I'm 20 weeks today! So happy to have reached the halfway point....and only 2 more days til my scan...can't come quick enough! :-)

Fozziebearmum2b · 06/05/2013 08:14

Welcome herewego, I've had the same people asking if its planned-what an unbelievable personal question Blush I've recently got married and people seem v interested and like to quote back to me how many months it took me....cheek!

Congrats on 20 wks-I'm a couple of days off and have my scan on Thurs. Dh and I have always said we won't find out the sex, but I'm starting to crack! It'll be hard to think that me and him won't know but the sonographer prob will and not sure how I'll not ask! I don't really want to know-would rather the surprise and Dh doesn't so we'll wait....I think Smile

frogchops · 06/05/2013 08:35

We are coming to the final few scans!! Exciting! I have my consultant appt on thurs and I think I get another scan at 28 weeks (or is it 30?) due to high downs risk. Luckily the nhs dismiss any private tests and so still treat me as high risk.

ION DP and I are trying to think of something to do for my 30th at end August. I know I'll be huge by then so might be worth planning something for 2/3 weeks before. I'm thinking going away somewhere as it will be our last as a twosome! I. This country tho, I think as I'm unsure about flying that late on and cost is obviously an issue! Any ideas?

Readytosettle · 06/05/2013 08:50

They won't let u fly that late even if u wanted to frog. Perhaps a nice spa break instead?

JammyTummy · 06/05/2013 08:51

Interesting story about how our bodies adjust to giving birth regardless if we are big or small (or in this case, the bodies of ponies and horses):: scientists carried out a research to see whether having big (in our case read 'tall') parents means big foals. They found that if both mummy and daddy horse were big, baby horse came out really big. If daddy was a pony but mummy was a big Clydesdale for example, the baby again comes out XL, but and here's the trick, if the daddy is a Clydesdale but mummy is a little pony the baby comes out really small to allow for good birth and no damage to mum, but then grows at an increased rate to its peers to catch up with daddy size!

Mother Nature is looking after us Smile

Do mentioned centre parcs as their spa is lovely. But most of it I can't do, most massages are out, steam rooms are out and I couldn't have anyone touch my feet! Plus the activities don't really lend themselves to heavily pregnant ladies :-/

frogchops · 06/05/2013 08:57

Haha jammy I love that analogy! Both DP and I are ponies....what happens then?! My mum is a pony too, I was only 5lb 9 born. DP was 8lb 1. I'd rather push a 5lber out!

JammyTummy · 06/05/2013 08:58

frog I think we're going to have a little break about july/ August time somewhere in the uk too. We're thinking of taking the dogs and going for a road trip up to north of Scotland. We did it two years ago and it was really fun!

I'm going to be 6 months next Tuesday! I cannot believe it. Not long to go now!

On the baby size front, I'm 5 ft 6 and DH is 6ft - I've had an 8lb er and an 8lb 4 so far... Hoping this one doesn't crack the 9lb barrier! Although I suppose if you have a 9lb and not a 5lb baby that's 4lb you don't have to diet away Wink

Creamtea1 · 06/05/2013 09:37

And on that front..have done my weekly weigh in - another 2lbs on! Which makes 23lbs on at nearly 23 weeks...gah..good job sept - Xmas is wintery clothes and good for covering up post baby fat!
Therefore I retain the weight gain crown Grin

CharlW1 · 06/05/2013 09:48

I nearly joining you creamtea with the weight gain crown - I'm at 22lb and coming up to 23 weeks! As you said at least we can cover up over xmas!

Last minute hols in this country - I love Cornwall (me and OH are just on our way back after a lovely weekend) or the Lake District. I love going to a place in the Lakes called Troutbeck and an old traditional inn called the Queens Head - ithas 4 poster beds, is very relaxing and does the most amazing food - it's fairly near Windermere. Haven't been for a couple of years but is worth a look up.

Fozziebearmum2b · 06/05/2013 10:54

Aww love Windermere! So beautiful :-)

We've just come back from Cornwall (St Ives) first proper holiday in UK since I was about 10 (other than weekends away) and loved it! Cream teas almost every day which lo loved -kept wriggling away. So lovely and relaxing def recommend it if anyone fancies a relaxing break in UK pre baby Smile

badguider · 06/05/2013 11:05

I've put on 20lbs at 22+4 weeks so it looks like there are loads of us at about that point.
Interestingly about 8lbs of that went on in the first six weeks when I had a massive hormonal bloating and boob growing phase and it's been far more steady since then.

badguider · 06/05/2013 11:06

oh and having not felt much movement at all (anterior placenta), went to see Ironman3 last night and the wee boy wriggled like mad through all the loud bits!
hope i haven't done his hearing any harm but i guess it must be muffled in there - maybe it was more the vibrations from the massive dolby sound system?

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 06/05/2013 11:19

By the way I got something called the Clippasafe Bump Belt off amazon. It keeps the belt off the bump and especially is quite useful when driving.
Just thought I'd share Smile

frogchops · 06/05/2013 11:37

I don't get this weight gain lark.... Since bfp I've put on about 9/10 pounds. But I'm huge. How does that work?

Cornwall sounds good, just hope wether will be....any suggestions of where to stay?

JammyTummy · 06/05/2013 12:16

badguider I read recently that buba's hearing is quite well developed by now, and that they can get startled by loud noises and give you a good kick for it, however, I don't think there's any way you've done it any harm!

My baby has been doing this new fun thing whereby it kicks me right in the bladder Hmm. Strange sensation, almost like someone squeezes it for a quick second from the inside!

I've put on 11lbs at 23 weeks, and thought I was doing really well given original weight/ height until I looked at one of those daft weight calculator charty things which claims I'm over my limit. Sod it I say!

OP posts:
Creamtea1 · 06/05/2013 13:24

Jammy dont worry about it, I'm 7lb over my recommended limit too and I was getting so stressed about it but have just started to accept there's nothing I can do aside from keep active and eat healthily as best I can. I'm certainly not eating anywhere near as much as in my first 2 pregnancies so that in itself is a good thing. Having lost 3 stone in about 8 months doing low carb prior to getting pregnant I know I can do it again if necessary - infact will probably be that same 3 stone! Am still wearing a lot of my usual clothes, or a size up (my fatter clothes Smile) so telling myself it can't be too bad!

Fozziebearmum2b · 06/05/2013 13:36

Frog-we stayed in a little place called Hayle which is about 10 mins in the car from St Ives (beautiful fishing port town). Went to Padstow too (Rick Stein country) which looks lovely too-and had lovely fish n chips! Smile

juniper9 · 06/05/2013 14:19

Quick panic on my part... has anyone else knocked their bump and then had pain afterwards?

Last night my 'D'P grabbed me from behind for an impromptu cuddle, and ended up whacking me across my bump with his forearm. It was quite hard and made me lose my footing.

During the night I've had a dull ache on my right side. No cramps and no bleeding, but it's still worried me. I don't want to call my midwife if I'm just being neurotic over nothing... Sad

Kittenkatzen · 06/05/2013 14:52

juniper are you feeling movement yet? If so has it changed/slowed at all? I'm sure everything's fine, the baby is pretty well protected in there - maybe you've bruised yourself though? I think you should call the midwife for reassurance anyway, a worried mummy isn't good for baby either Smile

Oooh frog what about a nice country house hotel in the Lakes/Cornwall/lovely place of choice! Somewhere with a yummy restaurant and maybe a spa (float in the pool, a nice facial, manicure) and some nice gardens to wander in...or if you fancy the lakes I can recommend a really lovely B&B right by Bassenthwaite lake between Keswick and Cockermouth :)

jammy that's really interesting about the foal sizes. Although I am slightly bricking it now as both DH and I are 5'10" and we've already been told our baby is a chubster! Confused

On the weight gain front, Ive put on exactly a stone at 21+4, I think it's been pretty steady gain though so I'm not too worried yet!

JammyTummy · 06/05/2013 15:26

juniper I would not hesitate to call the MW, that's what they're there for, and they never tire of tellin me that if I'm at all concerned to call rather than worry (although I'm sure that your little person is absolutely fine).

Frog there are list of lovely places to go in Cornwall - I love St Ives - although just outside of St Ives there is a little place called Lelant which is lovely. As Fozzie says Hayle is a great place too. Also I love Falmouth, Padstein (Padstow) and Fowy. My parents live in Cornwall (although we are originally from the Midlands) and I just love going down to see them - it completely feels like you're getting away from all the stress of everything - even if I just go for a long weekend Smile

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 06/05/2013 17:43

Hi all, think it has been ages since I last posted ... Nothing going on really! We went out for a bike ride today, I'm thoroughly exhausted! Did about 12 miles along canal path, really pretty but quite bumpy and narrow - and I am not your most proficient of cyclists! Grin I gave myself a bash in the fanjo (not deliberately!) when trying to get back on the saddle after push/waddling over a bridge. Ow!

Bump has been wriggling since I have been back and relaxing in the garden, off to have a bath later so hope I won't have too achey legs/back tomorrow.

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 06/05/2013 17:45

Bit late perhaps but juniper yes I would call if you have any pain or noticed change in movements. Hope it is nothing though.

And welcome herewego!
