Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
kipsonline · 27/05/2013 21:13

Lovely photo flo, I think I have finally managed to add one of my bump at 26 weeks to MN profile, can you see it??? I'm feeling like a weeble now!!
Our houseswap seems to be a success, would def recommend for a free holiday :) lovely day on the beach today, if a bit windy!!
Has anyone else got major pain between their legs? Feels like I have been cycling for 2 weeks solidly, am having to shuffle... Could this be SPD?? V localised and not in hips tho... Never had any probs in previous 2 pgs.... Grrr
Y to swollen feet too, the joys!!

frogchops · 27/05/2013 21:30

Baby boy born in corrie.... Cue stupidly emotional frog snivelling over a magnum. Blush

herewego2 · 27/05/2013 22:19

Mrs Mango - is this the foot cream you meant? Menthol and eucalyptos?www.amazon.co.uk/Vaseline-feet-Legs-Menthol-Eucalyptus/dp/B009RLY1FS/ref=pd_vtp_d_2

herewego2 · 27/05/2013 22:21

Emotional Frog ..... aaaahhh, I'm with you. Was the same over my son's cartoon this evening. xxx

CheeseStrawCraving · 28/05/2013 00:52

Ooh frog I bought the blue and white stars one from mamas and papas for £36... DH didn't bat an eyelid as I have bought everything second hand so far. I'm picking my battles!!

MrsMangoBiscuit · 28/05/2013 06:29

herewego2, yes! That's it, thank you. Lovely stuff, soothing and cooling and helps the swelling to go down. Didn't think to try amazon, can't seem to get my head to remember they just don't sell books! Blush

Mooster1709 · 28/05/2013 10:37

kips your pain sounds exactly like mine, which they've diagnosed as SPD. I wander around clutching my fanjo whenever I'm at home. DH thinks I'm strange.

Went a bit mad on kiddisave yesterday and have a massive delivery on its way. Then got paranoid that I was tempting fate by buying too much too early (nearly 27 weeks).

HettySunshine · 28/05/2013 11:49

If it's any consolation Mooster, DP and I have almost everything now, the baby's hospital bag is packed (and packed away! - I haven't actually got it by the door yet or anything), the changing table has been built and is being used for storage and all the baby clothes we have bought or been given have been washed and put away.

I do like to be organised! Wink

Hope you are all feeling okay and not to achy and painy x

HettySunshine · 28/05/2013 11:52

Oh, and I'm only 24+4! Shock

Readytosettle · 28/05/2013 11:59

We've got the baby wardrobe filling up already, cot is ready to assemble & pram will be delivered on Friday. Just 23 weeks so no bag packed yet, but give me a couple more weeks & that'll be done too.

ION went to view a nursery this morning & DH described it as 'the single most scary 30 mins of his life'.... I think I have to agree. Got another one this avo, at the moment I'm veering towards a childminder...

Kittenkatzen · 28/05/2013 13:11

Loving everyone's shopping updates!

Those super organised ladies who have packed hospital bags already - what have you included? Everyone seems to have tips on what they see as "essentials", but if I follow everyone's advice I'll need a suitcase (Colleen Rooney style!). Be interested to know what you've all gone for if you don't mind sharing :)

Right.....I'm off to start a thread in baby names - wish me luck!

kimjayne · 28/05/2013 13:29

just a quick question for all those doing NCT classes rather than NHS! I am missing the NHS class in my area unfortunately due to dates clashing so I am booked onto NCT only. Obviously this doesn't include a tour of our hospital/maternity ward! So I am trying to arrange this myself. It's a total nightmare, nobody ever answers the phone and when they do they are useless! It's really frustrating and I just wondered if anyone else is having similar issues? All this difficulty getting in contact with the ward is making me feel quite nervous about the hospital choice we have made! :(

RunningBear78 · 28/05/2013 13:46

oof took a while to catch up from the weekend! We have come home loaded with donated baby things from a friend. Now the proud owners of a cot, baby bath, steriliser, breast pump, a gigantic bag of nappies and clothes, a bumbo (apparently invaluable, although i've never heard of them), high chair and travel cot! We unloaded the car and it all practically filled the living room ... cue panic by dh and myself. oh and a pile of books too.

With all this stuff it is really starting to feel a bit real.

On the bra front, I've stuck with underwired soft t-shirt bras from m&s and they have been fine. I've bought a new one every month so far, so I know they fit well. I can't imagine having non-underwired with these puppys! I was advised not to buy nursing bras until a few weeks before the birth as i should expect to change size again then ... sigh.

RunningBear78 · 28/05/2013 13:48

Kim are you going to Stepping Hill or into Manchester (is that St Marys')? Stepping Hill does tours a few evenings a week at 6.30, you don't need to book in or anything.

Readytosettle · 28/05/2013 13:49

kimjayne my hospital doesn't offer tours of the unit. It's an online 'virtual tour'. Might be worth checking so u don't waste your time calling for something that may not exist!

jennimoo · 28/05/2013 13:53

They don't do tours here any more either, I think there's a virtual one though.

Apart from it helping me know where to go on the day I don't know how much it actually helped to go round though. Might have helped DH get his head around what was going to happen though.

badguider · 28/05/2013 13:54

LOL ready at your nursery reaction - was it not good then?

My Dh was also scared by nursery but only because he said it made him feel totally inadequate as a parent and that our LO will far prefer to be at nursery with all the fun activities than at home with us!!!

In some ways I worried it might be a touch over-stimulating but as we're only using it two days a week I think that's ok. For five days a week I might prefer somewhere more calm. Also, we have done all our visits at 4pm, I am sure it's lovely and calm during nap times, and the one we've chosen has walks in the park and free-play in the giant garden twice a day too.

kimjayne · 28/05/2013 14:02

we are with Wythenshawe hospital! I have been told by our midwife that they offer tours and some are in the evening but you need to book onto them and when we saw her last week she said that they are already filling up! So I have been desperately trying to get booked into one. It's hard enough finding time to call the hospital during the day whilst I am at work anyway. So having to call again and again (and getting no bloody answer) is driving me up the wall! gggrrrhhhh :( sorry! Rant over

RunningBear78 · 28/05/2013 14:16

kim i'd say swap to stepping hill if you can as they have been really excellent so far, but then I'd have another person to fight for the water birthing pools Wink

Readytosettle · 28/05/2013 14:57

badguider it was one of these old houses & there was a gross smell throughout. There were babies everywhere & it was extremely noisy....plus the staff weren't the best linguists shall we say. I decided on the spot that a childminder would be better. But then we went to a lovely one this afternoon where the kids had plenty of space & it was soo much calmer. Plus the staff were much brighter/bubblier/better communicators. So now I do want to book baby in, but it's £1360 per month & that is very scary indeed....plus I'd convinced DH that a childminder might be a better option after the morning experience so now he thinks we should spend more time thinking about it ....

frogchops · 28/05/2013 15:03

Feeling completely inadequate and shit at the thought Of everyone finishing nurseries an filling wardrobes. Our furniture isn't even ordered yet let alone here, built and filled. The room isn't even emptied, decorated, carpeted. Oh my.
Also I don't even have a hospital bag let alone a filled one!! Confused Oh my.

Joskar · 28/05/2013 15:14

Thanks for the advice and support from MrsMangoBiscuit.

I went to see the midwife on Friday and she was horrified at the state of me. I had to take himself with me because I can't drive or walk. She got on the phone to the consultant obstetrician and managed to get me an appointment for Mon 27th. I went in yesterday (again accompanied by himself) and he was also horrified. He immediately got me an appointment with a proper physio who spent over an hour assessing me and making a proper diagnosis.

The upshot being that it isn't "just a bit of back pain" and it isn't "normal in pregnancy" and it isn't something I "just have to put up with" which is what the first physio said. It turns out that I have fallen arches (which I knew because I've had them since I was wee) and this has meant that my ankles are twisted so my knees are twisted so my femur is twisted and all the muscles that link my legs to my pelvis are under loads of strain and the SI joints are all rubbing which is why I have been in excruciating pain that just keeps getting worse. I'm getting referred to an osteotherapist and the good physio gave me a belt that fits and repositioned it properly.

The pain won't go away totally and I still won't be able to do the garden/hoover etc but I will be able to walk and probably sleep for longer than an hour before the pain wakes me. I might even be able to go back to work before the baby is born which is a huge relief.

I'm torn between being really angry with the first physio who gave me such terrible advice and made me weep and just so grateful to my midwife, the obstetrician and the world's-most-wonderful physio.

Anyone suffering from SPD/PGP needs to get a proper diagnosis immediately, IMO. I left it a bit too long and so ended up suffering when it turns out that proper physiotherapy can make a huge difference. The advice about keeping your legs together and a plastic bag on the car seat etc is great but you need to see a proper physiotherapist too.

EmmaDee · 28/05/2013 15:15

Frog I am in exactly the same position as you, have bought nothing, our proposed baby room is still an office and I have no furniture! Ugh.

So glad to hear alot of you atre still in underwired bras, I couldnt deal with the no support thing so just sticking with good fitting normal ones for the moment!

RunningBear78 · 28/05/2013 15:16

frog don't worry - you are not alone! We are in totally the same position, needing to empty, re-plaster and decorate the nursery before finding stuff to put in it. Don't panic or feel inadequate - we have MONTHS to go before the bubs arrive, it will all be fine, we've loads of time Grin

badguider · 28/05/2013 15:19

Oh dear - that sounds scary, but glad the second nursery was better.

Are you looking for full-time care?

I think if I was looking at full-time I might think about childminder. But we're going for only 2days a week (plus one optional shorter day with MIL) so the nurseries we've looked at are like baby & toddler heaven! Really big georgian houses in their own grounds/gardens with so much play equipment / softplay, painting and messy play and trampolines and ride-ons etc... hopefully will save me for ever having to actually go to softplay or have glitter glue in the house Grin
