 15/01/2014 08:55

Yet bunt you are doing so well! That's 2-3 days of contractions now for you isn't it? I was woken at two am with a good strong contraction but then went back to BHs for the rest of the night. 2 days of period pains too so at mw appt today (39+6) I will ask for a sweep, suspect the answer is no as not 40 weeks yet.

felix I second what everyone is saying...sounds like a gruelling growth spurt to me. Main advice is to look after your boobs and avoid engorgement or mastitis...worst pain I have ever had (beyond childbirth!)

humpty enjoy your pedicure...enjoy as much peace as you can get. I have no kids today so planning a v v lazy one Grin

Naturegirl82 · 15/01/2014 09:08

Sounds like everyone is busy. 40 weeks here today. Still getting period cramps and lots of bh. Also feel bruised down below but nothing else.

Is everyone opting for sweeps? I've got a mw appointment tomorrow. Don't know if I'll be offered a sweep but I'm not 100% sure if I want one. My understanding is they only can be done if your body is getting ready for labour anyway and they cause a more painful labour. I realise that it's better than the alternative methods of induction though. Don't really know what to do.

I'm having similar feeding issues by the sound of it felix. P cluster fed for three hours the other night, which hurt like nothing else, but it meant we had a relatively easy night of it overnight. I sort of wish she'd do it again now. My milk came in a couple of days ago so now my boobs (which were a G cup pre-pregnancy) are ridiculously large and don't fit into my sleep nursing bras. I've got one bleeding nipple as well. It is all so very glamorous!
I'm thinking about expressing so that a)DH can help out during the day and I can have a nap, and b) to help with the leakage. Honestly, one side is like a running tap at the moment.
Oh yeah, I'm being a weepy, hormonal nightmare in DH's general direction as well [shame], so all in all I'm being a bit shit and needy at the moment. Hope it passes soon.
Sending contracty and dilated thoughts to all those in need Grin. And welcome back gobbo!

Percypiglet · 15/01/2014 10:03

Felix we were told to pass our baby's to our dhs as they don't always want to feed, just can smell the milk and then sit on the breast not doing much....Might help? I have no experience of bfeeding though as this is baby 1 for me and still not here!

Nature - I have midwife next at 40 +6, at last appmt she offered to do a sweep at 40+4 but I declined saying I'd prefer to see if my body does it naturally. You don't have to have a sweep at all, it is up to you.

Why don't you discuss all the options with the midwife? I always think it's good practice to get into asking lots of questions like adv/disadvantages/risks, what will happen if I do nothing... as I might need to ask them on labour ward (if I am with it enough)!

GoshAnneGorilla · 15/01/2014 10:18

Hello everyone. Congratulations on all the new babies since I last pooped by.

I'm 40+4 and fed up. I thought it was all starting this morning, contractions, back pain so I rang delivery suite and they asked me to come in...then it just went away and I'm back to madam kicking me all over the shop! Blush.

I've got the midwife today. I will try begging for a sweep, but I'm at the hospital tomorrow for my 41 week (ish) apt, so if not today, I'll get one then.

Frizz1986 · 15/01/2014 10:26

So hospital called and aurelias billirubin has dropped to 180 (at 3 weeks old) Doc said if it was dropping then they wouldn't see her again, but they have dropped from 234 at 1 week old and the doc has now said they want to repeat test next week. I am starting to worry that it isn't going down fast enough and there could be a problem. Feeling v teary.

enormouse · 15/01/2014 10:33

I think I'd prefer to not have a sweep - go naturally.

I've been trying to post that sentence and put through a grocery order for the past 2 and a half hours. DS is being particularly clingy and demanding today and I'm not coping well with being jumped and climbed on. He needs to go out but I'm not a great state to take him out. Also a little stressed with wanting to finish my last essay. Argh, sorry for how self indulgent this post is! I'm just feeling fed up and uncomfortable.

MerryPops · 15/01/2014 10:38

Morning all. I have forgotten everything I just read so I'll just say keep going everyone, these babies will come out eventually!

I am so grateful to have the forum though as your experiences are prompting questions so that dh and I can discuss beforehand, we're both firstbtimers so we are pretty clueless! So thanks everyone for sharing, you are an invaluable resource.

On a separate note I am not good at being off, I get bored easily. I wanted some time to relax but I now realise that I have forgotten how to, oops. Time to pick up those old hobbies I think!

fryingpantoface · 15/01/2014 10:44

Midwife has just been. She isn't worried about H's jaundice, she said it isn't bad. She also recommended getting the next test size up for bottles because he keeps falling asleep.
His umbilical cord fell off yesterday so she checked that. She said it's healing well. Also my uterus has totally shrunk back into place.

Naturegirl82 · 15/01/2014 10:51

Frizz I'm sure they are just being cautious. It sounds like it is heading in the right direction though so please don't lose hope.

Enormouse hope your day picks up and ds settles down.

Productive morning here so far. I'm determined to get downstairs sorted so I can start on the baby's room this afternoon. I can't put any more stuff away upstairs until baby's room is done as baby's stuff is in spare room argh!

My mw is really good and we have all ready discussed pros and cons of sweep. She is more into natural methods so there won't be a problem if I decide not to have one. I think my preference is not to have one tomorrow and see what happens. I have to use labour suite anyway so even if I end up needing to be induced it doesn't alter those plans.

Hi everyone

I have been following the thread but mostly too incoherent to post. Less than two hours sleep a day for two weeks is def taking its toll. Mum came for two days last week which was great, but sod's law DH has to submit his thesis this week so apart from that have been alone since getting back from hospital. Maybe this is for the best, since not so DH has already managed to question why I didn't have time to wash up and suggest that I should lose weight "for my health" and get annoyed that he has to look after DD shen I am bfing. He is being a class A dick and if I weren't stuck feeding when most of these comments were made I almost certainly would have killed him.

frizz that is really good that the bilirubin is on its way down. Try not to guess why they want to see her next week, could just be extra caution. I was worried nour's levels had risen becuase at two weeks he looks like a canary, but nurses completely umconcerned and wont even take a measurement. I felt loads better when I read this about jaundice in breastfed babies which says unless urine is brown or baby not putting on weight there is nothing to worry about and it is normal for the jaundice to last til 5 or 6 weeks. Hth.

Felix breastfeeding is hard isn't it? I am on my second.time around and still having trouble getting going. It gets so much easier though, I promise, and in a month you will be skipping blithely about while all the ffing mummies lug around massive bags full of bottles and formula. Nour sometimes does the all night feeding thing too. It is v annoying and exhausting, but doesn't mean she isn't getting enough unless her poos are fewer, she does it 24/7 for several days or she is losing weight. I love www.kellymom.com for breastfeeding reassurance.

Good luck with the essay enormouse and hope DS goes down for a timely nap.Smile

Sorry my brain is mush but Flowers for all the new mums and eviction notices for all the babies still holding out.

Sorry, major phone freak out Blush Obv making up for all the posts I've lost. So ...new thread anyone?

BuntCadger · 15/01/2014 11:25

New thread sounds like a plan. I'm crap at titles tho but we are half way through jan now so still more babies to pop Smile

enormouse · 15/01/2014 11:28

For you altered New January thread

Felix90 · 15/01/2014 11:30

Thank you everyone fir the great advice re bf! I am feeling mire positive this morning Smile sorry in a rush so can't post much but just wanted to say thanks Thanks

enormouse · 15/01/2014 11:43

Thanks for the well wishes re the essay. It's all planned and researched - just needs writing. I do wish my lecturer wasn't so fond of theories that aren't popular any more.

Ds is now being infuriatingly cute crawling onto my lap and patting my cheek. 'There there mummy, there there'.

felix early cluster feeding is hellish. You have my support and admiration. I can't give any advice that's better than what's already been said.

altered I would have murdered him with a breast pump by now. You're doing well to ignore him.

nature your Mw sounds great.

frying congrats on your uterus, Smile

I'm on a lean food day as groceries arrive tomorrow. I want biscuits and all we have is an unmade gingerbread house. Would I be justified in eating the whole thing when ds has a nap?
