duno if my baby is engaged or not. assuming they would have told me if he was? almost finishing packing my bags, just got some antibacterial wipes and some arnica tablets to get. erm - what i'd like to know is how are you supposed to pack snacks until the day!!they'll get all crushed!!i think my mucus plug might be coming away slowly but not sure - very thick lumpy discharge .. ewwwwwww!

jersey · 08/06/2006 13:29

Kosha just seen on the stats thread you are due the day before me. Are they concerned that you are only 34 weeks as this has worried me?

Hope I didn't worry you.

jersey · 08/06/2006 13:51

Sorry moan on the way!!!!

Just had DH on the phone re childcare for DS next week, etc... He wants DS to stay at home with me as I am off work instead of going to his parents. My arguement is that I have been told to stop work and to put my feet up and rest for medical reasons. As much as I love having DS at home he is hard work and I wouldn't manage to rest. DH says its not fair on his parents if I am at home for them to have DS full time. AAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I was still at work as originally planned they would have him. I did say what if they had said yesterday that I have to be admitted to hospital as I was last pregnancy, they would have to have him then.

I suggested half days, so see what happens tonight.

Sorry, moan over, just needed to get that off my chest.

Annie29 · 08/06/2006 13:57

Koshka, good luck at the labour ward. If it is early labour, I think they can give you something to stop it. However 34 weeks is ok, so it's a bit early, but they can look after premature babies (and mums!) really well these days. I did read or hear that we are actually all in pre-labour for the last month of the pregnancy anyway, not just the 'real' labour day, so you might just be feeling it more than usual... Good luck, we're all thinking of you!!
You'll be fine, don't worry.

spub · 08/06/2006 14:06

Koshka - I spent the day of giving birth to dd at home sleeping and in and out of the bath. Sounds like you may be on your way? Are you 34 weeks?
Thnk the bearing down sensation is the baby's head beginning to engage. Don't think I've had that happen yet; apparently it happens later in subsequent pregnancies as your pelvis alters after the first baby!
Reassured that many of you are also getting the sore ladybits and shooting pains in the undercarriage! My bump is getting really itchy as I think it's struggling to contain this child!
Hope you're all having a lovely day.

AggiePanther · 08/06/2006 14:39

Ooh koshka, how exciting ...let us know what happens won't you?
Jersey ...totally on your side here - looking after a small child is anything BUT resting Grr!

Sounds like baby might be engaging then - if the pushing down pains are what the rest of you are describing - not seeing anyone till the 15th though so guess I won't find out till then

Hi everyone

Since I panicked about not gaining weight I've gained 2kg, in 2 days!!!!! I'm hoping its weighing scales error although it could be the mother of all fluid retention looking at my ankles! am going to stop weighing myself now as its all too scary :)

good luck Koshka if it is the real deal!

and I second giving your DH a slap Jersey, men have no idea....

HumphreysCorner · 08/06/2006 17:22

Ooh-koshka, fingers crossed everything is running smoothly. Hope to hear some news soon. ((xx))

Went to the midwife this morning and baby is 3/5 engaged but the midwife said that doesn't mean anything as subsequent babies pop in and out all the time and that is why you get sharp shooting pains with the head butting. She said to stay at home in labour as long as possible and it will be quicker this time. Avoid pethedine and epidurals. Have made an appointment for 2 weeks and she joked that I may have had the baby by then-well I hope she was joking.

jersey-although my MIL is v. annoying she has DD every Tuesday whether I'm at work or not as it is the only time she sees her. Put your foot down!

deblaca-when I was in the other week I spotted 2 bottles of mini SMA Gold on the MW's desk so hope it is still available when I go in. What are you supposed to do-take the sterilser and a load of bottles just so that DH can give a feed???? Got enough stuff in my bag and DH is considering taking a blow up bed and his laptop.

Anyway, time to get tea ready so bye for now.

Twirl · 08/06/2006 20:14

Good luck Koshka, i'll be thinking of you. When I lost my plug last time my waters broke at the same time and I was fully dilated 3 hours later Shock.
Has anyone else got really sore nipples? They feel as bad as they did in the early days of breastfeeding last time, can't remember this happening last time round.
Was supposed to see my consultant yesterday about elective c/s and hospital phoned and said the receptionist had made a mistake and he was on holiday .... grrrrr. He was supposed to see me last week too and got called away. I kicked up a bit of a stink and they contacted him and he said to go and see him this morning. So DH rearranged time off work to come with me and we rearranged child care and ..... he wasn't there again. I had to see his senior registrar who was very nice and sympathetic but said I will have to go back next wed to see him as it is his decision to make. I'm finding this so very stressful and I'll be 37 weeks then. I can't sleep for worrying about it. Even my homebirth midwives think I am best off with a cs and just want to have it agreed and a date set. Bloody doctors Angry!

Twirl · 08/06/2006 20:16

Sorry, that was a bit of a rant. Glad you are all coping well in this heat. Might go and have a glass of wine and pack my hospital bag now before ER comes on....

jom · 08/06/2006 20:45

Koshka - Hope all is well with you. Let us know how you got on at the hospital.

Annie - thanks for the info re the TENS machine. I think I might give it a go this time. My hospital have a night where they do a demo on how to use it - did you do anything like this or just work it out yourself?

Spoke to my midwife today about the Group B strep test and she said just to make an appt with the nurse and they would do a test for me if I wanted one. I received my test kit last week after all you helpful ladies were talking about it (I'd never heard of it! Shock) but didn't mention this to her so sounds like they'll do it all for me. My blood pressure was fine, and as no swelling in my ankles the swollen feet are nothing to worry about - just the heat. Next appointment at 36 weeks where we'll be discussing the birth plan. Scarey, we're getting close now! (But exciting!!Smile)

No vivid (or raunchy) dreams for me, just broken sleep. Woke up sweating like a pig last night! Hope you are all managing to get some rest, take care of yourselves.

bumpybel · 08/06/2006 20:52

Evening girls..

Any news on Koshka? I think my 'plug 'went on monday. I was in Asda on lunch break, went to the loo and there was this 'more than normal' amount of pinky brown snot type stuff (tmi, but sod it!)... anyway, I went white and it dawned on me that I'm going to have a baby some time in the future. Rang the midwife, who said to keep calm and that things may still be several days away, but to ring in if pain etc.

Well anyway, since then, I've had backache and on off period pains for three days now. And like you HC, lots of poo! No serious pains though and nothing more than period type pains. I stopped work today, as i dont fancy the idea of my waters going in the office. My mw came and did my birth plan yesterday, at the house and spent two hours. She doesnt think it'll be too far off as am 3/5ths thingy. The baby is lying backwards though. Feel strangely emotional and quite calm.. its really wierd. Not expecting anything to happen for at least another week or so though, as i'm always late for everything!

Aggie... I've put on a good three stone! Its all on my tummy and thighs... oh and boobs! From the back I dont look that amazingly different. From the side I look enormous!!!

Kayzed... you've reminded me to start doing some of that massaging... i'm paranoid about tearing.

Blossom you sound so chilled!

Love to all
Bumpy and on off period pains.x

AggiePanther · 08/06/2006 22:02

Bumpy - me too , mostly bump and boobs - although this past week my face is looking a bit chubby :(

Sounds like things may be happening for you too, as well as koshka - how exciting!! I wonder which one of us will be first? I read that only 5% of babies are actually born on their due date so we'll probably all be in a different order to our current stats

Morning girls!

Oh-its so exciting that things are starting to happen on here. I'm 25 July so still a while for me but it makes it all seem a lot closer.

Good luck Koshka and Bump!!Grin

The MW came around yesterday to discuss my homebirth. She has booked me in from 4th July - 5th August. So if I go into labour during those dates my homebirth is on, if not then it's a hospital trip for me.
So I shall be trying to hold myself together till the first week of July and then be pulling out all the stops to get the baby out.

BTW- The thing with the pineapple, does it have to be fresh or can it come from a tin (i know I am so lazy!), no I have bad hands and cutting up a pineapple isn't my idea of fun. If it has to be fresh I will just have to get my mum to do it.

I am so Envy of DD1. Was creaming my girls up to play in the sun . Did DD2 first, she's just like me, got short little legs. Then moved onto DD1, I swear her legs are already longer then mine (lol). She has her daddy's genes. Beautiful legs.

Jersey- If you have been told to rest, then you rest. Tell DH he can stay home and look after you and DS! That's what grandparents are for anyway.

Twirl- Am sorry to hear about the trouble your having trying to get your c/s. It must be sooo frustrating. I know i'd be pulling my hair out. I hate being messed around by anybody.

Well, am feeling soo relaxed today, off for another picnic in the park with my beautiful girls later. Have fun everyone, will check back later to see if there have been any arrivals!

spub · 09/06/2006 08:27

Morning all! Looks like another sweltering day ; even in Scotland!
Blimey, from the pains and the shows it sounds like we could have a couple of babies coming in the next week or so! It's all very real, suddenly isn't it? And this from someone who's done it before!
My nips are also very sensitive and I'm shedding granulated sugar from them as I'm seeing little drops of colostrum appearing and this must be the residue.
No raunchy dreams just lots of tossing and turning and feeling totally sweltered.
Off to the chiroptractor this morning. Last time she did an amazing tapping thing on some of my energy points (i'm truly not a new age hippy)and really perked me up. She's also great for helping with that puffed out, constricted chest feeling.
Hope you're all about to have a lovely day. More laterGrin

Morning, last day in work, yippppeeeee!

Sorry for those still having to slog it out Sad!

Unfort means I have to return 11th dec now instead of after xmas but never mind.

Hope everything is going ok with the possible labours, fingers crossed for you both.

In laws are having DS half days next week so at least I can get my last essay done with my feet up Grin. Don't know what is happening after then.

Enjoy the weather if you can, speak later.

HumphreysCorner · 09/06/2006 09:46

Morning all

Boiling here in Lincolnshire too. Mum and dad will collect DD for the day soon but I think I am coming down with DD's lurgy as my throat feels like the bottom of a parrots cage so don't know if I can stand the heat.

Right nipple leaking colostrum and that is the sore nipple.

We could soon be adding births to the bottom of our stats list. Really getting nervous now.

pinkdolly-my DD has got my legs unfortunately v.short and stubby with a fatty bit on the inside of each knee and no chance of getting boots to fit. So hope DD2 gets DH's legs.

Twirl-keep fighting for your rights!!

OK-will check on here for news later.

Byee!

xxx

pinkdolly · 09/06/2006 10:11

Was just thinking how baby's head must be quite low today as feeling quite a lot of pressure down there. When DD2 ran full pelt from the other side of the room and ran straight into me. Her head is right on the part of my pelvis. Force was enough to knock me backwards and I had to sit down for a bit. Now I have a dull ache there. Do you think baby will be ok, as she has effectivly just been head butted?

Poor DD2 was a bit upset as she only meant to give me a hug, but ohh it hurt!

Annie29 · 09/06/2006 10:14

Morning ladies!!
fingers crossed for Koshka and Bumpybel! Really exciting, and makes it all so REAL!
Roasting hot here in London too. I've skived off work today, just cos I can, though still have another three weeks...

Jom, our hospital had an evening demo for the TENS if you want to hire from them, you have to go. Yours might be different though. Don't have to go this time, as it's only last year since I used it so the physio let me off. It is helpful I suppose, though it's fairly simple to work out if you can't be bothered to go.

Hope everyone gets to take it easy now today. Enjoy the sunshine!!!

Annie 35+1

Annie29 · 09/06/2006 10:16

Pinkdolly, hope you're feeling better. My DS kicks me when changing his nappy, and it does ache for a bit, but it's always fine after. I'm sure baby is fine, nice and cushioned by all the fluid. Just put your feet up for a while if you can....

pinkdolly · 09/06/2006 10:20

thanx annie, still feeling a bit odd, was a bit of a shock.

AggiePanther · 09/06/2006 11:45

Sweltering here in North Wales too - I stupidly let myself get burnt yesterday so it was even harder to sleep than usual!
Pinkdolly - echoing annie - I'm sure LO will be fine - they're very well protected in there :)
