Thought I would start the thread.

HC Sorry that our MIL is like that. I guess theres not much you can do apart from telling DH to stick up fo you. My Mil is ok but has her odd ways. She was against me bfing and was determined with DD that she would be dressed in pink frilly dresses. Soon put a stop to all that and I just used to ignore her comments.

The kicks argetting a lot stronger now. They are still fairly low down and sometimes in my bladder.

Im glad im not the only one breaking wind like a trooper. Im almost afraid to bend over in work Blush

Im hoping to go back to work 3 1/2 possibly 4 days a week. Im going to put DD in nursery 2/3 mornings but mil will have both the rest of the time. Id love to do less but when I work out how much id lose its shocking and weve just extended our morgage for the extension. The other option ive got is to work in the call centre and do shifts but I dont fancy the weekend shifts. Im too frightened to tell my mnagaer yet.

Hi liliana, sorry to hear you've been having a rough time :( Do you have to have any follow up ? are they keeping an eye on things at the hospital?
I'm not exactly counting down the weeks, but I did feel I'd reached a milestone this weekend - 24 weeks - apparently if the baby was born now it stands a pretty good chance..still I'd quite like it to stay in there a while longer ...the house is a tip!! Wink

Morning all. Feeling better today about the state of the world in general(!) but hacked off with this bloody rain. I know we need it and all, but couldn't we just have it at night or something?!?!

Never did find out what the matter was with DD on Friday, but she settled after 20 minutes and was back to her normal self for going in today. Weird.

Feeling a bit Envy of your mothers' day stories. Shouldn't really, as I had a lovely card from DD which she'd made with DH and written 'mummy' in, but no pressies and no mention of bump (got pressy and card when pg with DD!) That was about it, really, apart from a cup of tea made for me by DH!! Shouldn't be so ungrateful, but I was just feeling a bit blue and elephantine, so was hoping for a little treat of some kind I suppose...

As for buggies - I would like a travel system thing (buggy and carseat, or a buggy that lies flat and baby can face either way, with the sort of handles that make it easy to attach a buggy board. The other complication is that I don't want a new one unless I can help it - was hoping someone would have one to pass on, but they're all still being used or run into the ground!! Still, if I do have to buy one new, it'll be about the only thing I have to buy at all, so can't complain really!

Hi everyone

Hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day yesterday :0 I did the loo roll test yesterday and was 9 sheets.

Agalch - We have it in the family and they've said that baby looks on the big side, so they just want to make sure.

Maewest - What a pain about getting a bra. If you, try and get to Bravissimo. I'm lucky we have one in my shopping centre and the staff are totally wonderful. I'm going in again just before baby gets here for some BF bras. Hope the cramp hasn't been too bad over the weekend.

As for the pushchair, we've already got one from John Lewis. We went round Mothercare, etc but didn't find any that I liked. They didn't feel sturdy enough. As I don't drive, needed one that would walk miles with me and fit my shopping on. It's a travel system and came with cosy toes and rain cover. Can't remember the make. Preggie head on this morning, plus just got soaked nipping to the bank after work!!!!

Forgot to say, DH got me a card from 'Blob' which was really cute.

Also managed to survive visit with MIL. She cooked a lovely meal (all the things I've gone off or can't eat, so just had a small jacket potato!!). But somehow she made me feel bad for not eating it Angry Nevermind, hopefully won't have to see her again until 'Blob' makes an entrance.

Liliana - fingers crossed for you. Worrying stuff. Take good care.
If it makes anyone feel any better then my fab mother's day DID include a huge fecking 3yo toddler sized rant in the middle of our local shopping centre at about 2pm yesterday! Jesus. Terrible 2's my ass. Age 3 is the Devil's year!
Got me and dd exercise balls though and we had some fun bounding around the living room. Does feel nice and hope it helps my back!
Re cars - we got a Renault Grand Scenic a few weeks ago and I must say it's been fab so far. Very light to drive and not too huge yet very spacious and obviously designed for families.
Pissing down here. Off to buy some cds at lunchtime to get out of the office for a while! I am spending money compulsively at the moment. Total mare. Must be hormonal. Don't think I'm normally this bad!!!Grin.
Having babies is very expensive!

Liliana - you're really going through the mill this pregnancy, aren't you? Thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed it'll right itself quickly.

Hurrah hurrah - after reading and contributing to the buggy discussion, I looked on the Friday Ad site to search for the travel system I wanted, and now I'm the proud owner of a Mamas and Papas Pliko buggy with Primo Viaggio carseat, base and raincover - all accident free, barely used and costing just £50 from a lovely family who live about 5 mins away. Result! Grin

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie!!

I'm due on 26th July and scared - also a bit excited too though, but like BumpyBel, I'm worried about how little I know. It's the first one for me and DH, so neither of us has any experience to draw on, DH just keeps saying, "I've got to start reading up on it, before it's too late!!".

We've just bought a travel system and are on the lookout for other baby items, i.e steriliser, moses basket etc, so any advice would be great.

What's the toilet paper test - someone please explain.

Thanks Grin x

spub · 27/03/2006 15:27

Hi Kay and welcome.
Toilet paper test is a way to measure your girth. Take a roll of loo paper and measure how many squares you need to go around you at your widest part!
Re equipment - I'd really recommend the Avent steam steriliser. The Tomy digital walkabout monitors were also a good buy in our household last time around (dd is 3).
Ooh, baby related shopping is fab!!

Hi as well Kay - I'm also expecting my first, around the same time as you (28 July). I'm sure most people make parenting up as they go along :). But I'm sure you've had plenty of people giving you 'advice'.

Wow - we're getting to be a pretty huge group now, so many summer babies.

Hugs to Lilianna - sounds worrying, take it easy and I hope things go ok for you

I'm on no4 but i still feel panicky and unsure at times. You will be fine and don't be scared to ask for advice or help here,we are full of it lol.

Please enjoy your 2 and 3 yr olds, cos it's not until they are 14 that things really get tough!!

There are times when i could really choke him then he will do something really nice and i remember how sweet he can still be.I have to reach up to hug him cos he's sooooo much taller than me and thats strange too.

I have told my kids i am going to hopefully be having baby at home,my 14 yr old says he will be otherwise engaged lol.

Take care girls xx

Hi Girls,

Congrats and welcome to Kay, I am due the day b4 you with my 3rd (all girls) do you know what your having yet?

Lilianna- sending you big hugs am sure you and the bump will be fine and am sorry to hear about your friend, it must be an awful time for her.

Do you remember me telling you the other week about a friend of mine who might be losing her baby. Well we went in for her second scan today, she should be 12 weeks now but the foetus was still measuring at 4 weeks. She is booked in for surgery in the morning to remove everything. Sad I really wanted this to be ok for her.

Kbaby- i hope you start feeling better soon.

Evening girls.

Welcome home Kayzed. It seems like you've been off galavanting for ages girl! Glad to hear youre finally putting on some weight! Its about bloody time!!! Grin

Welcome Kay.. have you done the loo roll test yet? Dont forget to let us know! It's nine to beat! .. although I think I'll be getting there first with the weight i'm lumping on! I've picked up loads of handy hints from the wise old owls on this thread... and its reassuring and supportive to be able to come on and have a moan too!

Blossom.. we'll have to join the ww thread after our babies! Am dreading the idea of going back to "a low fat options chocolate drink can be a healthy and filling alternative to a bar of chocolate"... and other such nonsense!

Lilliana... keeping fingers crossed that everything is going ok for you x

Kbaby... are you doing your classes in Caerphilly or nearer your hospital? Nevill Hall is mine, so I'm not sure whether to got there or to my surgery.

Hope everyones feeling grrreat! I'm incredibly up and down these days.. but up at the moment!!!

Hi everyone
Wow, have missed less than a week, and it's just taken me about 45 minutes to read through all these messages.
Kayzed - glad you had a nice holiday - just the thought of sitting on a plane for that length of time is making my ankles swell up!!!! Wouldn't have minded the sunshine though!
Lilliana - hi, and hope everything's okay.
Sound like everyone has been having building work done, which makes me feel better, as we've been living in a building site, but now have one lovely room, which I am currently lounging in! Unfortunately, we're ripping our kitchen out at the weekend, and having the whole thing done from scratch - wo will have no sink/fridge/cooker for over a week. Me and ds are going to be spending lots of time at friends' houses I think!!! (and if the builders/electricians don't do it in a week - I think it might push me over the edge!!!).
going back to the subject of buggies, we bought an Instep 3 wheeler last time, and then found out it 'wasn't really suitable' from birth!!! I liked it for going for long walks, but hated the fact that it was forward facing only, had no carry cot and no travel system (v inconvenient). Am thinking about a Hauck Infinity this time - anyone tried one????
Oh, just realised what time it is - was at ante-natal yoga until nearly 10pm, and spent far too long on here. Work tomorrow, so better get to bed.
Goodnight ladies xxxxx

Welcome back Kayzed, am glad you had a nice time.

agalch - am pretty sure your'e right regards the baby and chicken pox, so you should be fine. However, I have heard that the older you are the worse it can (sorry), so fingers crossed that you dont get it.

Did anyone watch the 46 year pregnancy on c4 last night? This 76 year old lady had a calcified baby removed from her belly. She had been afraid of dying in childbirth and her baby wouldn't come out. She laboured for 3 days (in the fifties) and then the baby died inside her and stayed there for 46 years!

I find it unbearable walking around for the last couple of months can you imagine walking around being 40 weeks pg for that length of time!

There was another story about a women who was pg with triplets. One was ectopic but the sonographers didn't find it till later on in the pg. By this time it had burst her fallopian tube and was growing outside the womb. the babies were delivered at 28 weeks and all of them including mum was given a 60 million to one chance of surviving the op.
The triplets are now nearly 6 and they have no developmental/health probs and mumu is fine too. Isn't that amazing!

Aww thanks guys - made to feel real welcome here!!

Not done the loo roll test, but will as soon as I get home, I'll post and let you know the result.

Does anyone else not get on with their midwife (or is it just me?) Everyone says how wonderful their midwives were and how they've stayed friends with them, mine's really not that nice.
She's very difficult to get hold of (let's hope I don't need her in an emergency) and when I do contact her, it's like it's too much trouble. Thanks goodness I have a supportive Hubby and family, because was it up to her to be supportive, I'd feel like I was in it on my own!!!

My MIL has made us up a basket of all cute baby things and gave it to me on Mothers Day. She's included things like baby hats and mittens and dummies and play things, so that's very sweet. I really do feel for those of you who do not get on with your MIL/FIL, one stress you could definitely do without!!

Well I've rambled enough for today, so I'll leave you all to it, just one last thing, we've decided on a name for a girl, but can't decide for a boy, girls names seem so pretty and there seems more to choose from, but boys - woah!!

Has anyone got any names for theirs or how did you decide on names for any other children?

Hi everyone

Lilanna - Good luck at the clinic on Thursday and sorry to hear about your friend.

Kay - welcome to the group, everyone here is really friendly and not too mad :) Don't worry I'm on my 2nd after a 12 year gap (lots of problems in between) and I keep worrying. You'll be fine.

SF- Great news about the pram.

Pinkdolly - Sorry to hear about your friend, that's what happened with my last pregnancy. She'll get there in the end.

Agalch - My 11 year old is almost the same height as me, which is scary. He's on a growth spurt at the moment, so I'm sure will be overtaking me by time baby is here.

Kayzed - Welcome back, hope you had a lovely time. Take care of yourself.

Was meant to be going to aquanatal today but due to the strike, the leisure centre is closed :( To top it off it's just started to rain after a lovely sunny day and I've got to go to a tutorial tonight. My DS was off due to strike, so we've spent a great day together, chatting and watching movies. He's good to his old mum :0
