mrsb I am 25 July dd ...never worked out how to add me self to the list though...!

Everyone at work knows now. Our team is being decimated as 3 off on mat leave in April, may and June, and two people just resigned too. My poor boss, no wonder he congratulated me through gritted teeth. Put a bit of a dampner on the news!

Feeling v v v sick today but unable to be...grrr nothing seems to help but a lie down, fat chance of that until the terrorist DS1 goes to sleep...

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 16/01/2014 19:26

I lulled myself into a false sense of security over the last couple of days and thought I was over the worst - sadly the first thing I did after my horrendous sardine tin commute home was rush to the bathroom and puke :(

That'll teach me :)

I might start wearing my 'baby on board' badge too just to see if it discourages my fellow commuters from elbowing me in the ribs. Feel a bit of a fraud when not really showing yet though.

oo00PIXIE00oo · 16/01/2014 19:30

Had my scan today and all good though still have to wait foe the results from the downs blood test - I am officially 13+5 so due date brought forward to July 19th.

Baby was in the wrong position for measurements and and had to cough a couple of times to make him/her movement - almost wet myself laughing at the sight on the screen it was like watching a toddler on a bouncy castle :) :)

AuntieMaggie · 16/01/2014 19:50

pixie during my scan I was asked to shake my belly which prompted a fit of giggles as I imagined myself doing the truffle shuffle!

AuntieMaggie · 16/01/2014 19:55

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday I want one for that reason but think they would be better if it said something like "back off and give me some f**king space" but then I'm grumpy after the past month or so of people crowding me, bumping into me, etc as I hobble around on my injured ankle... I did consider borrowing a crutch to accidently jab people with...

jaykay987 · 16/01/2014 20:02

coco (and anyone else who is interested). Today's consultant appointment was good.

I read my letter last night which was good as I had forgotten I needed to take a sample with me.

When I got there, I met with a mw, who took my blood pressure, tested my wee for sugars and I heard the heartbeat - I wasn't expecting that! GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

She was asking generally how I'm feeling etc. she filled in a page on my notes and then went to update the consultant in the next room (which seemed to take forever)!

I then went to see consultant. He explained that had been referred due to high bmi and thyroid problems (which I knew). He explained high bmi leads to a higher risk of diabetes (which I knew) and therefore I would need the GTT at 28weeks (which I knew). He asked about my medical history. Due to my weight, and my history with my back, he has referred me for an anethatist appointment at the hospital. So they can look at my MRI and weight distribution on my back and work out whether I can have an epidural or not (second mw in the room explained that it's easier for them to do this assessment before I am in labour, as I may be a wriggling mess by them). I'm actually hoping I won't have to have one, but this seemed irrelevant today.
He also asked that I get booked in for 34week growth scan (as apparently bump measurements can be inaccurate if there's a lot of "you" affecting the tape measure) (fairly comically phrased I thought! Grin). this will be followed by my second consultant appointment. (I presume to assess the results of the ultrasound).

He offered to answer any questions. Sent me for a blood test (to check my thyroid medication).

And that was it.

I guess it'll vary depending on why you have referred, but it was fairly straight forward.

I have my 16week mw appointment next week. No idea why - as I presume that'll be exactly the same as the pre appointment I had with a mw today.

jaykay987 · 16/01/2014 20:02

Sorry for the essay!

MrsA2 · 16/01/2014 20:14

Glad it went well Jaykay.

I'm SO tired tonight I just feel like crying, pathetic. Think I've overdone it this week.

16 week midwife appointment tomorrow - and best of all it means I get an extra 45 mins in bed. Speaking of bed, might head up now...!

MrsB2013 · 16/01/2014 20:26

Great news on the scans ladies!

Jaykay glad your appointment went well

Coco are you going to be asking for a C-section for non medical reasons? I'm going to ask for one, there's so much about natural birth that scares me and the amount of interventions Confused I really don't want to end up needing forceps or ventouse :(

OP posts:
kim222 · 16/01/2014 20:27

Elliejjtiny, did they spot cleft at 20 weeks scan? We didn't find out until dd was born. Bit of a shock! Are you having any more scans with this pregnancy to look for cleft? My dd palate repair has been confirmed for Feb! Scared!

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 16/01/2014 21:06

I have got up off my lazy backside and come upstairs to post using the computer instead of using my phone as usual! Unfortunately I have left the massive box of chocolates downstairs. Grin

Nice to hear that the scans went well today Fox, MrsKate and Pixie (sorry if I have I missed anyone) and that consultant was OK Jaykay.

Thanks to MrsB for the list update. Have you seen the consultant midwife yet about requesting a c-section for non-medical reasons?

coco808 · 16/01/2014 21:22

awww jaykay that must have been so cool! Thank you for the detailed post. I know what to expect now.

ellie I'm still at my old practice in French Weir, taunton, since I live in the middle of nowhere now (literally) and getting into taunton is a bit easier than wellington. Smile good luck with your scan tomorrow...i hope they are not running late!

MrsB im definitely asking for a C section despite getting a lot of stick for it on MN (other threads) as I am petrified of forceps or ventouse. I am going to ask the consultant and I know he will probably say no. It's going to be a long battle but I'm not going to give up trying till the moment I actually have to push. What are your plans?

LaDay · 16/01/2014 22:00

coco I am not one to judge these things but as someone who was delivered by forceps myself I am wondering what is so scary?

fifi669 · 16/01/2014 22:03

I'm asking for a c section, had a horrible experience first time round and I refuse to risk repeating it!

DaisyBank82 · 16/01/2014 22:04

Congrats fox, mrskate and pixie on your scans today! I also had our scan today and the pickle was wriggling about so much it took forever to get the measurements. I had to cough and jiggle and was desperate for the loo throughout. It was brilliant to see it is really there and I haven't been I imagining it. Got to wait for Down's test results (in fact have to have blood done tomorrow for various reasons) but do feel reassured - hopefully not overly so. I'm 12+2 and dd has changed by a day so I'm now 29th July :)

NancyinCali · 16/01/2014 22:13

For those of you worried about the birth and labour or suffering from pregnancy anxiety (like me!) you might find relaxation/meditation helpful.

I'm going to start listening to mine now actually as it really helped me both during pregnancy and in labour with DD1. Mine is the Marie Mongan (sp?) hypnobirthing one but there are lots of others and not just birth related, anything that helps you relax would be good. I've been a ball of anxiety lately so I'm hoping it'll help me even this early on. I used to fall asleep to it most nights!

Even with a planned c-section I think it could be helpful to have the breathing and relaxation techniques on hand for early labour and during the procedure.

This isn't me dissuading you from following your instincts for a c-section - it's absolutely your right to choose and you'll never get any stick from me for that. I'm just a firm believer (I was a sceptic before DD) in the power of your mind being able to help overcome fears. I think I may be starting to sound like a Californian hippy so I'm going to shut up now...

NancyinCali · 16/01/2014 22:15

Oh and am the only one who's little munchkin didn't so much as move a muscle during the 12 week scan? None of this wriggling business for us! Hope she gives us a bit more of a wriggle at the next one (and yes I googled the fact she didn't move, told you I was a ball of anxiety at the moment).

DaisyBank82 · 16/01/2014 22:30

Nancy we had to leave for a bit and go back later because it was moving too much to measure properly. When we got back it had settled down into a still but bot right position but after much poking but not much movement at all from the plum the sonographer just about got what she needed (she was quite huffy actually and I wondered if its be I'm overweight which I was worried would make it harder to see but it was quite clear). I'm sure your google search told you what we will all say which is that it's totally fine.

MrsB2013 · 16/01/2014 22:40

Foxtrot I have my appointment next Fri. Not sure if she has any say in it, but I can always ask to be referred to the right person.

Coco I'm the same, any kind of instruments scare me, I'm scared of tearing or having to be cut, everything to do with it. I keep waking up in the night in a panic of how on earth I'll cope if they refuse C-section. I will keep pushing for one, even if I have to go to a different hospital. I know a lot of people don't agree with it for non medical reasons, but we all have different levels of fear. I've put off having a baby until now because of my fears, but I'm not getting any younger!! Also have been told about the NICE guidelines, that you can ask for one for non medical reasons. If I knew the baby would just pop out without any problems, I'd be fine lol PM me if you want to.

Nancy I think I have a lazy one, it only kicked its legs when she poked my belly a bit hard lol

Sorry for the long post

elliejjtiny · 16/01/2014 22:44

kim222 Yes they spotted the cleft at the 20 week scan. I'm glad they did as I could have a good cry and find out what to expect before he was born. He will be having his palate op in March hopefully but we haven't got a date. I'm not sure if I get extra scans but I've been referred to a consultant and "previous baby with cleft lip/palate" has been written on my notes quite a few times so I'm assuming they will keep a closer eye on it. Good luck for your DD's op, the waiting is the worst bit, and the starving as they don't understand.

coco scan is on Monday, not tomorrow but thanks anyway. It looks like I'm going to get a choice of C-section or VBAC, pity I can't give you my C-section offer.

nancy I've got the marie mongan book too. I didn't think of using it to relax during my C-section. It would have probably been a good idea though as I was shaking with nerves. DS2 was always asleep during scans and I would be a nervous wreck every time.

elliejjtiny · 16/01/2014 22:49

There is a thread in pregnancy here about how to request a C-section for non medical reasons which is worth a look.

turnwest · 16/01/2014 22:58

Just wondered if I could help anyone. I ve had two labours now and they ve born been ok, painful but definitely bearable. When I had my first I got told lots of horror but I ve had two good experiences my labours have nt been that bad at all, hope that can reassure anyone who is worried.

I would say though stick to your guns if your want a c section, it's your body and your choice and don't let anyone persuade you otherwise.

turnwest · 16/01/2014 22:59

Sorry for the typos!

Plateofcrumbs · 16/01/2014 23:02

With the slight downer yesterday I didn't get round to saying how absolutely lovely our sonographer was - really great experience. She gave us extra scan pics because our baby was "so photogenic" Grin. In fact everyone at Kings has been brill - maybe because it's a leading fetal research centre so all the staff were researchers, but everyone was just really enthusiastic and knowledgable.

Anyway spoke to a very helpful midwife their today and have decided to go back and see "the prof" next week and give the CVS another go.

Plateofcrumbs · 16/01/2014 23:03

"There", not "their" Shock (policing my own grammar)
