Welcome herewego2 Lovely to have you with us Grin

Anywhere down south Frog for most chance of sunshine and warmth!! We're going to the Isle of Wight for a week at the end of May (from Liverpool) and I can't wait!!

Anyone having trouble finding out how much maternity pay you'll get? There's loads of info about SMP (which I could say in my sleep) and work have told me how much I'll get each month gross, but were 'too busy' to work out the tax and NI deductions, so the info is pretty useless. Luckily I've got a friend who works for HM tax who I've asked for some help but I think it's ridiculous that there isn't a simple guide to understanding tax and NI for maternity pay (and I've googled a lot!!!) Am I missing something?

ION, been outside a lot today and have very pink arms and chest, true that we pregnant ladies get sunburnt more easily!

Kittenkatzen · 06/05/2013 18:53

dorita I am feeling your sunburn pain - I have properly roasted my lower legs and upper arms this afternoon, ouch Sad

frogchops · 06/05/2013 18:56

Thanks for all the Cornwall advice! Am thinking of somewhere pretty central to 'stuff' as I'm not the best at walking places now let alone at 30 + weeks! As long as there's something to see and lovely places to eat I'm happy. Thought about haven park type thing but worried it might be v expensive as its still school hols, but then I'm guessing everywhere will be :-/ lovely country hotel sounds nice too, I'd love a facial, manicure etc.

I recommend st. Ives if you like dining out frog...loads of restaurants & lots of little art galleries/ jewellery shops to poke about in. We stayed at blue skies b&b last summer and it was lovely! Beaches are gorgeous too.

herewego2 · 06/05/2013 19:44

Thanks for warm welcomes! CharlW1 I've been to Troutbeck and the Queens Head and really agree, its some of the best food I''ve ever had and the whole area is gorgeous.
Jammy Tummy, loving the horsey info.
Gorgeous day today, just right for pregnant women.

Fozziebearmum2b · 06/05/2013 19:46

Dorita-I work in HR (thankfully not payroll!!) but find it difficult for anyone in payroll to work out tax/NI deductions at work as it takes a while (the tax calculation depends on your tax code and this may change between now and when your mat leave starts so any estimate may be outdated so they're probably reluctant to commit to anything).

A quick calculation is your (gross pay for the month / 3) x 2. As if you're on a normal tax code (ie under the lower earnings limit) then your tax/NI comes to around a third of your gross earnings. It's not exact but will give you a pretty good idea.

Obviously after April you'll get a new tax allowance for the new financial year and as maternity leave is pretty poor Hmm then you should get more of your gross pay.

Hope this helps Smile

So glad someone else has been to the Queens Head in Troutbeck herewego it really is such a lovely part of the wotkd send agree the food is amazing!

Really wish I had the rest of the week off to relax - have had such a lovely bank holiday.

Though bit worried about bump movements - yesterday I had some really strong kicks but today hardly anything. Hoping I get some kicks later - I know it's completely normal but I'm such a worrier.

JammyTummy · 06/05/2013 20:56

I've never been to St Ives and thought from all your descriptions it sounds lovely. Typed it into google map to see if maybe DH and I could maybe go there for our little uk break. Turns out its the single furthest away place in the uk to get to from Edinburgh. Cancel that plan!

Yes jammy its not a short hop! I'm in the midlands and I'll still have to beg DP to go that far!

JammyTummy · 06/05/2013 20:59

Ps I ordered that book 'The Antenatal Group' that was getting advertised at the bottom of our thread. Looks like a good trashy chick lit book to take on holiday. Will report on whether its any good!

Happy bank hol everyone! Not posted on for ages but im 20 weeks today too Readytosettle. And my scan is on Wednesday the same as yours...9:00am. Have been given the 23rd sept as my edd does that tie in with yours, it would be nice to have a buddy.

I love all this talk of Cornwall, off to Hayle on Saturday and already dreaming of the lovely boutique shops i can visit in St Ives now!

CheeseStrawCraving · 06/05/2013 23:05

Re holiday stuff, we were given The Sun codes by a friend for booking a holiday for cheap, we've managed to get a week in July (mon to fri) for £90 for the two of us and puppy in a static caravan right on the beach in North Devon... DH can roll out of bed and surf, I can chill with some chick lit and walk the dog. Not bad for £45 each! Might be worth a try? Ps have got the codes if anyone wants them. Can pm them! Don't know what's left but there were hundreds of options around the country.

KamikazeeKid · 06/05/2013 23:42

Out of interest my fellow low lying placenta mums. ... Have you had a previous section or a d&c? Was reading up on it today and didn't realise there was a link... I've had emcs and had to have a d&c following a mmc a couple of years ago.

Readytosettle · 07/05/2013 05:53

astroming my edd is 23rd too & my scan is at 9am! We are indeed buddies :-)

CharlW1 · 07/05/2013 06:00

Kami I had a d&c following an mmc lastyear! I had no idea of the connection with a low lying placenta - that's really interesting.

kimjayne · 07/05/2013 07:20

It's funny you should all be talking about st ives. I've been trying to find a nice b&b around that area for a few days in July. I've never been to Cornwall. I don't suppose anyone knows a nice b&b near the centre?

frogchops · 07/05/2013 07:43

Cheese. Those codes would be great please, I'm looking at stuff and realising that some if the places we just can't afford (or rather we could, but could probably get a week in Spain for the same price!!)

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 07/05/2013 07:50

Just checking in and caught up. Just back from a wee holiday at bowness on Windermere and I agreed that its a lovely part of the country. Dd turned 1 when we were away so it was special.

It's a bit late but thanks for all the comments about having another DD, I'm feeling a lot better about it. I only have a brother and don't know what it's like to have a sister but I'm very close to my mum. She has 3 sisters and mil has 2 and they are both really excited as they know what it's like and how they'll grow up together etc.

I've been feeling lots of kicks and movement now for weeks and can see it when I'm lying flat on my back. Makes it feel more real as this baby was a bit of a surprise!!

flipflump · 07/05/2013 08:17

I've woken up on my front this morning, now in a major panic that I've hurt baby. Can someone reassure me? I usually only feel movement in the evening (anterior placenta) and need a bit of reassurance. I've been so calm since my scan and got over worrying about everything, now I'm back to being a stress head!!! Hmm

We spent the bank hol in London (we moved from London to the midlands last year) catching up with friends and visiting our usual haunts before baby arrives. It was so humid, I really struggled on the tube. Made me realise how much easier my life is now and how much harder it would be, being pregnant in London.

badguider · 07/05/2013 08:43

flip - the antenatal physio talk I went to said don't worry about how you sleep unless it gives you pain or pins and needles. Front sleeping is fine all the way through if its comfortable and back sleeping can give you poor circulation in your legs and feel weird but if it doesn't then that's ok too. She said only worry about propping onto your left side if you're having problems with feeling comfortable and getting dizzy or if you're getting signs of poor circulation - swelling, cramp etc.

Fozziebearmum2b · 07/05/2013 08:45

Flip-I keep waking up on my back with horrible pressure feeling in my tummy. Think it's my bodies way of waking me up when Im in a position baby doesn't like. Reckon if you'd hurt your baby your body would have woken you. Do you have any pain or anything else?

flipflump · 07/05/2013 08:52

Thank you ladies, that is so helpful and good to hear. I can get on with my day now and stop worrying. I've not had any pain or discomfort, so I guess my body and baby were quite happy. I love mumsnet and having all you wonderful ladies to talk to!!!

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 07/05/2013 09:07

Flip I sleeping mostly on my front with a leg up and did a large part of the way through my last pregnancy and everything was fine.

I wonder if this is restless leg or not, maybe you ladies can advise. It's a dull achey pain which is in my right leg at the top of my thigh at the back, like behind the bone. It sort of radiates down past my knee sometimes. I don't have it all the time and it feels like when you've been sitting in one position too long or if you'd been sitting on something like a toy or remote!

I've not got the midwife till the 23rd and wasn't sure if I should be doing anything about it or if it was even pregnancy related Confused

Creamtea1 · 07/05/2013 11:23

I am still in shock from 8.35am - one of the school mums said to my face that I 'definetly looked like a beached whale now' ShockShockShock

JammyTummy · 07/05/2013 11:28

Creamtea noooooooooooooo! That is outrageous Shock
