Hi everyone. Its been a very long time since I have posted on mumsnet, but today I have found out that I am expecting baby number 2. My ds1 is just over three years old. Bit shocked to be having another baby but very pleased too.
It would be great to get a thread going as people join me with their April 2007 due dates!!
Very nervous as ds1 had group b strep and birth and was v poorly but forewarned is forearmed as they say!
Look forward to chatting with anyone who feels like posting!

Oh and they are very Pro Home Birth up here if you want it and all the circumstances are right health wise...unfortunatley I will be having an elective c-sec after last time so that doesn't apply to me - although I would have loved to have been able to labour at home and then have a shower and get into bed with my new baby....never mind!

I think it does vary wildly though depending upon where you live and what hospital and maternity funding is like?

sallycinnamon · 13/08/2006 15:00

Me too mammyjo. I think its just evrything in the womb department having a bit of a stretch. I know what you mean though about being scared to go to the loo in case there's blood.
Hi muminamini- congratulations! I can appreciate the car thing. I've got a Ka which is fine for me and dd but not for me, dd, baby and buggy and shopping etc.

generaldogsbody1 · 13/08/2006 15:08

hi guys, I havn't posted for a while. Had a few probs but all is back on track
i had a scan two weeks ago, it showed an empty sac and nothing else. I was so worried! MW told me she didn't think it was a viable pregnancy
went back a week later, had another scan, and guess what? there was the bean with a tiny little hb!!!!!!!!
got my dates totally off, i must have got a bfp 5 days after i concieved. the reaseon for the early scan was for a suspected eptopic, turns out i had a uti, mega implantation pain!! got nothing but bfn when in hospital til they did blood hcg levels. I'm so happy now, will get another scan at 8 wks for more accurate dating, then 12 wk routine then 22wks for a detailed scan as there is a family history of spina bifida.

sorry for waffeling lol. have only told dp and my wee mum, having to watch every word i say, i have nearly slipped up on several occasions lol

muminamini · 13/08/2006 15:13

Hi Generaldogsbody

So happy all is well for you.. i can fully appreciate what you went through as the exact same thing happened to me with DS (he is now 2)!

The waiting and worrying is terrible - try and relax now and enjoy being pregnant as I know the stress must have taken the edge off it for you

gmary · 13/08/2006 15:14

mmmm, so should i see a GP already? does one usually just find any GP locally in London - and then arrange for a private specialist (or whatever) after that? and why should i see a GP before the first three month scan? (just wondering - because i didn't plan this and i seem to be really off the mark reading your messages)

generaldogsbody1 · 13/08/2006 15:25

gmary,
see your GP first, s/he will then refer you to your local hosp or you may be able to book an appt with mw at your surgery. i would recommend the nhs any day of the week. ask around and be prepared for everyone telling you both good and bad experiences go with your instincts, you have the right to choose where you give birth. oh and be prepared for all the negative and graphic birth stories!!!

muminamini · 13/08/2006 15:28

Hi Gmary

I take it you are not registered ata GP at the mo?

RU new to the country?
I work as a receptionist at our local GP so can only go off my experience there...If you are from UK just take your NHS card to your nearest GP and ask to register. If you have no NHS card or are new to the country just go in and ask if they are taking on patients and ask to register.
You will be registered as soon as the details from the registration form are keyed into the computer and if you are from the UK they will recall your notes from your previous GP (usually takes a couple of weeks)....you can make an appointment tho as soon as you are registered as they will take your history from you at your first ante-natal appointment.
I don't know how the private thing works at all I'm afraid but up here in the North West and ont he NHS we get people booked in with the midwife asap to get the ball rolling of booking scans and beds at hospital etc...just getting you "in the system" really.

Hope that helps....I would register with an NHS GP and make an appointment with them as they should be able to give you good info re private provision in your area also...you may decide to have your ante-natal care with NHS and just go private for the birth??

IsabellaMoi · 13/08/2006 15:33

Hi Muminamini,
Thanks very much for your post. Yes, I have heard wonderful things about the NHS system (and also the odd horror story) but it sounds very good over all and we will quite likely go that route. Canada has a good health care system but I think the UK's is probably superior especially because midwives are usually so involved every step of the way.
I expect things will be a bit more clear once I've seen my GP.
I really appreciate your sharing your experience,
Thanks!
IsabellaMoi

gmary · 13/08/2006 15:45

hi muminamini,

you are right - i have no NHS card yet - as i am to study at university come september...so i am just living at The Met for the moment.

anyhow, that's all excellent advice and i shall look for a GP somewhere nearby. thanks!

hollyhobbie · 13/08/2006 17:40

Told my friends that I was PG last night, as I didn't think I could think of excuses for why I'm so tired and queasy for the next 5 weeks, and one of my best friends is also PG!
I'm due 04 April and she's due 06 April!
Am feeling tired and queasy all the time now, and have thrown up once - bah! I was determined to do a better job of controlling the MS this time...

bobblehead · 13/08/2006 17:44

Hi MIAM and Congrats!!!. Nice to see another graduate!
Welcome gmary too (and anyone else!).

Glad to hear everything is ok gerald, that must have been really worrying for you, hope you can relax and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy.

I've told my mum and 2 friens so far. Had to tell mum as she will fly over to help out with dd when baby is born. Also had to tell friend as I went all funny about eating out late one night (queasiness tens to kick in if I leave it too late) and she must have thought I was being rude so fessed up to her. I'm quite enjoying having a secret though I must confess but can't wait to get to the 12 week mark. We don't get a scan here until 20 weeks so a while to wait for that though!

liath · 13/08/2006 18:18

Hi & congratulations to the new folk. We'll need a stats thread soon to keep track! Great news, Generaldogsbody - what a relief for you.

Went to bed at 8pm last night so woke up feeling like a new woman - then promptly started to panic because I felt fine! Nausea & tiredness kicked in again this afternoon, though. Have told my parents, sisters (who are both pg as well) and close friends - basically the people who I'd want to know if I had a miscarriage for support etc. Thinking positive here, as you can see!

sallycinnamon · 13/08/2006 19:06

That's really good news Generaldogsbody. What a terrible time you must have had.
Congrats to everyone

muminamini · 13/08/2006 20:17

Thanks Bobblehead!

God your doing well with your secret - I am terrible - have told every man and his dog...I just figure what will be will be and if the worst happens my friends and family can support us if needed etc....

but you do then think god am I gonna jinx it by saying!?

mammyjo · 13/08/2006 22:16

Glad its good news for you generaldogsbody! I get comfort from this thread knowing others are going through the same stuff as me. My crampy pains have settled down now. Its weird but if anything happens you automatically think the worst dont you?
Still very nauseated today, hoping my preggie pops will get here tomorrow and then praying they help! Crap day today, really tearful and just generally down. Hoping for a better day tomorrow.
Welcome to all the newcomers, look forward to chatting with you all!

EllieK · 13/08/2006 22:21

hi all
muminamin - the peeing thing is driving me nuts! don't remember it from this early last time (ds is nearly 3) but as i didn't know i was pg til almost 8 weeks i guess i wouldn't have known what it was!

liath - i am new to this, what is a stats thread?

we have told everyone, is dp's first child so he's very excited! i figured the same as liath, if anything did go wrong i'd want people to know what we were going thro and to support us so no real reason to keep it quiet.

HELP anyone have any advice for me on when is best time to try explaining to ds?

EllieK · 13/08/2006 22:23

sorry to hear you're having a bad day mammyjo, mine aren't too hot at the moment either but just taking it an hour at a time is helping!

bobblehead · 14/08/2006 03:26

I'm also wondering about when/how to tell dd, EllieK. She will only be 22 months when db arrives so don't know how much she will understand, but obviously can't just disappear for a day or two then show up with a baby!

muminamini · 14/08/2006 09:21

Hi Ellie K and Bobblehead

My DS is 2 and I figure I will start to tell him when my tummy is showing as until then I don't think he will understand.

My friend has just had her third and her Second son was coming upt o age 3 and she told him from when her tummy was showing....for some bizzare reason he kept telling everyone that his mummy had a baby rabbit in her tummy?!

I don't think they will truly know whats going on till the baby arrives - I am dreading my DS being jealous, I think he will be initially but will probably get on with it when he realises his bro or sis is here to stay!

Mammyjo - sorry to hear you have been feeling down - these blinking hormones eh?!

I hardly slept a wink last night as I was constantly weeing and also the nausea was actually waking me up! I haven't been sick but just keep getting these waves of nausea - but the wierd thing is it's also like a hunger pain so whilst I feel sick I also feel really hungry - WIERD.

I have just taken DS to nursery as I work this afternoon and have bought (another) Pregnancy Mag so I am gonna curl up on the settee with a brew and read that.

My other wierd symptom today is that my legs feel strange - like they belong to someone else and are really restless. it is very irritating - has anyone else had that?

Anyway - catch you all later no doubt - have a fab day

(today is the day my AF would arrive so fingers crossed I don't have an unwelcome visitor....I had to do another test this morning just to convince myself I'm still PG!)

twinkle183 · 14/08/2006 09:44

Morning everyone... so I haven't posted for a while have had family down!!! So was unable to post anything!!!

It seems like alot has gone on since I last posted!!! I hope that everyone is okay.... I am having terrible trouble with my boobs, my 2.5yr old whos very cuddly seems to be able to elbow them everytime!!! He does say sorry but because they are very painful and tender I am having trouble keeping my cool!!! Is anyone else having this problem???

Take care and congrats to all the newcomers I hope that you have a happy pregnancy!

doobydoo · 14/08/2006 11:36

Hi everyone and welcome to the new posters.Muminamini..yes my legs have been feeling similar. You have described it well!
it is a very odd feeling isn't it?My hands have felt similar too.
eveery time i go to the loo i chck for bleeding and if i stop feeling sick i worry.I also have moments of anxiety worrying about it all being ok.
And yesterday i had a cigarette which i am upset about,my lack of self control].Good to be able to post anxieties etc on here tho.Hope everyones feeling sick today!

muminamini · 14/08/2006 11:46

Hi Doobydoo

Don't beat yourself up about the ciggie - just put it behind you and start again if you are trying to give up - beating yourself up will make you feel worse. Think positive....maybe speak to the midwife or GP about help with smoking cessation if it's what you want to do

doobydoo · 14/08/2006 11:56

Thanks muminamini.I had stopped which is what really annoyed me!I t was when a friend came round.
That's it tho.I keep visualising the harm i could do and that does the trick!
I wanted to stop anyway because it's completely stupid.
I am going to purchase lots of bubble gum and chew like a cow and blow massive bubbles.

bubblez · 14/08/2006 12:24

Hello everyone!!

Wow a lot has gone on since I last posted!

Welcome and congrats all the newcomers hope you all have happy and healthy pregnacies.

OH and hiya MIAM big congratulations for graduating from the positive thread. I didn't realise that you worked in a GP office, that information you gave earlier about the timing of apts was very helpful. I was a little confused that I haven't had any apts booked for me yet but the I'm going to be 6wks tomorrow so it makes sense now.

Twinkle I am def with you on the loosing my cool front. I'm also confinced that my dp is cheating on me. I really don't remember being paranoid or snappy with my dd.

I haven't been getting restless legs but I have been getting restless arms. Oh and I have told everyone apart from dp's family that im prgers(MIL gave me too much stress last time, I don't need it again).

Doobydoo dont stress about the one cig.
