Hello everyone - we've still got lovely weather down here in the south-east, a little too warm to sit outside comfortably. Even the cat doesn't want to go out - well, she is black. Anyway, it's much more fun to leave hair all over the front room than it is to leave it outside Wink!

Really thought things were beginning to quick off yesterday. Felt very sick, back was really aching and I was getting contractions every 10 minutes or so - they weren't all that strong, but uncomfortable all the same. I think this child of mine has got a very warped sense of humour to keep teasing me like this.

Anyway, here's a thought for you - 2 days time and we're half way through May!

LilacBump - really hope baby turns - lots of fat fingers and toes crossed for you.

Diddle - really sympathise on the restless leg front - made DH massage them before going to bed last night, but they still appeared to have a life of their own. If fact, they're more active during the night than during the day, when they just ache all the time - how perverse is that?!

Haven't worn my engagement ring for a few weeks, but still squeezing wedding ring on - just.

Hope you all have a lovely w/end

elizabuff · 13/05/2006 18:14

Have to tell you this - just seen the mw for my birth plan, and found out that the delivery suite at my hospital has a jacuzzi! Grin

Laura032004 · 14/05/2006 07:25

Hia everyone - I've not posted for ages, but all is well.

Scary that we're now nearly half-way through May, so the June babies could start arriving v.soon Shock Not mine though hopefully, as I'm not due until the end of June, so still over six weeks left! I don't mind at all though - still feeling very unready.

When has everyone else started to feel ready? We've got the crib & moses basket up and dressed (will change the sheets again before the baby goes in it, but I hate it being sat there 'naked' so to speak!) The clothes and sheets are all washed, and the only real thing that needs doing is to wash the nappies, but that's nothing major as I'm planning to use disposables for the first week anyway. I just don't think I've accepted that I'm having a baby yet!

My fingers are a bit swelled first thing in the morning, and I've had to take the ring guard off my ring (DH bought it just after DS was born, so it's been too big for a while, but I thought I'd hold off getting it adjusted until after baby no. 2).

Anybody else getting leg cramps? I got my first one night before last, and was screaming in pain. I got another one this morning, so I'm hoping it won't be a regular thing. :( My legs are aching afterwards, and a friend said that when she had this the pain went on for days. :(

Hope everyone else is well, and has a nice sunny day. Our weather forecast is for nasty cloud, and it's foggy at the moment, so not holding out much hope!

Laura032004 · 14/05/2006 07:25

elizabuff - meant to say v. jealous of the jacuzzi!

LilacBump · 14/05/2006 09:26

leg cramp... i had this for ages, limping around from the pain. there's a few threads around about it. i heard eating lots of bananas helps (pottasium) and it did seem to for me. also when you get the cramp, pull your toes up towards your knees rather than stretch them away from you.

OP posts:
diddle · 14/05/2006 11:09

laura - i had my first real cramp last night, I normally feel it coming on and pull my toes and foot at right angles to my leg so it goes away before it gets bad, but for some reason this time, my toes would onyl go so far and then stopped which made the cramp even worse. I called out in pain, DH thought i was in labour bless him, but he was there like a shot rubbing my leg. It soon went away, but i can definitly feel it now, made me limp all morning.
better stock up an bananas.

We have everything ready now, has been for a month or so, i have 4 weeks left. I like to feel organised, and have had a couple of bad sessions of braxton hicks so needed to be ready for my own piece of mind.

CarmenH · 14/05/2006 16:24

Haven't posted or read this thread for a little while as my due in June baby (EDD 27/06/06) became a born in May baby on 08/05/06! Laura Isobel was born by emergency c-section at 19.20 as I developed severe pre-eclampsia. I just got home from hospital yesterday but Laura remains on SCBU. She is beautiful and weighed 1453grams (3lb 3oz). I will do a post for the birth announcements with all the info on. Will still keep reading this thread to see how all of you ladies get on.

SuperSaint · 14/05/2006 16:48

I thought I would be the first to say congratulations Carmen. I hope Laura is okay - I assume she is just staying on SCBU because she is premature. It's a lovely name by the way.

I hope she is home with you soon x

happybebe · 14/05/2006 16:56

carmen, congratulations, our first baby on this thread, awww how lovely, glad laura isobel is doing well, and will read other thread now

how are you feeling? a bit of a shock for you, do you have any other children?

well i thought i got away with new stretch marks this time around, but alas they got me! Sad

3 weeks this thursday for me sooo not long, and i still havent packed hospital bag

are you girls buying those disposal knickers or you just wearing old ones after birth? for the life of me i cant remember what i did after having ds, cant remember if disposable ones are comfortable or whether i didnt bother with them at all and wore old knickers

vbab78 · 14/05/2006 23:12

Congratulations CarmenH. Laura Isobel what a beautiful name. Grin

Me and DH had decided a few months back on a boy's name and girl's name. The names are secret though ... for now. Then I saw a friend yesterday who was talking about a friend of hers, who I see on occasion, and mentioned her little girl who happens to have the same name as what we have chosen! It sort of took the shine off the name for me especially as we thought that the name was not too commonly used.

Is it silly to be bothered that someone we know has a child with the same name? Would you stick with it or look into another name? Any thoughts?

I apologise for my ranting and making a mountain out of a molehill. The last day or so my emotions have been all over the place. Blush

LilacBump · 15/05/2006 07:11

bubbly, i used disposable knickers with DD and they were awful. mostly because they were too small though. maybe others think they are brilliant, but i'm not using any this time. i've gone for big granny knickers from tesco (big pack of value ones). ashamed to say, i've been wearing them for the last few weeks and though i look silly with them on, they are far more comfy than my normal ones.

new stretchmarks here too. didn't think i could get any more, but no such luck.

Laura032004 · 15/05/2006 08:16

CarmenH - congratulations on the first 'June' baby :) I hope that Laura (great name BTW Wink) Isobel is home with you soon.

Thanks everyone for the advice on leg cramps. The pain from the Friday one is still there, so I'd best get eating my bananas!

No new stretchmarks yet, but I didn't have any with ds until my due date. When he eventually arrived I was riddled with them, so plenty of time for me yet!

I have invested in cheap knickers for after the birth (I'm wearing them already as well LilacBump!). In fact, I bought them because my M/Care maternity ones were getting so uncomfy, and these are fabulous. I had to buy something stupid like size 18/20 though (wearing 12/14 M/Care ones).

I have to say that I didn't throw the ones from after DS away either, they never really got stained. Maybe I was lucky though? Just make sure that anything you get blood on gets soaked in cold water with salt in as soon as you can - I kept a bucket of water/salt in the bathroom, and kept everything soaking in there until it was time to wash it all. That usually gets rid of all marks and stains. Sorry if TMI for anybody!

CarmenH · 15/05/2006 08:54

Thankyou all for the congratulations Smile. I have just got round to posting the birth announcement now. Expressing with one hand and typing with the other.

Cheap big knickers (5 for £2.50 at ASDA) are working well for me, they don't rub on my wound at all.

vbab78 at least you have been doing some name planning. DP and I were still debating Laura or Lorna as I was being wheeled to the operating theatre! Isobel took another day of thinking. I wouldn't let it put you off if it's a name that you really like. You could have your little one and then a few months later make friends with someone who has a child with the same name anyway.

bubbly1973 · 15/05/2006 11:58

carmen i just read your birth announcement, wow, a lot of drama!! must be so hard to say bye to laura and come home, but must be such a lovely thrill to go and visit her

thanks girls for your advice, i will buy the cheap tesco knickers

3 weeks thursday and i havent packed my bag yet

how about all the ladies who have packed there bag make a list of it on here and then if someone has left something out, they may be reminded of it by reading what others have packed...just a thought

bumpinsheffield · 15/05/2006 13:14

Hi all,

Congratulations Carmen, hope you're recovering well and Laura is progressing, any idea when she will be able to come home, it must be so hard to leave her.

Apparantly with cramp its lack of potassium and salt, so as well as bananas you should have ready salted crisps. Got this from uncle who used to box and play semi-pro football and got regular bad cramp.

Well I had my 36wk scan and appt last week and was shocked to hear that baby is already over 6lb!!!!!!Shock
No wonder I feel like a beached whale. And apparantly they put on 1/2lb a day from now on. Both ds and dd were small so I'm really shocked, it sounds so big!! Starting to feel grateful I'm having a c-sectionWink They booked me in for the 1st June so now its official!Shock

Consultant mentioned the option of me being sterilised at op because its my third c-section and the risk of complications go up dramatically should I have any more. No-one had mentioned this before and me and dp were a bit taken aback. We haven't even discussed idea of more children and we have to give the hospital at least a weeks notice if we say to go ahead with sterilisation. Does anyone now anything about this?

Feeling quite uncomfortable now and sleeping is getting impossible (practice for when the baby arrives I suppose!). Only two weeks on Thursday to go and I'm in two minds. One half of me is panicking and thinking there's still too much to do and the other is thinking I can't possibly hold out for another two whole weeks!!

Hope everyone else is feeling okay. Chins up, we're nearly there!

RachelPross · 15/05/2006 17:07

Congratulations Carmen! Hope little Laura will be home with yousoon. Mine is due on 21/06/06, can't wait now...can't sleep, can't sit down comfortably, the indigestion is a nightmare too. I'll try the bananas for the cramps...good idea.
Just had my reusable nappies delivered ready for our new arrival, theory is that we'll save about £600 in the long run (between birth and potty training) I hope they won't be too much of a pain to use. Anyone tried them?

bubbly1973 · 15/05/2006 18:11

bumpinsheffield, id look into it more if i was you, ive never heard of there being a risk after 3rd cesearean but im not an expert, maybe you should post on the pregnancy thread to see if anyone else has had 3 c-sections and gone on to have 4th baby

you may not want another baby, but i do think its a decision not to be taken lightly and god forbid should anything go wrong, you may want the chance to conceive again...im looking at the doom and gloom picture for you but like i say its not a decision to be taken lightly, you could always book him in for the snip later on in the year should you two definitly decide no more babies
