Hi all, nothing too exciting to report here, being kept awake with kicks but shouldn't really complain! Am also suddenly SOOOOO hungry, this last couple of weeks it seems I could eat all day.

Softmum (welcome!) I'm interested in the cotton nappies, a friend has been trying them with her little one who is 4 weeks now, but says she is getting leakage from the legs with her but thinks it could be to do with having just a single line of elastic(?!) Which ones did you use and what did you think to them? Seems they're the same as everything else - so much choice and no one to actually tell you which ones are the best. Many thanks x

weirdbird · 21/08/2006 21:04

Ohh I could give you all the biggest HUGEST hug, never had my heart racing last time around and was half convinced I was really ill.

Have felt really off colour this week ever since my trip to Hospital last friday with contractions again, obviously I need to rest lots, but have been really short of breath and combined with my heart racing away, well, I was starting to worry evern more!

Though am still going to see my consultant again as soon as I can.

Hello other Boxing Day people "waves"

Am sure I wasn't this BIG or felt this much movement at this point last time round.

Bump this time seems to have perfect aim for kicking my bits, and sending shock waves...

magnolia1 · 21/08/2006 21:15

Elliebean, yep the wait is a bit stressful but I am sure when the kids go back to school time will go faster
Welcome to the newcomers xxxx

I am at the starving all the time stage and this boy is kicking me every time i sit at the computer!!! Dh thinks he's trying to tell me to get off

bubblylion · 21/08/2006 21:41

Hi just wondering how you tell the difference between hiccups and kicking? I feel repeated movements about 8pm each night but don't know if it's a kick or a hiccup??

Calmriver · 21/08/2006 22:03

Hiccups are normally too regular, ie every second or two and they can go on for 20 mins, kicks I always find/found more irregular

Calmriver · 21/08/2006 22:05

Yes to toilet training!!!

I took DD's pants off today and she weed on the toilet(with a couple of farts which I was also very excited about!!!)

Calmriver · 21/08/2006 22:09

Hi Castleintheair, we are sure going through this together aren't we??? I wonder how many times we will end up doing this!???

Please let me know how all goes for baby tomorrow. Big hugs,x

jabberwocky · 21/08/2006 23:21

good luck on the scan tomorrow, castles.

Weirdbird, I have the shortness of breath thing fairly often. Had it with ds too. I've always just thought it was my lungs being squeezed by the babe, but have no idea if that is true or not.

Gloria42 · 22/08/2006 08:47

This will sound really silly, but what does a kick feel like? I don't think I've had as much movement as you guys. I didn't understand what a "flutter" meant, until it happened so I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

Elibean · 22/08/2006 09:25

Good luck Castles, hope the scan goes well!
Toilet training here too, still prompting most of the time, but with 90% accident-free results..so am encouraged. Fingers crossed for more initiating by the time nursery starts in September.
Sleep is starting to get sporadic here...hows everyone else sleeping?
Gloria, kicks to me at the beginning feel like little flutters or wriggly feelings, then get stronger like teeny soft thumps on the inside, then stronger again...its easy to mistake them for wind at the beginning!
Welcome to all new-to-thread and/or pregnancy ladies...

Elibean · 22/08/2006 09:26

Magnolia, yep, time will start to do weird things as soon as August is over...

Gloria42 · 22/08/2006 09:32

Thanks! This site is great, no question too silly for us first-timers!

beepbeep · 22/08/2006 09:37

Hope scan goes well Castle, will be thinking bout you x

castlesintheair · 22/08/2006 09:46

Oooh, you are all lovely, thank you! Feel really nervous about this scan. I think thing's are getting on top of me - moving house, potty training or should that be carpet cleaning , DD starting nursery and am so worried about DS starting school. Emotional basket-case I know, need to get a grip, MIL is coming up and she will not be amused!

beepbeep · 22/08/2006 10:54

Sod the MIL, it's you and the little ones that are important!!

Loulou000 · 22/08/2006 10:58

Argh, after gloating about my on target weight gain yesterday, thought I'd better check myself on the scales again, and have put on another 7 pounds since last time!! I hope it's all baby and will come out in december!

Yeah, don't worry about the heart racing Weirdbird, seems quite normal.

Morningnewspaper · 22/08/2006 11:27

Morning all - just back from hols and woken rudely in the wee hours by the cat being violently sick. Talking of weight gain - I think I put on a huge amount at the beginning as I stopped smoking a week before I found out I was PG - about 8kg up to 13 weeks PG . I have since put on another 3kg (wk 24).
I have started to get SO excited about having the baby - I feel as if it's the count down now for some reason!

Calmriver - I must ask - how's the sex??

Devongirl · 22/08/2006 12:26

Hi new peeps

Gloria, I was panicking a few weeks ago because everyone else had been feeling kicks and I hadn't, but now am being pummelled on an hourly basis - when the kicks are forwards or upwards they're fine, just like a kind of gentle poke at the moment, but when it's downwards on your cervix it's not so nice, it kind of feels like a smear test - a bit yuck. But it's still nice to feel any movement, very reassuring

x

accessorizequeen · 22/08/2006 12:26

And the sex talk begins again...
Welcome to all newbies, I can't keep up! P'haps time for me to do summary so we can keep track? If you haven't put your details on the stats thread , could you please & then I'll do the summary tonight as DS not here to get out of bed 6 times & bother me (just moved into big bed).

OP posts:
accessorizequeen · 22/08/2006 12:34

And to other business...
Castles, hope the scan goes well & Magnolia hope the time goes quickly!
I had a 'oh my god I'm having another baby' weekend, as bump is really showing now & it's the first week I've found it really hard to bend down, that kind of thing. Plus people cannot miss now that I'm pg (I know the rest of you have been showing for weeks, but I just looked fatter!) and I feel like public property as breasts simply enormous - H cup! Panicked utterly about chances of another section (although I've been told I can try for VBAC). On positive side, I too am potty training (well, not me, ds) and it's going brilliantly to my surprise. Plus moved him into big bed on w/end, so that along with the successful move to new nursery 5 weeks ago is making me feel like I've sorted a few things. And we managed to buy a bigger car on the weekend after 2 months of faffing (me, not dp) & book a long w/end for Sept. But, then, I don't have any problems with my pg nor do I have to oversee renovations or move house in the next few months!

accessorizequeen · 22/08/2006 12:35

sorry, will do stats in a few days - sounds like i@m ordering you all to do it today! I am a bossy aussie , you know!

Elibean · 22/08/2006 13:56

Aha, AQ, 'tis you wot are responsible for that stats thing: was hoping it was going to be bump sizes or height rather than age

Just got back from first OB visit in ages, and much happier. She said the odds of the placenta attaching abnormally were very low, and even if it did "this is a big teaching hospital, its 2006, we'll handle it fine" all with an airy wave of her experienced surgeon's hand. I was getting myself quite scared, but feel lots better - plus bumped into the midwife who helped me most with dd's birth, and she'll be around in December which is lovely. AND my BP is lowest its ever been - probably temporary, but sweet while it lasts.

Now if I could only grab a nap....

softymom · 22/08/2006 14:06

beepbeep: we used the Cotton Bottoms nappies (pre-folds with wraps) - got the birth to potty pack which was pretty good value as it did see us through to 2 years (we bought a few extra wraps and the very useful face/bum cloth packs). We found the flat nappies dried very quickly (the toweline ones like Motherease are easier to put on but take ages to dry without a dryer) and are so useful for mopping up all kinds of spills (even now, when 'potty training').

I found you had to change them every 2-3 hours. Unlike a paper nappy you have to change them, but this helped cut down on the checklist of reasons why the baby might be upset. If your friend is using pre-folds and is getting leaks around the legs they either need to:

  1. put the wrap on more securely (I was scared of stopping the circulation at first, but you can always have a peek to check a red line isn't forming - and toes not going blue!)
  2. move up to a bigger size nappy inside the wrap

I had a lot of problems with leaks at the beginning, but eventually you've changed so many blinking nappies you get the hang of it.

We eventually ignored the weight recommendations on the nappies and wraps. dd was in the Large wraps from 6 months. When her nappy started leaking sooner than I thought I would move her up to the next size nappy.

Also, on the plus side for pre-folds, once they start to poo, and inevitably miss the flushable liner, it really is a lot easier to clean up a smooth prefold than a toweline shaped nappy.

Also - we used a Popolino nappy + wrap (from \link{http://www.borndirect.com/Born} for nights - we needed 3 nappies + wraps to allow for drying time)

Can hear activity upstairs. Better go investigate....

softymom · 22/08/2006 14:10

oh dear - totally messed up that link. So much for my illustrious past in computing!

The correct link is: Born

Carameli · 22/08/2006 14:38

just popping in for a second or two before dd wakes up from her afternoon nap... I am sure that starting to type will tempt fate and she will be up in no time at all now

have not had time to read all msgs for ages so bit out of touch with what happening here.
Spinamum, how is you roof work going, any progress? We have some progress with our neighbours hopefully, wel really with our buyers who still seem keen to proceed with sale. We have also found somewhere to buy so things really speeding up. May even aim to move mid to end Oct. Find it hard to believe right now as I always think something will come along to mess it all up yet again. So keep all my fingers crossed for this to work out.

how are you guys who are potty training getting along. I have been trying again this week with dd(3 in Oct) Only the 2nd day but so far she's been great, only two accidents. It really seems to have clicked this time with her, she now tells me she needs to go to the potty and go straight there herself. Just letting her run around with no knickers on so easy access to the potty and keeping our bedroom door closed(lovely very expensive Persian rug which dh really panics about her doing anything on!!!arrrrggg)

have any of you used one of those portable pottys, was thinking of getting one for using when we go out but no idea if they are any good???
