morning ladies,

This hot, hoy weather is just not fair. Haven't slept properly for the last few nites. And here I am with all the windows wide open at this time in the morning.

My back has been aching for a couple of days, but dont know if that's because I havent been sleeping in my bed.

We had a lovely weekend in Brixham, the girls loved the boats especially the tall ships.. Spent too much money, but never mind.

How is everyone? Anymore babies yet?

I have been ok'd for my homebirth any day from tomorrow (37 weeks), so I have had enough now and would be quite happy to have LO out now. The MW is coming this afternoon to deliver my delivery box. Am so hoping she says baby is engaged and ready to come.

Well have a nice day hope your not too hot!

maewest · 03/07/2006 07:41

Good luck with your homebirth plans Pinkdolly, hope bub arrives soon for you - sounds like you've been having a hard time. Agree with you on the heat - last night waas spent with fan on full blast and a wet flannel!

Wallace · 03/07/2006 08:23

Lovely to hear about all these babies - congratulations And good luck to those who will be having their babies soon - I so jealous I still feel like I have ages to go (will be 37 weeks on Thursday) Shall we have a new thread seeing as the babies have started arriving?

Sympathising with you guys in the heat. Up here in the north it has been nice and warm, but not too hot. And a lot cooler today after thunderstorms last night. School holidays now, looking frward to not having to trudge up and down the road to school three times a day. Ds's birthday on thursday and he is having a huge joint party with a friend, which I am rather dreading. Luckily it is at his friend's house!

usandbump · 03/07/2006 09:23

Today is my due date!!!!

But I just know its going to pass much the same as any other day. Its SOOOOO hot, I can't bear it. I'm wearing dp's boxer shorts and a vest and I'm just going to sit in a cool bath. I want to go out and do something but feet and ankles are so swollen its difficult to walk.

Is anyone finding they were really excited about the birth but are now just feeling scared and wanting it over with? All I can think about is how am I going to cope with the pain and after that how am I going to cope with a baby, is this normal?

nixnoo · 03/07/2006 10:04

usandbump,
I feel exactly the same, and this is my first so I have no idea what is in store for me...
1 week to go today, but LO showing no signs of getting ready yet....

shew, wouldn't want to be in a hospital in this heatwave tho!

good luck all, soooooo exciting
x

usandbump · 03/07/2006 10:07

Thanks nixnoo, thats reassuring and this is my first too
And you're right as much as I want it over with the hospital would be unbearable today.

bumpybel · 03/07/2006 11:08

Morning all...
Kayzed.. how you feeling?

Blossom... when i went on the ctg, the heart rate was different on both days too, i think its just whatever the baby is up to. 106 was my lowest, but then at one point it was 167 odd... think my panic probably contributed to alot of that!!!

I'm trying to plan stuff into each day now to make the time go quickly but its so hot that i dont know if ican be bothered to do anything but sit infront of a fan! Have got the step kids for the next four days. Had a breakthrough with dsd, who has told me that she is now excited about the baby and while she felt a bit funny about it initially, she is now quite excited. THANK GOD!

Right i'm off to stand near a fan in my big revolting granny knickers and pukey enormous bra!

agalch · 03/07/2006 11:26

Morning ladies

Been tipping it down here early morning but it still feels humid and im very hot too.I am on a day off today tho so thats a help.

Just had my scan to check baby and thank god he/she has turned and is deffo head down so i can go ahead and order my pool etc.

Baby is lying with their back on my right side and should really be on my left, anyone know how to shift it round?

I'M TOO HOT!!!!! Can somebody please turn the temperature down a bit before I murder some innocent bystander?!?

Agalch - fantastic news! Lying on your left hand side as much as poss should do the trick, although baby's back to the right is still fine, just not optimum. At least it's not breech still, or back to back.

Jeanie - how exciting you've had your show - think we're due the same day (19th), so that makes it more real for me!

Went to a hen night on Saturday - wedding is on 29th July (determined to be there!) but she kept saying 'not long now' etc. I thought 'it's 10 days after my due date - that's aaaaaaaages away...' - do you think I'm in denial?! Still haven't packed LO's stuff for hospital - I seem to do everything I can to avoid it.

Good luck koshka and everyone else sprogging at the moment - hope you don't overheat, and let us know as soon as you can about the outcome!

Hope it will have cooled down somewhat by the time I pop, as I'll have to be in hospital from the very beginning (due to this IV penicillin thing) and you lot are worrying me about heated hospitals!!

hi - sorry am very late joiner as was due yesterday , hope that's okay. Was just reading through the postings and some struck such a chord they actually made me weep so I had to write!

  • Hot nights - weather from satan

  • Swollen old lady ankles - really annoying and v uncomfortable, but at least they give you a damn fine and visible excuse to go and put your feet up (as in - 'I'd love to stand here chatting / sitting round the table having dinner and being polite etc, but I think all my bodily fluids are going to start seeping out of my toenails if I don't go and lie down")

  • Babies not lying in quite the correct position (mine's head down but spine to the left) - the optimal birth positioning instructions are SO unfair - what do you mean it's better to spend your evenings kneeling forward over a bean bag (please...) or on all fours (especially dignified when you have relatives staying 'to help' as I have). The only thing that nature seems to have designed me for at the moment is lying down in either a cold bath OR lounging on the sofa watching crap telly... FFS!!?

  • Fear of childbirth - yes. I would be especially fearful if I could convince myself that it's actually going to happen and that there's really a baby in there rather than going around in a state of dreamlike denial...

Woke up with some mild period-type pains this morning, which have of course now vanished completely. Oh well, better just get on with it and just hope that the waters don't break anywhere REALLY embarrasing, with my stepfather in attendance!

Good luck to all July mums! xxx

Straightforward · 03/07/2006 12:24

Welcome FirstAtForty! So with you on all you say (except, fortunately for me, the swollen ankles bit).

Sounds like your baby's in optimal position already, if its back's to the left?

Won't be long now... (how sick are you of hearing that from smug non-pregnants!?!?)

dangirl · 03/07/2006 12:42

Hi there lovely fat ladies

39+2 today!! Please let it be soon! Although maybe it is better if it waits till the weather breaks. London is soo hot and humid!

Kayzed - it sounds like it is just about to happen for you hun. Wauhh. All the best to you.

And congrats/good luck to everyone else who has just had/awaiting imminent arrivals of their LOs.

I am actually feeling better than I have done in weeks. Hoping this might be a sign that it will happen soon

Lots of hugs and xx

Hi FirstAtForty

Your post made me chuckle Especially with you on the dream like state!

I want to go back to being my rational sane self, so far today I've ignored the phone coz it was my sister who was only going to say "any news?" Am annoyed with my other half because he has only just called me and its lunchtime and I feel he should be paying me much more attention, work keep calling and texting and if I have to answer I really don't trust myself to respond professionally- I feel like I'm going mad

Welcome firstaforty - my first baby too and I still can't quite believe that its really happening. And all those comments about 'not long now' really bug me - don't they know that the last couple of weeks seem to take aaaaaages

pinkdolly · 03/07/2006 15:16

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Firstatforty!

KZ- How are you feeling hon? Anything going on yet?

The midwife not long left me. I have high blood pressure so she wants to check again on Friday. Although she is not too sure whether I will make it till then as LO is fully and completly engaged . And she said my tummy is nice and tight and hard so it could be any day. Mind you it could also still be a few weeks (lets hope not).

She asked if i'd had any headaches and funny vision, which I have had a bit over the last couple of weeks, but then so have loads of people in my family, just pressumed it was a bug.
I reckon my BP is up because of the hectic weekend I have had.

Anyway, sending you all happy labour vibes, loets get more babies out!!

HumphreysCorner · 03/07/2006 17:35

So glad I've finished work - means I can laze around eating lolly ices to my hearts content. Finally buckled and bought a maternity swimsuit, so went swimming for first time in about 2 months today - absolute bliss, lovely to be in the water! The main reason I stopped going before is I was going to the early morning swim before work and I just stopped being able to get up at that time! Also my TENS machine arrived this morning, and have home visit with mw tomorrow morning. 37 wks on Friday - counting down.

night ladies, bumps and babies x

FirstAtForty · 03/07/2006 22:25

Hi all, thanks for all the welcomes

Thanks also for the optimum birth positioning info - I wasn't sure if the baby needed to have its back facing belly button to be properly 'optimal' - the midwife didn't seem convinced by its current position (kind of sideways, back to the left, head down) - with arms and legs seemingly thrown in all direction - she said she thought it may have legs tucked up towards its shoulders somewhere!! Anyway I have said sod it to kneeling / leaning over bean bags so am hoping things will take some sort of easyish course without assistance!

Just had a very small spotting of blood so something may be happening, nothing that could be realistically called a contraction though.

Hope tonight's temperatures are more comfortable for everybody - still pretty sticky down here in the west country. xxx
