Morning ladies

Gosh, how do you all get organised with more than one child? DD1 is sooo excited and posessive over the baby-bit of a nightmare really when visitors want to hold the baby as she has the biggest tantrums ever!

Anyway, as you know on Monday I had a show and went to mum and dad's but they were out when I got there. Sat and waited and realised my waters were leaking so by the time mum and dad came back I was flooding quite a bit. Rung the labour ward who said to come in so rung DH who couldn't leave work as there was no-one to lock up for another hour at 5-30pm!!!! So mum took me in. Was being monitored then contractions started so panicked which sent my BP up-also protein in my urine and Sophie's heart was racing. DH finally rolled in at 8pm (had eaten tea at home first-grrrh!). Basically, contractions started and stopped all night and DH did stay the night then in the morning they said I had to go home and wait for it to start naturally. Then they said that they had 4 inductions booked for Wednesday so wouldn't have time to deal with me the next day so offered me an induction so I jumped at the chance. DD1 was safe at mum and dad's so had a pessary at 10-30am-contractions immediately thick and fast and at 12-30pm finding them difficult to handle as no break in between. Burst into tears so the MW's had a look and was 5cm dilated. Had pethidine and gas and air. Had a trainee doctor who wanted to watch his first birth and a student MW and a pro MW. Student MW was an ex boyfriends sister. At 2pm called them back as it felt like I wanted to poo and they didn't rush to look so said if birth not imminent I needed an epidural. Then at 2.15pm I said I had to push so they looked and grabbed apron and gloves and out she came at 2.27pm. What a relief! Delivered placenta and no stitches and could even wee!

The student MW was lovely and gave me a hug-last time I saw her she was 14 years old so about 18 years ago. I was her 39 birth and she did her 40th straight after so can now become qualified. Hope it wasn't too traumatic for the trainee Dr.

Came home 6 hours later. Have had a go at BF mixed with bottles. She only can suck off the right nipple but not left so going to ask the MW this morning about it.

Must wish all of you due to have imminent births lots of luck and love and hugs and everything will be fine.

Will try to catch up with news later. Must go as DD1 being a nuisance-lol!

Love and hugs

Huge congratulations to HC on the birth of little Sophie Isobel. Lovely name!!

Best of luck today twirl, tomorrow spub and Saturday koshka!!

I do hope I will be soon. 38+5 today. Nothing much seems to be happening though. I know I should get on with some love making, but... I just feel soo heavy and unsexual right now DH says he would love to help
It all seems rather ironic with DD arriving in the 32nd week. All this time spent worrying re premature labour and now wanting the LO out the sooner the better

Lots of hugs and kisses
Dangirlxxx

dangirl · 29/06/2006 10:32

HC - crossed posts with you. Lovely story - nice and quick delivery by the sounds.
All the best xxxx

usandbump · 29/06/2006 10:55

Great to hear from you HC and I'm sure DD1 will settle down soon (at least she likes the baby it could have been worse

A friend of mine who was due the day after me is having a section today and I can't help feeling really jealous. Have been really tearful lately and this really wasn't helped by m/w saying I'm definitely going to be late. Don't know what is the matter with me I'm not actually due till Monday. Bump hasn't even begun to engage yet which all my books say he should be as this is my first pregnancy. Couldn't ask the m/w about this at appt because I didn't want to break down and cry in there! So hurried out and then cried! Does anyone know what may happen if he doesn't begin to engage? Will induction make this happen? Or does he have to be engaging before induction?
Sorry to go on, I know we are all anxious at the moment.
Sending positive baby vibes to all of you xxxx

lilianna · 29/06/2006 11:23

Hope everything goes alright for all those giving bitrh over the weekend. Take care

Straightforward · 29/06/2006 12:43

Wow - haven't been on for ages and look at what's happened!! CONGRATS to all who've popped and good luck to those who are booked in etc for today.

Well, my news is that I had my scan yesterday and the baby is head down - hurrah! Clara - I had a transverse lie too, but have been doing moxibustion and Chinese herbal footbaths which seem to do the trick (as well as that bum in the air thing!). Anyway, baby is measuring spot on for dates etc and they're pretty sure it's a girl.

Not so good is that I tested positive for group b strep, so will have to have intravenous penicillin from the beginning of labour. Apparently it's not too bad though - you just go in as soon as you're in labour (don't wait for it to get unbearable etc), and they put a canular (sp?) in and you do all your labour in hospital. You can still walk around etc - you don't have a drip or anything, and you can still have a water birth, so long as you keep the canular out of the water.

I panicked when I found out the pos result, but found great help on this website - it's really worth checking out.

Annie29 · 29/06/2006 12:45

HI Everyone,

Good luck today Twirl, you may even by holding your LO already!
Good luck for tomorrow, spub, you'll be fine!!
And Good luck for Saturday, Koshka!! And good luck with the move too.

We're moving this weekend too, though not into our new flat, but in with a friend (who incidently can look after DS now when I'm in labour). Then we'll have to move again in a few weeks when we complete on the new flat, but that can wait as long as I need. We have to get out of where we are though, as there are builders moving in upstairs next week. So I may not have access to internet much after this weekend, as today is my last day at work, so I will miss ye all, specially as it's all happening at the moment.

Oh and MIL has broken her arm. Poor MIL (sense the sarcasm). She won't be able to help out much... What a shame. (Sorry for being a nasty nasty nasty meanie...)

Usandbump, I'm sure DS didn't engage until the late stages of delivery, so don't worry, your LO will when it's ready, even if it's the last minute before you pop.

HC Sounds like you didn't have too bad a time of if!! Enjoy little Sophie now while she's diddy.

Good luck to everyone who may POP over the weekend. Will be thinking of you all, while supervising packing!!

Annie 38 weeks today

sunita123 · 29/06/2006 14:19

Afternoon ladies,

Congrats HC, Welcome little Sophie.

Good luck to Twirl, hopefully you'll be able to let us know how you got on!!
Good luck to Spub and Koshka - Be thinking of you. (Let us know how you get on too!)

Aglach - Any news, is LO head down yet?

Was walking back from school with DS a couple of days ago. Started having twinges, kept a note of the time, the next one came an hour later, and then started coming every twenty mins.......Fifteen mins and then......
STOPPED!!!???!!!
Had a MW the following day and mentioned it to the MW who checked me over. Basically she said it could be soon but the baby's head is down but hadn't engaged so it could still take another three weeks. Hopefully I can hold on until Sunday when MIL comes down so that she can Bsit DS.
Sorry for such a long post.

Take care all
Suni

AggiePanther · 29/06/2006 14:23

Hi All,
Good luck Twirl, spub and koshka
Lovely to hear your story HC and glad it all went well.
Usandbump, DD didn't engage until I went into labour despite her being my first - and she was 2 days early - but I remember being gutted at my mw appointment a couple of days before that when they said she still hadn't engaged so I have every sympathy with you.
I did phone the labour ward when I started having contractions though because I seem to remember something about the cord dropping and possibly getting trapped if contractions start before the head is engaged - this was 11 years ago though so memory is a bit hazy sorry - probably worth asking about though..
I'm off up to the ward to see the consultant again in the morning - fingers crossed that they'll induce me - don't think I can cope with another fortnight.

usandbump · 29/06/2006 15:09

Thank you for the reassurance everyone. Have been for some retail therapy and I think it has helped I will check that out Aggie, m/w visiting me at home on Tues so hopefully will keep myself calm this time! Feel a bit of a wally now

AggiePanther · 29/06/2006 15:13

Don't feel like a wally - there are so many unknowns and questions about pregnancy/labour none of us can possibly know it all, otherwise we'd be qualified midwives/obstetricians (and even they don't know it all)- Besides that's what mumsnet is for - support and advice

AggiePanther · 29/06/2006 15:16

Also just wanted to say don't feel bad about crying - it's pretty normal at this stage when you're tired and fed up - I blubbed in front of my m/w on Tuesday, couldn't help it - it actually helped though cos she brought my appt forward

agalch · 29/06/2006 16:52

Afternoon all

Saw mw this morning and shes fairly sure baby is now cephalic. Yeehah!!! She has booked me in for a scan on Monday to be certain. So homebirth here we come.

Good luck twirl,spub and koshka
Can't wait till i'm reading your birth announcements too.

HC glad your dd likes the new arrival and happy to hear you are settling in with Sophie.

Take care xxx

Hello all,

CONGRATULATIONS HC and welcome to sophie!
Sounds like you had a good birth experience,

Sounds like its all go i think a spurt of babies are on the way

Kosha, dont worry you'll be fine, I lived to tell the tale, if you have got pre-eclamsia induction really is the safest thing and the sooner the better

Evie is doing well getting bigger 4lb13 1/2oz now! Going to register her tomorrow! Nipples also improving finally def worth sticking at it though!!

Take care all
Jane and Evie xx

HumphreysCorner · 29/06/2006 17:31

Afternoon ladies

Just photocopying my maternity book before the MW takes it away-didn't get a keepsake box this time sadly so will have to buy one to keep everything in including my positive PG test-lol!

Had help with BF from the MW this morning then Sophie made my only healthy nipple sore so had to resort to a bottle as was getting frustrated and she was sobbing

Going to register the birth on Monday.

Looking forward to more announcements and then perhaps we should start a June/July mum's antenatal thread as I want to stay in touch with you all off this thread.

Byee for now.

xxx

jom · 29/06/2006 20:11

I really admire you HC. Home 6 hours after giving birth, and on MN 8 hours after giving birth. Full post with all details of your birth, which sounded great by the way, the next day and with a couple of other posts as well. Not sure if I'll be that together at such an early time. Well done. You make it all sound so easy!

maewest · 29/06/2006 20:22

HC - glad everything went well, hope you get the support you need with feeding.

I got my birth ball today, made DH blow it up immediately and I love it already, so comfy. DH did have a go at doing 'superman' over it and promptly fell off . Last day at work tomorrow, 36 wks and have mw appt in the morning. And come next Friday (37 wks), she is happy to talk to me about homebirth plans, hurrah!

HC - BIG CONGRATS on Sophie Isobel. Im impressed that you came home so early. I hope your getting some rest.

koshka1984 - Good luck for saturday

Spud and twirl - Same for you, good luck with the sections

Saw the mw yesterday and lo is 1/5 engaged so still a long way to go. I had period cramps on Tuesday but they went after 2hrs although since then I keep getting a pulled muscle sensation in my groin/thighs so the baby may be further down.

I cant decide now if I want the baby now or to wait. I finish work on Tuesday and im looking forward to spending a few weeks just with DD but on the otherhand im so hot!

Good luck everyone and lets have some more babies over the weekend

Annie29 · 29/06/2006 21:47

Evening all,

HC you sound like you are doing so well!! And you Jane!!

My birth ball arrived yesterday Maewest, it took most of the day to blow it up with a rubbish bicycle pump. I'm sitting on it now but it's slowly deflating...my knees are above my hips, which is all wrong... best get pumping again!!

Finished work today, such a relief. No more tube journeys for a while.

I guess Twirl has her little one by now...

Does pressure in your butt mean that the baby is engaged? If I sit back, slouch, then I feel like I'm sitting on something, is that the baby? Best stick to the ball now then.

Good luck to anyone who may be twinging!!!

MW appt tomorrow...

Night night everyone.

Hello girls, this is Spub's hub.

At about 3.45pm today her waters broke. Hospital said they wanted to take a look at her, so a pal ran her up while I drove home from work....

Small contractions started about 5pm, so they took her in about 7.30 and at 7.56 Charlie Matthew arrived safe and sound!! 7lbs 9oz, pink and plump and wondering what just happened. Mum got the shakes a bit from the anaesthetic but did brilliantly. As soon as she was installed in the maternity ward I was given Mumsnet instructions and told to post!

Both doing well, he's had two good feeds, the drugs were wearing off when I left at 10.30 and it was getting a bit sore. I'll pass on your best wishes.
