Welcome Dunnyjo! Grin

I've been having quite a few BH through the days while I'm at work (usually when I get up to go to the printer etc) and have had a couple of strong ones at home in the evenings when I've had to hang on to DH (I've never seen him look so panicked!) but other than that nothing really interesting happening. baby still kicking away + still breech. Have been taking raspberry leaf tea but hasn't really had much effect (I've heard of it bringing on strong BH straight afterwards).
Finally got my Hospital bag semi-ready yesterday (am just over 35 wks now) so feel a bit more organised.

Runtus - good idea re only changing baby in the nursery - I totally agree on the front of changing babies all over the house. Will def give that a try. we've bought a changing station for the nursery (the one item of furniture other than the crib that we do have!) so it will also make life easier!

Question - does anyone know how to tell if a breech baby is trying to move round? the little acrobat in my tummy keeps travelling head first across my belly and then flipping it's body around from my right side to left side (and obviously vice versa) which feels to me like it's trying to move into a head down position, but that for some reason it's not making it. Does this sound stupid and is there any way of telling?? Blush

Enid · 27/03/2006 19:35

blimey runtus is it your first baby Shock

nowt wrong with changing a baby on the floor whereever you happen to be at the time

I recommend not making rules for yourself like that - you'll only end up breaking them and feeling crap Wink

cori · 27/03/2006 20:12

We always changed DS on the changing table too. But we live in a two bedroom flat so not too difficult to do that. I think it would be a pain if you had to walk upstairs an extra 6 -7 times per day just to change the baby.

lovecloud · 27/03/2006 20:43

We changed our dd anywhere and everywhere, most popular place was the living room floor.

Then we got a changing table which was fab and cant say how useful it was and saved my back!

But slowly her changing places spread around the place and we had a little basket also behind our couch with changing mat, wipes and nappies for convenience.

I have to say I held back from using the dining table :)

I feel so shattered!!!!!!!!!

6 weeks to go and my body has changed so much, I am not gaining weight but my belly is getting bigger. Bh throughout the day and baby moves so much, so many bony bits sticking out makes me wonder if I am short on amniotic fluid and that is maybe why bay is breech as he/she cant move???

helsi · 27/03/2006 20:59

Woke up this am at 4.30 with really bad pains across the front of my tummy - thought I was dying! Actually I think it was wind, however, funny aches at in low tummy area this afternoon and tonight which I am keeping my eye on.

No BH as such although did get them with dd1. Not as noticeable with this one. Only 6 weeks to go.

SPD no better but no worse either so there's a good thing.

Dunnyjo · 27/03/2006 23:02

God i have nothing ready for the baby yet! Blush i have had alot to deal with recently, my mum died suddenly 9wks ago so trying to keep going as much as i can. Cant stop cleaning, think it helps keep me and my head busy. Going away next wk with my family, we all need to get away really. I know it will be sad and a hell of alot of tears but it will be good to have something to focus on then the next stage is baby arrivingSmile
I have been getting really strong bh contractions for a couple of wks now. Sometimes they are quite strong i have to stop what i am doing. I had them like that with ds then when labour started it was fast and intense labour and was over all very quickly. Hope this one will be quick Sad

fenny1 · 28/03/2006 08:51

Hi All

Dunnyjo, welcome to the crowd and my sympathies on the loss of your mum. It must be so sad for you especially at this time in your life. I hope you are getting lots of support from your friends and family. You can always talk here, everyone is v supportive.

Has anyone tips on TENS machines? Thinking its time to book one.

Baby moved to different position and keeps poking bits out of my tummy Shock
Been having the odd BH which is the strangest feeling.

When should you start taking raspberry leaf tea and where do you get it??

Sunny day in Cornwall - at lastGrin

runtus · 28/03/2006 09:32

Morning girls, not feeling too bad today. Working from home so got to avoid the dreaded commute and the London smog.......always feel better for that Smile

Baby suddenly seems to have got loads larger and is now intent on making his way out through my ribcage. Spent all day yesterday feeling like I had swallowed a melon and it was stuck just under my boobs - so painful! Thankfully he appears to have given that up so far today but I'm sure he'll be back later on.

Can't remember who asked but yes this is the first baby - don;t see any reason why that should stop me making the effort to change him in his own room though. I don't get changed in the lounge, so why should he? I recognise it will be hard work and I will have to make the extra effort to come up stairs each time but isn't everything going to be hard work those first few months?? If i give up even before I've started I'm buggered already!Grin I also thoght it might help settle him if he always has 'his' space right from the off..........where he feels comfortable, safe and is used to the surroundings. Thats got to help with settling him in the nursery when he leaves our room hasn't it? Seemed to work for most people I know, so I'm giving it a bash anyway!

runtus · 28/03/2006 09:34

Oh meant to say on the TNS machine thing - I didn't do loads of research myself but I was given some pointers by a friend that has hired 2. She basically mentioned that some come with re-useable pads, so you can use them before labour for backpain and BH's and don't have the worry that you will run out by the time you really need it most.

She gave me the name of a company called Natures Gate who hire out the machines with the reusable pads for £26 for 6 weeks, which I thought was a pretty good price. I can find the number again if you want me to - just let me know.

HTH

littlemisspiggy · 28/03/2006 11:39

Morning all! Welcome Dunnyjo. Sorry about your sad loss.
Squidgey and Cori, why are you taking raspberry tea? I thought it was used to bring labour on so you wouldn't want to use it too early. Have I got it all wrong?
Squidgey, it sounds like your baby is pacing up and down Grin! Maybe he's hatching his get out plan.
I saw the midwife yesterday and I had a whinge about the tiredness, breathlessness, painful belly etc etc and she just laughed. No sympathy there then. She reckons my belly measures 2 weeks earlier than my dates so he's either big, early or both.
Runtus I agree about changing baby in one place. I did as well. Apart from saving my backache by using a changing board over the cot (available at John lewis for about £25), didn't want the rest of the house overrun with nappies, nappy smells and wipes. It's bad enough as it is without that.

runtus · 28/03/2006 12:17

Got the MW today too - was hoping for some sympathy but guess i won't get any eh?!

inkyminky · 28/03/2006 13:29

Hello All,

TheIncubator, aparantly only 1 in 100 have an anterior placenta like us, arnt we special? Grin

I have just dug out mt "Raspberry Leaf Tincture" from last years pregnancy, I found the tea was yucky and my frind recommended this. It says on the bottle "to be used in the last 3 months of pregnancy, Traditionally used to prepare for childbirth" (all you do is put a few drops in with water then down in one). It is available through Neals Yard Remedies website.

Cant tell whether it worked or not but had a pretty good 10 hour labour last time, this pregnancy I have not even looked at it, or my lovely massage oil or stretchmark cream come to think of it.

Fenny1, have booked a Mama Tens machine from Mothercare catalogue. Used this last year and was really impressed but I'm sure they are all as good. (check that they have a boost button though).

Only 6 weeks to go now, getting BH every time I stand from sitting, make my cheeks flush sometimes. Felt the sickness coming back again the last few days, and like you LoveCloud am feeling bones jumping out all over the place.

Squidgemiller - am looking out for all the signs my baby is turning from Breech as well, it's very hard to tell isnt it?, have got another scan tommorrow so can let you know if it has turned without any obvous change of feeling for me (fingers crossed).

Thought that tip on the home page about the airing cupboard is good for anyone that moves onto/starts on a bottle is good. Have a great day everyone...spring has sprung...yippeee. Can someone please put me out of my misery and confirm thay are addicted to "Deal or No Deal" as well before I join the WI and take up Bowls like my Nan too.

tortoiseshell · 28/03/2006 14:14

Oooh, I've got an anterior placenta too. DOn't think there are any implications, except it's a little harder to find baby's hearbeat.

lovecloud · 28/03/2006 15:09

Hello all

Had check up today with mw and she is happy that my baby is not breech so "hooray" for that!

Heart beat was strong, loud and very fast! So got me thinking its a girl again, this guessing game is driving me mad!!!!!

So excited now and just cant wait to meet this little one.

Feel much better and more energetic than last week.

Dunnyjo - Welcome to you and I am so sorry for your recent loss. Cant imagine how you must feel inside but your sounds like you are positive and strong so sending you lots of hugs to keep you going :)

Runtus - few of us said that as being a mum you will do what ever makes your life easier at that moment. You'll see! But if you are a very organised and regimental person like my mate then you may never change your baby outside the bedroom and if that suits you then so be it. I wish I could catch some of these organised skills so many mums have, I have been practicing for three years now and I still have not sussed it all out Wink

I keep to a feeding and sleeping routine with my dd but thats about it, everything just happens as it will around and it suits my laid back way.

Cant wait to start reading all our birth stories!

runtus · 28/03/2006 17:05

Just back from the MW and all is fine......good strong heartbeat and she said size was good. She couldn't give me any indication of how big the baby would be though - when can they start to guess? Bot worried as my other half was a 10 pounder and I am only tiddly, so would like an indication if possible. Although I know it would just be an estimate...

I told her about the low BP again and how it affects my energy levles but she was more concerned with how dry my lips were!! Typical.

hockeymum · 28/03/2006 17:45

my poor midwife got a hormonal weepy lady in with her yesterday (me). My best pal had her baby on sunday morning which is lovely, but she had such a good birth experience in a midwife centre with her own room and was home 3 hours later that I got a bit jealous and weepy. I'm so pleased for her obviously and her little girl is wonderful I've had some fab cuddles. I'm just getting a bit scared about recovering from the c-section on a ward and having stroppy midwives like last time. I've spent the last 2 days getting all weepy and then getting killer headaches afterwards. I'm throwing a right pity party at the moment! However, I have just had a nice shower and am going to do my hair and put some perfume on so I feel a bit better and stop being such a stroppy britches!!

I seem to remember this happening last time too, apparently it's quite normal to get the blues a few weeks before the birth so I expect I'll be fine as time passes. DD is being a sweetheart and keeps giving me cuddles to get rid of my tears. She says "I'll make you feel happy mummy, you're wonderful and beautiful and funny and nice" and then that makes me cry with happiness cos she's so lovely and she gets confused I'm crying cos I'm happy. She looks like a man does when they don't get your emotions, you can almost see her think "Tsk, Women!!" She's got a lot to learn before puberty!!

Hello!!!!!!!! I am expecting my first baby in May, am I too late to join this thread, i'm hoping it'll help me to realise that my hormones and sometimes ridiculous questions are perfectly normal and not a clear sign that i am losing my mind!!!!

daisyartichoke · 28/03/2006 22:41

today's the best day i've had for ages, had a bit of a run of it last week with a nasty stomach bug followed by a ruptured eardrum..... a little bit like giving birth (increasing pain becoming almost unbearable, that ended suddenly) , except that I was on my own and all I had to show for it was a load of yucky stuff coming from my ear. am trying to adjust to being deaf in one ear, i had no idea how annoying or debilitating it could be.

anyway, sorry about the moan, i'm now looking forward more and more to meeting this little girl who is growing inside me. i can't wait to meet her face to face and introduce her to her dd and our ds

squidgeymiller- if the baby is still breech it's worth getting on knees and leaning forward onto floor, particularly when you're having BHs

Bouj · 29/03/2006 04:50

Runtus, is blurred vision a low bp thing? I have had a few spells of wiggly lines in front of my eyes. Last bp reading was 100/60. Do feel generally crap! Having horrible restless, wriggly legs. Can't get to sleep for ages. That and heartburn. Had a glass of wine last night, and had no wriggly legs, and managed to fall asleep quickly. Ah, if only I could do that every night!

lovecloud · 29/03/2006 09:58

Hello Bouj

My bp reading was 100/60 too yesterday - is that too low?

I also take ages to get comfortable each night with my restless legs, I call it "fizzy" legs as it feels like someone is blowing fizz through a straw up the centre of my legs - DRIVES ME MAAAAAAAAAAD! I bang my legs on the bed and kick them out - really annoys dh Wink

One good thing is with this pregnancy I have only had one episode of leg cramp during the night, got it lots last time. That always shocks the life out of you when deep asleep.

TheIncubator · 29/03/2006 10:40

Welcome Bubbles28 - it's never too late to join!

Hockeymum - your dd sounds adorable. Not surprised she's getting confused with the happy/sad tears but I'm sure she'll get the hang of it by the time she's a teenager :)

Tortiosehell - welcome to the 'special' club.

On the raspberry leaf tea front - my midwife was raving about it but I can't remember which part of labour it's supposed to speed up. I believe it's supposed to make your contractions more 'efficient' - whether or not that makes them more painful I don't know... She also suggested taking tablets rather than drinking the tea - apparently the tea tastes disgusting and you get a more accurate dosage with the tablets.

Enid · 29/03/2006 10:45

runtus perhaps your lips are dry because you are not drinking enough water? - this will 100% help with your tiredness and low bp - my bp is 90/50 but I drink lots of water and have no problems whatsoever with tierdness or dizziness. (water temporarily boosts blood volume)

fenny1 · 29/03/2006 13:27

Don't mean to bring everyone down but need to talk about how I feel having heard this sad news. A friend (my cousins best mate) has just had her baby this week. I have had a bump/pregnancy envy thing going with her cause she has always had the nicer bump and no horrid pregnancy probs. They are both just lovely people. She was pretty much due, had complications, emergency section and now they don't know if the baby will survive and if she does she will definitely be badly brain damaged. I just can't stop thinking about how they must be feeling. My DP thinks I am stressing about our baby and subconciously I am sure that I must be but I just can't imagine how they are coping or that there is anything useful to do or say Sad

Imafairy · 29/03/2006 13:38

that's tough Fenny - poor woman. Difficult to know what to do or so, other than to let them know that you're they're for them when they need need.
Big positive vibes to them, and all of us for happy health babies.............
