Ladies I think we need a new festive thread to take us through to the end of the year. And as it will be me to sneeze next –how did it get around to my turn so quickly???-- I thought I would do the honours.

Crib in the bedroom and she was on her baby gym downstairs. The crib is 40 odd years old and DH slept in it as a baby so no cost there and MIL gave us the gym.

cartoontrickster · 24/11/2013 17:27

wow rubber that crib has done well then!

keepitgoing · 24/11/2013 18:14

Crib upstairs from my sister. Moses basket downstairs. Have a stand but its not essential. We have a baby gym mat things from nct sale, not used yet, she was unimpressed when we tried.
No, not on instagram but I will figure out mm photos soon... :)

musicalmrs · 24/11/2013 21:54

Ooh speaking of meetups, should really arrange to get together with you Maybe (if you fancy it?) as we live so close!

I had a moses basket, which stayed upstairs most of the time - the majority of the time DD napped on me! I would have been happy with a crib though - a relative was desperate to buy us a 'big' baby present, and we'd already bought all the essentials we were after, so she decided a moses basket was the way to go!

So so excited about the impending brooking babies.. Sweetie how are you feeling?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 24/11/2013 22:01

Yes Musical! Most definitely!!

I shall arrange a date for my northern trip too!! Will most likely be early next year though. I shall have a word with Sparks.

How was your weekend Solars? I get you're shattered!!

I'm good thanks Bumpie. Getting close to Christmas which always makes me happy. It can officially begin after Wednesday!!

Bumpiemalumpie · 25/11/2013 07:29

hello all,

Well joining the top secret fb group was eye opening, appears my ohs surname is not as anonymous as we thought!!!

trix no, I didn't realise either. The race is on!!

We have a Moses basket that I hope to use as a day and pre-6months night sleeping arrangement. We went with this over a pram carry cot and don't have space for a crib!

I am in two minds about when to buy clothes. EDD is 2nd February and with the January sales plus my forced upon me baby shower on the 4th January, I am hesitant to get to much too soon. what did you all do/are you doing??

Off to get the room thermometer today!!

Solars · 25/11/2013 09:03

Morning Brew

We're getting one of those next-to-bed cribs/cot and as we live on one level we're hoping this will be enough although we will have the carry cot too as an option in the living room during the day.

Maybe the weekend wasn't too bad! Guests on Saturday we took out for a pub lunch instead of me trying to mad rush cook and they left sensibly by 6pm and yesterday, although manic as there were lots of kids there, was quite relaxed too and we got home about 8ish.

Sweetie Hoping all gets clarified for you at your next appointment but it's great that it's all in your notes now! How are you feeling?

Kitty hope you're enjoying the Doppler and MrS was more worried about me sneaking a peek before him!

Bumpie tough one but I may be inclined to wait but if you see anything really cute I say go for it. We are being inundated with people's hand me downs at the moment, so we've already got loads probably too many than is needed clothes!

Trix you sound like everything is in hand. I'm starting to panic here as we are still not much closer with getting the spare bedroom ready arghh
Anyway off to get a bit of work done now!

SweetieTime · 25/11/2013 10:14

Morning all, I am super excited at the moment. I am on an IVF thread and 3 babies were born on Saturday!! Twin girls and another girl - I am soooooo pleased for all involved. I have name envy of the twin girls too although it is their middle names, I could never convince DH to name ours Dixie or Dolly - I proper love those names.

Solars your weekend sound lovely and your guests sound very considerate.

Bumpie I bought the basics (babygros, vests, hats & mitts) in Tiny Baby & Newborn sizes as I thought people would give us bigger size stuff. I got a few babygro sets in sales when I have seen them but vests are cheap and available everywhere so don't worry. We have been given loads of girls clothes in various sizes but no boys and I have bought 2nd hand bits (carry cots, bouncer chairs) from local sellers.
It is random things which I haven't got such as bath/room thermometer and baby bath. I am going to order these this week, I thought I could get away bathing the twins in the sink but my Mum says not.

We plan on having carry cots downstairs and a travel cot upstairs in our room. We can move the travel cot down stairs when the twins move into the nursery which has 2 cots. Someone has given us a baby gym so will see if they like that too. So many options.

I am not sure I have enough cellular blankets as I didn't go mad because intend to use grobags so have only bought 2 large and 2 small. Not sure if I should buy the same again as I am sure they won't go to waste - any thought?

I am feeling great now my feet are more comfy in my flight socks, DH whinges as he has to put them on for me before he goes to work but they do make a massive difference. I am doing more batch cooking today, lasagnes and turkey & lentil curry. Our freezer (we have bought a small chest freezer for the garage to stock up) is full of silver boxes, last week I made shepherds pies, slow cooked beef in beer and chillis.
Nothing else to report, my bump doesn't seem to be getting any bigger. I haven't had any twinges but do seem to have more pressure low down but I suppose the combined weight will be about 10lb now. I have started taking my raspberry leaf tea over the weekend too.

keepitgoing · 25/11/2013 10:35

sweetie am jealous of all the cooking! Well done!

I want to use a grobag but she's still too small. But I wouldn't get loads of blankets, we haven't had any poo or wee on them yet.

People have been v generous with clothes, but mostly outfits in bigger sizes, where what you need now are lots of bestseller and babygros. sweetie its weird people haven't tried to give sth for each twin, unless its second hand that makes sense. I reckon the twins can share clothes at the start when its all about getting them something clean and dry.

Am also loving all the ivf baby good news :)

Solars · 25/11/2013 10:55

Keep do you think 2 cellular blankets would be enough, one large and one small size? Also are the dim night lights necessary? If so what type have you got as I can't seem to find any I like.

Sweetie I'm very impressed with your batch cooking and so glad the socks are doing the trick! shame on MrS complaining about having to put them on with all you are doing carrying the twins!!

I really should be doing some work but keep thinking about all the things we've yet to get!!

keepitgoing · 25/11/2013 11:00

solars we have a lovely woollen shawl that we use in thh day, and various people have given us little blankets. I'd say if you have a variety of other stuff, eg for when they are in the pram that'd be enough though. we fold our over in the crib so it's like having 2 anyway. Re nightlight - it seems she prefers to sleep with something on. We are just using our normal (energy saving so dimmish) bedside light. Wasn't expecting her to want a light on, but we're so knackered it doesn't bother us ;)

SweetieTime · 25/11/2013 11:30

keep the girls clothes we have received are 2nd hand. We must only know people with girls!

Solars DH loves to complain. It is a good job he isn't the one pregnant. I am sure he would do it but cannot imagine the whinging.

OP posts:
TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 25/11/2013 14:02

Keep, I had to have a light on so that I could see what I was doing and didn't drop M into the Moses basket or bash her head getting her out of it! There are no street lights near me and when it's dark, it's really dark. Also, she did a lot of cluster feeding and would feed for at least an hour at every feed, so I had to read to keep myself from falling asleep. She now sleeps in the dark no bother without a nightlight - she had one for a while but when I stopped using it she didn't mind at all. The baby monitor we got had a built-in nightlight, Solars.

Sweetie, grr at DHs complaining! Mine does too, but I think in your situation he would quickly learn to keep his mouth shut. I'm a twin and we shared all clothes except coats and shoes up until we were at least 8 or 9 - in fact, we shared socks and pants until we left home at the age of 18. Blush That sounds very skanky written down, but it wasn't (I don't think)! I think with the amount of washing one newborn/weaning baby/toddler generates, much less two, the last thing you need to be worrying about is separate sets of clothes.

Keep, yy to being given lots of clothes but not necessarily what you need now. People give you lovely pretty clothes, but they tend to be little outfits like jeans, party dresses, coats etc which aren't very practical or comfy. M lived in vests, babygros and cardigans for weeks, and that's what we had to buy more of - she started off in Tiny Baby because she was 6lbs 5, and then was in Newborn for ages. She could also go through 3 or more vests in a day with nappy explosions, and she was sick a lot so frequently needed clean cardigans/babygros.

Re Moses baskets/cribs/pram carrycots - I found it v handy to have somewhere to put M down in every room. I had the Moses basket in the bedroom and the pram in the living room/kitchen - it even came to the bathroom with me on occasion! I was worried the dog would stand on her if I left her on the floor in the baby gym at first, so that wasn't an option for me until she was at least 3 months and the dog had shown me that he was reasonably sensible unless the postie came at which point he would rush around the room barking and not noticing where he was stepping. This time I'd quite like a wee cheap bouncy chair that I can carry one-handed to the bathroom if need be (baby in one arm, chair in other). We were given a rocking swing thing that was useless quite wide and unwieldy, and actually she hated it. You couldn't take that easily between rooms. Later on I got a Bumbo, which was great - she could sit and watch me cook, for instance, but you can't use those until they can sit upright quite well. We were also given a Jumperoo when she was 5 months, which was great - she could be entertained for ages in that while I MNed got on with things. Oh, and she had an old fashioned baby walker which she adored - she could follow me around but she couldn't actually get close enough to anything to hurt herself. I suppose this time around I'll have to think more about an enthusiastic toddler damaging the baby by mistake rather than the dog.

Sorry for the epic post! Not much to report here. I had some brown spotting yesterday and promptly freaked out. I know that brown spotting is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about, but at the same time I can't help starting to imagine all sorts of horrible things. Blush

cartoontrickster · 25/11/2013 19:17

sweetie you are amazing! will come and fill up my freezer with yummy dinners. I'm aiming to do the same but we have a really small freezer and can't afford to buy a bigger one. I figure it will still be good to have some bits made up so we aren't living on beans on toast
glad the socks are working.
I can't remember who's said what...
blankets, we seem to have loads a mix of cellular, fleece and knitted. my mum and grandma brought some plus we got a few as well. we splashed out on a blanket from the white company which is lovely. probably have far too many really.
I find it hard to know how many of each thing we will need.
we got the gro egg room thermometer which glows but I'm not sure it gives off much light. I hadn't really thought about sleeping with a light on or switching a bright light on when I need to see to treats. we have one of those touch lamps that has different brightness settings perhaps I would be best switching my usual bed side lamp with that one.
bumpie I've been buying bits and pieces slowly for ages! I know what you mean about waiting for the sales but lots of places have deals on anyway plus I figure that unisex bits hardly ever get reduced. also what if the baby comes early! I will be at term the weekend after Xmas.
we had a routine growth scan and consultant appointment today. its so hard know treats is getting big to tell what's what on the screen. treats weighs about 4lbs now Shock (if I've worked it out right)
we talked about the birth. I will be in the labour ward. I have also been offered the chance to be induced at 40wks rather that to leave me over, if I get that far obviously. I think I will say yes to a 40wk induction.

Stacks · 25/11/2013 20:35

Just a quick post about lights - we used the glow from the gro egg thermometer, it's plenty bright enough for seeing what you're doing without being too bright. I even started covering it up with a muslin once a bit more sleep was being had. We also have an alien light from IKEA, it's an led light I think, and cycles throug colours or you can pause it on one colour - that's a bit brighter than the gro egg, but still not too bright if you've just woken up. Finally our baby monitor has a light built into it too, which I don't use often, but it enough for administering calpol etc. You find when you wake up in the night you're eyes are used to the dark so you need very little light really.

Blankets - we only used a couple, but we co slept mostly. I used to dress T in a fleece baby gro at night too, so he was warm enough for the most part without extra blankets.

We didn't need nearly as many clothes as we had, but I bought out of them off eBay because I'm a cheapskate as they're such a good price for what you get. No baby wears them long, so they're in excellent condition.

Too sorry to hear about the brown spotting. I'm sure everything is fine, but I can understand you worrying anyway. Would the epu take pity on you and give you a reassurance scan if you asked? They're really nice about at sort of thing I find. Sending hugs your way.

cartoontrickster · 25/11/2013 20:43

too I agree with stacks, have you spoken to your midwife or anyone. you may as well try to get an early scan they can only say no. I'm sure its nothing though, I think most of us have spotted at some point. how many wks are you?

TheLittleFriend · 25/11/2013 21:02

Hi all, still reading but not getting much chance to post.

Cartoon - I swapped my bedside lamp for a touch lamp when the dc were in with us and it worked well. Smile

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 25/11/2013 21:16

Tricks, I'm only 6+7. The spotting is lighter today - less of a brown and more a pale fawn. It's a week tomorrow until I see the MW. I did think about asking for an early scan just because I think the MW would organise one without any bother, but the spotting really is minimal, I'm just a worrier. I've never had problems at this end of pregnancy before, so I'd feel a bit of a fraud. Having said that, the lovely MW booked me in for 2 early scans last time to stop me freaking out...

Btw, why are you under consultant care and potentially being induced at 40 weeks? Hope everything is ok.

Stacks, hope you're less tired now. Did you get anywhere with the thyroid thing? I meant to ask on Fri but M kept distracting me.

I have just mopped the kitchen floor for the first time in approximately 4 months! Blush If I get any more spotting I shall blame it on hoovering and mopping and use it as an excuse to stop all housework. I just made DH clean the bathrooms because pg women aren't supposed to inhale nasty chemicals. There are some perks to pregnancy!

musicalmrs · 25/11/2013 21:38

Sorry to hear about the spotting Too. Brooking that you get no more of it! Hurrah for getting DH to clean the bathrooms Grin. Our oven needs a good clean - that involves really strong chemicals I believe. Can I live with it being filthy until I get my BFP though, that's the question.. Grin

Bumpie sorry to leap upon you on FB like that! I was so excited to finally have a connection with a fellow brooker. It was the mutual friends that gave it away really - the surname was the final bit Wink.

keepitgoing · 26/11/2013 08:48

Dh has gone back to work :( he is so sad to have to leave her :( Two weeks feels like nothing

TimeAndRubberBulletsInSpace · 26/11/2013 09:21

The first day is the hardest Keep. Once you get through it you will know that you can and tomorrow will seem easier. Nobody expects you to be up doing lots so make sure you don't expect too much either. You don't even need to get dressed if you don't feel like it.

ThedementedPenguin · 26/11/2013 11:06

maybe I had a great weekend. Although I'm still very sore from all the walking we done. However, I am able to walk now without a lot of pain.

I'm looking a Moses basket this time so I can carry it upstairs and it means you don't disturb baby as much. However, this will depend on how much money I get as Xmas presents.

Things here are good. Ds and I have doctor appointments today. His rash is still there, although I think it is smaller but not by much. Also we lost the cream . My appointment is about potential spd/sciatica. So hopefully we will get it sorted.

Hoping I'll get all my Christmas presents sorted today. Anyone any idea what you can get for god parents? Need to separate gifts and I have idea.

cartoontrickster · 26/11/2013 12:00

too I'm a massive worrier too. if an early scan will help you relax I think you should try and get one.
I'm under the consultant because of my 3 miscarriages, they are keeping a good eye on us. me and the baby are both fine no probs so far. she mentioned there being risks to going over 40wks but wasn't clear on what they were. I do know the placenta gets tired but I thought that was ok till 42wks. she did mention my stress levels so maybe that's why. also it may be to do with my raised natural killer cells (same as olives) although I was seeing someone privately to treat that. the NHS don't believe in that theory but she did seem to acknowledge it as a possible reason to be induced.
im reading up about the pros and cons now

Bumpiemalumpie · 26/11/2013 19:59

hello all,

musical, quite alright, funny really as I often wondered who I was talking to!!

funny day today, SPD is finally taking over but will not win!! heat bags down the knickers is the answer trying to work out how to hide it at work. was talking to a pg friend last night at 9, jibbing her about how her period pains meant she was in labour, literally massively joking but her baby was born at 3:59am this morning!!!!

we are decorating the nursery this weekend!! excited times but also feeling very unprepared. thanks for the tips on what to buy, may panic buy soon!!

33working days left till ml and I am stressing I won't get it all done!! did anyone else feeling that?

I have bought a gro-bag temp/light which is mega cute, I may get an owl hood for it to match my woodland theme!!

how is everyone?

SweetieTime · 27/11/2013 08:47

I am so over being pregnant now, just saying.

Will be back later to post properly.
