Cheese of course I will let this gang know Smile
Quite excited about the scan now, it was only £60 too

MammaGnomes · 05/05/2013 09:38

Frog I am so pleased you have brought this up!! My mum is throwing me a baby shower (she's v excited) and a few people have suggested I do a list - John Lewis do one that is similar to a wedding list!
I'm rubbish at asking for things at birthdays etc i always say suprise me and end up with stuff I would never use!! So for that reason I think it's great however part of me still feels cheeky about expecting people to buy us gifts! It's a hard one

andadietcoke · 05/05/2013 09:49

My SiL had a JL gift list when she had her first 8 years ago. As she was the first person I knew having a baby I thought that was completely normal. I've never known anyone do it since. We have a list, but it's for us, and for budgeting purposes only, and then DH's parents have given us money towards a buggy. If anyone asks what to get us (if everything continues to be okay) then I think we'll ask for the things we'll need lots of eg sleepsuits and vests.

Kittenkatzen · 05/05/2013 10:43

Hmmm yeah it's a difficult one, I can see why people find it useful and don't tend to bat an eyelid at people having wedding lists. Wouldn't occur to me to do one for a baby though, and I probably would raise a passing eyebrow if I'm honest. Can't say it particularly offends me to the point of some of the other threads frog mentioned though - I mean, it's still personal choice as to whether anyone buys off it right, nobody's being held to ransom! Smile

ION we have woken up to a gas leak this morning....we rent our house and have called the agency's emergency number and left a voicemail, but no response yet after 45 mins so far HmmAngry

TripleRock · 05/05/2013 10:46

Hi everyone!

Been off MN for a couple of weeks, so it's been lovely to catch up with everyone's news.

Ended up having a bit of a tumble down a slope on Friday night, and although all seems fine, hospital MWs gave me an extra anti d injection just to be on the safe side.

Anyone else rh- ?

jennimoo · 05/05/2013 11:31

Hope you're ok after your tumble triple. I was talking about anti d to DH in the car on Friday (after a rather hard bit of breaking) and was reminding him of the fact I'd need it if i had an accident from about now but couldn't remember exactly when from.

badguider · 05/05/2013 11:42

Frog - i'm all for a basic list that has things we still don't have yet on it but I wouldn't take a list with a specific shop or with specific brands on it because of so much stuff coming 2nd hand or borrowed (I believe in re-using as much stuff as possible, no idea if we'll have a second baby so this reduces waste and - even more importantly - clutter).
If something we borrow or are given 2nd hand turns out to not really suit us (e.g. pram has small wheels and we usually walk on rough surfaces) then I'll try it for a bit then pass it back/on and get something that does suit.

Triple I am rh- (O-) but so far luckily no mishaps. I have a bit of a bump but it's nothing like enough to affect my balance yet or get in the way if I were to fall so I am not too nervous yet. Unfortunately DH doens't know his blood type so don't know if baby could be +ve or not (if father is -ve too then baby will be and it's not such a worry).

jennimoo · 05/05/2013 12:02

I think even if your bumps small you should contact MW if you knock it badly or have even a small car accident (seat belt can cause bleeding inside...) so you can have an extra anti d, although you get a couple of shots at various points in pg anyway. I've got my first at 28 weeks this time.
DD was tested as being -ve at birth so I didn't need another shot then.

badguider · 05/05/2013 14:05

Yes, sorry for any confusion jennimoo i didn't mean i wouldn't but what i mean is that because my bump is small i can't really 'knock' it - it's protected by my ribs and hip bones.

even at 22 weeks it'll be a while longer before my seatbelt doesn't mainly sit across my hip bones too.

[by the way, i am not super-skinny, my hips and ribs are just expanding with my torso :)]

fl0b0t · 05/05/2013 15:23

triple I'm rh neg too, did I miss something about needing extra anti d injections if you have an accident?

I think that a baby list makes perfect sense! I try v hard to buy practical pressies for friends with new babies (with strict instructions to exchange it if they want) but I know that lots if people just buy an ugly plastic toy or 0-3 baby grow which isn't necessarily helpful.

CharlW1 · 05/05/2013 16:01

I'm rh neg and have to gave the anti d at28 weeks but was told if I have a bleed or a bang (from 16 weeks onwards) that I will get it too.

Re. Lists - I have been to some great baby showers and I think lists are really good if someone asks what to get you but I don't think I'd be putting the lists in with the invite as it can seem a bit cheeky.

Rh- info above.

I have a card from the Scottish blood service to keep in my wallet in case I'm in a big accident.
Basically they inject you if there's any chance the baby has bled as your body will take against the +ve blood. They also inject you before birth as your blood and the baby's blood will likely mix then and you will make antibodies that will still be there if you get pregnant again.

badguider · 05/05/2013 17:13

Sorry. Proper link www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Rhesus-disease/Pages/Causes.aspx

frogchops · 05/05/2013 17:15

Forgot to say that I booked a meeting at work the other day when some fool pipes up and asks if I'll have finished work to have the baby by then. I wouldn't mind but we booked it for June 25th! I wish! She then told me I was massive for 20 weeks and she looked like me at full term. Thanks for that. :-/

CharlW1 · 05/05/2013 17:26

Great link badguider I have anti cw in my blood to and have to carry a card around wIth me that says I am rh neg and have anti cw. I got the anti cw from having a miscarriage last year when mine and the babies blood mixed. I just need extra blood tests and the consultant is keeping an eye on me but he said to me it is just one of those things and both me and baby should be fine, although she will be more susceptible to jaundice when she is born.

CharlW1 · 05/05/2013 17:30

frog with that and them saying about pregnancy related sickness - the people at your work sound delightful! Hmm

I was told by someone I hadn't seen for ages 'God you are going to be massive' I was stumped at what to say in response.

frogchops · 05/05/2013 17:43

My manager is actually very nice, but is still my manager and has a bit of a hidden agenda in making sure work stuff will be fine when I've gone...but everyone else (45 other women) are vile. A good 85% of them I wouldn't pee on if they were on fire are really horrible people. At least 5/6 haven't even acknowledged my pregnancy let alone congratulated me, 3/4 of them refused to help me carry something down the stairs and one even suggested I'd be ok to carry a microwave (!!) on my own downstairs (she had a back she said). This of course has nothing to do with the fact that she's a horrible, fat, nasty piece of work.

KamikazeeKid · 05/05/2013 18:34

charl my response would be...well im pregnant whats your excuse?? Obviously not going to work on a skinny person though...

I have learnt well from my previous pregnancy about witty or cutting come backs...after all its the only time you can use hormones as an excuse if needed!

Worst thing I'm getting at moment is - oh u r pregnant? But you've only just returned to work and you'll be off within a year??

Amazingly that comment is voiced by managers. ..I always say oh I guess what you meant to say is congratulations! !!!

Drives me mad as I had such heartache ttc-ing for ds1 and dc2 was always a question mark I feel do lucky but these manager's make me feel awful.

When pregnant with ds1 I was repeatedly told by one lady that I needed more checks due bump size...im exactly same size with this dc and she tells me im fine. ...[rolls eyes!] everyone either turns into a medical expert or a serial gropper....

I was always told to try bursting into tears with unwanted medical advice as usually throws the person and gropers? Grope them back.... I've tried that and it works a treat. [GRIN]

KamikazeeKid · 05/05/2013 18:35

Excuse typos and grammar - speed typing on phone!

herewego2 · 05/05/2013 21:09

Hello, first time for typing on here, though I have been reading for a bit. I think I'm really lucky to be in same group as you guys as you are all rather top. As for these people who can't say anything nice, I just don't know what's wrong with them. Surely 'congratulations' with a big smile is about right? My boss asked me if it was planned! Though I am married and this is my second child, I did feel like saying that it was from a terrible mistake of a one night stand.... just to see what he said. As for size of bump... they can all go take a hike ladies. Bump size is going to be as individual as our glorious babies are. Feel better for that.
Anybody else starting to feel a bit grumpy when deep down they know they wouldn't usually?

KamikazeeKid · 05/05/2013 23:08

Welcome here we go!

I keep getting really short with DH and know thats just hormones as very laid back usually. He's not dealing with pregnancy well as last time - I had no urgent cravings, bodily complaints or temper issues!!

My biggest regret was not attempting to pretend I was suffering as this time I'm suffering with my back, pelvis, hormonal outbreaks with a short fuse, am emotional wreck etc etc!! Ha ha so my advice to anyone on dc1 is - milk it a little even if you are feeling great as it may bite you in the bum when it comes to dc2! Hubby thinks I should be the same again even though I have a toddler, full time work, a bump and an annoying husband to contend with..... Grin

CheeseStrawCraving · 05/05/2013 23:14

Welcome herewego2! I think we're all rather ace on here, open minded and friendly! Frog your work sounds awful, I'm dying to know what you do for a living now! People have been making lovely comments to me about giving birth, notably because we are both fairly tall that I will be giving bIrth to a giant child and that it will hurt like hell... Ok so we have already been told baby is large by mw but really no need to comment on the labour part, trying v hard not to concentrate on that part myself so anybody else bringing it up can go away. Ooh ranty pants, sorry!

CheeseStrawCraving · 05/05/2013 23:15

Ha, great advice kamikazee, have just asked DH to get me more water as v comfy in bed!

herewego2 · 05/05/2013 23:28

Funny that CheeseStraw, as I get comments as I'm 5'1'' that I wont be able to 'carry it as well'. We must all just trust that our bodies have sorted it it all out. Have never had a Cheese Straw and will get one tomorrow.
Kamikazee, that all sounds very familiar. How much sleep I get is becoming vital, speaking of which I'm off to bed, night!

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 06/05/2013 07:16

Morning! My toddler seems to be waking at 5.30am every day now, that's pretty hard going. I feel constantly exhausted.
