Sorry for frightening all the first timers about the waterproof sheet for your bed. I've just ordered mine from the White Company with 10% off for mumsnetters! (a nice one - honest). But lets face facts in the few weeks befor the birth and the first month after there's some big time leaking going on!! Disposible pads over every orifice!!!!

cori · 24/03/2006 09:47

Not a first timer, but had never considered getting a plastic sheet for my bed.

I havent got any stretch marks either. I had loads last time, and I used every cream going. THis time have used nothing.

cori · 24/03/2006 09:51

I have also started listening to Mozart, I did this from around 28 weeks last time. DS was always a calm happy baby and a good sleeper.

TheIncubator · 24/03/2006 10:10

Inkyminky - I've also got an anterior (front) placed placenta. As far as I'm aware there should't be too any issues for a natural birth with an anterior placenta (unlike praevia where they have to do a c-section).

Right - I'm off to check out the waterproof bed sheets on the White Company website...

lovecloud · 24/03/2006 10:46

I remember sleeping with a black bin liner under my bed first time - very sweaty:)

My waters actually broke whilst gently bouncing on my birth ball eating my breakfast.

I think its quite rare for your waters to go in bed or asleep, guess gravity and pressure plays a role in it.

6 weeks to go and all I think about it baby, what position he/she is in, are they ok, will they turn from breech, will i get the labour i want? I play the whole scenario out from the first contraction to holding my baby. Its driving me mad, daydreaming all day, before i fall asleep at night, when i wake in the night - i am an obsessed woman, is this normal???

i keep trying to stop wishing my life away, may is half way through the year, march is not over yet but 6 weeks seems so close AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

helsi · 24/03/2006 18:52

6 weeks to go and feeling terrible today then other days I have loads of energy. The tiredness is really getting me now. Been back to doctor today and he has signed me off so I really not going back to work now as maternity starts in 2 weeks.

SPD is same and made worse by baby being 3/5 down inside the pelvis - ouch!!

I am getting excited now as nursery finished and everything for hospital bag bought (but not packed yet). I really want to meet my new little one and dd is getting fed up of waiting - its such a long time for them isn't it.

Not at hospital again until week 36.

sorry don't know why 3 posts were put in then - problem with server.

squidgeymiller · 24/03/2006 19:27

Not fair - my first stretch marks appeard at approx 20 weeks (when I wasn't even showing that much) and have now covered the entire lower half of my belly and are creeping up the front of my belly, either side of my navel. I've tried every cream going but nothing works! v unfair!

have been lucky in the respect that the only other side effects I've had have been swelling and heartburn - no need for germoloid cream yet (touch wood!!!)

Suddenly v scared at prospect of needing plastic sheets, hadn't even considered this - is it really neccessary?

My DH was an absolute star and had flowers delivered to me at work today from the bump for Mothers day (it's our first), which made me come over all unneccessary - well, I only have 5 weeks left so I'm probably way over emotional.

hockeymum · 25/03/2006 10:29

squidgymiller - how sweet of your dh to send you flowers to work. I could never get my dh to understand that I'd rather have them early in public than on time at home!! My friend sent me a happy tummy mummy's day card when I was pregnant with dd as dh was away in Japan and hadn't thought it was mothers day. I will always keep that first card.

littlemisspiggy - my dd is 3 1/2 and yes she is an angel! She is so excited about the baby and is really looking forward to him being out so she can mother him! Poor lad's not going to stand a chance!! We went to mothercare yesterday to choose a toy for her to wrap up and bring to hospital to see her baby brother, she chose 2! but they are lovely so we're keeping both.

I've got 3 weeks and 6 days to go now! and it's not dragging as much as I expected. I actually feel better now than I have done all pregnancy. Obviously I'm tired and hormonal but I'm not ill for the first time in 8 months (well, still being sick every day but that's become part of the routine now! and it's proper morning sickness now, not all day all night sickenss which is a blessing). I went out with some of the mums from dd's nursery last night and stayed out quite happily till nearly midnight, was very impressed with myself. I realised this is how some women feel all through their pregnancies and then I realised thats why some people have more babies! It was like a penny dropping! I hadn't really thought that being just pregnant was ok, cos to me I always associate pregnancy with being ill and spending days and days in and out of hospital! Still, I'm not at all tempted to have another one after this, and I only have another 27 days of being pregnant to go - hoorah!!!

Hello everyone

Very hormonal here too, sometimes I listen to myself and think I sound like a right moody complaining cow :)

Other than being moody I ma so excited and feel fine except i cant walk far without needing to go to the loo.

So are most of you putting your baby in a nursery straight away? i did ask this earlier on but my post was so long i dont think anyon must of got to that bit Grin

They do say you should have them in your room for the first six months at least to reduce cot death. Its nicer for the baby to know you are next to them plus it makes breastfeeding in the night a doddle.

plama · 25/03/2006 17:43

Lovecloud, I took middle road with DD and had her in our room until she grew out of moses basket, then she went into her cot in her own bedroom (at about 4ish months) Prior to that she had the odd nap in her cot just to get her used to it. Bottom line is though that YOU know YOUR baby best and you do what feels right for your family.

runtus · 27/03/2006 10:30

Plan is for baby to be in his crib in our room until he outgrows it or we decide to move him into the nursery.............nursery is ready and waiting to go though as I want to stick to the rule of always changing him in there, not all over the house. The thought of changing him on the dining room table of kitchen floor makes me fell ill...............I have a good frend that always stuck to the nursery rule and her house managed to remain looking vaguely like a normal house - even in the first few months, so thats the aim!

littlemisspiggy · 27/03/2006 12:41

HOCKEYMUM! Thrilled to see you were the mysterious ring lady!!

hockeymum · 27/03/2006 13:40

Thanks lmp. When dh told me he'd been on mumsnet, I said "Oh is that why people have been asking me how old dd is?" I feel very happy. Having read all fenni's posts earlier about how close she feels to her dh while pregnant and feeling all jealous, I feel much better after such a lovely mums day! Although dh is now on strict instructions to respect my mn privacy until he signs in again with the birth announcement in a few weeks!

How did the rest of you enjoy mothers day?

Hi everyone, just under 4 weeks to go, still haven't quite got my head round the fact that I'm going to have 3 children in a months time...still haven't decided on a girls name, so maybe it's going to be a boy!

Just had mw appointment, and seems all is well - spot on for size, very low bp (105/70), baby is head down - so all geared up for homebirth, which I can have from Sunday under their rules, when I will be 37 weeks.

Not feeling too bad generally - a bit tired, and a bit waddly, but this baby does seem just to be getting on with being cooked! Hope everyone else is ok.

tortoiseshell · 27/03/2006 14:59

PS - lovecloud, will do what did with other two - basket in our room till grows out of it, then cot in our room till we want them in the nursery - with the other two this was 6/7 months.

runtus · 27/03/2006 15:07

Has anyone else got very low blood pressure? Mine has sat around the 90/55 mark since being pregnant and i think it is one of the causes of me being so wiped out all the time. The MW just keeps saying "oh its better than being high" but personally I find the dizzy spells, blurred vision and total tiredness a bit of a pain too........anyone?

Dunnyjo · 27/03/2006 15:27

lol thought i was the only one who is due in May! I have been put in the right place at last phew! Have not ready any yet but will do, need to catch up lol

Dunnyjo · 27/03/2006 15:31

oh by the way due the 30th May!

TheIncubator · 27/03/2006 16:25

Welcome Dunnyjo!

The nursery furniture turned up on Friday! :) It looks fab but has a very strange smell to it. It's wooden and dh reckons it might be the varnish they've used. We've currently got all the drawers and doors open to air it out. I'm hoping that'll be soon so I can put all the baby things that are scattered all over the house away!

And, we've finally decided on a pushchair/car seat/pram combo. We've gone for a Jane Nomad - hopefully its the right choice as it cost a small fortune! Luckily my Mum has treated us to it so one less thing for us to buy. Still not having much luck on deciding on names though...

Actually starting to feel a bit excited now.

cori · 27/03/2006 17:02

Hello everyone. Is anyone else getting Braxton hicks contractions yet?
I seem to have had quite a few today, someone mentioned if you get more than four in an hour to go to hospital. I think I have had that today, thought not all day. Could be the raspberry leaf tabs I am taking.

tortoiseshell · 27/03/2006 17:29

I get spells of BH - will get a whole run of them then nothing for ages. Had that with both ds and dd, from about 34/5 weeks onwards - they were both late!

thebecster · 27/03/2006 18:04

Hello all!

I suggested the waterproof sheet to DH. Haven't seen him look that scared since we saw a shark when swimming in Hawaii... Grin
We're going to FINALLY buy some baby stuff at the weekend - have still got absolutely nothing ready at all. Think we'll just get a car seat, something for the baby to sleep in, a few babygros & nappies etc. And maybe a pushchair if we've still got the energy. I'm very excited!
Hope everyone else is well. I'm okay - still being sick of course, but that has become a normal part of my daily routine now... I had a couple of BH last week (am 31 wks) but none since. Welcome dunnyjo - we've got the same due date Smile!
