HaveALittleFaith · 20/09/2012 16:45

Ooh I sneezed as I posted that!

ratbagcatbag · 20/09/2012 17:20

Sneezing pulls my tummy too and so does moving in bed really quick, grrrrr. I have a retroverted uterus as well so needed to empty bladder to see baby :)

Can I ask a question, is anyone considering doing any research stuff whilst preggers? My hospital have got a study into ladies that have complications due to high bmi so are asking for ppl in this to come forward. Half get a drug (which is fine in pregnancy but will do more research) and half placebo, as my bmi is 34 I'm considering doing it. Am I mad??

HaveALittleFaith · 20/09/2012 17:27

I haven't been offered anything as yet but I'd consider it ratbag! You'll either get a fun drug or nothing! My Dad just did a research project to treat his prostate cancer - usually they offer either radiotherapy or hormone treatment but he was in a experimental group that started Roth hormones and then did radiotherapy, the theory being that with both the cancer is less likely to come back. It's been very successful for him and the consultant was very positive. As Dad said, people willing to do research results in changes to approach, the changes in recent years have probably saved his life :) To be using human 'guinea pigs', it'll have gone through stringent testing already so it'll be safe. What does Mr Rat think?

ratbagcatbag · 20/09/2012 18:45

Mr rat is of the opinion so long as the drug is safe anyway go for it, they normally prescribe it for women with gestational diabetes anyway, but they are trying to understand of doing it earlier reduces the likelihood of getting it and also people with large bmis go onto to have big babies which can be more dangerous, again they want to see if starting the drug early reduces this. TBF my biggest worry is the sodding extra blood tests id have to have and we all know I love those :)

Teapig · 20/09/2012 19:31

Hooray for the wonderful scan news! So happy to hear all the amazing scan stories.

MrsJohnDeere · 20/09/2012 19:58

hello, can I join in? If anyone knows me from RL PLEASE pretend you haven't seen this for a few weeks more.

Dc3 due 28th April (maybe?), which would make me 8+2, I think. I'm still in denial about the whole thing. My youngest ds has just started school and I was quite sure I didn't want any more children and was looking forward to having some freedom again. Fate had other ideas Grin. Had a dating scan at what turned out to be 6 weeks because I had no idea how far along I was (periods have been erratic and infrequent for the past year or so). The sonographer wasn't able to get totally accurate dating readings because the foetus was in an awkward place and I have a renovated uterus.

Lots of worries and concerns about this pregnancy - I'm old (40) and had Pre-eclampsia in both previous pregnancies. We'll need to move house and get a bigger car, and there is just so much to think about.

Seeing the GP tomorrow to get on the system. Probably ought to see a mw soon too.

This pregnancy feels very different to the last two, so I am wondering if this one might be a girl.

Knittingnovice · 20/09/2012 20:15

Hi all, rl has been a bit intense with ds starting school, dd changing days at the cm me trying to get a job and keeping shtum about being pg.
The backache has kicked in with a vengeance, coupled with insomnia, migraines and vomiting I have remembered that I hate being pg & I have to do the school run, make lunches and everything else running a household entails as well as being chairperson of the preschool committee, treasurer formy local NCT branch and a rainbow leader.
Have got my booking appointment with the midwife next tuesay and hopefully scan date following that, but got the appointment through this morning for my oncology follow up & ct scan which I can't now have, so will have to ring oncologist and see what the alternatives are as I want to know that I have no tumours/complications there too.
Very jealous of all of you who have seen the babies as dc's want to know when they can see mummies baby. Not sure they realise it won't be here til after Easter, they keep asking how long to Christmas so not too for off!!

LikeCandy · 21/09/2012 07:09

Happy Friday April ladies!

So I'm going to ask a really awful question: do anyone have a pink/blue flavour preference?!

I would definitely say I don't mind, as long as baby is healthy. However I know that I would like a daughter at some point, be it 1st,2nd or 3rd (if we get that far!) because I'm really close to my Mum and Grandma, and I'd love to carry that on!

Almost the weekend - woo!

11+6

HaveALittleFaith · 21/09/2012 07:23

Morning all!

Honestly LikeCandy|? I'd like pink, DH would lean towards blue. But I don't really mind because we waited so long. I always wanted a girl by since my sister had our nephew I realised how ace boys are :) I keep trying to guess what flavour I'm having but I keep changingy mind!

HaveALittleFaith · 21/09/2012 07:23

Oh 9+0 today! Feels like a positive landmark to reach :)

ratbagcatbag · 21/09/2012 07:40

Morning all, still. In bed and off sick icky :(

My DH already has a DS, whom I love loads, so id like pink, although I have a boys name sorted, my girls isn't so definite :)

ratbagcatbag · 21/09/2012 07:40

12+5

Giddypants · 21/09/2012 07:43

Morning ladies and happy Friday!
Welcome mrsJD life is boring without a little surprise now and then Wink

If I'm being honest I would really like pink, like likecandy said I'm really close to my mum and would want that closeness with my own daughter, but I won't complain either way, every child is a blessing.

I'm meeting a friend whos just had a baby, so lots of squishy cuddles this morning Grin

Giddypants · 21/09/2012 07:45

Hope your feeling better soon ratbag

12+2

ratbagcatbag · 21/09/2012 08:23

Thanks giddy :)

Can I ask, is anyone going o find out what they're having or g for the surprise?

toobreathless · 21/09/2012 08:55

We will be finding out, in 7 weeks time! 20 week scan booked for 13.11.13.

Found out with DD as DH deployed to Afghanistan at 22 weeks & returned at 37 weeks for the birth, he was desperate to know. We didn't regret finding out at all & I enjoyed planning for the arrival & buying some really lovely clothes half price in the sales etc

No real preference here. Saying that DH (& me until the 12 week scan) is convinced its a girl & my family seem to have one or the other IYSWIM

Mama1980 · 21/09/2012 08:58

Morning all, more good news scans yay! Smile
Ratbag great news yesterday, I hope I feel better today though.
Dr again today discussing the stitch which will hopefully be next week. Then I can go home - in a wheelchair though. So long as my body doesn't throw any new surprises. Physio was ok kinda grumpy though, apparently I have a 50/50 chance of getting through this pregnancy without losing permanently the nerve function in my legs, apparently I shouldn't have taken such a risk don't you know Grin I explained I did use contraception and he just smiled patronisingly. Grrrrr sorry little rant there but otherwise all is good.
Hope everyone has a good day x

Mama1980 · 21/09/2012 08:59

I am definitely finding out the sex as soon as I can - gonna need all the time to find a name if I'm only looking at 30 weeks eek!

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 21/09/2012 09:08

I definatley have no preference, although something in my mind makes me think this is a boy (probably something to do with the sonographer referring to it as him at my early scan). DH wants to fund out the sex, I'm undecided!

12+0 woooohoooooo!!!!

ratbagcatbag · 21/09/2012 09:12

We're not going to find out, because DH doesn't want too, he has a 14 yo DS but should have a 16yo dd that was stillborn :( if we find out and I'm having a girl he'd be a complete wreck, because his dd never made it but his son did. So even though I'm impatient I do get it and am happy to wait.
Sweepstake is currently heavily in favour of a girl though :)

aufaniae · 21/09/2012 09:13

Morning everyone :)

And welcome MrsJohnDeere! :)

How's everyone getting on with the lack of booze / caffeine? Have you found substitutes or are you simply cutting down? I'm still having a couple of proper cuppas a day, but substituting non-caffeine drinks the other times. DP found this tea, which I'm really enjoying Rooibos Earl Grey (Dragonfly Tea) (that was just the first link I found but I think you can get it in supermarkets) and also Waitrose have an own-brand 1% cider which is nice I think. This pregnancy's going to be expensive I reckon - we rarely shop at Waitrose as we're pretty skint atm, but their cider is tempting me in! Wink

ratbagcatbag I want to know the sex this time. Last time I didn't, we went for the surprise but this time I feel differently, not sure why! Perhaps it'll be easier to explain to DS that he's having a brother or sister rather than a mystery? Actually that's not the main reason, I just want to know this time, not sure why.

I'm getting the pulling on my stomach too, when I move sometimes, particularly if I twist sideways.

ratbagcatbag · 21/09/2012 09:13

Am I allowed to ask on names yet as well?

SneezySnatcher · 21/09/2012 09:18

We're planning on finding out - we did with DD. I think I'm more keen to find out this time as when we tell DD we're having a baby we can say whether she's getting a brother or a sister.

I have no real preference either way, but I do think it'd be nice for DD to have a sister as I'm very close to mine. I'd be equally happy with a boy though!

MrsJohnDeere · 21/09/2012 09:21

Absolutely have to find out the sex! I'm too much of a control freak to not know. With the last two I had to get sexing scans done privately as the hospital has a policy of not telling, but I think I'm going to use a different (nearer) hospital this time.

Booze/caffeine has been easy for me - the thought of them makes me feel really nauseous. All I want to drink at the moment is iced water.

Anyone else suffering from shivering, above and beyond the normal feeling a bit cold because it is that time of year?

ratbagcatbag · 21/09/2012 09:24

Yep mjd, I'm more nesh than normal and feeling the cold more :)
