Keep, I had to have a light on so that I could see what I was doing and didn't drop M into the Moses basket or bash her head getting her out of it! There are no street lights near me and when it's dark, it's really dark. Also, she did a lot of cluster feeding and would feed for at least an hour at every feed, so I had to read to keep myself from falling asleep. She now sleeps in the dark no bother without a nightlight - she had one for a while but when I stopped using it she didn't mind at all. The baby monitor we got had a built-in nightlight, Solars.
Sweetie, grr at DHs complaining! Mine does too, but I think in your situation he would quickly learn to keep his mouth shut. I'm a twin and we shared all clothes except coats and shoes up until we were at least 8 or 9 - in fact, we shared socks and pants until we left home at the age of 18.
That sounds very skanky written down, but it wasn't (I don't think)! I think with the amount of washing one newborn/weaning baby/toddler generates, much less two, the last thing you need to be worrying about is separate sets of clothes.
Keep, yy to being given lots of clothes but not necessarily what you need now. People give you lovely pretty clothes, but they tend to be little outfits like jeans, party dresses, coats etc which aren't very practical or comfy. M lived in vests, babygros and cardigans for weeks, and that's what we had to buy more of - she started off in Tiny Baby because she was 6lbs 5, and then was in Newborn for ages. She could also go through 3 or more vests in a day with nappy explosions, and she was sick a lot so frequently needed clean cardigans/babygros.
Re Moses baskets/cribs/pram carrycots - I found it v handy to have somewhere to put M down in every room. I had the Moses basket in the bedroom and the pram in the living room/kitchen - it even came to the bathroom with me on occasion! I was worried the dog would stand on her if I left her on the floor in the baby gym at first, so that wasn't an option for me until she was at least 3 months and the dog had shown me that he was reasonably sensible unless the postie came at which point he would rush around the room barking and not noticing where he was stepping. This time I'd quite like a wee cheap bouncy chair that I can carry one-handed to the bathroom if need be (baby in one arm, chair in other). We were given a rocking swing thing that was useless quite wide and unwieldy, and actually she hated it. You couldn't take that easily between rooms. Later on I got a Bumbo, which was great - she could sit and watch me cook, for instance, but you can't use those until they can sit upright quite well. We were also given a Jumperoo when she was 5 months, which was great - she could be entertained for ages in that while I MNed got on with things. Oh, and she had an old fashioned baby walker which she adored - she could follow me around but she couldn't actually get close enough to anything to hurt herself. I suppose this time around I'll have to think more about an enthusiastic toddler damaging the baby by mistake rather than the dog.
Sorry for the epic post! Not much to report here. I had some brown spotting yesterday and promptly freaked out. I know that brown spotting is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about, but at the same time I can't help starting to imagine all sorts of horrible things.
