new June thread - we've been chatting too much!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

pear it's harder for them to get a little boy wrong, one his little willy has been identified that's it! Girls are a little more tricksy cus they could be hiding their willy iyswim? That being sad at 20 weeks errors are much less likely anyway!! Mine is 'an obvious boy' in the words of the sonographer! Tbf we could have identified his sex without her telling is what we were looking at!!

MrsBri · 04/02/2013 07:26

My MiL was telling us of somebody who was told all along it was a girl...until a scan at 38 weeks revealed it was actually a boy! At least they had a couple of weeks to rectify the situation!

Only 25.5 hours til my scan. Excited and a bit nervous. Will be glad to have it and be told all is OK. Fingers crossed!

I really need to look at changing bags. I have no idea what I'm going for.

curlyclaz13 · 04/02/2013 08:21

finally feeling movement ! 22+1 today and felt bubbles Saturday at work and stronger bubbles/pokes last night which OH felt as well. bubbles again this morning. was actually going to ring mw for advice about lack of movement today.

pinkapples · 04/02/2013 08:58

I'm 22 tomorrow and still not much have a midwife apt later tho so might ask although I know it is less likely with an anterior placenta some women don't feel until about 25 weeks

redwellybluewelly · 04/02/2013 09:10

After Fridays manic movement not much action, I slept seven straight hours last night, dd did 7-10 when I settled her then 10-2 when dh got up to her.

Feel much better today.

Re the kidneys, they are one of the inductors of baby health and placenta function (can show ebough wee being made) so are kept a close eye on but growth often resolves. Thats pretty much what the consultant told us as we have extra scans to check placental function and thats one of the stress indicators.

If you have a preschooler when is the best time to talk about turning their world upside down new baby? I haven't spoken to dd's nursery yet because although I want to prepare her I also wantit to be less of a wait IYSWIM? I dropped her off this morning as a friend dropped off her six month old in the next room, dd was completely inconsolable that she had to stop talking to baby. And apparently when they have mix room time dd makes a beeline for the small babies and spends all her time playing with them

peardrop2 · 04/02/2013 09:43

Thanks for the reassurance Withalittle! DH says I'm over analysing and after 3 scans confirming gender I should be happy to believe its a boy. I'll still ask at my 34w scan just to triple check GrinWink

redwellybluewelly · 04/02/2013 09:55

peardrop re the gender what do you feel is the gender? trust your instincts!

We did find out but I'm not sharing, I'm hats off bloody delighted as in DH in what they told us and I knew it before hand even without a scan!

Withalittlesparkle · 04/02/2013 12:04

pear if you've had three scans saying boy then you're having a boy!!

red I thought girl, everyone else said girl as well, except my sister and sister in law who both said boy! And as I'm firmly in team blue now I think my instincts were crap!!

Oh and back to the baby clothing debate now I've actually had a proper look at baby clothes I can see why parents get annoyed with the choice of clothes!!! The majority of girls clothes is exactly the same shade of pink!! And do we really need to print the word 'diva' on our children?!?

Boys clothes are a little better but there far less to choose from!!!

peardrop2 · 04/02/2013 13:53

OK I will calm down now :) Most certainly team blue.

Is anyone going to hand make something for their nursery? I've decided that I'm going to contribute by painting wooden cupboard door handles to match the wall and I also want to give this a go...pinterest.com/pin/10485011604564856/

I'd love to hear if anyone else is planning to get creative! I'm trying to avoid buying decorations as I'm likely to go OTT if I go that direction!

redwellybluewelly · 04/02/2013 14:35

We were selling our house when we had DD and so she has only just got her 'own room' at 2.6yrs! We're hoping to have the baby in the spare room with double bed and nursing chair for now so we will redecorate (paint walls cream) and put up some plain curtains but thats it for now.

I do really want to get lots of beautiful photographs, DH has a fab camera and DD is proving a willing model so I hope to copy some ideas from Pintrest for Baby & older sibling.

I'm also intending on making toddler activity bags which might save my sanity!

SunnyL · 04/02/2013 14:52

Had the chat today about maternity leave cover. Easiest conversation ever. Boss didn't even care when I said I was heading off. I've offered to pop by a couple of times to make sure things are smooth (I live very near the office) but was told not to worry and not to commit myself to anything. Almost made me feel unloved (almost!).

Presume there must be an official bit of paperwork i have to do at some point with our book keeper. Maybe once I get my MatB1 thingy.

Mutley77 · 04/02/2013 15:00

Thanks everyone for the support. I got really upset when they said baby had something potentially wrong - was just so worried about him/her being ill after birth and having to feel pain etc. I am sure I am being irrationally anxious.

red - do you know what the other indicators of placenta function are?

Anyway - good to hear about movement and sex of babies. I have quite a lot of movement but seems v irregular at the moment so I can only assume I am not feeling it all the time.

I have an OI OI Hobo change bag from last DC which I quite like but may update it once baby is here and I know what sex it is!

SunnyL · 04/02/2013 15:09

Mutley - its not quite the same thing but I was born with the ureter being too narrow in my left kidney (the tube between the kidney and my bladder). Nothing was noticed until I was 18 when I got stones and they realised my kidneys were more than twice the normal size. I had keyhole surgery to remove part of the ureter and take out my kidney stones. Nowadays I have perfectly functioning kidneys. Catching these things early is a good thing - and will help the little tot in future. It may well have been picked up on if ultrasounds were that impressive when I was in utero.

Hope that helps Smile

Withalittlesparkle · 04/02/2013 17:51

Went to see midwife today about matb1 cus work are really hassling me!! Anyway it was literally a quick appt to get her to sign the form but she just asked how I was getting on, I said I was fine but tired and told her of a bad dream I had last night that Id started to miscarry and she said well everything's going really well but as we've got time do you want to hear the baby!! Oh god I was on ghat couch quicker than I've ever been! She found it really quickly and it's so strong!! It's just the most wonderful sound!

Am now spending the rest of the evening trying my hardest not to buy cute baby outfits!! So far loving H&M stuff Smile

MrsBri · 04/02/2013 18:05

Awww...how lovely, sparkle :-) Hopefully you manage to stay a bit more relaxed.

My scan is finally happening tomorrow morning. I'm a bit nervous about it, but baby has been using me as a punch bag today, so he's clearly not arsed, ha ha!

Just want to get in there and not get it over with, exactly, but hear good news as soon as possible so I can relax!

DH is soooo excited, bless him. He's like a kid at Christmas :-)

pinkapples · 04/02/2013 18:22

Awww mrsbri I was like asked if heart was still beating an when she said it was it was like nothing else would've bothered me Grin

I heard babies heart today to at my midwife apt was about 130bpm so all good hubby was excited as its the first time hed heard it Grin booked in week 26 bloods and GTT sounds great bloods then twix/mars bar and glucose drink tv for 2 hours and then another set of bloods Grin lush!

Don't know about changing bags may just browse and see what I fancy

redwellybluewelly · 04/02/2013 18:31

I was told they check that baby is weeing (I.e kidneys), that baby is growing and that there is water around the baby. Also something to do with cord and flow of blood along it but can't remember details and also think you have to be further along. Its called a biophysical profile or from what I recall.

MrsBri · 04/02/2013 18:43

How lovely for your DH, pink :-) I know my DH really wants to hear it too. Have to try to time an appt so he can come!

pinkapples · 04/02/2013 18:51

Signed up today for a labour class and a breast feeding class in April Grin happy days hehe makes it feel a bit real really

learnermummy · 04/02/2013 19:16

I've to go for GTT test at 28 weeks pinkapples, it's the fast beforehand I'm not looking forward to - I'm not good without breakfast!

forgetmenots · 04/02/2013 19:26

Sorry I've missed this -GTT?

pinkapples · 04/02/2013 19:30

Glucose tolerance test its for people with a high BMI to check sugar levels

I know what you mean about the fast mad ill be 27 weeks at mine no food from midnight till at least 9am rubbish!

forgetmenots · 04/02/2013 19:39

Ah! Thank you! Do you know what the cutoff is? Mine is pretty high I think but not heard anything about this...

Withalittlesparkle · 04/02/2013 19:51

GTT isn't just for people with high BMI it's for anyone at risk of developing gestational diabetes. So if you've had it before, or you've had a large baby, if a family member has diabetes... There's also some conditions that increase risk such as PCOS. Of course if you've got a BMI of over 30 then that increases risk as well!

AmIGoingMad · 04/02/2013 19:55

That's lovely little miss! Nice to have a midwife who understands that sometimes you just need reassurance.

Good luck for tomorrow mrsbri- such and exciting time! I can't wait for mine to finally arrive!

I'm loving all of the craft ideas but am unfortunately not very crafty at all!

Have any of you had a chance to think about the bras question? I've been advised to try bravissimo and just wondered if you have any other suggestions.

Redwelly I'm planning on starting a big prep campaign after my scan next week with DS. He's already been kissing my tummy to give the baby a kiss but at just 2 I don't think he really gets it yet. Just about to post on pregnancy to ask for recommendation on good books for preparing toddler for sibling.
