Thankyou all for the advice. Will ask my midwife what my options are when I see her next. well done to you marthahm on your new found energy. My hubby and I just did the housework between us so thats done for today trouble is Ill feel shattered for the rest of the day now. What do you need to know Gemmitygem? Will try to help if I can! Has anyone else got ThrushBlush Seems to have been with me for the full 9 weeks since I been pregnant and I cant use a pesary. Any ideas? xx

whiffy · 28/03/2006 14:32

Hello new joiners.

I saw people were feeling faint - it may well be low blood pressure. Boots sell bp wrist machines for about £40 and I highly recommend them for anyone feeling faint and wanting to check. I had low bp last time which kicked in around week 14 and never really left. Awful - lost count of the number of times I fainted getting out of bed. My GP recommended upping my salt intake which is apparantly the only thing you can do though it only helped me a tiny bit (and I haven't been able to face crisps since).

I tried to have a water birth and had to have quite a fight to get to a hospital that had one. Then like Booge all went horribly wrong - hit 48 hours labour with no DS in sight, and ended up with Oxy, never-ending contractions and linked up to every machine bar the canteen microwave.

Looks like I might have to opt for elective-c this time as had complete pelvic floor collapse last time and ended up in physio for 6 months. Gruesome. Gingeme - it's all very well having strong views on C-sections but I bet you'd change your views if you ever had to go through the experience of involountarily pooing and weeing yourself at the Tesco checkout in front of queue of people Grin ...was very difficult to blame smell on DS lying sleeping in trolley when there's a pool of water on the floor by your feet and you've started crying. I still cringe about it though DH thinks it very funny. I am storing up revenge and will tease him mercilessly when he hits 70 and all his waterworks go.

Has anyone got any good recommendations for maternity clothes? I work in a bank and have to be really smart but all the pg stuff I see is too casual - any ideas? Last time I ended up wearing normal stuff but in size 20 and it mad me want to cut my wrists. Wish M&S would bring out a maternity line...

jamiesam · 28/03/2006 14:50

Gingeme - I'm not the one to ask about tests unfortunately. With ds2 (I was nearly 36 when I had him) we chose not to have any blood tests at all, and our health auth only did routine 12 week scan.

This time around, I'll be seeing consultant in just over a week, where I will have to agree to an elective c/s because I had such a bad tear with ds2. I'm going to ask consultant and midwive's advice then re tests but as I think I'd be unlikely to go for an amnio or similar because of m/c risk, I think we're likely to rely on 12 and 20 week scans (which are now routine). Feels enormously foolhardy but I genuinely don't think I could risk harming this baby - it's my last chance to complete my family...

Incidentally, big respect to Whiffy - when I was told what damage I'd done to my pelvic floor etc with 4 hours pushing and 3rd degree tear, I felt like I was the only person in the world that this had happened to. But my problems were nothing compared to what you went through. Are you getting any advice/physio etc during this pg to minimise further damage?

Since I can't help with Gingeme's thrush problem, can I add my own question to the pot - has anyone else got a rash on their armpits? Looks vaguely familiar like I've had it before when pg - or hot? Almost looks like shaving rash...

whiffy · 28/03/2006 15:06

I could regale you for hours with tales of the little electric shocks I had to give myself where the sun don't shine, and believe me, physio for this is excrutiatingly embarassing - no prizes for guessing what you have to practice and how the physio assesses you Grin Grin This time round I'm not sure what happens (but my PF now very perky and almost back to the levels of my single days Wink ) I will be seeing specialist in next couple of months but MW reckons they'll have no choice but C-S this time round. Which is a shame as we have a newly installed Jacuzzi and I have been wistfully imagining decking it out in candles and pooping out number 2 under the stars whilst reclining in softly massaging water, with just the crickets and the neighbours for company....

Gingeme - I used Caneston cream - had thrush all way through pg and poor DS even got born with it!

Which I guess isn't the best advert for caneston after all.... Smile

SKYTVADICT · 28/03/2006 15:12

Hi, re Tests after 35. I will be having 16 week blood tests then depending on results will decide what to do. i.e. amnio or not. Not sure Lincolnshire does the Nuchal scan as haven't been offered one! Perhaps I will ask? Somewhere will probably do it for cash. There is so much to think about.

Sorry to hear about the seconday school thing totallyfloaty. We will be having the same thing this time next year. We are chaging from first preference to equal preference whatever that means. I'm sure it will become clear! We still have the 11+ which will start in October just before the due date!!

Sorry Jamiesam no rash under armpits and no thrush yet thank god Gingeme but suffered lots before pg so who knows.

A really dim question probably but I am pg. I asked DP for a drink of water this morning and he said he would get me one from the bathroom. I told him I didn't drink water from the bathroom only the kitchen and he says its the same water. Is he right?

Gingeme · 28/03/2006 15:20

Hi jamiesam Ive been getting a rash in different places in the evenings. Looks a bit like nettle rash and dead itchy. My doc gave me aqueous cream which basicaly is a moisturiser cream with no colour or perfume in it. Works wonderfuly and quickly for relief. You can also use Eurax cream while your pg which is realy good too but a bit smelly!

Gingeme · 28/03/2006 15:22

No he isnt right SKYTVADICT. Being the wife of a plumber take it from me bathroom water is not safe to drink as it is stored in a tank where as kitchen water is from the mains which means its always flowing if you catch my drift.

SKYTVADICT · 28/03/2006 15:25

Thanks Gingeme I knew there was a reason, at least I can tell him now without sounding dim Smile

Gingeme · 28/03/2006 15:35

Your very welcome. Its amazing what useless bits of info you pick up when your dp is a plumber! Yawn he he x

hana · 28/03/2006 17:56

hey
scan was brilliant, it was such a weight off my shoulders
still feel awful ( physically) the girls had a horrible tea and I think I'll forget about their bath tonight ( again!) oh to have some energy
I feel v lucky that I was able to have a nuchal folds and bloods tests done (on the NHS) at the Harris Birthright Centre in Dulwich - it's awful that some of you have to pay for this....

great news for you too 3kids!
roll on bedtime I can't wait to go to sleep tonight!

Gingeme · 28/03/2006 19:24

Good for you hana cant wait for my first scan. Got a couple of weeks before that though. So here you about the loss of energy. I used to enjoy bathin my 2 year old ds but now it seems such a chore. I feel like going to bed at 8pm. How ols are your dds?

hana · 28/03/2006 20:08

gingeme - dds are 14 months and 4.5 - god, I'm going to need a double buggy grrrr, hate them
both alseep
just getting something to eat and then it's my turn!

Tigerlion · 28/03/2006 20:24

Whiffy, have you tried Jojo Maman Bebe for maternity clothes? They have a good website and offer free p & p in the UK. They do nice clothes - both casual and also more appropriayte for office wear. Bloooming Marvellous also offers quite smart things.
If you have a Hennes maternity branch next to you, they have cheap clothes and some are very wearable in the office. More expensive is a French company called Formes and they have lovely clothes including many work dresses and suits. Otherwise Ebay always has masses of maternity clothes.

I had pre-eclampsia with DS1. Does anyone know whether this means that I will not be able to have a waterbirth with the new baby. I had really wanted one with DS1 but I was in hospital for four days prior to the birth where I was closely monitored and told that under no circumstances could I have a waterbirth for DS1.

Still feeling sick but find that Ginger Nuts and Coca Cola work very well. Thanks for whoever suggested those! Exhausted and DS1 (7 and a half months old) is still waking two or three times during the night and refusing to nap during the day. DH is helping but he is also getting exhausted at work.

I read a while ago that the government was talking about extending paternity leave and paying 90% of salary when they are not at work. Does anyone know when this will be implimented by? Knowing our luck, it certainly won't be by October!

wuzzlefraggle · 28/03/2006 20:26

hana - glad to hear that your scan went well :)

is anyone else getting pretty bad morning/all bloddy day sickness?? please tell me it will stop sooner rather than later !!

Gingeme · 28/03/2006 21:24

Sorry wuzzlefraggle but the sicness varies. Didnt have any with my second ds but had it nearly all 9 months with my first ds. This time I still feel sick in the morning but it subsides about lunch time. hana have you seen that great buggy in Mothercare? Its called Phil& Teds and its the size of a single buggy and you can buy a cacoon to clip on the back for tiny babies then as it gets older you can get another toddler seat to clip on. Its a 3 wheeler though which Im not a big fan of but it looks pretty cool. I quite like the idea of those buggy boards too. They clip on the back for your toddler to stand on when they feel a bit tired. My ds will be 21/2 when my babys born but your dd may be a bit little still.

totallyfloaty35 · 28/03/2006 22:35

tiger,i had pre eclampsia with my first, its much rarer in the 2nd,i didnt get it with my 2nd,so you should be fine for a waterbirth

SKYTVADICT · 29/03/2006 10:00

Good morning all.

Congrats on scan news hana. Sorry you are not feeling too good. I'm ready for my bed each night and have been going to bed with the DDs at 8 pm. Not been sick since last Wednesday now but still nauseous and can only eat certain things, my main complication at the mo is constipation! I don't fancy anything healthy, any suggestions?

I've not ventued into maternity clothes yet but have been looking at Next and Additions catalogues. I only work 2 days a week so thought a pair of black trousers and a black skirt would suffice with a few floaty tops. I've never been pg in the summer before so not sure I'm looking forward to that. I don't "do" dresses but have a feeling I might have to try.

Regarding chicken pox, does anyone know if i've had it could coming into contact with a child who has it be dangerous for the baby? I didn't think so but someone told me yesterday it could be.

booge · 29/03/2006 10:18

Hi everyone,
SKYTVADICT I spoke to my midwife about chicken pox when a boy at DS's childminders had it and she reassured me it would be fine if I had already had it, then my mother couldn't remember if I definately had or not so it didn't resolve my paranoia, thankfully DS didn't get it.

Re maternity clothes, I bought a lot of 10 items of Formes clothes on ebay which has proved a great bargain as they are all in lovely condition and great quality. I didn't want to spend a much money as I'm fairly sure this will be my last pregnancy. Turns out now I am better dressed in maternity clothes than I was before as I still have some from last time and I didn't want to buy many clothes until I lost the baby weight before which wasn't going anywhere Sad It's lovely not having to hold my tummy in any more Grin

booge · 29/03/2006 10:21

Hana. congrats on the scan Grin

Oh yes a friend has a Phil and Ted for her new baby and 18 month old. She loves it, I'm torn between one of those and a double mountain buggy. We've got a single Mountain Buggy and love it and I do think it would be cool for them to be able to sit next to each other. Still we have plenty of time to mull it over.

twinkle183 · 29/03/2006 10:32

Hi Guys sorry I haven't been on lately... went for my scan on monday and they told me the bad news that the baby hadn't grown in fact it had shrunk! So yesterday I underwent a erpc... which went well... I just thought that I would wish everyone well with there pregnancies and that I hope everyone keeps well... thanks for all your well wishes...

twinkle xxxxx

wuzzlefraggle · 29/03/2006 10:56

twinkle - i am so sorry to hear about your unfortunate news...my thoughts are with you and i wish you the very best for the future...take care of yourself xoxox

marthahm · 29/03/2006 11:13

wuzzlefraggle, i've been asking all women who had sickness how long it lasts and my survey suggests 12-16 weeks and 9 months for the really unfortunate few like poor gingerme. it's absurd, but i really have asked everyone and i come into contact with alot of pg women at work so i think it's quite an accurate summary. i have been counting down the days til 12 weeks to keep myself going with horrible sickness. but unbelievably it seems to be subsiding now at 11 weeks 5 days. i feel like maria von trapp in the sound of music.
whiffy, i just went and bought some smart clothes for work. i got 2 t-shirt tops that have a kind of twist at the front which look really smart and cost 28 quid each. the shop is called Seraphine and it's near kensington high st. tube in london. they do online stuff as well. there was a really good range of good smart clothes incl. a black dress that would be really good for work or eve. also my extremally chic friend spent most of her pregnancy in a boden wrap dress, also does online shop. they have lycra in them so expand with you and you can wear a little tshirt under if it gets too cleavagey.

FirstNikki · 29/03/2006 11:13

Twinkle so sorry to hear your sad news. Take good care of yourself and rest. You know where I am if you need a chat. Wishing your all the very best for the future. xxx

Gingeme · 29/03/2006 11:54

So sorry to hear your sad news Twinkle. Having lost a baby well it was just a sack'no baby actualy developed! I kinda know how your feeling. Luckily I went on to have a lovely ds so though you may not feel like it now keep trying babe xxx

Gingeme · 29/03/2006 11:57

Booge how does your friend rate the Phil and Ted buggy? I realy like the look of it but my dh keeps moaning about how expensive it works out! Does it have rain cover and stuff and how well does it go into the boot? Ive got till Oct to save my pennies!!
