Hello Ladies. Had a lovely dream last night which left me feeling good and a little more confident about becoming a mum.

I dreamt about the birth, holding baby for the first time and breast feeding.

It wasn't a "rose tinted" dream but more me finding some things difficult but getting through it by keeping calm and just keep trying.

Just can't wait to see baby to analyse who he/she looks like and go SHOPPING, whether DH loses his job or not!

Got 35 week midwife appointment this afternoon.

Hi all - We so needed a new thread but by God it's long already!!

My Stats:

Me: 28
DP: 44
DS: 7
DD: 2 and 5 months
Due: actual is 6/6/06 but having a planned c-section as have had 2 already and if all goes according to plan should be 1/6/06 (same as you waswondering!)
birth planned: hopefully planned c-section but see below.

Well I think i jinxed myself with my last post about the early labour probs I had with dd. 9pm last Thursday I started having contractions {shock}

I felt a bit funny after our meal at 6 and thought I'd eaten too much (something I keep doing lately!!) but after putting dd and ds to bed I started getting back pain and period like cramp and then my stomach started tightening. They were quite regular right from the start, about 3-4 mins apart but not painful and not lasting long so I just lay on the settee and tried to relax.

At about 11:30 they were getting stronger and lasting longer and they were starting to get "uncomfortable" so dp insisted on packing the labour bag just in case and ranting about how unorganised we were! I didn't want to rush to hospital because with no family near us we have to rely on neighbours to take ds and dd in case of emergency and I didn't really want to do this in the middle of the night for no good reason. So we went to bed in the hope that if I lay down then things would calm down a bit but at 1:30 I had to get up and phone the hospital.

They said I should come in but understood situation with children so advised me to see how I went, ring them every hour with an update and come in asap if anything changed. To cut a long story short I held out till 5:30 when I could stand it no longer and then deposited dd and ds on neighbour and went in.

They put me on a monitor and said that I was having full blown contractions but hadn't started to dilate yet. I was put on a muscle relaxant drip and thankfully after 24 hours the contractions stopped but for a minute there they were getting ready to operate!

I got to come home on Sunday but have been told to take it easy, although I've also been told that there is nothing to say that if I take it easy it'll make any difference! (very helpful) So my labour bag is now all packed and ready and me and dp are desperately trying to come up with names!!

vbab - Mothercare advise you to wait until 3 weeks before due date to be fitted for a nursing bra.

Sorry for long post and dashed exit, have to go and get ds from school.

Hope everyone else is keeping well. :o

diddle · 04/05/2006 16:11

wow bumpinsheffield - what a mad panic, bet you were half hoping baby would appear, i know i would be. So glad things have calmed down for you.

i'm feeling truly knackered today. looking forward to finishing work for the day and putting my feet up

Vbab - how was the midwife?

vbab78 · 04/05/2006 17:15

bumpinsheffield - WOW. At least you are all organised now Smile. I wish you all the best with relaxing especially considering that you have two children and DP to look after!

Thanks for the nursing bra advice.

diddle - I'm looking forward to the end of work today too. Sorry to hear you feel knackered. I felt like that this morning and didn't want to get out of bed or maybe I just wanted to go back to my nice baby dream.

Midwife went good, no difference to normal. Everything fine see me again in 3 weeks when I am 38 weeks! Smile Doesn't look like baby is going anywhere though. It makes me a little sad as I can't wait to see baby but obviously it is a good thing.

I've put on another 2.2lb since my 31 week check-up which fetches me up to a grand total of 22lb's so far.

How did mothercare go?

diddle · 04/05/2006 17:19

mothercare was good, got myself some nice comfy trousers which i am now going to live in until baby comes. Nobody around to give me Bra advice unfortunately so will have to go in the daytime i think, when theres more staff on.

happybebe · 04/05/2006 17:22

wow bumpsinsheffield! wish i would have mine early lol got terrible rib pain now! had my small for dates scan at 4pm and baby IS measuring small but perfectly formed, they are not overly worried as i still have two months to go. they confirmed it is definately another DD so now just the long wait till labour day hope all you other pregnant ladies are blooming! :)

diddle · 04/05/2006 18:10

happybebe - so glad you had good news from your scan, i'm sure they'll keep an eye on you. Baby will be fine. Mine feels huge, makes me wish it was smaller, MIL keeps reminding me that Dh's side of the family always have big babies 9lb and more. great stuff, something to look forward to Grin

SuperSaint · 04/05/2006 20:50

Hi All, Our computer has been broken for 3 days and I've really missed seeing what you are all up to! I've now had a big catch up and am glad I didn't miss any birth announcements!

My stats:
me: 33
DH: 34
DD: 3 in 2 weeks
lives: Surrey
due: 1 June - boy
Birth plan: in hospital with gas and air only if possible (I managed that with DD).

I am 36 weeks today and saw the midwife yesterday who said the baby is already 2/5ths engaged. She then proceeded to panic me by telling me what to do if it happens quickly and I don't make it to hospital. She shouted at me to pack my bag (which I did last night) and basically DH and I spent the whole night thinking the birth was imminent and the baby was going to slide out in 5 seconds flat!! Needless to say we are still here but I am feeling so much more uncomfortable than with DD. My feet have swelled so much the only shoes I can wear are trainers with the laces undone - it will be interesting to see what I can squeeze into for work next week. I have definitely mastered the pregnant woman's waddle!

Loads of us seem to think we will be early - I wonder who will be first - it's getting very exciting now.

elizabuff · 04/05/2006 21:13

Can I just ask - how long is everyone here working for? I'm self-employed and can't decide when to pack it all in...

CarmenH · 04/05/2006 21:17

I'm going to try to work til 36 weeks (now 32+, EDD27/06) but may not make it as having increased bp and protein in urine. Consultant said I may need to be delivered at 37-38weeks. Having the same shoe problem as Supersaint, felt like one of the ugly sisters in Cinderella the other day when trying to force my feet into some sandals.

SuperSaint · 04/05/2006 21:29

With DD I had an excellent pregnancy and worked until 38 weeks. I then gave birth the day after finishing work! This time I am working till next Wednesday when I'll be 36+6. To be honest i wish I had already finished as I think I'm going to struggle through the 3 days next week (I work part time anyway).

If you're self employed can you start to wind down a bit as your due date gets closer?

diddle · 05/05/2006 07:42

elizabuff - i'm self employed too, a childminder, i'm working until 38 wks, ending the 26th May.

blobsmummy · 05/05/2006 10:09

Good morning everyone! Hope you're all feeling well rested (is that possible anymore?) I'm sitting at my work desk with lots of cake as today I go on maternity leave - hurrah! The aim is to try to make everyone as fat as me by 5pm!

Well, went to my first ParentCraft class last night at the hospital - not quite the laugh I had hoped for, but very informative anyway. However, by the end of the 2 hours, DH looked as if he was about to pass out, and i was petrified - reality of what is about to happen has hit! Still, the midwives at the hospital said something that was music to my ears - "we don't do episiotomy's anymore (unless it is a REAL emergency)" That is soooo good to know! Grin Looking forward to the class where we get to look around the delivery suite though.

My bump seems incredibly low compared to everyone else in the class - I reckon if i sneeze she could come shooting out now! (I wish...).

Glad to hear happybebe that baby is OK. I go for my 6th scan on Tuesday to see how small my DD is, but not expecting any problems.

Well, best do some work - although if anyone complains that I'm slacking, I'll just shove a piece of cake in their mouth! Wink

blobsmummy · 05/05/2006 10:13

BTW, any news on Bugs possible induction this week?

LilacBump · 05/05/2006 10:15

bumpinsheffield, gosh what a mad couple of days you've had! hope the baby sticks around for the c-section now!

i got a letter today saying i am getting the £500 sure start maternity grant paid into my account on monday! so so pleased to get it. we're buying a cot with it straight away as it is the only thing we haven't got yet for the baby! well that and a new carpet in his bedroom (but he's sleeping in a crib in our bedroom at first anyway).

hope you are all keeping cool. the heat is definitely getting to me and i am happy that i won't be pregnant through the summer!

OP posts:
elizabuff · 05/05/2006 19:36

Lilac - thanks for the tip-off - I just googled the sure start grants to see if they'd like to give me one Grin and fingers triple crossed they might. We have had quite a bit of baby stuff passed on so that's been a help, but we're getting married 8 weeks after DD is due so that's been a drain on the coffers. Apparently the 'average' wedding costs £17,000 but thankfully ours won't! Still seems to add up though...

The problem with being self employed is that I work from a computer in my bedroom, and it's always there, so even if I were supposed to be 'off work' I know that I'll end up thinking 'well, a bit won't hurr'. Doesn't help that DP and I are in a business partnership, so he will be working downstairs and probably asking me to help every 5 mins if I'm around. Will just see how it goes I suppose.

Feeling a bit left out - my useless midwife Angry forgot to tell me that I'd need to sign up for ante-natal classes really early on, and I (foolishly) didn't ask about it until my 28 week appointment when it was all starting to seem a bit imminent. She looked at me as if I were mad and said 'ooh well, you should really have booked that by now,' and gave me a number to call the next day. When I rang up, I was offered a class 30 miles away in the middle of July (EDD is 5th June) & told I should have booked 9 weeks ago! I'm just hoping it's all really not that hard at all, and I'll get to grips with it in a flash Blush

slinkstah · 06/05/2006 11:25

hiya lilacbump, how long did your maternity grant take to come through? i am sending my form off today:)

elizabuff dont worry about antenatal classes, i didn't go to any with my first and learnt on the way- i was complete expert in less than a week!

my bump is measuring 36cmShock im 33 weeks- anyone else had this? am i having a massive baby? doesn't feel like i have alot of water because everywhere i poke there is a limbGrin

sarahsbump · 06/05/2006 15:16

Hi all x
Hope everyone is ok,nothing to report just waiting for the new arrival now Smile

By the way do any of you live in/near leeds? Have only lived here a year and due to work havent really met many friends and would love someone to chat to and share experiences with x

CarmenH · 06/05/2006 15:51

My goodness elizabuff. No pressure on you to recover from having dc and look radiant and beautiful in 8 WEEKS!! I don't know how you are coping with organising things for a baby and a wedding!

Is anyone else having problems with swelling as much as me? By bedtime last night even my thighs were swollen. I'm sure it isn't just fatness as it clearly reduces by morning. I have cankles not ankles but what is the best word to describe when your entire leg is just one big puffy swolleness? It feels like I've got buckets of water strapped to each leg. :( Sorry but just need to have a little whinge to someone other than my dp.

happybebe · 06/05/2006 16:40

elizabuff i had exactly the same thing, i kept waiting for my Midwife to mention antenatal classes and finally at about 24 weeks i asked her about it and she said i should have booked from the moment my preg was confirmed, so i never got into any. this is my second baby now and i have not bothered going.

hope everybody is alright, for the lady that asked about bump measuring 36cm at 33 weeks, they go by if you are 33 weeks your bump should measure 33 cms, but they allow you 2 cm either side leeway and it depends on what position your baby is in on how accurate a measurement they can give. i was measuring 28 cm at 32 weeks and had a growth scan which they told me although babe was on the small side, no more than average. if you are concerned ask for a growth scan, but i would guess you would have a baby of about 8 pounds so not too big!

have to confess to drinking pineapple juice, having sex, eating curries and starting raspberry tea next week as i am SOOOOO fed up of being pregnant! i got preg again when DD was only 5 months old, so feels like i have been preg forever! gettign some braxton hicks but i bet this time iwill end up late just to drive me even madder!

hope all you ladies are well :)

LilacBump · 06/05/2006 18:50

sarahsbump, i handed the form in to the local jobcentre plus last friday, got a letter saying i will get the money paid in on the 8th (monday) yesterday. so very quick!

i think this baby still hasn't turned. i will find out on thursday when i see the midwife if he's still breech or not. i've been trying to do certain positions that supposedly help to turn him, but i'm really not sure how he's sitting in there.

OP posts:
happybebe · 07/05/2006 07:52

lilacbump where do you feel the kicks most? i get mine mostly on my right side under my ribs (baby is transverse (sideways)) it is hard to tell with breech as my DD was breech right up until 38 weeks. hope your babe turns soon! :)

LilacBump · 07/05/2006 09:13

he too kicks on the right under the ribs a lot and it's not pleasant. he was transverse for ages and then breech. i really hope he's turning this week as midwife will then send me to hospital for ECV next week.

hello everyone
great to see a new thread here are my stats
me:25
dh:27
ds:2yr 5 months
lives:leeds
due date:13th june, boy
birth plan:in hospital, will have whatever i need but dont want epidural.

I am feeling quite prepared for baby, have everything we need apart from baby milk. Just hoping the scan was right and we are having a boy as all the cloths are boys i have bought.
To everyone aplying/waiting to hear about surestart grant, I aplyed and was sent a letter saying i wasn't entitled to it, when i called them they said they were right and i wouldent get. I asked the lady to check and she said there was no point i couldent have it, after arguing for 5 mins she agreed to check and then said "oh sorry, you were right you can get it"
so even if they say no, you should still get them to check again.

KathrynWales · 07/05/2006 15:37

Hello all.

Well, have (just about ) moved house now... Smile painted five rooms in 3 days...ankles swelled up like balloons, bladder emptying every time I cough, skin blotchy, feet itchy, bump moving about like scene from Alien, hair covered in emulsion, glamorous image through the floor, girlies.... Grin

Have another appt with consultant on wednesday and a 4th scan, as babs was a wee bit on small side. Think he has had major growth spurt though, as tummy has suddenly gone BOOM! Have so far put on 30lbs. (Something tells me only about 4lb of that is actually baby though...the rest is pies and cakes.)

here are my stats..

me: 35
DP: Doesn't exist...no contact with baby's father for 4 months now.
DD: 15
lives: Bangor, North Wales
due: 21/06/06
birth: Hospital. Gas n air. Epidural at the ready.
Birth partners: mum and teenage daughter, so on second thoughts, may need mind altering drugs to cope with those two telling me to stop making a fuss Wink
