Hi everyone, is it ok to join in? Jabberwocky told me about the antenatal groups over on Pregnancy, I'm a bit late, but...
This is my second pregnancy, I'm an older Mum, and already have a dd (2.7). My scan last week went really well (apart from some placenta worries), and its another girl - its definitely our last child, so I had mixed feelings: happy and thrilled for dd to have a sister, and also disappointed not to ever experience parenting a boy. So AccQueen, I can relate
Oh - and my due date is 8th December.
Can't believe I hadn't spotted the antenatal clubs heading - am definitely a p/t MNer!

Elibean · 29/07/2006 18:51

Should be a comma after 'happy': I am, not just for dd

Calmriver · 29/07/2006 19:09

I think mine is another DD.xxWill let you know after scan on 7th.x

accessorizequeen · 29/07/2006 19:34

Welcome Elibean, I'm glad I'm not the only one feels this way, felt v.guilty & DP just piled it on saying I should just be pleased baby's healthy and look at how gorgeous ds is etc. Yes, I know all of that but can't help thinking what if? Would have liked the chance to mother a little girl & now I never will unless I decide to have more & really don't see how we can given age & finances(my age, dp's finances!).Anyway, sorry if being insensitive to you Magnolia with 4 dd's! And I think after 2 of the same sex you are more like to keep on having them aren't you? I love boys, I really don't know any toddler girls & wouldn't know what to say to one they seem like a different species when you deal with diggers & motorbikes all day! Baby kicking me right now as if to say 'oi, aren't I wanted?'! Course he is, hope I get a redhead (like me) this time!

Hi everyone, Welcome elibean - we share the same due date!! AQ congrats on the scan, i sympathise with u on the baby's sex although im so excited to be having a boy im pathetic and was looking forward to doing its hair if it was a girl. So stupid but I suppose i can be irrational when pregnant!

I saw the baby move for the first time last night it quite freaked me out as its my first and i wasn't expecting it to happen yet. Is that a terrible thing to say? Its a very strange feeling!!

Hope everyone is well apart from the rhinitis which sounds awful for you! x

Devongirl · 30/07/2006 17:33

Hey all

Welcome Elibean! Better late than never!

I am in a very strange situation here - for once I am wide awake on a Sunday afternoon, but DH has gone to bed! Complete role reversal, weird. I don't know what to do with myself, just been for a nice walk and cleaned the house up, tum ti tum, what next!

Had to have my wedding ring cut off my finger yesterday because of swollen joints - how sad is that? Only been married since March!

On a different subject, any of you who are already mums used real nappies? Any views on best ones, ones to avoid etc? I am determined to avoid disposables.

Ta

Evening all. Went shopping today and failed completely to buy any part of wedding outfit (wedding in 3 wks). think I shall have to seek advice from mumsnet style shop which has had me in stitches this week. However, bought heap of every day stuff from H&M, excellent. Tried and failed to buy baby boy clothes for ds2, clearly I'm out of the habit. Completely over wanting him to be a girl now (Nothing like shoppping to sort this kind of thing out).
devon, don't use cloth nappies as yet (feel I have failed) but v.interested & there are loads of discussions in the nappy section of the site.Plus there's a section in reviews. Really trying to persuade myself to do it for ds2, as I am ashamed of no of disposables I have thrown in bin plus cloth nappies are v.cute! Magnolia, don't you use them, thought you had popped up somewhere?

Elibean · 31/07/2006 09:09

Thanks for the welcomes!
Its going to take me a while (pregnancy befuddled head that I have) to catch up with you all, and your news, but its nice to be here.
I'm also going to brave real nappies this time (with disposables for outings, at least to start with) and have been scouring nappy thread for ideas. A friend put me on to www.kittykins.co.uk who have a short interactive quiz bit to help you decide which sort and how many you might need, found it quite helpful. She also told me that velcro wraps hurt her LOs tummies, and she preferred poppers.
I'm still at the stage where I don't know my wraps from my prefolds, so its nice to find other nappy-virgins to hang out with...
AQ, congrats on upcoming wedding - exciting!

Loulou000 · 31/07/2006 12:12

Hi AQ, so glad the scan was fine but what a shame the scanner was not more helpful. And don't be ashamed that you felt disappointed it was a boy. There's nothing wrong with wanting to have a girl and I'm sure you will love your new boy to bits anyway!

You could always pay for an extra scan if you'd like to get a better view?

Is it your own wedding you're going to??

Boys' names do seem much harder. I have lots of girls ideas but not many boys so far.

Oh yeah, I'd love to get the lowdown on real nappies too, really don't want to use disposables but how much of a nightmare is it really?

Morningnewspaper · 31/07/2006 12:55

Brilliant news on the baby boy AQ and yes I do understand where you are coming from. I too have no ideas for boys names! It's such a shame that the sonographer was so unfriendly - it's meant to be such a special time as well as a medical check. Have you considered having a 3D/4D scan? We thought we might go for that week 28-32 ish I think it is. It's private but it's 'your' time with your baby!

SRM · 31/07/2006 13:29

Hi - bulge becoming more bump like and I want a triangle wedge pillow to prop under it in bed!!! Anyone know where I can find one?? Thanks!

Devongirl · 31/07/2006 14:15

Hi

I just bought this pillow and it's great, really comfy and not too big so it just fits under nicely - and the fact that it's double sided means you can turn over without having to worry about tucking a pillow under each side!

nice pillow

accessorizequeen · 31/07/2006 14:47

Hi all. No, I'm not getting married, goodness me no, only engaged for forever...Two friends having a do, must look stylish & suddenly large bump has appeared, where did that come from?
Did think of getting another scan, but find the 3d ones a bit on the scary side plus they cost a bomb & trying to keep the costs down. I think it it were my first I might have done it though, I was so keen to see him! You must tell us if and when you go morningnewspaper. Have come up with a few boys' names, we've decided to go for scottish theme as ds1 & dp's names both celtic & my dad lives there. Did y'all see threads on boys names here and here ?
Mothersbliss.com do selection of pillows too I think, useful place to buy a few things as they do those bravado bras etc.
I think we should pledge to do the real nappy thing! I'm thinking of trying some out on ds1, so I can get to grips with it before newborn chaos. There was thread elsewhere where someone estimated using them (with 2 children) had saved them £1800 over 5 years!! That's good enough for me! Good environmental alternative would be buy those semi-disposable ones e.g. Nature's boy & a wormery, there was huge discussion on this a few months ago, I'll dig it out.

Another thought about real nappies is that some councils will subsidise you if you buy them (tho sadly not mine...). The nappy lady lists all the councils I think with links.
I figured if I bought 20, hated them & gave up, could get quite a lot of the money back on ebay as they go for good prices on there. And I do think the wraps are so much cuter than huggies or pampers e.g. leopard print or bright red . You can tell I've been researching this for some time now...

Oh Elibean, I have the same date too, looks like it will be a race between you, me and Choccybickie

higginpiggin · 31/07/2006 15:14

Hello everybody!
Been away for a while but back in action now. Kicking getting quite vigorous which is good as I was a bit concerned before.
On the reusable nappy front - my SIL lives in Dorset and they use a nappy service which collects, cleans and delivers every week for about £10 or less. I think this sound's pretty good but can't find anything like it where I am. Does anyone know of any websites? Apologies if this has already been covered - have had pregnancy head for a while now.

Loulou000 · 31/07/2006 15:47

You can search for your area here

Ooh blimey, why can't I just type the link in html...?

beepbeep · 31/07/2006 15:49

Hi all, having a nightmare, despite trying to keep wedding VERY small, is becoming bit of a nightmare - what the hell do I wear?!?!?!

Also still not been given a date for moving into new house, despite having moving out date for ours - come 24th August we could be homeless!!

However, onto more serious issues one of the magazines has a feature on cotton nappies, apparently there are pre-folded or shaped, the top ones in pre-folded they have as

  1. 'cotton bottoms' from tommee tippee (i think)
  2. bambino mio (mio soft)
  3. nappy nation (stay dry terry pre-fold)

In shaped they have;
1.mother-ease one size from earthlets
2. kushies classic
3. modern baby (from modern baby)

not sure if this helps anyone, we are also thinking of going this route and haven't really got a clue!

Devongirl · 31/07/2006 16:44

I think we should all do it, and try different ones, then write the most useful guide to real nappies the world has ever seen!

I am definitely going to find one that works, even if I have to try all of them, before I go near a disposable!

Loulou000 · 31/07/2006 16:51

I have been reading all the advice on different kinds of nappy here and it is all a LITTLE bit clearer now.

nappies

Calmriver · 31/07/2006 17:15

Typical that its me asking, but are you all still okay with sex and are there any good recommendations for positions?I can't lie on my back anymore, get really bad ache the next day!

Come on girls, don't hold back now! We're probably all wondering..

Calmriver · 31/07/2006 21:07

Now everyone hides????

Morningnewspaper · 31/07/2006 21:30

Oh thank goodness - I started a sex thread wondering if I was a complete banana but now you mention it.........it's not been going terribly well lately AT ALL! Someone suggested I may have thrush as I have a stinging burning sensation on penetration (sorry). I am also wondering if I've gone off it a bit - I do sometimes feel what with the baby and my bladder, there isn't an awful lot more room....!
