think it's part 5 anyway!

By 'a change' I mean an alteration in the pattern of the movements you are feeling, and which you are concerned about.

Salamander · 08/06/2006 10:30

So i've had some vampire draw some blood from my vein!!!!!!

Amazing - what a nightmare to get this done! And it's still not over - not until the fat lady sings down the phone to me what my Rhesus status is!

The GP is the nicer of the two at our village surgery - but he seemed off last night - not sure if it was related to our request or not. He didn't make me feel stupid because I know the facts about this - done enough blinking homework!

So I just wait now until Wed/Thur next week. If NEG like Eeny then we will refuse the Anti-D. I can see the midwives not liking that, because of course I might not be the father Angry which is their default setting! Doesn't matter if Eeny and I can vaguely recall who we sleep with! Wink

But in the end we can refuse and Eeny will only have the Anti-D if she needs it!

Roll on next week.....!!!!!

Oh, and Third Trimester tomorrow!!!!!! Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

PinkTulips · 08/06/2006 10:45

they're really making you work aren't they sal? you'd think they'd be glad not to have to spend precious NHS money on unneeded anti-d injections, very strange.

YellowFeathers · 08/06/2006 10:49

Is it true that it costs £25 a test?

My nanna has been trying to get her cholestorol checked and keeps asking but also keeps getting knocked back. My mum seems to think its because of the cost of it.

Do you know anything about that Sal?

olivo · 08/06/2006 10:49

thanks for your help everyone - i've had a couple of flutters which have reassured me a little bit. I think part of the problem is that last week i was on half term and really relaxed, sitting around in the sun and so was more aware of what was happening. This week i've been pretty hectic at work and maybe havent been so conscious of things.
thanks for the link Arabica - i'm 29 wks todayso i guess he/she is beginning to get a bit more cramped in there.
what i would do for a bloody great whack in the ribs!Grin

off to do my duty out on the school field so maybe half an hour in the sun will relax me a bit!

Salamander · 08/06/2006 11:03

Well I don't know a WHOLE lot about the cost of the various pathology elements BUT it would appear to be cost neutral.

If the default setting was they give the Anti-D (just in case the father's identity is uncertain) but there was the option to have a paternal Rhesus check... well a Blood Test against an Anti-D injection... probably not a whole lot of difference.

There just seems to be a general reluctance in this country for letting patients have information. It IS changing, but the NHS is an unwieldy stagnant beast, that needs kicking to get it to shift. There is a lot of young blood, but a hell of a lot of old clotted stuff too!!

I am, OF COURSE, young blood! Wink

Salamander · 08/06/2006 11:19

I've just had a gander on the NICE (NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR CLINICAL EXCELLENCE) website and found some interesting 'guidance'.

If anyone fancies some particularly 'wordy' reading \link{http://www.nice.org.uk/page.aspx?text-size=11&o=31696\here} is the link.

But the interesting part for me was this (and it might be nice to print out and show to your 'maternity care-givers':

  1. Guidance

1.1 It is recommended that routine antenatal anti-D prophylaxis (RAADP) is offered to all non-sensitised pregnant women who are RhD negative.

1.2 The clinician (obstetrician, midwife or general practitioner) responsible for the prenatal care of a non-sensitised RhD-negative woman should discuss with her RAADP and the options available so that the woman can make an informed choice about treatment. This discussion should include the circumstances where RAADP would be neither necessary nor cost effective. Such circumstances might include those where the woman:

@ has opted to be sterilised after the birth of the baby

@ is in a stable relationship with the father of the child, and the father is known or found to be RhD-negative

@ is certain that she will not have another child after her current pregnancy.

I REST MY CASE YOUR HONOUR

Salamander · 08/06/2006 11:34

Oh and i've had a quick look and found that the average cost of a blood test is around £10.
So wieghed against the £25/£30 mark of the Anti-D jab, taking into account resource/staff-time/etc...

Makes sense to me!

Phew - let's get off the subject of blood now shall we?

How is everyone this fine and sunny day????

eenywifemum · 08/06/2006 13:02

haha you can all probably tell Salamander is in a bouyant mood!

First off, Olivo, I really feel for you. How is baby acting now? Ours has done this to me a few times and I have been really panicked but every single time its been alright, he's just been being naughty!! But I agree that if you are really concerned call the midwife and go to have a listen, I've done this a couple of times and each time we found the heartbeat & it put my mind at rest. I was just thinking last night about if I should start counting kicks.

I'm finally at a stage in pregnancy where it feels like there is something to actually DO - write a birthplan, sort the hospital bag, count kicks, whatever... :)

Salamander · 08/06/2006 13:21

Hi Yellow!

Sorry i was SO buoyant that I got confused with the Cholestorol Test Question!

It's a standard blood test so shouldn't cost any more than £20 max.
Most blood tests - and it would appear that Cholestoral ones are simple - cost just a few pounds.

There is just a four hour turnaround time for a Cholestoral test in our Haematology Dept, so it can't be a big bucks issue.

Keep pushing!!!!!!! Can your chemist arrange something? I believe Boots was offering free cholestoral checks...

They also sell Home Test Kits for less than a tenner.

Hope that helps! Tried looking for info on-line and had no luck - sorry!!!!

I'm sure if I had more time - but I am at work :) and should get on with some actual work!!!!!

BigHotMama · 08/06/2006 13:47

Afternoon everyone, hope your all looking swell (not you Sal lol!)

I went to my 1st antenatal class the other night and came away feeling a bit dissapointed as I knew everything they told us and my DH got bit embarassed when they made us get into groups and talk to the other couples. I was hoping to get into the breathing techniques and have some dolls to play with to get the hang of things like bathing baby and changing nappies? Oh well next week they are doing a talk on pain relief and the last one will be the tour, so think I can stick it out!

My ankles have swollen like tree trunks with this heat but luckily got air con in the office today. Would a cold bowl of water help or am I stuck with them?

Am going out with some of my mates tonight who havent seen me in 12 weeks so they are in for a shock when they see my big belly, cant wait to show it off! Grin

I attempt to count baba's kicks but lose track, I know I get loads all the time and have started to feel pushing-type of movements as if baba is having a good stretch, last night had a feeling under my right boob and at the bottom left of my pelvis at the same time so think its gonna be a long baby...everyone who sees me say its gonna be a big'un or a 9lb'er! Shock

31+4 and 5 weeks today I break for Mat leave.

I'm thinking of taking the additional mat leave aswell as normal leave but my work pay me nothing at all for those 6 months, does anybody know if there any other way of getting extra money from any other benefits or tax credits while on the unpaid 6 months????

olivo · 08/06/2006 14:04

hello again!

BHM - I found I knew a lot of what they told us at ante-natal class as well - must be mumsnet keeping us well-educatedWink

well, the baby has had a bit of a wriggle - bizarrely enough during my GCSE childcare lesson - must have known that we were on the right subject! still not as vigourous as before but at least i know something is going on. aaaaagh, i hate all this anxiety! and 11 weeks to go........!!!

eenywifemum · 08/06/2006 14:09

Hi BHM! Sorry I dont know if you are stuck with the swollen ankles but a bowl of cold water wouldnt hurt and its worth a try!! Sounds nice anyway! Have fun with your friends tonight - it is sooo fun showing off the big belly isnt it! Were your antenatal classes the NHS ones? I know where I am delivering a midwife comes around the day after you give birth to show you how to bathe your baby but I really hope that hands on stuff is covered in the classes too.

I dont know about the pay during additional mat leave though...

Ok here is my little joy rant... I got a package today from one of my oldest and best friends in America full of baby things!!! I am waiting for Salamander to get home to unwrap the presents (which trust me is taking some amount of willpower but is worth it!) but I did see this amazing baby blanket she knitted for baby, it is so beautiful!!! It's totally made my day! Just had to share that!

eenywifemum · 08/06/2006 14:20

Olivo - sorry I meant to say as well, glad your baby is moving even if it isnt as strong as you are used to! he/she is probably just in a quiet mood! I agree that pregnancy involves way too much anxiety! Maybe I am totally wrong but I think I will feel a lot calmer when he is out and in my arms.

BigHotMama · 08/06/2006 14:27

Olivo, good to know baba is kicking again, I think as soon as you turn your mind onto something else they always kick, sometimes I'll be willing baba to kick for DH and then as soon as he gives up and I start watching tv again he belts me really hard that I see belly jump out of the corner of my eye lol!

Eeny, how can you resist the wrapped presies? I'd be gagging to open them up and then wrap em back up lol. Blanket sounds lovely, I've had 4 ladies knit me blankets bless! And I've never even met any of them just friends or relatives of my mom and people at work. Just imagine how xmas will be with loads of presie's to open for our LO's how fab! Grin

eenywifemum · 08/06/2006 14:58

BHM - It is HARD!! They are sitting there calling my name but I must be good! although your idea of re-wrapping them is a good one! Grin

lunavix · 08/06/2006 15:20

awww eeny Grin I'm glad it makes up for your nappies.

I am really suffering :( After a rubbish nights sleep Tuesday night I've been struck down with killer hayfever - this happened last year for the first time, and I had to be drugged to the eyeballs to survive my wedding and glastonbury. However drugging to the eyeballs isn't an option now :( (sob) I haven't slept for 3 days!!!! I have homeopathic stuff which is helping a bit but if I rub my eyes I get conjunctivitus so I'm feeling very sorry for myself! I got some bits from the chemist that they said is safe but I'm worried as the leaflet doesn't confirm it! Argh.

Been to midwife for 30 week apt and don't see her again till 38 weeks... it feels like a lifetime! Have a doctors apt at 36 weeks but it's not the same lol. Blood pressures dropped again (55/90 - or is it 90/55? I forget) this pregnancy is just so different to last!

BigHotMama · 08/06/2006 15:40

Eeny - OPEN IT! OPEN IT! OPEN IT! [GRIN] Can you tell I'm all excited for ya? Sure Sal wouldn't mind te he!

Luna sorry your feeling crappy hun, Sad you've really suffered with all sorts havent you? And then not sleeping on top of it all just makes you feel terrible! Hope you get it sorted soon!

My midiwife appointments are every 2 weeks now until the birth? How come you have to wait so long?

sarahlou1uk · 08/06/2006 15:53

Luna - after 32 weeks you should be seeing your mw every two weeks! How come she's fobbed you off until 38 weeks??

YellowFeathers · 08/06/2006 15:54

Gosh Luna. How are you feeling if your BP is that low? Make sure you get lots of rest.

Sal, thanks for that info. I'll pass it on to my nan.

Eeny, OPEN!!!!! Grin

Ok just to let you know something.......

WE MOVE NEXT FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shock Shock Shock Shock

Just found out today!
Have booked removal firm and just paid out a whopping £850 over the phone [insert blackout emoticon here]
So I don't think I'm going to get on here much next week!
I just hope we get internet connection asap!

Oh christ!!!!

sarahlou1uk · 08/06/2006 16:35

Yellow - how come you've had to pay out that much at the start? We moved 2 years ago and only had to pay for one hour as a deposit - we paid the rest at the end of the moving day! Anyway, congratulations on getting a date - now you've just got to pack everything! NIGHTMARE!!! Shock Grin

BigHotMama · 08/06/2006 16:52

Congrats YF on getting a date at last for the move! Hope you dont have to be off MN for too long tho! Wink

olivo · 08/06/2006 18:02

well done, YF, will send you positive packing vibes Grin

purpleturtle · 08/06/2006 18:59

Luna - I think your bp is probably 90/55 rather than the other way round. I'm generally around 90/60, although last time I'd got that top number over 100!
I'm another one asking why your appointments aren't closer together at this stage.

Happy packing Yellowfeathers. When we moved we had to pay in full up front as well - at least a week before IIRC. Not that unusual, just expensive.

Have been for another massage at the ante-natal clinic today. Heavenly. And I had my photo taken for use by the MW in some presentation she's doing. Never been a model before Grin. (Never again, no doubt).

Now have a pram in the house. A friend is lending us hers. I'm really excited, because I only had a from-birth stroller for the first two, and this one has a proper pram bit, and rear faces, and everything! Think a 3rd baby needs every opportunity for a bit of a natter, and he/she'll probably have to nap in it too so that I can just head out to collect the others at appropriate times.
