Have not read whole thread, but I was due 27th Dec last year and had the whole xmas discussion worrying me for weeks! Will it be here before etc
I reallyyyyyyyyyy wanted baby for xmas, but sorry to put downers on everyone but dd did not arrive until 9th January 14 days late after induction! and I know at least 5 others with same due date as mine who went over due!! So my advice would be to enjoy your xmas as much as you can, buy the turkey etc, but get someone else to cook! I had parents over, and if dd was here they could cook and if I was in hospital they could look after dp and dog!!Actually am glad
she wqas born January now cos dd can enjoy first xmas much more alert and has birthday after xmas rather than before which I think can be a pain! Good luck to you all. really really hope you do not go overdue thought xx

lilymolly · 25/08/2006 11:53

Forgot to say- for you first time mums, enjoy being pregnant!! beleive me the year has gone so fast- dd is now 8mnth, crawling and into everything- very big and clever, but HARD work!!
I think back to last year when I was same as you all and wish I still had bump x

jabberwocky · 25/08/2006 11:53

CR, I may have to invest in a webcam, too!

RE: Boxing Day births, I have to admit that I am glad this one is a scheduled section for more than one reason. Of course, my actual EDD is the 15th so I would have a bit more time, but he should come out around the 4th instead. Which is good since the whole family is coming in for Xmas!! My mother lives two streets over so they will be mostly hanging around at her house (I hope) but still probably at least 4 people will be sleeping -or trying to, lol- at our house.

Loulou000 · 25/08/2006 11:54

Yeah, ideally I wouldn't have baby in the weeks around Christmas at all. But not much to be done about it now! Will try to remember next time not to get pg in March.

Gloria42 · 25/08/2006 11:57

LouLou, it's hard to plan these things when you don't know how long it will take to "strike it lucky"!!!!!

Weird bird, that's what I had thought of doing too!

jabberwocky · 25/08/2006 12:02

I agree. At 41 I felt I had to just jump in and take what came!

wb, I have also heard of half-birthday parties. I think it's a great idea.

Loulou000 · 25/08/2006 12:07

I thought of inventing a summer birthday too. My own is in january and I always wished for a summer one instead. But DP thought it was a mad idea. I will tell him it's a popular idea!

jabberwocky · 25/08/2006 12:18

And summer parties are so easy. Ds's birthday is in August and you don't have to worry about kids running around the house etc. Just have an outdoor water party and let them go crazy.

Elibean · 25/08/2006 14:16

dd was due on Boxing Day, but I had to be induced a few days early (high bp) and she arrived on 22nd...makes it a bit of a non-stop celebration, very overwhelming. We will probably do summer picnic parties for her and her friends when she's older, and just family on the day - and we've also decided to make birthdays the Big Presents Day in our family, and Christmas more about small gifts in stockings, tree, lights, food, fun, family and friends, and giving. Hope we can stick to it
This year...will be glad if we can just remember to do something, anything!!

dd2 is due on 8th, but am likely to need an earlier delivery so might even be end of November....eeek, that means what, 14 weeks max?!?

Loulou000 · 25/08/2006 15:06

Where is the how to bring on the birth thread? Can't find it...

Devongirl · 25/08/2006 18:12

Hee hee have you all seen that there is a May 07 thread? That sounds ridiculously far away making ours seem much closer somehow! AGHGHGGHGHGH!!!

Elibean · 25/08/2006 18:33

DG, !

accessorizequeen · 25/08/2006 21:04

loulou, I'm following this one on bringing on labour

OP posts:
Morningnewspaper · 25/08/2006 22:41

I know - it really isn't that far away at all is it?!?! I'm due on the 9th and mother-in-law is coming from the US on the 22nd. I just hope and pray baby arrives on time and not late - she's SO chatty and I just won't be able to cope!
LouLou - yes I remember - you're going to the EGA and hoping to move house and have had a horrid time of it. It's good to know someone is so close though!!

spinamum · 26/08/2006 08:06

MNP, that's one (of my many reasons) for a earlier actual birth. I've got ILs with us for xmas and I'd rather not be the centre of attention. Can you imagine it? everytime I struggle to get off sofa, the whole room asks me if "the time has come"THAT or everyone ignores the fact or my BIL makes any form of joke about it and boxing Day headline reads "Crazed(overdue) woman beats brother in law to death with a dish of Brussel Sprouts."

I'm loving the summer party idea. I quite like the idea of Xmas Day birthday (it's a talking point!) but as I'm bound to be overdue, I'd much prefer a early Dec date and as I keep saying I'm eager to meet Master Bean.(Once he's baked)

weirdbird · 26/08/2006 11:52

That would so be me with the brussel sprouts and BiL, my BiL loves to tease me and thinks he is soooooo funny [rolls eyes]

I know that if I am still pregnant come Xmas day his usual stupid comments will probably push me over the edge, but I think that if I am still expecting on Xmas day, with both sets of families here, it could be anyone...

My main reason for wanting to be a week or so early is that I want a home birth and I have visions of me sat in the birthing pool, naked and in labour with all the family sat around opening presents on Xmas morning, with the Xmas tree in the corner and my DD trying to come and have a swim with mummy and 10 people all coaching me to "push"

spinamum · 26/08/2006 13:53

LOL

Just make sure you've got the webcab switched on too and we can all join in in the encouragement!

Go weirdbrid!Go!

spinamum · 26/08/2006 13:54

oh my spelling

webcam!

weirdbird!

spinamum · 26/08/2006 14:05

In fact I know most (if not all) pg women want NOT to you over due, but don't you think we should get a special license from whoever hands out actual birth dates to avoid Xmas/family get together/NYE "where the hell will I find a taxi?" scenarios.
I'm already plotting to convince my M/W I'm over due at 38 weeks and see if I can get the Babe rolling.

Gosh,I'm beginning to think I might tempt fate. I'm only 23(or is it 24?) weeks. I'll try to stop obsessing about having a two week old on Xmas day!

Enjoy the weekend(although I'm at home most of it so I'll prob pop back on here) Maybe that's why I'm feeling less energetic this pg. First pg all I did was create nutrious snacks and lie down. This time I spend all my time on here. Then I realise I'm famished and I eat chocolate or crisps

jabberwocky · 26/08/2006 15:59

Does the bringing on labor have the eggplant parmesan link on it? that's supposed to work, although sex did it for me with ds

Olihan · 26/08/2006 16:09

I love all the 'how to bring on labour' threads. I tried every old wives tale going with dd and she was NOT coming out. I guess doing all these things gives you something to do to pass the endless days once you're overdue but that it. I swear it's just luck that baby wanted to arrive just after a hot curry/ long walk/ pineapple/ raspberry leaf tea/ sex/ nipple stimulation/ scrubbing the kitchen floor, etc.

But then, I am very cynical as dd stayed put through 5 sweeps, sex every night (sometimes twice a night), curry, pineapple and raspberry leaf tea every night, nipple stimulation twice a day, maniacal housework and a 2 mile walk every evening for 2 weeks. Mind you, when the induction finally coaxed her out she came extremely quickly!!!

Elibean · 26/08/2006 18:51

Blimey, Olihan, persuasion may not have worked with dd but you must have been ultra fit, ultra healthy, and ultra happy by the time you gave birth

I had an extra hot Thai curry the evening they started my induction, in the hope it would help it along...not only did it not help (ended up with a section) but I ended up feeling mighty full and uncomfortable for, um, days and days...

Olihan · 26/08/2006 22:21

Elibean, I was ultra happy when she fianlly deigned to make her appearance. Of the rest, I was more knackered, aching and downright p*ed off by the time induction day arrived .

But she was worth the wait for sure [soppy emoticon].

Olihan · 26/08/2006 22:22

oh, Weetabix and Fruit and Fibre is my tip for those first few post-birth days. Encourages everything along nicely........

Thomcat · 26/08/2006 22:28

Just saw this in active convos and couldn't resist saying hello, good luck and enjoy and all that jazz.
My DD2 was due Dec 2005 and was born on 19 Dec at home.
My DD1's birthday is 17 Dec and will be 5 a couple of days before DD2 turns 1, so this Dec will be a busy month for us.

Love to you all, TC xx
