bunt good luck! hope things become less up and down. I share your frustration. On and off is driving out of my freaking mind.

toby has this week gone quickly? She is absolutely lush, btw. Total sweetie. More Fb pics!

TobyLerone · 14/01/2014 20:33

It's flown past!

I will try to get organised with a fb album at some point soon :)

littleraysofsunshine · 14/01/2014 21:05

I just checked my old diary..
Dd1 8lb9 at 40+5.
Dd2 was 5lb 8 at 36+3, 8lb 1.5 at 40+9.
this baby was 6lb 13 at 36+1.... So no idea for this birth weight!

12 days until EDD. Chances are I'll go over from previous... (They were both super fast though)

How is everyone?

I'm not sure if I should ask for a S&S at 39weeks or just wait until 40wks. Midwife said she would of I wanted

flyawayblue · 14/01/2014 21:09

Had a better day than yesterday emotion wise and baby has been mega active, though worried she is back to back as I think she's kicking on the right and sometimes towards my belly button.

Dh is now off work until the 17th Feb well other than 2 or so days, not sure if this is lovely as we will have time together before baby or something that's going to drive me mad...

Glad to read about the baby weight gain and sorry to read about the jandis.

bunt hope you've managed to be looked at and are feeling better. Sounds like you will have baby cuddles very soon.

fryingpantoface · 14/01/2014 21:10

toby i feel exactly the same! I can't believe he's one week tomorrow. It's an odd feeling, he's here but still feels like he should be inside me.
it's like he has always been here, the way he's slotted into our lives.

flyawayblue · 14/01/2014 21:13

Oh forgot to say I don't have a main 40 week appointment, I just have a "post date" appointment for a sweep at 40+3 (Friday) so I wouldn't worry about not having the appointment.

I don't like my trust's naming of the appointment though, sounds like you've somehow failed when the due date is just the date by which 50% of women have had their babies.

littleraysofsunshine · 14/01/2014 21:16

Maybe just tucked up flyaway,
My DVD kicks all over and feel lots around my front but mw said baby was in LOL position so not back to back, head is fully engaged so really low. I did heartbeat today and it's pretty low and central but I still feel like it's star fishing possible elbows on the side too?? Maybe the same for you

BuntCadger · 14/01/2014 21:19

Thx for support, I've stopped crying now lol.2 bloody hormones. I'm sat on ball getting Ctx still and still ouchy but I'm staying put till it feels like I need to go in.

littleraysofsunshine · 14/01/2014 21:25

Sending positive vibes bunt!

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 14/01/2014 21:31

Thank you fir the welcome back!

Toby - many congratulations! I love the name too

Is it OK if I join the facebook group? How would I do that Confused Grin

Angelesque · 14/01/2014 21:35

Ooh Bunt, you've been going a little while haven't you, so I bet it's not long for you now! Exciting!!!

littleray going to ask my MW re: position at Friday's 38 + 3 app - she never volunteers info when she palpates and all I've prised out so far is that baby's head down... I suspect baby is ROA but would like to know!

TobyLerone · 14/01/2014 21:42

Cheers, love :o

flyawayblue · 14/01/2014 21:42

Glad your feeling better bunt

The mw's have never commented on position other than head down so no idea if she is back to back or what. Will ask if I get a chance at the sweep appointment, or if I don't make it that far (thinking happy thoughts) when I make it in to the hospital!

Felix90 · 14/01/2014 23:25

bunt glad you're feeling better.

I'm having a bit of a nightmare at the moment and hoping anyone who has already bf another baby can help? I've started giving Sylvie one feed of formula at night, which has totally saved me from giving up breastfeeding. I was literally ready to jack it in as I was stressed and exhausted and OH suggested combi feeding after doing some research and it works well for us so far (we've only been doing it a few days). This evening she's fed for 2 hours straight and still didn't seem satisfied, when she usually feeds for around 20-30 minutes and settles nicely. She's then fed for another 40 minutes around an hour after the 2 hour feed and she's still showing signs that she's really hungry. My nipples are killing from her feeding so long and my boobs feel empty and I'm convinced I've messed up my supply from giving her a formula feed at night. I've been expressing to make up for the formula feed but I know it's not as effective as baby feeding. Is it possible that I've screwed things up? I know she's possibly going through a growth spurt currently but these last 2 feeds have just felt different, as usually I can feel/hear her gulping the milk down but I haven't this time. It also seems like she will eat a hell of a lot of formula before she's satisfied at night - around 4oz. Is this too much or sound about right? I feel like I can't keep up with her Confused

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 14/01/2014 23:33

gobbo pm me your real name or link to your Fb acct and I'll add you to the group.

felix no idea my lovely, but I do know our NCT b'feeding counsellor said supply will keep up with baby, even if it feels like it isn't. The ff sounds sensible to keep you sane. Can you ring La Leche or similar? Hugs. I'm sure you are doing perfectly.

TobyLerone · 14/01/2014 23:33

felix, I'm certain you haven't done anything to your supply by substituting one feed for formula, especially if you're expressing at the usual-ish time.

We had a night like that last night. It took 3 hours to settle her and I'm positive she drained both boobs in the process, with a lot of screaming in between (her, not me!)
DH had more luck with quietening her temporarily, because every time I tried she could smell milk and automatically assumed she wanted feeding.

It was a nightmare and I sympathise completely.

I don't know anything about what amounts of milk are 'normal', as I've never FFed a newborn.

Felix90 · 14/01/2014 23:42

Humpty I have contact details for the breastfeeding councillor from my NCT class so I'll drop her an email and see what she says. Not sure if she will turn her nose up at the fact I'm mixed feeding though! Also do you mind adding me to the FB group too if I pm you?

Toby it's funny you say that as I've just passed her over to OH as I physically can't feed her any more right now as I'm in loads of pain and she's settled for him after a few minutes. I'm just worried as it's very unusual for her to feed for that long! I've googled and it says if she's going through a growth spurt it's common for babies to feed for ages to get your supply up. It's bloody killing though and my nipples have only just stopped hurting after getting used to bf Sad

Frizz1986 · 14/01/2014 23:59

felix have you got any lansinoh lanolin cream for sore nipples? It really helps mine recover if Aurelia hasn't latched well.
I think you'll be suprised by your boobs. If you give them a squeeze when you think they are empty milk will prob spurt out still (that's what I find) People keep telling me that as as soon as baby starts to suck it draws more milk through so you can't run out, it just might mean it takes a stronger suck for the same amount of milk compared to when they are full.
Don't feel bad about a bottle of formula. Firstly you are doing it to keep you breastfeeding so it makes it good thing and anyway, if you decided to completely formula feed, as long as baby is getting fed I don't think it matters.

Felix90 · 15/01/2014 00:01

Thank you frizz! Im sure if I tried to express now I'd probably be surprised at how much I'd be able to get out. I think I'm just being paranoid about doing a good job! I've got a tube of lansinoh and it's a god send Grin

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 15/01/2014 02:37

felix PM away! All are welcome on our Fb group!

Also, frizz is right about supply, we were told that the fore/hind milk thing is a bit of a myth, it's all milk, it's just that the fat molecules cling to the ducts, so don't come out at first. You're producing milk continuously. Maybe reassuring to know?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 15/01/2014 03:18

humpty - just pmed you. Was hoping you might either be (a) asleep or (b) in labour. I'm neither, btw!

I've just pmed you my details and sent on some info I found re induction that I'm going to ask about. Hope it might be helpful

I had to go on the drip after getting to 7cms at home and after being in the MLU for another 5 hours with DS as everything just ground to a halt due to his position. I eventually had a low forceps delivery

One thing I am holding onto is that (a) the disc were lovely and once I embraced the drugs, 'twas lovely! I had something called remifentanil which wears off more quickly than an epidural as they hoped that maybe a dose of that and the drip for a bit might get things going again (sadly not). It's self-administered and I was absolutely off my face but in a lovely way. I felt like a very happy drunk and DH said I was hilarious in that inrefused to surrender the button thing when it was time for pushing and he and the midwife had to wrestle it off me. I also had some lovely sleep too as was exhausted by that stage.

Re the forceps delivery, I really did not want that but as it was low forceps, I've not had any damage and the stitching I got for my episiotomy in the theatre was excellent - far better than that of my friends on the MLUs - some of whom didn't get very good pain relief.

I also recovered far more quickly than my friends who had had sections too so I'm glad DH consented (I was off my face at that time!) to the forceps. He insisted on speaking to the obstetrician until he was quite happy before making a decision and she was very happy to answer all of his questions as we werent energency, emergrncy, I was just knackered vI think the key one he asked was how confident the obs was re the forceps as he didnt want me to have a failed trial of forceps plus a section. He also made sure that it was just the low forceps she was using as its the high (and sometimes medium ones) that can cause the most damage potentially. She said she was very confident with the forceps as DS' head was practically hanging out and she just needed to tuck his chin in rather than him having his head flexed back - which was true

Sorry - that was a total ramble but just wanted to say in all seriousness that if yiu get DH (or you, if you're in a fit state), primed with the questions, an induction and even a forceps/vont birth needn't be as horrid as you might think. And I say that as someone who on their birth plan had NO FORCEPS!

The only other thing I would say is to refuse the drip point blank until you have the pain relief sighted and up and running and you're sure it's working. I've heard some horror stories about people being told they'll just start the drip and then the anaesthetist will be up in 30 mins etc. Not on as the contractions are pretty intense from the word go. DH was also v good at getting that sorted too and noticed when my cannula had fallen out too midwife hadnt! so got then anaesthetist back quickly to sort that later on

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 15/01/2014 03:24

felix - hello! Second the Lansinoh!

Also, I had to exclusively express for DS untik he was 6 months as he had tongue tie and then never latched on properly after his tongue tie op

It was amazing how much I was expressing - even at the beginning - and they say that babies are more efficient at extracting than a pump so sure you'll be producing plenty. Plus they need such teeny amounts at this stage - just very frequently, unfortunately Grin

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 15/01/2014 04:08

Felix I would also add that babies will always seem to take more formula per sitting that breast milk. Something to do with the bottle nipple being positioned to hit the gulp reflex in the throat, and also the bottle is a finite source whereas boob milk just keeps coming (although it doesn't feel like it!) so it's more natural for them to feed on demand.

Had some good ctx las tight while watching tv, but went to bed and felt nothing all night. I'm meeting a friend for lunch so I'm hoping a long walk round the mall might kick things up a notch!

littleraysofsunshine · 15/01/2014 07:01

I breastfed my two girls (upto 13m & 15m) and have also trained as a breastfeeding peer support, just remember it works on Supply & demand basis, your body will make what baby is asking for, if you need to express (I did when I had mastitis x2, an open wound from bad latching and thrush. All at once- Not pleasant) and it will help, but yes will not be as efficient than baby actually drawing the milk out. Trust your body, instincts and remember you're doing a great job!

Sorry I haven't had chance to read all the way back but just saw snippets so I've probably missed the point.

And I've currently got dd1 moaning in my ear that she hasn't got a doctor magazine to read right now at 7am Grin
