I'll do it for you pseudo what do you want on there?

Info needed is gender/due date/ possible names.

BreeWannabe · 29/05/2013 09:30

Morning ladies :) Hope everyone is well. A little question: who is still drinking caffeinated coffee? I didn't have any during the first trimester, but now I'm having one/one and a half cups of fresh ground coffee a day... Is this bad? Just like with alcohol there's so much conflicting evidence...

PseudoBadger · 29/05/2013 09:33

Thanks Smitten - Girl, Due 12/10/13, no name yet!

roofio87 · 29/05/2013 09:39

bree I've stayed having at least one if not two cups of instant coffee a day throughout. I love it. one to one and a half is fine, that's still within the ok limits!!

re:weight gain, I've put on 6 lbs in total, and hat hasn't changed at all in the last month despite getting a bit bump, I find that weird. but baby is measuring bang on so I won't worry too much about it.

Natalieand · 29/05/2013 09:49

bree I'm not drinking coffee as I'm not a coffee/tea drinker but I'm still drinking coke x

BreeWannabe · 29/05/2013 09:51

Ah, good to know others are still on caffeine too :) I think every so often I just make myself paranoid about things! I do love my coffee and would find it hard to give it up.

claphammama · 29/05/2013 10:05

wow - what a chatty morning.

I'm afraid I'm having quite a bit of coffee... At least one or two cups per day. (I believe two is the limit - I've done so much research on it out of guilt). Saying this... my coffees are really strong. Although my body seems to be telling me to drink less I think... We have a proper Italian coffee machine at work but I find myself using it rarely these days - unless I'm really exhausted after a night of no sleep. And I was sick again this morning - I suspect coffee makes my nausea worse as it's so acidic. This is one thing I can't give up though... I've always had low blood pressure and these days it can be ridiculous. I can't function and definitely can't work without coffee. I hope one / two cups are ok as they say. I kept drinking coffee when I was pregnant with DS and he is perfect and wasn't a tiny baby (they say low birth weight is the side effect)

serious sorry you had such a stressful move. Hope all is looking better now and the pleasure of decorating the new nursery will make up for all the stress!

flyer I stopped weighing myself but I can see and feel that I've put on a lot of weight already. All women are different. I'm small but put on 3 stones with DS and was really big at the end. It turned out I carried what seemed to be a sea of amniotic fluid and what my midwife referred to as a "monster placenta" - it was absolutely massive. It will all go.

Someone asked about editing and saving changes in the spreadsheet. You just need to open it, add your stuff there and close it. No need to save or click on anything.

Feeling really low today... for no apparent reason, other than this stupid job...

Umlauf · 29/05/2013 10:31

Oh ladies, I can't stop crying, I need someone to give me a virtual slap!!

I've just been to the Doctors for the routine check and he has weighed me and I'm 11 Stone 11lbs. Thats more than a 2 Stone weight gain already. And only 22+4 weeks.

I feel so bloody miserable. How can I have done that when the pregnancy calculators tell me I shouldn't even get to that weight by the 40th week? I should only have put on 5 kilos by now, when in fact I've managed 12. And I'm drowning in coffee now to confort myself.

And now I've got to go and teach a bloody class with mascara all down my fat cheeks!!

clapham sorry you're also feeling low. Don't worry about the coffee, I think it must take a lot to make a difference.

Umlauf · 29/05/2013 10:33

Ah just seen your post flyer! I think I've just about snatched your award. Sorry!!!

On a serious note I have to do something about it. How safe is it to diet, does anyone know??

TheFalconsmistress · 29/05/2013 10:33

because I already had a bmi of over 35 at becoming pregnant all i get is moaned at about my weight but i'm bang on for gaining really for someone of my stature recommended amount of weight gain is 5.5 to 7.5 kg I think they work it from booking in so about week 12? I have gained 3.6kg since then I think i have gained 5.6kg overall since week 5 12.3lbs apparently :S im not fussed but if your smaller your are expected to gain more a fair bit more actually so i would not worry folks

OrangeBlossom2 · 29/05/2013 10:34

Sorry you are feeling down Clapham. Brew

Pleasantly surprised that I didn't put on any weight last week. Maybe all the walking balanced out the ridiculous amount of food I ate.

I am not drinking caffeine but I do like my twinnings decaff earl grey.

TheFalconsmistress · 29/05/2013 10:37

Lol Umlauf try not to worry im 17st 8lb now im sure you and baby will be fine and im sure as your that small you are allowed more weight gain its tiered as i said. Mw said no dieting to me just eat plenty of complex carbs and avoid junk, I have not managed this as of yet :s

Smitten1981 · 29/05/2013 10:38

Pseudo You're added on, that brings the grand total to 14 Boys!!! 6 Girls and 12 Surprises!

OrangeBlossom2 · 29/05/2013 10:44

Sorry umlauf cross posts. Wasn't meaning to rub it in. Sorry you are feeling a bit down about weight gain. If you don't mind me saying, you look pretty slim in your photo on Facebook. Maybe you needed to gain a bit more? Did the doctor seem at all concerned? In the UK they don't weigh you at all after the booking appointment. I don't think dieting to lose weight is a good plan personally, just maybe slow down the gaining a bit? Probably something to check with your midwife before you do anything though. How are you feeling about asking questions in Spanish now?

My sister and grandmother both started as size 6-8 and 5ft 2 and they both put on about 4 stone with all their pregnancies. It did all come off once they stopped breastfeeding. I don't want to put on that much ideally (my sister lived mainly on bread and chicken nuggets!) but maybe that's just what some bodies do.

Umlauf · 29/05/2013 10:46

Aw thanks falcon I did think that so I said to the doctor and he laughed and repeated his little mantra that he seems to have gone to the effort of learning in English, especially for me! "EAT LESS WALK MORE!" They are the only English words he knows (we're in Spain).... worrying he thought they were worthwhile learning! I asked him for diet advice but just got the mantra another few times!!! I can't bloody walk any more though as my back pain kills me when I try to walk!

So Dr Google gave me a few links where it worked out for my height and pre pregnancy weight what I should be and it gave me the 5 kilo mark...

I don't understand it though as I haven't got THAT much fatter... maybe a dress size? None of my pre-pregnancy clothes fit but I assumed it was the 4 cup size increase doing that and the bump. My face does look bigger though.

DH on the other hand has lost a Stone recently just from walking to work every day, and is trying to gain a bit, so mealtimes in our house will be a barrel of laughs!

Crikey smitten I can't quite believe the boy/girl discrepency! I wonder if all the surprises are little girls!!!

It is my first wedding anniversary on Sunday. I weighed 9 Stone then!!

PseudoBadger · 29/05/2013 10:48

Please don't worry re. weight. I found out with DS that I gain loads of fluid when pregnant - I don't eat badly (but quite often Blush ) but if it's what your body is telling you to do, then IMO it needs to be done. And fluid - you have no control of at all.
I gained about 3.5 stone with DS and lost it all. It is doable. Please don't stress xx

OP posts:
PseudoBadger · 29/05/2013 10:49

I'm just under 5ft 2

OP posts:
PseudoBadger · 29/05/2013 10:50

And I reckon all the surprises will be girls :o

claphammama · 29/05/2013 10:53

Thanks for my virtual cup of coffee orange :-) very much needed!

And sending you a virtual hug umlauf. Just to echo what others were saying - I'm sure it will be OK, especially if you were slim before. Do you think you are eating any empty calories you could cut out? Sweets or crisps? Or drinking a lot of sugary drinks? I wouldn't diet otherwise

PseudoBadger · 29/05/2013 10:56

I meant to add re. caffeine - I'm drinking about 3 cups of tea and maybe one coffee (replacing a tea). It's within guidelines and it's what I drank with DS.

Umlauf · 29/05/2013 10:58

Thank you everyone, you've made me feel much better. I love mumsnet!!

Yep clapham I'm eating a LOT of crap which I will try and stop now. I think the main culprit is a massive pasta lunch every day at 11pm when I could just have a salad and then tapas on my lunchbreak at 4. When I stop work in 3 weeks I'll be able to have lunch at lunchtime and prepare at home which I think will help. Also we have a vending machine in our apartment so I am often wondering down at midnight for some chocolate!!!

Shirehobbit · 29/05/2013 10:59

I'm sorry that the doctors visit has upset you today, umlauf
After the little chat this morning, I set out for a long walk with the dog (a route I used to run, multiple times a week) and I'm just back - really exhausted! Blush
I kept reflecting on the weight and the difference a year makes (like you and your wedding anniversary - congratulations, btw!); this time last year I was heading down to Dartmoor to run an ultramarathon.
I've found it so hard to be so less active than I was, and weigh so much more.
But as I thought about it, I also thought about how much I more I would rather be in the position I am now, than I was. How in a year's time, we will all have little 7 month yr olds running us ragged Grin and how different life will be again.
It won't stop me stressing about feeling big, but it has helped me put it in its place for now. I can deal with it in the future, sometime.

Shirehobbit · 29/05/2013 11:04

Oh, and on the caffeine thing - I've never stopped my morning ground coffee dose - I couldn't function without it Blush

The research is all very vague, imo. I asked the doctor about it last year, while ttc and he really wouldn't be pushed on it. My understanding is that caffeine raises heart-rate and that can be a problem, especially if you already have high blood pressure (which would explain the link to low birth weight and pre-eclampsia?), but as my HR and blood pressure are pretty low, I didn't see the issue. I guess it can also raise baby's HR, which could effect how effectively they can process nutrients from the placenta, but it would have to be a pretty continually high, surely?

Sanjifair · 29/05/2013 11:10

Hi all, just had my scan. Amazed, it was so clear! Didnt find out the sex and the midwife said the legs were so tightly closed we wouldn't have found out anyway! Everything as it should be, so phew! Placenta high and at the back.

Shirehobbit, I am a runner too, have a few marathons under the belt, but haven't done an ultra. I am still running, only up to 10k and slowly. I find it strange that i can do that without any problems but then get out of breath climbing the stairs at work! Last pregnancy I ran to 27 weeks then went for brisk walks. Put on 3 stone, but lost it reasonably quickly. Hoping not to put on that much this time, but not fussed about it if I do.

Sanjifair · 29/05/2013 11:11

Oh yes, heart rate was 160, last time was 135. So much for being able to tell the sex from the heart rate!
