Argh! I can't wait for my new diary to arrive so I can start making my baby lists. There isn't much we need but I do love a good list! Grin

Hezbean · 29/12/2013 13:24

Hi girls

randdom I've booked in for nct classes in March. Thought it would be good especially for dh and it would be nice to meet some other first time parents nearby.

We have decided on our pram and are getting a new car but we won't get those until march or April. I don't think we'll get anything else for a while yet but purely because we don't have the room in our flat. We need to have a mega sort out first!

Baby seems to be moving loads more the last couple of days and I can feel it more strongly, and higher up in my belly - it must be getting bigger!

I've had a horrible d&v bug the last 24 hours which seems to have gone round our whole family. Feeling better today though.

rebeccax2 · 29/12/2013 13:32

Mattress protectors - yay or nay?

bluestone85 · 29/12/2013 13:33

Thanks dobe that would be great!

randdom I'm doing the nct antenatal classes, but not becoming a member. I would have done the free ones at the hospital, but I live near Grantham and going to a hospital in Nottingham so want to meet people in my area! x

ThePollyAndTheIvy · 29/12/2013 15:17

Hi all, Just seen a bounty voucher code for a full body pillow for £12 on the Precious Little One website, down from £45ish! Think you might need to sign up to get it on an email but well worth it Smile

dobedobedo · 29/12/2013 15:36

rebecca YAY, 100% yay. Unless the baby's mattress is washable. Babies puke A LOT, and they also have runny poo on occasion too. Also get some mattress protectors for your own bed because you can bet the baby will puke on that too. There is nothing worse than scrubbing, hair dryering and febreezing your own mattress at 4am!
blue the mothercare orb is a best buy with a score of 77/100 on the which site. Some of the customer reviews aren't great though - but I find people only tend to review stuff when they're pissed off!

dobedobedo · 29/12/2013 15:40

I've just went onto the Mamas and Papas site and bought the pram, car seat, baby bath moses basket and some maternity bras for £380! Gotta love their January sale! All that stuff would have cost more than £700 otherwise!
I got the sola pushchair with the cybex aton car seat - both are "which" best buys with good safety test results etc. Can't wait to get it all delivered and start playing with it!

ISawNannyPlumKissingSantaClaus · 29/12/2013 16:08

Haven't even started thinkin about things to buy.... My list is: pram- got from dd (silver cross 3d travel system),
newborn car seat - as above
Moses basket- got from friend that we lent car seat to but need mattress
High chair- still from dd
Cot- still got

So my main purchases are the steriliser system, a perfect feed thing that costs £100 but I want badly and clothes! And I want a video monitor this time so we can keep an eye wherever we are in the house! Bottles and clothes....

Hope I've not forgotten anything- bar a bigger house!

ThistletoeAndWine · 29/12/2013 16:16

I already have my pram, steriliser, bottles, dummies, muslins, baby grows, vest, bibs, outdoor coats, blankets,
Changing bag!

Need to get nappies and wipes - who recommends what?

Need to paint nursery and buy furniture and cotbe/mattress

bluestone85 · 29/12/2013 16:21

great, thanks dobe :)

MrsFooCough · 29/12/2013 16:41

Bloody hell you lot, you're so well prepared! Our neighbours who have a gorgeous 7mth DD have given us a gorgeous Moses basket crib thing that rocks gently, all new bedding and sheets too which was so kind! Also a sort of rubbery foam baby seat for plonking DC in when he/she's a bit older and wants to sit up but struggles maybe, a rainforest themed bouncing recliner thing with lights etc, and they mentioned getting rid of their car seat in a few months when she's outgrown it? They're super generous Xmas Smile and they threw a mean Christmas party with awesome music and nibbles back on the 21st! I wish we'd been able to do that, but our place is CHAOS. I've basically got no clue what to buy and when, so I reckon I'll be checking out the sales online now and trying to grab essentials at knock-down prices, eh?!

Ooh forgot to mention, we have a family tradition pram? It was my mum's, then mine, and it's a Silver Cross coach built one, like the prams you see Edwardian nannies in films/TV pushing around. I'm thinking that and a not-too-expensive travel system maybe? Might we even be able to get away with just that and a car seat? No, we'd need to take the LO out of the car at the other end of the journey HAHAHAHA. Ohh brain fails. You make me laugh/cry

Does anybody know if kiddie care has a payment option?

mrsmummytobe · 29/12/2013 17:41

Hi ladies, nice catching up on the chat! Wow everyone's buying loads! We've made a spreadsheet of everything to buy for the baby so we're working our way through it. My parents have very kindly offered to get us a pram, & we've bought a Moses basket, stand & a few more smaller items in the mamas & papas sale. Tomorrow I'm going shopping with my mum to check out the sales at Jojo maman bebe, little white company & mothercare :) Love all this baby buying! Hope everyone's well & enjoying time off work if you have it!

loopylou52 · 29/12/2013 20:13

Aw, all this shopping talk is so exciting! We had a big Mamas and Papas splurge online last night and ordered our furniture set (though delayed delivery till end Feb), moses basket and stand, changing matt, cot mobile and a couple of sale babygrows. Also, dh felt the baby kick for the first time yesterday morning so it was an exciting day all round on the baby front! We've also made good progress on clearing out the room that will become the nursery. It's all starting to feel a lot more real now!

moominleigh94 · 29/12/2013 20:15

I'm in shock. read earlier about a crash on the road we take from my house to where we live for uni, we were meant to be traveling back today but decided to go tomorrow instead. there was a crash on the road and we had one of those 'we had a lucky escape' moments... turns out the girl killed in the crash was at school with me, I was small for my age in primary and she and her friend used to look out for me at school when they were a few years above. she used to read to my mum :( just shocked. why is life so fickle? one minute it's there and the next it isn't. we have to drive past it tomorrow :( she was so young, only a few years older than me, but she was so lovely.

moominleigh94 · 29/12/2013 20:16

sorry... I don't mean to bring down all the happy buying talk... just need somewhere to put my feelings down I suppose :(

loopylou52 · 29/12/2013 22:43

That's awful moomin, things like that are so scary Thanks

rebeccax2 · 29/12/2013 22:48

Scary stuff moomin - the poor family.

I'm overwhelmed with the buying of things! I have a spreadsheet with budgets and links and all sorts of things but I'm too much of a wimp to hit 'buy now' on the websites!

Squiffie · 30/12/2013 01:20

Sorry to hear the tragic news moomin Sad

I've bought a second hand stretchy sling and a couple of cardigans totalling about £20 if that!

I don't actually need to buy anything else as I'm planning on Breastfeeding and co-sleeping, have neutral newborn clothes and cloth nappies from previous children as well as a pram and cot for when they're older.

ThistletoeAndWine · 30/12/2013 05:36

Last day at work today until the 15th January!!!!GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

hobbjobb · 30/12/2013 08:52

Morning!

Sorry to hear that moomin. Having lost someone very close to me at a young age, I think the best thing when faced with death is to make sure you live your life fully and don't let opportunities for happiness pass you by. It is sobering when death interrupts your life but you can use the grief to a positive effect if you choose to.

On a different (and less positive) note! I've had to take the day off sick as have the Xmas lurgie, just a cold but I feel awful and it's gone to my chest. It really sucks that we can't take anything except paracetamol, I am normally a great fan of dosing up on as a much as possible!
So I'm camped out on the sofa with my cats and shall be staying here for the foreseeable future

ThePollyAndTheIvy · 30/12/2013 08:58

Sorry everyone, need to vent.

Got my 20wk scan on Thurs but DH is struggling to get the time off work. Been calling ultrasound dept since way before Christmas to change and no available appts. DH keeping trying to get time off but still no luck. Just called and the receptionist couldn't get me off the phone quick enough, told me very abruptly that they have no appointments in the next couple if days, totally fully booked, all in a tone of 'you stupid woman what are the chances of a cancellation?!' And as I dared ask her if she was able to note my number down and call me if anything became free, she told me no she shouldn't do that and pretty much hung up on me. She was so short Hmm

For various reasons I don't want to go with mum/dad/friends etc and I'd rather not go alone either but short of that I've run out it ideas! WWYD?

dobedobedo · 30/12/2013 11:28

thepolly if I were you and I absolutely couldn't do anything about dh getting time off work, I'd probably go alone and just take lots of pics and record a wee video of the scan on my phone if I could.
Can't he explain to his employers that it's a big deal and he has to go?

bluestone85 · 30/12/2013 11:54

So sorry to hear your news moomin Thanks

polly According to advice guide for citizens website it says ' There is no legal right for fathers to have time off work to attend ante-natal appointments. However, the Government recommends that employers allow fathers either to take paid time off, or to make up lost time later' so surely he could at least ask for time off and make it up?
