Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
elliejjtiny · 15/01/2014 10:56

ismarah is this your first baby? Just wondering as when I combine appointments together like that the first appointment ends up being late, so I miss my 2nd appointment and have to wait and see if they can squeeze me in later. By then I've got a toddler who is climbing the walls and trying to escape. So after an asthma review and midwife appointment that ended up with me spending 3 hours in the dr surgery I don't do that anymore Smile. But with no other children it would probably be a lot easier, just bring a good book and a drink/snack with you.

ismarah · 15/01/2014 11:06

Ellie Yes, this is our first and only child. As my appointments are not in the same place (!) I'd have to have the scan earlier in the week than the Friday - I just wonder if it would be helpful to have it done before seeing the consultant? Maybe it makes no difference.

jaykay987 · 15/01/2014 12:37

ismarah - are your scans at Frimley? Where's your consultant appointment? Mine is on Thursday - at Farnham hospital.

(Sneakily trying to work out how close we are! Grin )

elliejjtiny · 15/01/2014 13:35

Ah, I understand now [baby brain emoticon]. I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference. When my 20 week scan with DS4 picked up his cleft lip we had to wait for another scan to double check and then wait again to be referred to the consultant who specialised in fetal abnormalities. My consultant (I had one for high bmi) barely mentioned DS4's cleft lip as he had his own specialist who dealt with that.

turnwest · 15/01/2014 13:44

Well I ve had another scan and the baby is fine, they can't explain why I ve had more bleeding, just one of those things. Scary though, baby was wriggling lots though and stretching it's little legs out. A couple of women in EPU were obviously very distressed, was nt a nice experience despite my good news, felt so sorry for those other women. Hope I don't have to ever go back.

ismarah · 15/01/2014 13:48

Jaykay Consultant at Frimley, scans in Aldershot. So I'd guess very near!

ismarah · 15/01/2014 13:49

Thanks Ellie

coco808 · 15/01/2014 17:12

Thanks JayKay would be very helpful to know what to prepare

Ellie I don't know which consultant I have...I hope it is not the one who has had a caution from GMC. I am hoping to ask for a C section from the consultant. Have you had one? Did you think the consultants were pro or against C sections? Thank you Smile

Howly · 15/01/2014 17:41

Talking about locations; I'm moving to Chester in May, currently I have never been there and have no family/friends there!

Anyone from the area recommend any bump and baby/ ante natal groups where I can make some friends!?!

Plateofcrumbs · 15/01/2014 18:11

Had scan today - results not as great as hoped. I'm officially high risk for a variety of chromosomal abnormalities - not terrifyingly high risk, just on the wrong side of 1 in 100.

The hospital I'm at are actually now offering Harmony tests on NHS as a trial, but unfortunately one of the abnormalities I'm high risk for is not picked up on Harmony. So agreed to CVS which they could do that afternoon - got briefed, on the table waiting for needle and they decided they couldn't do it as the large cysts I've got aren't leaving them with a clear access route to placenta.

I now have a choice of going in again next week for them to try CVS again (the person who would be doing it then is THE main man in the country on this so is as good a chance as I'd get) or waiting for an amino at 16 weeks.

Decisions decisions! Off to post in antenatal tests forum for advice!

ellentullo · 15/01/2014 18:11

Been assessing the belly on a daily basis. So far, evening = bump, morning = definitely not, which was a little disappointing. BUT, went shopping today (for a dressing gown - incidentally, really difficult to find anything not pink and fluffy, which is annoying) and the full-length mirror did not lie! Its small but its there. Quite pleased now

MrsA2 · 15/01/2014 18:20

Plate I don't have any useful advice for you (I'm sure the tests forum will though) but just wanted to say sorry your scan wasn't as smooth as hoped, thinking of you.

I don't know details but would it be worth trying for CVS again next week and then if they can't do it at least you can still wait for amnio?

Plateofcrumbs · 15/01/2014 18:41

Thanks mrsA2 - I'm thankful I'm in pretty much the best possible place for these kind of tests (Kings in London) and the stats, though officially high risk, are not that bad really. Just a bit of a blow.

ellentullo · 15/01/2014 18:45

Plate - sorry. I think we posted almost the same time so yours wasnt on screen when I started. Otherwise would have said something more sensitive. 99/100 chance all will be ok sounds better than 1/100 that it wont, I think

MrsA2 · 15/01/2014 18:47

That's great you are in such a good hospital plate.

Have you read Expecting Better? There's a chapter on testing that I think you will find very helpful. The author concludes that CVS is as safe as amnio but just comes out higher risk because it is normally done earlier when the miscarriage risk on its own is a little higher anyway.

Hope you get some good advice either way. If your odds are just inside 1:100 that is a massive, massive likelihood of everything being fine.

AhoyMcCoy · 15/01/2014 18:59

Plate no useful advice at all I'm afraid, but

As you've said, Kings is the best place to be with some much knowledge and experience, and your odds are still in your favour.

Plateofcrumbs · 15/01/2014 19:00

No worries ellen! Exactly - in NHS terms it's high risk, but for me as an individual the odds are still massively in my favour.

My dad had a heart op a few years back which I think had a 1 in 50 chance of a fatal outcome. As I kept telling him at the time: if a horse had a 49 in 50 chance of winning a race, you'd bet your life savings on it (the day he was in surgery was still one of the worst days of my life mind you!)

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 15/01/2014 19:13

Just checking in to support plate. As you say, at least you're at a great hospital with experienced HCPs. I'll be thinking of you. Agree with the others that 99/100 chance of all being fine should be reassuring but completely understand nervousness. Fingers crossed for you!

jaykay987 · 15/01/2014 20:10

Sending good vibes plate

MrsB2013 · 15/01/2014 20:14

SmallOlympianBear, Tent and Liquid I'm also in Berks!! PM me where abouts you all are and maybe we can arrange to meet up at some point. Will you be going to the RBH?

Plate Sorry to hear your scan didn't go as well as planned. I would go back for another attempt at cvs. Do you know which abnormalities your high risk for? As others have said, the odds are in your favour

coco808 · 15/01/2014 20:18

oh plate stay amazingly positive like this and everything will be Ok...fingers crossed. I actually studied at King's and can say I would trust them with my life!
All the best...keep us posted

elliejjtiny · 15/01/2014 20:19

Sending you an unmumsnetty hug plate. The odds sound really scary but remember they are still low.

coco I didn't know one of them had had a caution from the GMC. Yes, I had a C-section with DS4. It was decided fairly late on though because he was lying in the wrong position so I didn't have to persuade anyone. I know Mr Macauley specialises in VBAC's but that doesn't mean he is anti C-section. No idea about the others. Good luck with the appointment.

I've got my booking in appointment tomorrow finally. I'm a bit nervous even though I've done it so many times.

elliejjtiny · 15/01/2014 20:25

Yikes, coco I've just googled and the consultant who got the caution was the consultant who did my C-section! She was DS4's consultant from 20 weeks until the end as well.

theborrower · 15/01/2014 20:29

Hi again, sorry I've not managed to read all the posts since I last wrote. How's everyone doing?

I was also going to ask how people's bumps are doing - I feel soooooo enormous already, and I'm not even 16 weeks yet (Friday)! I'm definitely bigger in the evening but seriously, I look about 6 months gone. Is it because my tummy muscles are non existent since having my daughter 3 years ago? I'm worried I'm going to put on too much weight :-(

Plateofcrumbs · 15/01/2014 20:32

Thanks everyone! I won't tell anyone about the unmumsnetty behaviour Wink

Thinking of going for another stab (poor choice of phrasing, that) at the CVS just to meet Prof Nicolaides who invented the ruddy test no less. Practically a rockstar. If he can't wrangle a route to my placenta then no-one can!
