Iamblosson - I went to a refresher antenatal course a couple of weeks ago annd was told that for 2nd (or more) time mothers you should not wait as long as to 2-3 mins apart but rather 5 mins apart. This due to the fact that it is almost always quicker 2nd time around.
But of course to always call them for advise.

puddytat99 · 07/06/2006 12:09

Hi Everyone

Hope all is well with you all and your bumps.

Have had loads of Braxton hicks with this one but had some contractions on Monday which were strong and painful but irregular. Each lasted about 15-20 secs. Lasted for about an hour. Everything has settled down again now. Though bump has definately got a lot lower. Baby still really active. Seeing Dr on Friday, yet again somebody I've not seen before.

As for weight gain, I've put on about 20lbs so far, even after all the choccie ice cream. As for loo roll back up to 9 sheets after dropping down to 8 for a while. Can't believe I'll be 36 weeks tomorrow Shock

Last had my centile done at 20 weeks at scan, so no idea where I am now. Never have had my bump measured yet, just poked and prodded.

Forgot to say I was told the same as Dangirl about contractions being 5 mins apart at antenatal classes.

spub · 07/06/2006 13:22

Hi all,
Sounds like we're all braxton hixting!
I'm actually really anxious NOT to go into labour naturally as that would then mean an emergency c/s!
Twirl, date was decided by the hospital - the week before my edd. I was 2 days over with dd so that may have suggested that I was unlikely to go early this time?
I have peppermint tea, thanks. Had just thought that if it was sweltering hot then a cold minty drink might be easier to get down me!
Sorry if this is a tmi type question but are the rest of you really aching "down below"!!!? I'm generally feeling a draggy kind of ache with the occasional shooting pain in my labia that I kind of remember from last time.......
Have spent the morning cleaning cupboards (nesting, moi?) and am now going to veg with a cuppa and some crappy telly.
More later. Love to all.

deblaca · 07/06/2006 13:40

spud - yup re the aches and pains down below, odd sensations in all passages (sorry ladies), mentioned it to m/w last monday because i was worried it was an infection (altho no burning or other symptoms you'd usually suspect) reassured me it was usual baby pressing down and softened ligaments .... the softened ligaments are difficult to get used to, sometimes feels if my pelvis is separating iwswim - strange
had a FABULOUS massage this morning - mmmmmm

AggiePanther · 07/06/2006 15:20

Hi all,
yes spub, getting lots of new sensations 'down below' . Am also having braxton hicks - or at least I think they are - my bump goes really tight for about 20 seconds - is that BH's? I really can't remember last time it was so long ago.
Also having lots of hiccups - or at least the baby is, she must have them 2-3 times a day for about 10 mins each time. Sometimes they seem really fast too - about 1 a second..is this normal, does any one know?
Haven't packed my bag yet but have got some new jammies for hospital - not sure what I'll wear for the delivery yet...probably a tent - I've put on 3 stone and I've still got 5 weeks to go!!! Shock Blush

IamBlossom · 07/06/2006 15:24

oooh, really Dangirl, right, thanks for that. Glad you said cos I really don't want to give birth to this one in the car on the way!

aggiePanther - mine also has very fast hiccups several times a day! (Usually after I have eaten)
Weird feeling!

Sat watching my belly move today - it was luffly - I CANNOT WAIT to meet the LO. 5 weeks feels like such a long time to wait.

Havent been this excited about something since I was 6 years old and waiting for Christmas!

Anyway enjoy the weather all! Oh and big brother!

jom · 07/06/2006 20:42

Hi ladies,

I haven't had any Braxton Hicks as yet and only had them once (I think) in my prev preg at 37 weeks when I thought I was going into labour. As it was I ended up being induced at 10 days over so I don't imagine this one will be early either. Hopefully it will though as the hotter it gets and the bigger I get is making me want it all to be over. My feet are swelling up at night although not my ankles so hopefully its nothing too serious. See my mw tomorrow so will see how blood pressure is - feel fine though.

Went to my second antenatal class today, the only 'second time round'er there. Good to be refreshed about it all. Was wondering if anyone used a TENS machine last time round and how they found it as I was quite interested to hear about it as in my prevoius antenatal classes (in Australia) they said they found them pretty useless and no one really used them whereas over here they seem quite popular. I like the idea of them, as in no drugs, but was wondering how useful they are. Obviously its a personal thing but was just wondering if anyone had any experiences they'd like to share.

8 pieces of loo roll still! I haven't been measured by my mw either, just prodded!! Take care all and try and keep cool. Smile

jersey · 08/06/2006 07:54

Morning.

Well went to midwife yesterday and have been 'advised' to finish work as soon as possible! Not due to for 3 weeks but she says my body is telling me to rest as my blood pressure has gone up, still getting headaches and flashing lights, leg started swelling (heat I think) and teh braxton hicks being almost constant for 3 days now. Have to go and see my boss today to see the earliest date I can finish. DH has said to tell him they will put me on the sick otherwise if he is funny about it. Not sure if they would but its worth a go. Unfort. prob. means I will have to come back before Christmas but will work that out later.

Midwife also said the baby is measuring 35 weeks when I am not 34 weeks until tomorrow. She didn't say anymore re this, is this normal or anything to be concerned about?

Oh well will let you know whats happening later.

Enjoy the sun.

spub · 08/06/2006 08:33

Wow, Koshka,
I had my dd 14 hours after my show. Have you been in touch with your midwife or the labour ward yet?
Jersey - hope you get the mat leave started asap. I feel much better now that I don't have work any more! I wouldn't worry too much about the baby measuring a week ahead. I've had this both times and reckon it's pretty normal - after all the whole EDD thing is open to a couple of weeks leeway either side!
KZ - I didn't take nappy sacks last time - or nappies!
Had a minor scare last night when we thought that dd had scarletina; one case was confirmed in her nursery and she had a realy itchy rash on her neck and trunk. Phoned NHS 24 who were fab and suggested Piriton and emoilent cream just in case it was a prickly heat.DD is fine this morning and the rash is much subsided so good news! Another friend's ds has chicken pox and though I've had it it's not a good idea to come into contact with it at this stage! The further joys of pg!
Hope all well

maewest · 08/06/2006 08:53

Morning ladies with bumps. Blimey, I'm off MN for a couple of days and a whole new thread starts up! Just been catching up. I am currently HUNGRY as I have my glucose test this morning so nothing to eat since last night.

Find it interesting how much things vary around the country in terms of care - e.g. I've never been weighed by my mw, think they asked me at my booking appt what my normal weight was but that was it. Feeling hot hot hot at work, especially in the afternoon. Redfacedpg lady in the corner, v attractive :) Starting to feel that the end might be in sight tho, but feeling Envy at those of you due beginning of July. Get the feeling that I'll prob be still hanging on come August!

HumphreysCorner · 08/06/2006 10:13

Morning ladies

Glad it has been mentioned about when to phone the ward i.e. when contractions 5 mins apart as I had no idea.

jersey-hope you get work sorted as you don't want to risk harming yourself or babs health. This warm weather is not good for PG ladies.

I have packed nappy sacks just incase and deffo nappies as our NHS don't provide anything, oh apart from baby milk. When I stayed in that night sanitary towels had to go in these little brown bags before being put in the big bin so take it that it will be the same for nappies.

Girls-we have some wallpaper up-yay!!!! DH said it is the worst wallpaper he has put up as it is washable??? so guess this is going to drag on.

Going to see the MW this morning to discuss my birth plan-got to write some notes in my book before I go.

Still pooing for England-is it normal to be going 4-5 times a day??

Having dreams all night about waters breaking and going into labour which is creating havoc with my sleep. In my dream I had a show and when I looked in the toilet it was a plastic pink dolls head with big eyes and lashes-urrgghh!!! Am I disturbed or what???

koshka-why do you think you have had your show? What was it like?

spub-really worrying about these rashes as you are going through what I went through on Monday. DD's rash has gone so still think it was a heat rash. I am a big sufferer of prickly heat which is made worse by putting sun lotion on. Have this marvellous cream that I can only buy in Spain (perhaps available in other countries but always buy a tube when I visit Spain). In England the Dr told me to take malaria tablets to prevent prickly heat and of course it didn't work.

jane-thank goodness your bag is packed. Now ladies, are we all packed and ready now? Grin

Got some wrapping to do as there are a few birthdays in June and July and I have bought cards and presents now so I don't have to worry after the birth.

Have a good day and hugs to all.

xxx

deblaca · 08/06/2006 10:52

HC check with your mw if they still provide baby milk because our hospital stopped providing it in May 06 and I think its a country wide policy
koshka i think its worth phoning your mw just for reassurance if nothing else (what did it look like what colour etc etc) I know you can lose your mucous (?sp) plug quite ahead of anything happening ............
kz - you're packing - blimey i haven't even shopped for everything i need (think i'm in denial and desparate for this baby to stay till term)
I'm sooooo puffy that if it wasn';t for the excessive weight I'd be in danger of floating off
xx

Annie29 · 08/06/2006 11:10

Morning everyone,

Still don't have my bag packed... Still loads of time, five whole weeks!! Still have to finish work and move house in that time, so baby had best stay put for a while. Though I wouldn't mind not being pregnant in this weather. Or at least not have to work. There's no pleasing some people...

Koshka, how exciting!! Was it a big mucousy plug thing stained with blood?! Laavely! I had mine last time a few days before, but I've heard you can have it up to two weeks before, then again, as spub says, she had hers 14 hours before!! Oooh let us know, you might be the first on here to pop!

Maewest good luck with your glucose test. I'm like you at work, red faced, but I have to sit sometimes with my legs wide apart, which is also very attractive...

Jom, the TENS is a very personal thing. I used one last time, and don't remember it doing much for the pain, but it was fun to play with and was a bit of a distraction. So I'm getting one again this time, but I intend to blast it up full this time, I never reached the maximum last time!! I've heard people swear by them though. Worth a shot would be my twopennys worth anyway.

Jersey, take it easy there girl!

Nixnoo, lol at your waiting for Christmas! Aw!!

Need to sleep...

Have a good day everyone, take it easy if you can.

Annie 35 weeks!

jersey · 08/06/2006 11:15

Hi again. I'm finishing work tomorrow and college as from now!!!!!!!

DH very disgruntled as he is fed up at work, told him when he is preg. he can finish as well! Grin.

Just got to finish off some bits and pieces at work and be on the end of the phone next couple of weeks if needed. One essay left to do for college but my tutor has said I can post it in to save me travelling to the college just to hand in the essay.

SO next week is rest, making curtains for the boys room, rest and writing an essay!!!!!!!!!! Still going to send DS round to MIL or the rest won't happen.

AggiePanther · 08/06/2006 11:41

Thanks nixnoo - funny just after I posted here I found a thread by HITC asking exactly the same thing about fast hiccups - looks like they're normal thank goodness :)
Glad to hear you're resting jersey, you have to listen to your body - mind you if I listened to mine at the moment I'd be on a sun lounger eating ice cream instead of trying to get the house finished. DP is rug doctoring the stairs as we speak.
Am knackered today - spent yesterday having a major clearout of the bathroom -chucked loads of stuff out of cupboards etc - DP cleared out the dining room and today we are changing it into the living room. Then the old living room will become the office so that we can have the spare bedroom back for the baby. She'll be in with us for a while but we need somewhere to put all the baby stuff. Should really have done all this ages ago but have only just finished college and work.
I've been getting some quite uncomfortable 'pushing down' feelings in my pelvis - I was wondering if its the baby engaging? DD didn;t engage till I went into labour last time so I don't know what it feels like - any ideas?

koshka1984 · 08/06/2006 12:21

Hey ladies,
Started having a really bad back and have had crampy pains for a couple of days so i thought i had better call the midwife, i did and they said to go to the labour ward some time today, but not to rush.

My show was like jelly with a bit of blood in it...lovely!!

I am supposed to be moving house today, so DP thinks its an excuse!

He he i wish, but just want to sleep!
Keep u updated, sure its nothing (just love the attention apparently!)
xx

Aggie - yup i;ve had the 'pushing down' sensations for a couple of weeks - my little fella is 2/5 in at mo - and the m/w confirmed that my 'sensations' are from baby putting pressure on

jersey · 08/06/2006 13:13

How many weeks are you Kosha?
