have you packed a towel in the bag for you, and one for baby or do your hospital provide these?

morethan1 - sounds like you're having a rough time of it. I am getting to the uncomfortable stage now and wish it was time for baby to come out. Its disheartening isn't it, getting braxton hicks and being sent home again when all you want to do is see your baby. won't be long, stay busy and take your mind off it, the time will fly past.

CarmenH - congratulations on the birth of your daughter, i hope that you are both doing well and she is gaining weight and feeding ok. My thoughts are with you at this special time.

bubbly - I have packed some disposable and some old knickers that i don't mind being ruined. This is my first so i don't know which i'm going to prefer, or what to expect. I've packed a bath towel and a hand towel in my bag, my hospital apparently provides certain things, not much but toiletries and sheets for baby. so i've just packed clothes and nappies etc for baby.
I'm due 3 wks on thurs too, can't wait.

Vbab - if it was a close friend of mine who's child had the same name i would possibly reconsider, but if it was a distant acquantance i would keep the name. You need to be happy with your choice though. perhaps have a back up name and see how you feel once baby is born, the first name may not suit him or her.

Bumpinsheffield - Grin they don't put 1/2lb a day on, its 1/2 a lb a week, don't panic!!! Sorry i know nothing about sterilisation, but if you are unsure, and can't decide 100% then don't feel pressured into it.

Saw the doctor yesterday, just routine, bp and urine all fine which is good as they were a little high last time, but she couldn't tell if baby was head down or bum down,s he was 98% it is head down but wants to triple check. So i have a scan today Grin which i am thrilled about to see what position baby is in and the size of it. DH is working 3 hours away so i'm going on my own. I MUST remember to not find out the sex!!! will be gutted if they tell me or accidentally show me. Having problems sleeping now more than before, just keep waking up. Baby is very active in the day, always kicking me, especially in my ribs, makes me jump a mile when it does that.
I am getting very excited about baby coming now. I have started maternity leave yesterday and it is lovely not to be working for a while.

Laura032004 · 16/05/2006 10:20

RachelPross - I've been using resuables with DS since he was born. What type have you bought? I've tried most of them :o

bumpinsheffield - I don't know much about the risks of a 4th c/s, but I don't think they increase that dramatically. There are other contraception options too - sterilisation seems a bit drastic!

bubbly1973 - towels were available at my hosp for the babies, but not the mums. I'd take your own to be on the safe side! In fact, I used a few - baths before the baby was born, shower afterwards etc etc. Maybe leave a few extra in the car for your OH to pick up if needed?

diddle - enjoy the scan :) I have to say my last few haven't been anything special - the baby is too big by this stage to see much. Certainly no photo opportunities :( Don't worry if they say it's a big baby either - they can be a 1lb or two out on the measurements. They said DS was 9lb at 38w - when he was born at 42+w he was only 7lb 13oz! They based it on head size, and his head was on the 99.8th percentile, which threw all the measurements out. Enjoy your maternity leave!

Anybody else still working? I've got 6 weeks to go yet, so it doesn't feel particularly imminent!

vbab78 · 16/05/2006 14:19

I'm 37 weeks today! Feeling very pregnant (duh) and I've got cold Sad.

laura - I'm still working (sort of Wink) I finish this Friday. Can't happen soon enough.

abbey1515 · 16/05/2006 14:37

Hi everyone
Sorry have not written in ages, but am now proud mum of Felicity Elisabeth Field, aged 3 weeks tomorrow and 4 lb 2 oz when born!
Was taken into St. Mary's with severe pre-eclampsia and induced at 33 +5 weeks. Felicity and i have been in hospital since then- she was in SCBU in an incubator for all that time, but is now home and fighting- she is amazing. She has a hormone problem which has impaired her immunity, but apart from that is putting on lots of weight- she's already 4lb 14 oz!
I had a bleed in the brain due to blood pressure and have visual probs because of it, but apart from that am fine, and getting used to sleepless nights.
Hope you are all well, have not got time to read everything I've missed but I will try to catch up!
Love Abbey

blobsmummy · 16/05/2006 15:24

Goddness - I go away for 3 days and all the drama happens! I seem to have missed so much! Where do I begin...

morethan1 - I completely empathise with the SPD - am now hobbling around like a 95 year old - most unpleasant experience.

Carmen - congratulations on your lovely bundle and being the first June 06 mummy! Hope you and your little one is doing well. Beautiful name BTW Smile

Bubbly - I've packed disposables and some cheapo granny pants just so that I've got the choice and I'm not in hospital regretting packing the wrong ones.

Diddle - hope scan went well - all we could see of DD at the scan last week was up her nostrils - which seemed to fill the whole screen! Scans this late are great on detail, but rather lacking in perspective!

Laura - I've bought reusable nappies - Motherease One-Size - have you tried them? It's a bit late for me to change now, but they seemed to have quite a good review and it's always nice to know other mum's experiences with them.

Vbab - hope your cold is soon gone - how rotten to have one on top of being heavily pregnant Sad

Abbey - congratulations on your new arrival Smile. What a scary time you've had the last few weeks - I hope that everything settles down soon and that both of you are fighting fit. Great to hear that Felicity is piling on the weight.

OK, as for me, saw the midwife for my 36 week check-up this morning and was told baby is nearly fully engaged, and she reckons I may not see her for the 38 week check-up as baby will have been born by then. So, I'm terribly excited and expecting to drop at a moment's notice and keep wondering whether every little twinge is the start - I have become well and truly paranoid! I'll be REALLY disappointed if I go overdue now!

Jenswish · 16/05/2006 15:30

HIJACK ALERT*

Diddle (its mumswish) good luck with the baby and I look forward to hearing an announcment sooon.

HIJACK OVER

vbab78 · 16/05/2006 15:41

abbey - congratulations on the birth of Felicity. Glad to hear things are now on the mend and you are both home. Grin

LilacBump · 16/05/2006 16:06

abbey! big congratulations!!! hope you and felicity are well now!

can't believe there's two babies from this thread already!

diddle, hope the scan went well and that you are having a well earned rest now you're on mat. leave.

i'm pretty well. managed to spend a fortune on baby things in town today. from taggies to finding nemo bath toys, i just had to have it all :) i'm still nervous about friday. baby still doesn't seem to have turned.

OP posts:
elizabuff · 16/05/2006 20:19

abbey - brilliant, congratulations! Hope you and Felicity are doing well.

Lilacbump - I made the mistake of going to town with all my credit cards today too - but I did come home with a cot, which I'd been umming and ahhing about for ages, so that's something!

BABY2 · 16/05/2006 20:46

ABBEY-congratulations, hope you are all doing well.

LilacBump · 16/05/2006 21:01

also, while i was in town three ladies who served me commented on my bump.

H&M: normal response. "you look about due. how long have you got left? my sister is having a baby this week" etc

The Pier: "OH MY GOD!!! you look really good! you look gorgeous!!! oh i love the red on you! oh you look so good!" i walked away blushing and thanking her loads. (the red being my red bump band)

Boots: "errrrr... that looks SO scary!" while she stared at my bump with a horrified look. she got even more petrified when i told her i had three weeks left and it would grow even bigger. she also asked that surely there were two babies in there. "no, just the one" i said and left as she still stared with her mouth open.

strange how people react differently to my bump. but at least none of them wanted to touch it! :)

Hello ladies. Feeling quite sorry for myself as my cold has got worse. It has now moved on from a sore throat to runny nose, cough and wheezy chest!

Need to do some positive thinking because in my current state of mind I don't think I could handle labour if it happened. Especially as I feel like my breathing is getting harder. Sad

DH doesn't help my emotional state either. He tells me to rest and acts all concerned but I was the one who got up early this morning to do breakfasts, lunches and generally tidy up whilst he was still laid in bed! Then he had a go about something that related to me not having my mind reading capabilities switched on. WHINGE, WHINGE, WHINGE.

diddle · 17/05/2006 09:20

Well i had my scan, baby is head down although they didn't mention anything about engagement, and i will be 37 wks tomorrow, hope baby isn't late. It is weighing approx 6lb 7 at the moment, although that could be wrong, we'll see. even if its right baby won't be as huge as i imagines by my due date. Was lovely to see him or her again.

abbey - so pleased for you that both you and felicity are on the mend. Make sure you're taking it easy at home and accept all the help you can get, you need to look after yourself.

Vbab - hope the cold isn't knocking you about too much, i think i have one on the way, can feel the beginnings of a sore throat heading my way. Sounds like your DH is being a typical man, They don't and couldn't understand what we are feeling like, and when we remind them they only moan or claim that they are wonderful partners. wait till he sees you pushing that baby out, he'll soon realise how amazing you are.
In the meantime, get those feet up, and rest as much as you want, and tomorrow, don't get up to do any breakfast or lunch, leave it till he does it.

Blobsmummy - oh wow, you lucky thing, we'd better keep an eye on you. make sure you're resting up and conserving that energy just in case. Are you feeling much more uncomfortable now?

Lilacbump - Enjoying maternity leave, felt knackered yesterday and hardly did a thing, pegging the washing out must have sapped all the life out of me, and baby of course, that is still very active.
Stay calm and positive about Friday you will be fine, i can totally understand you feeling daunted by it all, but as long as baby arrives in one piece well and healthy thats the main concern. Shock at the thoughtless response from boots about your bump. I think its amazing how people always presume theres two in there because we're all looking so big, doh, we're pregnant! I don't think i look massive, feel quite neat and tidy, but then someone has to comment that you might be having twins!!! Nosy buggers Grin

vbab78 · 17/05/2006 11:00

diddle - thanks for your kind words. Good news about baby being head down. I see my midwife next week (38) but at my last appointment my baby wasn't engaged either. I understand your feelings about not wanting baby to be overdue.

Had a word with boss and come home sick probably go back for my last day (friday) just so I can say bye to everyone. Now going to crawl into bed and rest.

Typical less than 3 weeks to go, 3 days of work left and cold hits! ARRR. Fingers and toes crossed you don't get it.

blobsmummy · 17/05/2006 12:58

LilacBump - isn't strange the different comments that you get?! And I find it very odd that everyone seems to be an expert on how big the bump should be at this stage! My bump is either too little (I think it's a lovely neat bump) or so huge you can fit two in (no, it's just the right size for DD, a placenta, fluid etc etc). Do they expect her to be shrink-wrapped Grin

vbab - are our husbands related in some way?! I seem to have the exact same conversations! Really sorry about your cold, that's the last think you need right now. Does a warm bubbly bath help? Keep knocking back the honey and lemon and I hope you're better in double quick time.

Diddle - I think I'm going to give birth to an octopus! I can feel hands and legs everywhere all the time now, and she keeps jumping up and down on her head and grinding my pelvis, so it has got a bit more uncomfortable of late! Got quite a bit of low backache, which is what my mum had before she gave birth each time, so I'm really hoping it could be soon. Glad to hear that your little one is heading due south! Hope you don't a cold either.

I wouldn't be surprised if our immune systems were taking a slight bashing at the moment - our bodies are probably struggling to keep up with everything going on.

My MIL is now sooooooooo excitable that she's quite difficult to be around. She rang up the other day and insisted that we ring her IMMEDIATELY anything starts to happen - yeah, like that's going to happen Grin. In fact, out of both DH's and my families, I seem to be the calmest person of all (probably the sobering thought of the birth is what does it - no-one else in the family has to do that!). I know I should be very grateful for supportive families wanting to get involved, but I'm feeling a bit mothered myself.

Here's a suggestion for you - if you're able to, get caller-ID on your phone so that you can pick and choose who you want to speak to - I've had it for 3 weeks and found it a great boon!

happybebe · 17/05/2006 13:09

abbey congratulations on your new DD though sorry to hear it was so traumatic, sounds like you are both recovering well though!

i hope all you other pregnant ladies are well, i have still got terrible headaches went to the doctor and the only thing he could offer me was migraine tablets that could slow babies heart rate so i refused to take them, hence i have to just suffer. ah well not long to go now only six more weeks for me and fingers crossed this one will come early like DD1. just started the raspberry leaf tea and have ordered my tens machine, now all i need is to have the risk assessment done to see if my home is suitable to give birth in. :)

ChaCha · 17/05/2006 13:12

Gatecrasher here :o

Diddle - 37 weeks eh? Oh, you must be soooo excited. I am excited for you :o

Pls pop into the Nov thread to let me know how you are progressing. I have a brain of mush as of late and don't want to miss out on any news.

Take care of you and bump x

homemama · 17/05/2006 13:22

Just popping over from the Sept thread to say good luck to the ladies who many moons ago were on my TTC thread.
I think on this thread is Lilacbump, Dana and Diddle. Good luck girls and to all on here. Smile

Laura032004 · 17/05/2006 14:36

abbey1515 - Congratulations on the arrival of Felicity Elisabeth. Sorry to hear that you've had a traumatic few weeks - hope it's all upwards from here :)

blobsmummy - I've used MEOS nappies before. I can't say that they're my absolute favourites, but they're definitely my second choice. They are the favourites for a lot of people though, so they must be good. What wraps have you gone for - Motherease as well? How exciting that you might not make 38 weeks! Is this no. 1 for you? My mum wants me to ring her at the first twinge too - she's hoping to get here before the baby is born. She lives in Cyprus though, so might not make it!!! She did for DS, but I knew I was in labour for several days before DS was born.

vbab78 - I'm sure I've read that you're very unlikely to go into labour if you're feeling under the weather. Mother Nature's way of ensuring we can cope as well as possible I suppose! Hope you feel better soon though.

diddle - Glad to hear the baby is definitely head down, and a good weight already.

Sorry to hear about all the problem otherhalfs! Mine isn't too bad, but we've come a long way since DS was born in terms of sharing work and getting up. He's still not perfect though! I'm having a night away next weekend - my first since DS was born over two years ago. I don't think it will make up for the literally 100's that DH has had (he's in the Navy), but it's a start, and probably the last proper lie in I'll get for quite a few months!

happybebe - Have they checked all the options for painkillers for you? I suffered terribly with migraines last pg, but touch wood, I'm fine this time. I took paramax last pg, and I've taken it a few times this pg. Can't remember exactly what it contains, but it's a bit stronger than just paracetamol. Unfortunately my headaches didn't stop straight after DS was born, and I was bf, I couldn't go onto stronger painkillers then either, so I was in pain for months. :( Hope yours clear up with the arrival of the baby. I've got my home birth meeting when I'm 36 weeks, which is the end of the month. I'm really excited about it, but it makes the birth feel quite real and imminent!

RachelPross · 17/05/2006 19:38

I've bought Bambino Mio cloth nappies, they look pretty good and have heard good things said about them...so fingers crossed.
Had my 35 week antenatal check today and cos I've been having these pains in my chest under the bottom of my ribs have had to go for blood tests...they think it may be my liver...eek. Frightening.

RachelPross · 17/05/2006 19:48

Midwife did tell me though that baby is head down (good news) but not engaged yet. Think she's trying though judging by the weird pains I've been getting in that area!!

Am getting results of blood tests back tomorrow afternoon so I'm hoping I'll be telling you that all is well this time tomorrow night and not sat in hospital!!
