spinamum, I really don't know why I am worrying, have had contractions today for the 3rd time this pregnancy, am beginning to think it will take a miracle for me to go term let alone overdue!

Please think of me, am still a week away from the 24 week cut off, so no drugs to help them stop still!

Report
spinamum · 27/08/2006 07:52

Weidbird's Bean.....Stay put til Mummy wants you to pop out and stop vibrating your room with these contraction things.

WB, i am thinking of you.

Right no more talk of bringing baby on! Let's focus on mid preg woes. (we can always read the august/sept ante natel threads if we need our fix of overdue stories!)

Anyone know if it's ok to drink tonic water in pg? Not silly ammounts, just as an alternative to elderflower or plain water when I'm out and about with my hectic social life[dellusional emoticon]

Weirdbird, sending relaxed-uterus thoughts your way....I hope they eased off fast, and you got some rest. Sounds scary.

Tonic...I think so, I hope so, because wasn't that was everyone was recommending for restless legs? Still haven't got around to buying any, but am hoping to!

Olihan, am already having to do a lot more than Wheetabix think it may have to be a double dose of Lactulose. I had a section with dd, and the painkillers totally did a number on me - I remember that first poo as being a little (I know, only a little) what I imagine giving birth to be like!

Weirdbird, just wanted to add...for encouragement's sake...my best pal had contractions from about 20 weeks onwards with her second pregnancy, and went overdue. Very scary for her at times, but she had a positive outcome - wishing you teh same (without actually being overdue, of course )

wb, I was having quite a few braxton hicks the other night and it was unnerving. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Also, I read that touching your tummy can bring them on (which I do all the time!) so maybe just mentally caress your lo for a bit

Contractions have stopped again, Thank God

This is the 3rd lot now and am still a week off the 24 weeks when they will administer the steroids and try and help them stop with drugs. I know they have to have a cut off point somewhere, but being so close and knowing they wont do anything till next week, GAH the frustration. Though at least I see the Consultant on Tuesday and will be able to ask more questions.

Thank you Elibean, I went into premature labour last time as well, but not till 30 weeks, so was a LOT less scary! But I did have contractions on and off till the end then as well, and I also still went overdue! I wasn't overly impressed I can tell you...

wb, I had early contractions with ds. Even though I was 30 weeks along they were reluctant to use drugs to stop them. I wound up with just IV fluids, which did work. Even though I was drinking water like crazy, it was the IV that did it for some reason. If you are really concerned you can go in and forcefully request that they at least give that a try.

Where is everyone?

I was just about to post the same thing! MN has been really quiet the last couple of days.

Olihan · 28/08/2006 22:42

Surely the point of a bank holiday weekend is so that someone else has the kids and we can surf MN in peace?

Oooooooohhhh, jabber, you're in the US aren't you? So no bank holiday for you. How are you anyway?

I wondered if there was something going on

Things going pretty well here. Some insomnia lately and lower backache, though. How about you?

Report
Olihan · 28/08/2006 22:51

Pretty good really, thanks. Bit shattered but that's dd and ds for you!! Had dd's 1st b'day last week so have just finished sorting out all the chaos from a houseful of visitors, party, etc. Haven't had any back ache yet but am getting shooting pains up and down the back of my thighs and down my inner thighs so I'm wondering about sciatica or SPD. Didn't have SPD either time before but I think my poor body's had a real battering from 3 pgs in 3 years, I suppose some extra niggles are inevitable!!

Report
jabberwocky · 28/08/2006 22:54

Wow, 3 in 3 years! I stand in awe...

there are some threads on spd around. Certain pilates movements can help I think. errr, like you probably have time for that!

I suspected I might have a mild form last time but so far, so good this time

Olihan · 28/08/2006 23:00

I'm hoping it's just too much charging around. I've been really lucky so far to have got away with relatively few problems in my pgs so I'm also hoping this will be the same. Will have a look at those threads though - at some point!!

Nice chatting to you tonight. Have to go to bed now, DH is huffing and looking pointedly at the clock - he's got to get up for work in the morning. Bless!! Catch up another day!

castlesintheair · 29/08/2006 09:25

Morning everybody! Well, my complaints are as follows:
Cramp in legs waking me up at night (am scoffing bananas and increasing water intake - any other suggestions?)
Braxton hicks contractions, baby very high 'cos breech & weird uterus so quite uncomfortable esp. when bending over and been sick a few times! At the back of my mind is my SIL who had my neice at 24 weeks this time last year and I had false (early) labour with my DS. Trying not to panic!
Could be moving in a couple of weeks but hopefully not on the same day as DS starting school & DD nursery
Generally knackered but, hey, what's new?!

Everything else is grand. Hope you all had a good bank holiday weekend and are feeling well. Any complaints - please share

Report
Elibean · 29/08/2006 10:11

Castles, try standing on a really cold surface (tin trays recommended, apparently!) when you get the cramp - I remember a woman suffering badly with them in my antenatal group, and she reported back that it worked immediately. Does wake you up thoroughly, though...

Calmriver started a new 'third trimester' thread yesterday, looks like a couple of us were posting there while a copule of us were posting here

No real complaints here, just tired and heartburny, and feeling overwhelmed more easily - was supposed to go to Norfolk to see friends this coming weekend, but not sure I want to pack us all up, travel 3.5 hours and stay in a cream-carpeted house full of pretty, breakable things with an almost-potty-trained 2.8 yr old Am I being a wuss??

Report
Gloria42 · 29/08/2006 10:23

Cold surfaces definitely work for cramps, I use my back step (don't want to scare the neighbours with me in pyjamas )
Had midwife check-up yesterday, all good except for slightly elevated sugar levels. I'm thinking that half a tub of Strawberry Cheesecake Haagen Daas the night before probably contributed to this!
Haven't had any cravings but think I will create one - that icecream is to die for!!!!

Hello everyone and hope you had a restful long weekend.

Argh! Hadn't thought about the Christmas "how to get a taxi" scenario. The mind boggles. Presumably you can call an ambulance if you get to the point of giving birth on the street...?

Report
Morningnewspaper · 29/08/2006 12:55

Oh don't!! - I'm going to have a list of all the taxis in the area and beyond and get DH to phone them all!

I reckon there will be loads of taxis - but yes, an ambulance will do just as well. Either that or the night bus

Oh... I didn't realise the new thread was really a continuation of this one. I'll hop on over there then.

Hullo

I'm new to posting on the site but I have been reading for a while. Can I join you? I am due to have my first child (boy) on December 1st. I currently resemble a rotund elephant much to the amusement of my collegues.
