God, how awful. Can't begin to imagine what they're going through.

AbiGilby · 30/03/2006 12:07

That is so sad. It must be so difficult to know what to say.

A friend of mine, who had been trying for her first baby for two years and had recently fallen pregnant, has just had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. DH and I fell in the first week of trying for this, our first and I just don’t know what to say to her. Actually, she hasn’t called me in nearly two weeks, and won’t return my calls. I totally understand, but feel really guilty that I’m pregnant and she isn’t.

AbiGilby · 30/03/2006 12:08

Sorry to add to the ‘blues’

hockeymum · 30/03/2006 14:41

I think when we know people who have such sad stories and experiences it's really important not to back off ourselves. Keep calling her Abi and letting her know you are thinking of her. Send her a card or something nice so she knows you care and don't expect her to find it easy to be around you for a while, she will be better in time.

From my experience, people dont want to take anything away from your happy news, pregnancy and birth, but just find it hard to be around. They want you to know how lucky you are so they are not the best people to have moany "i feel sick moments" with, but they just might not be able to show their happiness and might get very upset when you have your baby.

Keep trying and be patient with her.

That's good advice Hockeymum.
It is sometimes so difficult to know what to do that you end up doing nothing and still feeling bad.

On a lighter note, as I brought the bad news in the first place....Happy Friday to everyone!!!!!

runtus · 31/03/2006 10:03

I second that - thank crunchie it's friday!

supersonic · 31/03/2006 12:09

Hi hope everyone is feeling reasonably well - got to be feeling slightly better being Friday only now we have 2.5 weeks of easter break!
I have a question and wondered if anyone could let me know what they think my DD is 5 in June and I hardly ever used her pram/pushchair and it has since been well covered and stored at my mums - she has checked it and there is not one mark on it apparently although I will go and get it this weekend if my memory if right there is nothing I can take off the pram and put inthe washing machine it is sponge clean only (thinking of getting any dust that my be in it) do you think it woudl be safe to use if it is not dusy or smelly - hoping so it cost £450 then and dont really want to spend another small fortune on another one!

I have to really start organising myself baby due 8/5 and nothing really set up cleaned or done HELP!!!!!!!

EnidVonTeese · 31/03/2006 12:14

why wouldnt it be safe?

littlemisspiggy · 31/03/2006 12:33

Hi Supersonic, I'm sure a soapy sponge down would do the trick. I would definetely resurrect it. No need to go to extra expense getting another.

supersonic · 31/03/2006 12:55

Wrong choice of words when I say 'safe' I mean would it be responsibile of me to put a baby in a pram that been kept in storage without 'proper washing' i.e washing machine - I am perhaps bewing slightly paranoid and thinking would the baby breathe the dust in (if any) even as I type that I know that sounds ridiculous Miss piggy my mum and DP agree with yourself a sponge should do the trick i hope so!

littlemisspiggy · 31/03/2006 13:27

If you're worried about dust in the fibres, you could also give it a going over with the vacuum cleaner

hockeymum · 31/03/2006 15:56

supersonic. I've just got my dd's 4 year old pushchair out of the garage, it is all musty and smelly, so I gave it a really thorough sponge clean with dettox stuff and it has come up really nicely. It takes a while to dry but that's not a problem at this stage is it? I don't think you could possibly harm the baby with a 5 year old pushchair, do you have any sofas/chairs etc in your house that haven't been thoroughly cleaned, or your own mattress where baby will be fed etc. I sure do, they just get used to it. A good scrub with a sponge and then a good hoover when dry will get it clean, new ones have loads of manufacturing fibres and dust on them anyway and we just trust them as they are new, I'm sure yours will be fine.

Hello

Had to get checked out today as I have been weeing every 15 mins!!! Nightmare going anywhere and I have started the "waddle" walk.

Gp said there is no infection and I am slightly engaged by one bit so that will be causing the pressure on my bladder.

5 Weeks to go at least I hope so Wink

All my pregnancy books say that with second babies you dont normally engage until labour. So when he told me I was engaged I got a bit nervous but he said I have nothing to worry about and they can go in and out as they please as the muscles are softer. Although my belly is so tight and you can really feel the babies shape, I dont reckon there is much room to move.

Exciting stuff, almost finished packing my hospital bag. I am so excited just as much as first time. I thought I would be all slack seeing as I have done this all before.

I am very relaxed about the birth and actually excited about labour - weirdo Grin

Just can not wait to meet this little person, hold their little hands and feet, kiss and see their little face...

bubbles28 · 01/04/2006 11:43

I too seem to be permanently waddling to the toilet....even if i've only just been, amusing at times but not whan exhausted in the evening and back has seized up!!!! I only have 1 more week left at work, can't quite believe it, feels a bit strange when others are making plans to imagine I won't be there....i'm sure i'll get used to it Wink!!!!!
Am planning to begin hospital bag packing this weekend..... as it's my 'first time' any tips?? What are you packing for 'after birth' clothes? Am feeling a bit neurotic about everything being clean and tidy..... will wash all tiny little baby clothes soon, do i need to wash all bedding aswell?? Hope everyone else is well xx

hockeymum · 01/04/2006 13:21

bubbles, I've washed the bedding as well, it makes it that bit softer for them imo. Although with it being my second I'm washing all the old vests and babygros but not bothering to wash the new outfits before putting them on, I'm slack like that! With regard to after birth clothes, you will probably wear your maternity stuff out of hospital too because you'll still be holding a lot of fluid and be all wobbly and you certainly wont want to attept to pull in your tummy muscles to get anything tighter on.

Obviously as I'm having a section I plan to wear one set of clothes in (that will stay on for 5 mins before they put me in a gown) and then keep that at the hospital for going home in. On the ward (apart from day one) I know I'll want to wear clothes each day instead of pjs just to feel a bit better and acknowledge its day time so I've got a couple of loose summer skirts that I wouldnt be seen dead wearing at any other time, that are comfy, no too hot (wards are boiling) and allow the midwives easy access for checking stiches, catheters, drains etc. The last thing you want is to have to have any wires or anything out of the top of pj bottoms or trousers and have to pull them down all the time! Hindsight is a wonderful thing!!

HORRAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am now officially on maternity leave and have no work to worry about for a whole year!! Grin - except looking after two children under 5 years of gae but never mind!!!!!

5 weeks to go and counting - i am not blooming, i am a waddling freak and a tired one at that!

Hope all you ladies are ok and will update again tomorrow after (hopefully) a good night's kip! XXX

plama · 02/04/2006 17:21

Am feeling sad just now as DH has just gone back to Scotland (300miles) for work and will be gone for 2 weeks. All my family are in Scotland too so I'm on my own with DD (3.5). Still DH has got a date for his transfer of 11th May. I've still got 3 more weeks at work and am finding it all v tiring on my own. DD is a wee gem, though and said "Don't worry mummy I'll look after you when daddy is away"
On a positive note have finished the bump's nursery and hung the curtains and reassembled the cot-bed as a cot again - and it looks lovely. What's eveybody else been up to this weekend?

bubbles28 · 02/04/2006 20:05

In between fantasising about what to eat next, having just eaten..... have been doing nursery/shopping stuff with a pregnant friend..... it seems that the more I buy the more i need to buy. Partner currently building baby furniture..... very exciting!!!!!

Thanks for advice about bedding/washing stuff etc Smile.

Really must prepare hospital bags.....

Hi all MNetters!
Have not had chance to write for ages but doing well and having similar thoughts, laffs and aches to a lot of you! 33 wks now and Braxton H's are def firmer, few have been slightly painful. Achey brakey back : is not sleeping at all for 3 days really necessary!? Can't I just feel this zonked when bebe comes?! She is certainly getting tucked in down there, hence the pelvic pain. Love watching all the bits poking out. Is it a foot or knee? No idea. It's my first time...and flump is as able to keep still for a second as me. Uh-oh!
Hope midwife will tell more about position on Wednesday. Not breech for sure, but not in ideal position even though I've done all fours and other exercises when I get the chance. Am looking forward to labour and birth experience. Oh yes, and meeting our new little friend! Yeeeeeee Aahhhh Ooohhhhh crikey.
Have a lot of stuff ready also. Excited about using new pram !!
SORRY - it's so long. Was glad to read all you news and happy that everyone is Spring-like, positive and chirpy. Thanks for cheering me up when I had a 'pity party' too. A Few posts have brought a tear to my tired eyes! Nez x

thebecster · 03/04/2006 12:13

It's been a while since I've had chance to post, although i've been logging on to keep up to date with you all.

Hope you're all well & happy today. Thisis also my last week at work before starting maternity leave - I'm so glad! DH & I went & bought a car seat and a few 'bits' for the baby at the weekend, which was really exciting. He also bought me some lovely new maternity clothes. Very extravagant considering that I've only got 9 weeks left, but I was feeling really enormous & a bit down, so he thought I needed a treat. And it has made me feel a whole lot better! I've written my list for my hospital bag using some of the threads on the 'pregnancy' board for inspiration - I'm planning to pack it in a couple of weeks time... GULP!

hockeymum · 03/04/2006 15:12

It is such a beautiful spring day here today and gives me hope that there will be lots of sunny days for us all to push the prams around! I'm feeling proud of myself for having got to 36 weeks and having a long, cold, ill, sick and lonely yucky winter. I never want to feel that ill again! It's lovely now to be able to see the end to it all - 2 weeks on friday!! and I still havent packed my hospital bag!! Oops! Have got a busy week this week as its dd's last week in nursery before easter so there are lots of special things to do for that, but next week it'll be quieter next week without having to get up and out of the house by 8.30, lots of video watching in our PJs I reckon!

I did have a major pity party last week panicking about the recovery from the section which was pretty grim last time, so its amazing to have some good weather today and remember that the recovery doesnt take forever and I'll be there with the buggy parade by the time summer comes along!

fenny1 · 03/04/2006 15:17

Congrats to those who have finished work! I have another 2 weeks to go although am off sick today with fingers the size of sausages and the most hideous ankles. Did too much yesterday.
Washed the buggy bits, and worked out how to use it. We bought a new car last week and brought it home to 'test drive' getting buggy in boot, then couldn't collapse buggy to get it in Blush Sorted now.
Packed my bag at weekend, not sure I have enough in it, the baby's bag is bigger than mine! Might be 'cause I am in denial, seeing consultant tomorrow to finally establish if the homebirth is just a pipedream.
Has anyone bought baby furniture from IKEA? Thiking of getting away for a few days and maybe looking at their stuff.

bubbles28 · 03/04/2006 21:06

Fenny1 ..... yes, we have bought some IKEA furniture, after our first and second choices seemed to be permanently 'out of stock' (not at IKEA) and we were in the middle of a crisis with the pram we had ordered but which had not appeared (it has now!!!!) , I felt like I coudn't bear to look at any more furniture and then wonder if we'd ever receive it..... so we decided to buy a nursery wardrobe and drawers/changer ..... they look v.cute, and no fuss or waiting for deliveries.Smile

I am now on my work countdown..... finish on Friday!!!!

runtus · 04/04/2006 08:25

Morning all, not sure who said it but hooray for the spring weather at last! How nice is it not to have to try and squeeze in to a coat, gloves, scarf and hat everytime you leave the house? I'm loving just wearing a light jumper to go out at last.

I have finished working in town full time now and I'm perm. based at home so typing away in my comfiest snuggly clothes - heaven! Working right up to the end but should be at home for 90% of it so not too bad. I would have had to give up early if I hadn't been able to swing the home working thing...........life saver!

AbiGilby · 04/04/2006 08:38

Hi all – good weather really does make you feel better doesn’t it? Spent last night with DH playing with the new stroller/pram/car seat combo the in-laws brought for us. It’s got more buttons and functions and controls than my car, I’m sure! DH reckons it’s like a Transformer, and will turn into a tape player or plane too Wink !

We’re going on holiday to Isle of Wight this week. Really looking forward to it Grin . We’re only going away for three days, but it’ll be the last holiday just the two of us. Cookie is due to arrive on 4th May (so a month today! Smile ). I hope s/he doesn’t come while we’re on holiday. It’ll be a real faff, and my maternity bags will all be at home. Although, as a first-timer I’m sure s/he’ll come late and be huge! S/he certainly feels it when s/he’s moving around.

Love and hugs to you all.
