Hi all...have had a miserable few days. Hayfever's been really bad which has resulted in my asthma playing up and I now have a chest infection.

Got my results of my GTT and my bloods came back just over the 7.8 limit, so i have gestational diabetes and been referred to the diabetic nurse to see whether it can be diet or insulin controlled.

On a happier note though.. had my scan to check my baby's kidneys and all's well Smile i took my sister and DD in with me and dd was really amazed to see the baby on the screen.

DH also told me to treat myself to something nice on his card so i did Grin went to Bluewater and bought some maternity clothes.

I am now going to go and read the rest of the thread and catch up on everyone else's news.

eenywifemum · 13/06/2006 12:33

Micku I am so sorry! It sounds like you are havign it pretty rough right now. Hope the diabetes is easily controlled, let us know. If
you have to use insulin & have to use the injections I hope I can reassure you that they are pretty easy to use - I dont have diabetes but I have had to give myself injections for migraines many times and the same method is used. But I hope you can control it with your diet! Glad your baby's kidneys are fit & healthy! That is very good news. As is the new maternity clothes!! Yay! :)

Booby Sal and I are married, our recent anniversary was 5 years married - we were together only about 9 months before we got married.

Had MW appt this morning which went well - she was 34 weeks pregnant!! We brought a list of questions with us so I am going to start writing the birth plan soon. Then we went and picked up my nappies!!!! Grin They are so awesome!! Salamander and I spent ages putting them on & taking them off a teddy bear! Ugh - so much fun!

I am sleepy though as of course I didnt sleep well last night so I think I will go lay down for a while...

eenywifemum · 13/06/2006 12:36

Sorry I meant to say as well... Baby is breech at the moment - I know he has plenty of time to get into position still but I had this really confident feeling a few weeks ago that he was going to be a breech birth so I am nervous about that... you know what its like sometimes when you just feel really sure of something but you dont want to?

Arabica · 13/06/2006 12:46

Hi everyone, am in internet cafe hiding from the painters. Sorry to hear about the hayfever and asthma micku5, hope you feel better soon. It's unfair that some pregnant women's allergies get better and others worsen. I'm in the former camp as when I went for my asthma check-up last week I was told I was in great shape.
33 weeks tomorrow and size of a large sofa. Absolutely HUGE feet, ankles and legs--revolting.

preparingfor2 · 13/06/2006 13:56

Arabica - totally with you on the swollen feet thing. Just when we get the weather to wear those strappy numbers and my feet look like a pork roll! Shrek eat your heart out.

BigHotMama · 13/06/2006 15:03

Afternoon ladies, hope your all well.

Micku5, sorry to hear about your gestational diabetes, I've got to go and have my blood sugars done tonight too. But great news on your baba being ok at scan.

My ankles have swollen all week and feet have really been hurting, think they need a good pedicure as my skin has gone really hard due to overwearing of flip flops and the fact I cant reach them anymore to moisturise.

Had a day off with DH yesterday and went shopping to Kiddisave which does a lot of Mamas & Papas stuff at cheaper prices. Managed to buy our Pramette, Car seat, Moses basket, M&P's bedding and matching rug, glider chair n stool, playgym, breast soothers at reduced price so come away feeling very chuffed. I think I got over excited in the shop as I couldnt stop sweating, bet they thought I was gonna go into labour lol.

Went to see midwife yesterday and she reckons we are in for a big baby as its measuring above average at the moment, she thinks it could be a 9 or 10lb'er, (deep breathe)....apparently my face was a picture! Baby is head down now and bum is sticking out the front - bless! Heartrate was 125-130 so we think it could be a boy but not 100%.

All we need to do now is paint the nursery, buy the cotbed, get our car sold and new one bought, and get rid of our junk at a car boot sale and get my changing bags ready and prepared.

8 weeks left to go and counting! 4 weeks left at work Grin

BigHotMama · 13/06/2006 15:04

Der I meant hospital bags not changing bags! Shock

eenywifemum · 13/06/2006 16:12

Arabica & Preparingfor2 sorry about the feet! (what a funny sentence!)

BHM all the shopping you got to do is so lovely!! Sounds like so much FUN!! God you girls can tell I get over excited about shopping! What range is the M&P bedding you got from?? We have the Poppy & Mustard bits & pieces which we are mixing & matching with Button Nose Bear from Mothercare as they are the same colors/style. And Shock at your big baby!!! I was just talking to someone yesterday who had a 10lb 2oz baby... geesh! I BET your face was as picture!!

Salamander and I are doing a boot sale as well but we cant settle on what weekend to do and I want to get it over before the end of July when I plan on doing nothing but trying to get comfortable and we are running out of weekends!

olivo · 13/06/2006 17:44

yep, I'm another one who needs to do a boot sale so the poor mite has some room! feeling a bit bad as I'm skiving my aquanatal class tonight, just too tired (even though i know it'll give me energy!) dh is away for a few days so taking advantage of not having football on and watching some discovery home and health!

micku -sorry to hear you're having a rough time.

BHM - Envy to hear about your shopping!

olivo · 13/06/2006 17:53

does everyone else know what their foetal heart rate has been each time? just reading 2labs' thread about heartrates and realised mine always just has it ticked on my notes, not actually what it was.
also, what is the old wives tale about boys and girls?

BigHotMama · 13/06/2006 18:06

Eeny, they do all the M&P's bedding, the poppy & mustard is lovely too, why dont you check their website out - I think its kiddisave.co.uk? Had a bargain with my glider chair only £99.99 too but DH thinks he can watch the footy on it and keep his cans of stella in the side pockets! Yeah right!!!

Olivo, I always ask the midwife what the heart rate is as they never normally tell you, at first it was to see if we could guess what sex it was but dont think it can be judged by that really as its different everytime? We'll just have to wait and see on the day! (The old wives tale is 120-140 for a boy and 150-170 for a girl I think? Or something like that?)

We are doing car boot this weekend if the weather is nice as its an huge outdoor sale we are doing with loads of good buyers!

mojomummy · 13/06/2006 18:24

Hi ladies, gosh, it's so busy on here !

Glad to see everyone is in countdown mode as well..

I got my babies r us catalogue out yesterday to read up on what to take in my hospital bag. last time, DH packed 5 hardback books - I think he thought, well, actually I don't think he did think !

Just had my antenatal check. My fundus is measuring 30cm, instead of 32ish, so need to make sure that is checked again in a couple of weeks. I'm the same weight as I was last time (9st 8lb - so 1st 4lb gain), Dr thinks the baby might be laying sidways, I don't really get that, but the head is down.

Going to check out kiddisave now, in case there is anything I need Wink

oh yes, also been to Tescos, buyng cotton wool, maternity towels (lovely) & disposable knickers (even better) Also treated myself to a pair of pj's for the hospital - £10, can't bring myself to pay out for the mothercare ones...

Micku5 · 13/06/2006 18:40

Feeling much better about things now. I got an appt with the diabetic nurse on Friday and a leaflet was enclosed. My downfall this time has been the chocolate and the fizzy drinks which I don't usually indulge in.

Just made a couple of birthday cards as well and I have to make a fathers day card for my little one after the nursery spelt her name wrong (even after I rang them up and told them how to spell her name)

BHM very jealous about your spending spree. I just had to have a quick look on the kiddicare website..... have been looking for one of those glider chairs as well. They were priced at £300 in John Lewis so we decided to give it a miss last time. Maybe I can persuade DH it will be a good investment this time lol

sarahlou1uk · 13/06/2006 18:43

Hi everyone. Missed you over the last two days. I think it was left to Eeny and me to carry the flag for us August mums! Hope you all enjoyed your stint in the sun. We are gardening at the moment, trying to turn a run down garden into a playground for ds and new baby. Hard work in the sun but today has been raining so the workers got wet! (not me, I'm directing from the Directors Chair!! Grin) Been on Kiddicare and they've got a Quinny Zapp in for £99 and free delivery! Or a Hauck I'coo pram which you can fix a Graco car seat to. Think I might have to invest in one of these!! Anyway, dh is off out tonight so at least I won't have to watch football, although anything decent has been taken off to make way for the stupid game Angry. Sorry if some of you are football fans but I can't stand it. Anyway, going to see if the play equipment is nearly finished on ebay - might make a last minute bid for something!!!

olivo · 13/06/2006 19:05

Shock micku - is it too much choc and fizzy fdrinks that has given you GD? I have had far too much sugar, chunky kit kats, normal ribena and that delicious 'feel good' cranberry spritzer - the kit kats have been a total obsession and i thought it was better for me to have the full sugar drinks thant the ones with sweetner in - I'm normally a caffeine free diet coke girl. am going to have to be really careful now.Sad

dh has just phoned from england - he has been to babies r us and bought loads of things Grin...should be interesting.....

Micku5 · 13/06/2006 19:35

Olivio.. there is a history of diabetes in the family (my grandad had adult onset diabetes) Added to that dd was a big baby, 8lbs 13oz, so I had to have the GTT. Because my blood levels were just over limit the nurse did say that it was bubbling under the surface and the pg has just tipped it over. I should be ok after i have given birth but obviously if I want to avoid it later in life I will have to watch what I eat and drink.

dressedupnowheretogo · 13/06/2006 19:53

sorry to hear about the gest diabetes mick5 poor thing

bhm very jealous of the spending spree 100 very good for a glider

what type of pyjamas or nightdresses are you taking in im very confused on this issue as i want to breast feed but dont know what to take

dressedupnowheretogo · 13/06/2006 19:58

oh and im 30 weeeks today

SnowBoo · 13/06/2006 20:30

Well had scan today and he's a biggie! Already approx weight is 5lb 5oz and he's only 32+4 weeks! So big baby on the way....Shock And if he is too big then a C-section will be on the books Sad. But hopefully once my stitch comes out in 5 weeks he should come early and be a nearly bearable size!!!!

Will now go and catch up on all the news!

SnowBoo · 13/06/2006 20:41

Also, wheres PinkTulips? Or have i missed yet another name change??

sarahlou1uk · 13/06/2006 20:50

Well, my feet have now swollen up and I've got sausages for toes! This didn't happen first time around - mind you, I was pregnant in the winter when it was lovely and cold!

SnowBoo · 13/06/2006 21:06

Swollen feet. Know it well. And i too was heavily pg in the winter with my last two so this time round its a bit of a shock!!

Have decided this is the last time. Can't go though this again so dh is going to find out about the 'snip'. Anyone got any advice on this matter?

freddysays · 13/06/2006 22:26

Funny you should mention the snip Snowboo, my partner always laughs when I mention this to anyone who asks me about the possibility of having more children, he may well laugh but I am thinking its got to be a reality for us. It sounds a bit drastic but I sure as hell do not want to get preg again. Its not that bad but I am not enjoying it as much this time round, I am massive with another 7weeks to go, feet have started to swell, and I know what it means to have a new baby so I feel tired at already thinking about it. iTs crappy being so negative but I keep positive knowing this will be the last time, I will stick to the nuclear family of 2 boys!! I am 99.9% certain of that!!!

If you do hear of any GOOD anecdotes re: the snip I woudl love to pass them on to my nervous and crossed legged other half x x Wink

purpleturtle · 13/06/2006 22:29

I have one fat ankle, but nothing too serious!

Saw someone this morning who told me with great glee that babies born after 3 months of hot weather are likely to be bigger than those born after 3 months of winter weather. I'm pretty sure she was trying to encourage me because my bump is apparently enormous to everyone I meet. Having given birth to an 8lb 15oz baby in January 2003, I didn't actually receive this information as encouragement!

Anyway, I rather enjoy the embarassment of people who ask when I'm due, expecting me to say, 'a couple of weeks' time'! Grin

Eeny - the haircut was fine, but the hairdresser didn't even damp dd's hair to cut it, even though it had been in bunches all day, and had got wet twice. She came back from the hairdressers with the wet hair kinks still in, and the bottom of her bob sticking out at all angles. £6.50 Shock. 10 minutes 'work'. But the main thing is that dd is happy not to have her hair pulled into bobbles every morning for school. Smile

eenywifemum · 13/06/2006 23:22

Purple that's laziness on the hairdressers part (the hair cut thing) At least it looks good and your DD is happy with it!

Snowboo good luck with the big baby! Wow! There are a couple of those here, maybe there is something to the summer babies being bigger thing, purple!

I'll check out kiddicare, it sounds great!
